A former alcoholic and shock jock radio host, Glenn Beck reinvented himself into one of the most influential voices within the conservative media, thanks to Fox News. With a daily radio and television program, Beck skyrocketed to right-wing fame thanks to his incendiary rhetoric, over-to-top theatrics, emotional breakdowns and nonstop promotion of wild conspiracy theories. Beck transformed himself into something of a Religious Right guru, releasing an endless series of books, engaging in speaking tours and organizing large scale events that drew tens of thousands of supporters to the National Mall to rally around the Religious Right/Tea Party message that he promotes.
Eventually, Beck left his perch at Fox News and struck out on his own, launching his own network called The Blaze, through which he now broadcasts his daily radio and television programs. Despite launching his own venture, Beck’s signature style of promoting conspiracy theories while using hyper-emotional rhetoric to constantly warn of God’s impending judgment and global chaos has not abated. In 2016, Beck spent hundreds of thousands of his own dollars to go out on the campaign trail in support of Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign, repeatedly declaring that Cruz had been chosen by God to save America…but it was all for naught, as Cruz failed to secure the Republican presidential nomination.
