Perkins: Obama Is "The Worst President This County Has Ever Had"

During American Family Radio’s Today’s Issues, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association argued that the country won’t survive if President Obama is reelected to a second term. Perkins called Obama the “worst president this country has ever had” and Wildmon said that if Obama wins the 2012 presidential election, he will “lose faith in the American people.”

Watch:

Perkins: I disagree probably 80 to 90 percent of his policies, I will go on record Tim in saying I think he has been the worst president this country ever had and if he has four more years in the White House I don’t know that the country can survive his attacks on the family.

Wildmon: I will lose faith in the American people if they don’t have more wisdom than that.

Following Fischer's Logic, First Amendment Doesn't Apply To Mormons Either

Bryan Fischer has been demanding a ban on the construction of mosques in the United States for a year now and argues that such a prohibition is entirely constitutional because the First Amendment does not apply to Islam.

In fact, as Fischer is fond of saying, the First Amendment does not apply to any "non-Christian religions":

[T]he First Amendment was written neither to guarantee freedom of religion to Muslims or Buddhists or Hindus nor to prohibit their free exercise of religion. It wasn’t written about them one way or another.

It was written for one specific purpose: to protect the free exercise of the Christian religion ... We must be clear: the First Amendment does not prohibit the free exercise of alternative religions, but neither does it guarantee it. It simply does not address the issue at all.

In defense of this view, Fischer has lately started arguing that prohibitions on polygamy prove that "non-Christian religions" (i.e., Mormonism) do not have First Amendment protections:

That the free exercise clause provides no guarantee for non-Christian religions is made clear in the case of Mormonism. It was part and parcel of the “free exercise” of the Mormon faith to have as many wives as you wanted. Congress said nope. In fact, the Mormon church was required to prohibit plural marriages as a condition of Utah’s statehood.

(It’s worth noting in passing that the Mormon church has never renounced plural marriage. It has simply instructed its followers to obey federal law in the matter.)

Idaho came into the union in 1890, at virtually the same time as Utah, and the first page of Idaho’s state constitution makes it explicitly clear that the free exercise of religion shall in no sense be construed to justify plural marriages.

...

In fact, the Republican Party came into existence in 1854 to combat two evils: slavery and the pernicious Mormon practice of plural marriage, what the original GOP called "those twin relics of barbarism." (Let me point out that I’m talking about the LDS faith as it existed then, not as it exists today.)

Clearly, then, as our political experiment with the Mormon faith makes clear, there is no guarantee of the free exercise of religion for religions which are outside the stream of historic Christianity, as Mormonism is. (It denies the Trinity, the virgin birth of Christ, the unique deity of Christ, his all-sufficient atoning sacrifice on the cross, and the completeness of God’s revelation in the Old and New Testaments.)

Following Fischer's logic, it only stands to reason that local communities likewise have the power to deny Mormons permission to build temples in their communities as well.

Fischer claims that the Mormon church "never renounced plural marriage" and therefore it must be entirely acceptable for local officials who do not want Mormons or their "pernicious" teachings polluting their communities to deny them permission to build houses of worship, precisely because the First Amendment does not apply to "non-Christian religions" like Mormonism.

Scarborough: Objective History Shows God Gave Us America

Vision America’s Rick Scarborough is continuing his campaign to link the Tea Party with the Religious Right, telling a Texas tea party group that God is responsible for the creation of America. According to Scarborough, who Politico reports is being actively courted by leading Republican presidential candidates, an unbiased study of history indisputably reveals that only God’s supernatural intervention led the colonies to win the War of Independence.

Watch:

I do know that even those who are not passionate about Christ are passionate their understanding that God gave us this country. Anyone who studies this history closely and fairly, without bias, has to come to this conclusion that the only way a country like the colonies of America can defeat the strongest military power on the face of the earth was by God’s intervention.

Is Pat Robertson's CBN Now An Advocacy Organization?

Can somebody explain to me what this is?

I found this on CBN reporter David Brody's blog "The Brody File" where Brody makes it sound as if the video itself was produced by CBN:

CBN sent out this video above in an attempt to draw awareness to the major problem of the rising deficit, the declining dollar, and the eventual threat to the long-term stability of America’s economy.

The video is very similar to the “Throw granny of a cliff”video by the Agenda Project, a liberal group who released their video a few months ago to suggest that Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan would ruin the lives of senior citizens through big cuts to entitlement programs.

The point of this video is that it won’t be just “granny” at risk if lawmakers don’t do something drastic about the debt crisis. It will be all of us.

It’s notable that the video doesn’t take aim at Democrats or Republicans. It’s simply all about getting America’s fiscal house in order.

This video is part of a movement within the conservative evangelical focusing on morality and the debt. Videos like this and other forms of communication have really exploded within the last few years.

We have seen a number of Christian organizations like the Family Research Council, American Family Association, Focus on the Family, Coral Ridge Ministries, and others warn people about the coming doom.

Let’s be clear: the debt crisis in our nation is a Tier A issue within the evangelical community, right up there with abortion, gay marriage, and Muslim terrorism.

The video is posted on a YouTube account named UncleSamAmerica that was started just yesterday and features only this video.

What does Brody mean when he says "CBN sent out this video"?  That they produced it or merely that they simply forwarded it?

Either way, what on earth is going on when Pat Robertson's CBN "news" organization has begun producing and/or promioting political issue ads?

Barber: Gays Don't Want The White Picket Fence, They Want To Burn It Down

The topic of discussion on yesterday's episode of Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom Radio" was yet another case in Liberty Counsel's ongoing crusade to deny lesbians access to children they raised with former partners.

During the discussion, Matt Barber explained that their efforts were necessary because even gay activists know "in their heart of hearts" that children cannot have two mothers or fathers and that the real goal of such activists is not to have a family and a white picket fence, but to simply gain access to that life so they can destory it for everyone:

Markell: Bachmann Represents "All Things Righteous"

Michele Bachmann’s relationship with Jan Markell, a Messianic Jewish activist who leads Olive Tree Ministries, recently faced growing scrutiny because of Markell’s End Times beliefs and claims that “the gay agenda and abortion” bring God’s judgment on America. Bachmann was once a frequent guest on Markell’s radio show, where she attacked gay rights and complained about the alleged persecution of American Christians.

Despite her numerous appearances with Markell the congresswoman has denied knowing her, maybe because Markell contends that the deadly earthquake in Japan was punishment for the Japanese not converting to Christianity and that the Mattel toy Little Mommy Cuddle 'n Coo subliminally promotes Islam.

But now Markell wants to set the record straight that she is not only a Bachmann stalwart but a longtime friend. She told the American Family Association’s OneNewsNow that she has known Bachmann for thirty years and “cannot speak highly enough of” her:

The head of a Minnesota-based Messianic Jewish ministry says she's known Michele Bachmann for 30 years and can testify that the Republican presidential candidate stands for "all things righteous."

But Jan Markell, founder and director of Minnesota-based Olive Tree Ministries, has known Bachmann for 30 years and says she is convinced that she "absolutely has national leadership written all over her."

"If anyone is truly competent to hold the office of president or vice president of the United States -- and particularly, I think starting out as vice president would be a little bit more suited at this time -- it is Michele Bachmann," Markell contends.

Moreover, she has much to say about Bachmann's faith.

"This woman is a wonderful Christian; she is as pro-Israel as they come," the Olive Tree Ministries founder accounts. "I cannot speak highly enough of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and her stand on all things righteous."

She adds that Bachmann has taken the country by storm, but only God knows if she will continue to do so through November of 2012.

Perry Won't Take Responsibility For Radical Attendees At His Prayer Event

Sometimes you have to wonder if Rick Perry had any idea what he was getting into when he decided to organizer a massive public prayer rally with the bigoted American Family Association and then fill it with a bunch of Religious Right activists and self-proclaimed "prophets" and "apostles" who believe that Oprah is a forerunner to the Antichrist and the Statue of Liberty is a "demonic idol."

Because it sure seems like he doesn't have a clue at all:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Monday that he doesn't necessarily subscribe to the beliefs of some of the ministers coming to his prayer summit next month.

"I'm sure that through my elections in the past that there have been some groups that have endorsed me publicly, that I appreciate their endorsements, but their endorsements of me doesn't mean I endorse what they believe in or what they say," Perry said.

...

In his first discussion with reporters about some of the ministers associated with his call to pray for the nation, Perry indicated he is willing to associate with all of them even if he disagrees with some of their beliefs. He likened it to political endorsements.

"I appreciate anyone who's going to endorse me, whether it's on The Response, or whether it's on a potential run for the presidency of the United States," he said. "Just because you endorse me doesn't mean I endorse everything that you say or do."

Does he not recall what happened when John McCain accepted the endorsements of John Hagee and Rod Parsely?  He had to publicly reject them because of the radical things they had said and, in doing so, made clear that their views were "crazy and unacceptable" as well as "deeply offensive and indefensible" and stated that "there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement."

Perry, by contrast, is including Hagee in his prayer rally, along with a variety of other fringe figures who have said equally outrageous things. And Perry is more than willing to publicly stand with every one of them while claiming that he is not responsible in any way.

This is not some prayer rally being organized by some other group at which he is simply going to be an attendee; this is Rick Perry's prayer event - he conceived it, he set it in motion, and he is its public face.

And he is therefore responsible for the types of people he chooses to associate with at his event.

Right Wing Round-Up

Right Wing Leftovers

  • If Michele Bachmann thinks she is going to be able to downplay her anti-gay views and history, she had better think again though, of course, she'll always have GOProud there to defend her.
  • Gary Bauer tries to win libertarians over to the anti-gay marriage side.
  • Reminder: Harry Potter is very dangerous.
  • Cindy Jacobs records a video urging people to attend "The Response."
  • Finally, Ralph Reed says "the evangelical vote is not Lady Gaga; it’s more like Madonna. We don’t need to reinvent what’s been around for awhile, we just need to keep it sharp." I have no idea what that means.

Cass To Launch Project Using 9/11 Anniversary to "Stop Islam In America"

You know who probably won't be defending the rights of Muslims to build mosques in their communities or exercise their religious liberties? Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission who announced in a recent email his intention to launch a program tied to the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks that will "stop Islam in America" once and for all:

We have to face the hard reality that unless we act decisively now we are headed for a show down with a more powerful and merciless Islamic foe. We must stop Islam's growth in America because if Muslims get strong enough, history proves what Muslims are going to do. It's our children and grand children that will suffer!

...

For Islam to grow Muslims must lie and suppress the truth about the Qur'an and what Mohammad did, perverted things like having sex with a nine-year-old girl. Muslims strategically try to convert kids in poor neighborhoods with broken homes because they are most vulnerable to being radicalized by Islam. Because politically correct public schools refuse to tell the truth about Islam they cause our young people to be susceptible to Muslim indoctrination.

This year is the Tenth Anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. This gives us an incredible opportunity to expose the lies of Islam. That's why we are going to launch our "911 DEFEND OUR STUDENTS CAMPAIGN." We are going to defend our youth by bringing the truth to High Schools closest to the most dangerous Mosques in America. We already have cities requesting that we come and show them how to reach their community, but we can't go unless you send us.

We will peacefully distribute literature to students as they enter their school. Press conferences will be held to explain why radical mosques and negligent schools have forced us to defend our youth. The whole community will have to come to grips with the threat of Islam in their midst. With your help we will destroy Islam's ability to exploit America's next generation with their lies and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

...

By the grace of God we will stop Islam in America! We plan to use the lead up to the Tenth Anniversary of September 11 to force America to face the clear and present threat to our youth. Our prayer is this will become an annual event that reaches every high school in America with the truth about Islam on the anniversary of September 11th.
