Trump-supporting “prophetic” personality Lance Wallnau will host a preelection “prayer assault” and spiritual warfare rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., this weekend. Wallnau’s advocacy on behalf of Trump has earned him insider status at the White House.
Wallnau, a promoter of Seven Mountains Dominionist theology, is a member of the leadership council of the POTUS Shield prayer network. He has described Trump as a “rough prophet.” Wallnau recently declared, “Fighting with Trump is fighting with God” and he blamed demons living inside journalists for “all of the animosity, hatred, venom, and vitriol” that is stirred up against Trump. This month, he appealed to God to make sure that Trump was reelected so that heathens will not be able to embarrass Trump.
On Friday, Wallnau promoted this weekend’s “As One” rally with an email with the subject line, “The Storm is Here”—the latest example of a religious-right figure employing rhetoric popular among followers of QAnon conspiracy theories. In QAnon-speak, “The Storm” refers to predicted mass arrests of powerful people—political opponents of Trump—that are supposedly involved in a satanic pedophile network that Trump is always just on the verge of bringing down. Amedia doesn’t mention that conspiracy, but does use the storm metaphor to describe “demonic turbulence” and a “cultural tropical war” that will “make landfall” during the Nov. 3 elections:
Over the last few months it has been like watching a cultural tropical storm ramp up into a category 5 hurricane, and now as the eye of the storm is about to make landfall America’s 2020 election is the flood barrier upon which this storm now breaks. The question on everyone’s mind is, “Will the ship of state be able weather the storm or will it sink?”
For more reasons than COVID, the nation is dealing with an “invisible enemy.” If we do nothing to stop this demonic turbulence, it will not simply go away, it will actually increase and intensify. … We must learn to deal with the organizational structures looking to exploit the turbulence and the spirits working behind them.
“We are going to have to wage war in the heavenlies and contend for the destiny of America,” Wallnau wrote.
A day earlier, another rally-promoting email from Wallnau and his wife Anabelle declared, “This coming election will define, or redefine, America as we know it for the next 50 years.”
“Yet, many Christians choose not to vote because they don’t think it will make a difference, especially if they live in states dominated by a demonic ideology,” Thursday’s email stated. “What they fail to realize is that their vote means something, their vote counts, it is a seed they get to plant in the soil of America. It is a statement of faith.”
Like other leaders associated with the New Apostolic Reformation movement within Pentecostal Christianity, Wallnau believes that the church has a responsibility to “disciple nations.”
“We must do all we can to support candidates on every level who will govern according to Biblical principles,” the Wallnaus wrote.
Last year Wallnau charged people about $1,000 for a “spiritual warfare” gathering at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Wallnau was planning a “Glorious Chaos” tour of swing states to promote Trump, who Wallnau declared “God’s Chaos Candidate” in 2016.
Wallnau’s “As One” rally is scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 31 from 6pm to 9 pm and Sunday, Nov. 1 from 10am to 6pm. Scheduled speakers include Mario Murillo, Ramiro Pena, Robert Henderson, Mario Bramnick, and Jeremiah Johnson and some “wonder women” from event sponsor Women Fighting for America.
According to Wallnau, the Museum of the Bible, a culture-war beachhead for religious-right activists in the nation’s capital, is offering “As One” attendees a 50 percent discount.
