Matt Barber: States Should Defy Roe And Jail Abortion Providers

Matt Barber joined Steve Deace on his radio program yesterday to discuss the actions of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who’s urging judges in his state to defy a federal judge and refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples.

Barber told Deace that whether or not the United States Supreme Court has “the authority to redefine the institution of marriage, which cannot be done, it’s contrary to reality to say that it’s anything other than the male and female,” Moore is on “solid legal ground” in claiming that the Alabama Supreme Court takes precedence over the federal district court that issued the marriage ruling.

Deace asked Barber why the conservative movement was less willing to defy the federal courts during Judge Moore’s 2003 standoff over placing a Ten Commandments monument in his courthouse or after Roe v. Wade, “when the court said, ‘We’re going to start just massacring, dismembering little innocent babies.’”

Barber agreed that states should have simply ignored the court’s ruling in Roe: “Why, back when the courts issued their ridiculous, non-scientific ruling in Roe v. Wade, why didn’t states like Texas and other states say, ‘Okay, well thank you for your opinion, but nope, here in the state of Texas, you kill an unborn child, you’ve committed murder, we’re going to throw you in jail for it’?”

Later in the interview, Deace repeated his prediction that a sweeping marriage ruling would ignite an even greater culture war battle than Roe did.

Barber agreed, saying the “goal all along” of the “sin-based, sodomy-based marriage” movement has been to persecute Christians.

“Religious liberty and so-called gay marriage cannot coexist in harmony,” he said. “If the Supreme Court goes Roe v. Wade on this decision and divines a new-fangled right to sin-based, sodomy-based marriage, Christians will be being persecuted across the country. They will be told, ‘You either put your stamp of approval on sin or you will be pushed to the fringes and marginalized and you will not be able to carry a job or function in society.’ That’s been their goal all along anyway.”

Mat Staver: Marriage Equality Might Turn Kids Gay

In an interview in January, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver warned that the Supreme Court could “change Western Civilization” if it “goes the wrong way” and strikes down bans on same-sex marriage.

Marriage equality, he said on the conservative radio show “Point of View,” might even lure children into homosexuality.

“It also changes everything in the school when they begin to learn not just about same-sex relationships, but about same-sex activities,” Staver said. “They ultimately get encouraged to pursue this kind of lifestyle. They have gender confusion when young boys naturally are gravitating towards one another and young girls towards one another, if you now inject the same-sex sexual activity into the school curriculum, it will suggest to them and ultimately push them on a road of experimentation where they might engaged in same-sex activity.”

Staver also saw the bright side of a gay marriage victory, claiming that the effects of legal same-sex marriage will be so devastating that “we could see the greatest revival of our country and the church standing up being the church.”

If not, Staver warned, “we’re going to see persecution.”

“This is going to be the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s for religious liberty,” he said.

  • After repeated losses, Liberty Counsel has now taken its lawsuit against New Jersey's ban on ex-gay "reparative" therapy to the Supreme Court.
  • It looks like the right-wing attacks on anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist for allegedly being a secret Islamist might actually threaten his re-election to the board of the NRA.
  • Linda Harvey is terrified of what gay marriage will bring: "It should break the heart of any freedom loving, God-honoring American to say this, but there is no evidence that America has the moral will to prevent the following 'gay-stapo' dreams from being fulfilled shortly after."
  • FRC prays that God will finally "awaken your people in America to stand in the gap with extraordinary prayer and to demand that our elected representatives act to defeat ISIS and hold President accountable to defend all Americans, including Christians and Jews who have been uniquely targeted by ISIS."
  • Finally, Gary Cass declares that Christians should take comfort in the fact that the Prophet Muhammad "is eternally dead in Hell and suffering the just penalty for his sin."

Staver: Obama 'Is Bringing Curses Upon America'

For the third week in a row, Mat Staver and Matt Barber continued to use Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program to falsely accuse President Obama of directly and illegally interfering in the upcoming Israeli elections in an effort to defeat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with Staver declaring today that Obama is bringing God's curse upon America by doing so.

"Our Judeo-Christian history connects us together, connects us to Israel and the Jewish people," Staver said. "That's where our Judeo-Christian history was born and birthed. That's how Western Civilization was shaped, because of the Bible and the values that came out of Israel. And this president is doing everything he can to walk away from Israel."

"You know, Genesis 12 says 'I will bless those who bless you,' referring to the offspring of Abraham, which is Israel, 'and I will curse them who curse you,'" he continued. "The president is bringing curses upon America by ultimately walking away from Israel. I think that it is dangerous to not respect and protect our best ally":

Liberty Counsel Goes From Fighting Anti-Christian 'Persecution' In America To Fighting 'Anti-Christian Genocide' Globally

A few weeks ago, Mat Staver announced that Liberty Counsel was creating a new humanitarian arm, called Liberty Relief International, that will provide aid and assistance to Christians and Jews facing violent persecution around the world:

The fact is, the world is becoming more and more dangerous for Christians and Jews. Anti-Semitism and anti-Christian bigotry are on the rise due, in large part, to the rapid expansion of radical Islamism. Providing humanitarian relief, with an emphasis on helping those facing religious persecution, has become a vital aspect of Liberty Counsel’s mission of advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and the family.

Which brings us to this special day and the online launch of Liberty Relief International, the humanitarian relief arm of Liberty Counsel.

We now envision a much-expanded vision of what Liberty Counsel can do through humanitarian relief, most notably where Christians and Jews are facing a rising tide of persecution.

On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast, Staver and co-host Matt Barber discussed this new effort, which Barber asserted was a natural fit for Liberty Counsel because the organization already has extensive experience fighting gay rights, President Obama's "cultural Marxism," and anti-Christian persecution in America.

"This is such a natural evolution of Liberty Counsel," Barber declared. "For decades, Liberty Counsel has been, of course, defending Christians and people of faith against the growing, the burgeoning problem in the United States that is cultural Marxism. Many people who control the reins of government are pushing the radical so-called LGBT agenda, the pro-abortion agenda; even we have a president, a leftist president, who embraces all of those cultural Marxist causes which are directly contrary to the tenets of Christianity."

"And so Liberty Counsel has defended in the courts and in public policy around what I call 'soft persecution' here in the United States," he continued. "Christians being persecuted for standing firm on the biblical truth relative to sexual morality and the sanctity of life and the natural family and so forth. So it's natural ... [that Liberty Counsel would be well-placed to defend people] who are being abused and even tortured to death in an anti-Christian genocide":

Mat Staver: Homosexuality Is 'Very Deadly And Damaging'

Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel stopped by VCY America’s “Crosstalk” yesterday to discuss his group’s attempt to stop judges from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Alabama. Staver praised Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore for flouting the ruling of a federal court on the matter and lashed out at the Supreme Court for rejecting Alabama’s appeal of the marriage case, saying that Alabama “does not have to obey” any future Supreme Court ruling “that there’s some invented right to same-sex marriage and therefore you can’t have marriage as a union of a man and a woman.”

“That is so far off the beaten path, so far removed from the Constitution that it is no rule of law,” Staver said. “There is a limit to what the court can do, there is a limit to what the people can stomach. If that court were to say, the laws of gravity were fine for the founders but we have progressed, we’re a progressive society and we think they have changed, you would say, ‘That’s nuts, have they lost their mind?’ The question is: Have they lost their mind by saying there’s a constitutional right for same-sex marriage?”

“Have they literally lost their mind?” he asked.

Staver added that legalizing same-sex marriage is “harmful” to children because it tells them that “your moms and dads are absolutely meaningless.”

“Why would we take a relationship of same-sex unions, same-sex sexual activity, protect it and elevate it when we know that it’s a very harmful and it’s a very deadly and damaging relationship?” Staver asked. “Why would we elevate some kind of bad relationship, bad activity, dangerous and harmful, unhealthy activity to a protected status?”

Barber & Staver: 'Obama Is Not The Leader Of The Free World' And 'The Sooner He Goes, The Better'

Promoting the entirely bogus claim that President Obama is somehow secretly working to undermine the re-election of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mat Staver and Matt Barber ripped Obama on Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program today, declaring that Netanyahu, not Obama, is the leader of the free world.

Continuing the Religious Right tradition of blindly and silently accepting whatever Israel does regardless of how it conflicts with their supposed principles, Barber wondered if the world was "reliving the 1930s" as Netanyahu, the modern-day Winston Churchill, must fight against President Obama's Neville Chamberlain-like efforts to appease the Nazis, who are, in this case, radical Islamic militants.

"It is absolutely unconscionable," Barber said. "You know, President Obama is not the leader of the free world, Benjamin Netanyahu is the leader of the free world."

Staver, of course, shared those views, saying that "President Obama is bad for America [and] the sooner he goes, the better":

Staver: If People Accept A SCOTUS Ruling In Favor Of Gay Marriage 'Then America Is Gone'

On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast, Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver warned that if the American people accept a Supreme Court ruling recognizing same-sex marriage, it will be the end of this nation as we know it.

After Staver and co-host Matt Barber absurdly argued that Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan are legally required to recuse themselves from the upcoming marriage equality case, Barber wondered what will happen if the court "unconstitutionally imposes counterfeit same-sex marriage on all of those states that live in marriage reality," to which Staver replied that it will spell the end of America.

"The question is whether the church, whether the community, whether our society will sit back and tolerate it," he said. "If they do, then America is gone":

Liberty Counsel: Christians Who Discriminate Against Gays Are Living Out MLK's Legacy

Liberty Counsel issued a press release yesterday in which the anti-gay organization attempted to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by declaring that conservative Christians who refuse to provide services to gay couples are the ones who are living out MLK's legacy:

As we remember today the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are inspired by his courage to combat injustice that had become imbedded in our culture and our law.

Writing from a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. King said, “I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that ‘an unjust law is no law at all.’”

“Marriage as the union of one man and one woman was not created by government or religion. It is rooted in natural law,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “Same-sex marriage is contrary to the natural created order of God Almighty. Laws deconstructing natural marriage and which compel people to affirm sinful sexual behavior or unions are unjust.”

...

Today, the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is being lived out by bakers, photographers, florists, ministers, county clerks, and owners of wedding venues who have lost their businesses, been forced to pay exorbitant fines, been threatened with jail, and made to choose between the natural created order of marriage between one man and one woman and judges who side with same-sex couples.

Mat Staver: GOP Should Shut Down The Government Over 'Genderbread Person'

Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver and Matt Barber were absolutely beside themselves on today's "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast over the fact that Planned Parenthood staff had reportedly used "Genderbread Person" diagrams during a sex ed class at a California high school last month.

The diagram, which is designed to teach the differences between biological sex, sexual attraction, gender identity, and gender expression, had Staver and Barber fuming, with Staver repeatedly calling it "insane," "nuts," and "absurd" while Barber decried it as "wicked sexual anarchist psychobabble."

"You can think you're a ham sandwich," Barber said, "but it doesn't make you a ham sandwich."

Staver was so outraged by this diagram, in fact, that is he calling on Republicans to shut down the government, if necessary, in order to cut off all federal funding to Planned Parenthood.

"What they're trying to do is harm young people," Staver said. "They're trying to harm a generation. We ought to be outraged at this. This underscores why Planned Parenthood should receive no dollars from any government. We now have a majority Republican Senate and a majority Republican House ... That majority must defund Planned Parenthood. There is no reason, and if the government has to shut down, let the government shut down."

Barber: Non-Discrimination Policies Are Discriminatory Against Christians

After refusing to comply with San Jose State University’s non-discrimination policy earlier this year, the school’s InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter lost its status as an officially recognized campus organization and Matt Barber is outraged, fuming on a recent "Faith and Freedom" radio program that Christians are becoming open targets for discrimination all over America.

As Barber sees it, not allowing Christians to discriminate against gays is itself discrimination against Christians.

"It's an excuse to discriminate against Christians," Barber said of such non-discrimination policies, "that's all it is and it's stupid. It's just plain stupid. Imagine going to the African American organization on your campus and saying that you have to allow an open, avowed white supremacist as the leader of this African American organization, maybe a student branch of the NAACP. That is no different than what we are talking about here, but because it's Christians, and this is the truth, really the last group here in the United States that is fair game, that is an open target for discrimination such as this are Christians":

Staver: Ex-Gay Therapy Bans Are 'An Assault Against God Almighty'

For the last several days, Liberty Counsel's daily "Faith and Freedom" radio program has been taking a look back at the work the organization did in 2014, with Mat Staver declaring on a recent program that they must be successful in their fight against bans on the use of ex-gay "reparative" therapy on minors in California, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. because such bans are part of the so-called gay agenda's "direct assault" on God.

"These whole issues of homosexuality is a direct assault on gender, on family, on marriage," Staver said. "As a policy matter, if you were to sanction homosexuality in the law, you are sanctioning harmful activity to individuals. It is patently unhealthy, both physically and mentally ... We cannot recreate the natural created order and assume that there are no consequences; there are consequences to children. So Liberty Counsel is involved in these strategic areas, these areas of assault against the family, against gender, against marriage and family; they are an assault against the very foundation of our society, they are an assault against God Almighty and his created order. This is an assault against all of the Judeo-Christian values that we hold near and dear and that's why we must be involved in these cases, we must win these cases":

Religious Right Cheers On Vladimir Putin As Anti-LGBT Violence In Russia Surges

While most of the news on Russia this week has been focused on the country’s ongoing financial collapse, it is important to highlight a report released by Human Rights Watch on Monday documenting the rise of anti-LGBT violence in Russia along with the ways the government, which recently passed new laws curbing LGBT rights, has ensured virtual impunity for the perpetrators of such attacks. Following the report’s release, Russia added a LGBT legal aid group to a list of NGOs that must register as “foreign agents.”

The uptick in violence against LGBT Russians certainly won't discourage Religious Right activists from supporting Putin, many of whom also seem more than willing to ignore his deadly incursion into Ukraine , support for laws curbing the freedoms of Russian evangelical Christians and other human rights abuses.

Nothing, it seems, can dissuade many of Putin’s American supporters, several of whom recently attended an anti-LGBT conference at the Kremlin, from believing that the U.S. should adopt anti-gay laws modeled on Russia’s, such as a ban on gay “propaganda” and adoption by same-sex parents.

In fact, many Religious Right activists in the U.S. believe that Putin is on a mission from God to save Russia, and the world, from the LGBT community.

Crush on Putin

It is no secret that many conservatives have fallen under Putin’s spell.

Matt Drudge has called Putin the “leader of the free world.” Sarah Palin has fawned over the Russian leader’s wrestling abilities. Franklin Graham has hailed Putin for “protecting children from any homosexual agenda or propaganda” and having “taken a stand to protect his nation’s children from the damaging effects of any gay and lesbian agenda.” Larry Jacobs of the World Congress of Families, the group that helped organize the Kremlin meeting, praised Putin last year for “preventing [gay people] from corrupting children.”

Religious Right leader and Iowa GOP kingmaker Bob Vander Plaats has upheld Putin as a world leader in morality. Josh Craddock, who represents Personhood USA at the United Nations, came back from the Kremlin conference cheering on Russia as a “light to the world.” Liberty Counsel chairman Mat Staver expressed offense last year that Obama would dare criticize Putin. One Fox News host wished that Putin could be president of the United States, even for just 48 hours.

Any violence against Russian gays, one Religious Right group explained, is probably “provoked by homosexual activists.” Massachusetts-based pastor Scott Lively, who has taken credit for inspiring Russia’s “propaganda” law, dismissed anti-LGBT violence in Russia as a “hoax” and told right-wing radio show host Linda Harvey that if violent anti-gay incidents occur, other gay people were likely the perpetrators.

God Will Favor Russia Instead Of America, Thanks Obama

Anti-gay activists think that God has decided to bless Russia, thanks to Putin’s leadership, while punishing the U.S. for passing rebellious gay rights laws. Pat Buchanan clearly articulated this mindset in a column in April titled “Is God Now On Russia’s Side?,” in which he likened the U.S. and Western Europe to Sodom and Gomorrah and cheerfully proclaimed that “Putin is planting Russia’s flag firmly on the side of traditional Christianity.”

In a February column, Don Feder of the World Congress of Families gushed that Putin had become the new Ronald Reagan: “As my friend and Russian pro-family leader Alexey Komov likes to say: 'Under Reagan, America helped to save us from communism. We'd like to return the favor.'”

Lively made the case last year that Putin is “the only world leader capable of standing up to the West” and could “inspire all the morally conservative countries of the world to adopt a similar law that he just adopted.” In the same interview, Lively called Obama the Antichrist.

“The country that’s acting like it’s part of the kingdom of the Antichrist is the United States of America, and Russia is standing against homosexual marriage, they’re standing for traditional family values,” Religious Right radio host Rick Wiles said in September. “The United States is exporting its wickedness, we’re using our power and might to force nations to change their laws to accept abortion, to accept homosexual marriage and homosexual rights, so which country is part of the Antichrist system and which is not?”

Wiles even predicted that the U.S. would soon go to war against Russia “with an atheistic, Jesus-hating, pro-homosexual, pro-lesbian, pro-transgender military and we're going to go up against another military carrying a Christian cross.”

Bring Anti-Gay Laws To The U.S.

Anti-gay activist Matt Barber said earlier this year that it was “encouraging” to see more anti-gay measures coming out of Russia, adding that he would like to see laws that “stop this homosexual activist propaganda from corrupting children in our nation and we need to see that right here in the United States.”

Peter LaBarbera called Russia’s “propaganda” law an “acceptable” and necessary way to stop companies like Disney from “promoting lesbianism to kids,” while American Family Association governmental affairs director Sandy Rios said the speech-inhibiting law was just “common sense.”

One of Putin’s most vocal cheerleaders, American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer, has called him a “lion of Christianity” and repeatedly demanded that the U.S. enact similar bans on gay “propaganda.”

Since the U.S. hasn’t embrace such an anti-gay crackdown, Religious Right activist William Murray writes, Americans are now “fleeing” to Russia in order to avoid LGBT equality at home.

Barber And Staver: The Fight Against Gay Marriage Is 'The Next Civil Rights Movement'

After a federal court struck down North Carolina's ban on gay marriage in October, several magistrates in the state voluntarily left office rather than perform gay marriages and Mat Staver and Matt Barber are not happy about it, using their "Faith and Freedom" radio program today to call upon anti-gay government officials to "stand their ground" by refusing to follow the law ... just like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks.

"What would have happened," Barber asked, "if Martin Luther King, Jr. had just stood down and said, 'No, I can't participate in all of this, I'm just going to remain silent, I'm going to resign and go on my way'"?

Instead, he said, magistrates should stay in their positions and tell the government "you're going to have to come after me, you're going to have to fire me, you're going to have to jail me."

"This is about civil rights," Barber said and Staver readily agreed, saying that America is undergoing "a civil rights revolution."

"But it's not the homosexual agenda," Staver said, "because you can't elevate sexually immoral behavior to the level of race or religious freedom as a civil right. It has been historically condemned as immoral, it has been historically, throughout western civilization, been considered a crime against nature. The fact of the matter is you can't take something that has been so historically thought of and elevate it to this preferred level and then force everyone to applaud it without resistance."

More and more Americans, Staver said, are realizing that this "intolerant agenda" must be stopped: "This is not America. This is not freedom. This is totalitarianism."

"Homosexuality is a moral wrong," Barber added, "so this is the next civil rights movement here and it's an anti-Christian attack, systemic, government-organized and facilitated attacks against freedom of religious expression and Christians":

Mat Staver: Homosexuality Part Of Communist Plan To Defeat The West

Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel appeared on Tuesday’s edition of “Crosstalk,” Voice of Christian Youth America’s flagship radio program, where he argued that homosexuality will destroy civilization as we know it.

When a caller cited Cleon Skousen’s 1956 book “The Naked Communist” to claim that homosexuality is part of a communist endeavor “to soften America for the final takeover,” Staver completely agreed: “Yes, Skousen has a lot of good writings. In fact, he mentioned that many years ago and here’s where we are today.”

“Same-sex marriage is the beginning of the end of western civilization,” he said. “It really is, it’s that serious.”

Staver said leaders in countries like Peru and Jamaica have told them that Obama is an “interventionist” “with regards to immoral issues,” warning that the president is “using our State Department dollars and the ambassadors that he’s appointed to promote abortion and same-sex marriage.”

He also decried America’s “shameful” opposition to Jamaica’s ban on homosexuality.

Staver recently traveled to the country to defend its laws making it a crime to be gay.

Barber And Staver Think Abortion Causes Breast Cancer Because 'The Wages Of Sin Is Death'

On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver and Matt Barber were discussing what they contend is a link between abortion and breast cancer. While this claim is a favorite of the anti-choice movement, it is disputed by the likes of the American Cancer Society, which says that "scientific evidence does not support the notion that abortion of any kind raises the risk of breast cancer or any other type of cancer."

Nonetheless, Barber and Staver are quite sure that such a link exists because it is only natural for a "sin" like abortion to carry with it deadly consequences.

"Scripture talks about the wages of sin is death," Barber said. "It strikes me that abortion is a sin, abortion is absolutely a sin, so the natural consequence of an unnatural behavior of going in an killing an unborn baby in the mother's womb therefore wreaking havoc, killing the child, that is a sin and the wages of sin there, the natural consequence of that havoc that has been wreaked here is an increased risk of breast cancer."

When Barber sought to clarify that he was not saying that breast cancer is God's way of punishing women who have had abortions, Staver stepped in to say that having an abortion was no different than ingesting poison.

"You take strychnine or you take some kind of poison into your body, you have to expect that there's going to be consequences," Staver said. "It's an obvious natural consequence to an act, a choice that someone makes":

Matt Barber Claims Satan Is 'The Author' Of Gay Marriage

On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver and Matt Barber were discussing the recent Vatican summit that was attended by a variety of anti-gay American Religious Right activists.

Staver and Barber praised those who attended, especially Rick Warren, for their strong stand against gay marriage, which Barber said was designed by Satan.

"There are flip sides to a coin here," Barber said. "God designed marriage between man and woman in Genesis and Christ himself reiterated this Matthew 19, said it's between a man and a woman. If God is the author of marriage, man-woman marriage, then you have to ask, we're talking about the spiritual context here, who is the author of this perverted marriage, idea of marriage, which is the flip-side of the coin? God is the author of natural marriage. The Enemy is the author of unnatural marriage, and that's what we're talking about here, unnatural marriage, counterfeit marriage. It's the flip side of the coin. It's light and dark":
