RWW’s Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right. Of course Republicans would never resort to using the Ebola outbreak in West Africa or violence committed by terrorist groups like ISIS to score political points against President Obama … they are just merely asking the question if Obama plans to put us into FEMA camps, let terrorists cross the border into the U.S. and infect everyone with Ebola. 5. Get Ready For FEMA Camps Right-wing commentators seem pretty convinced that President Obama actually wants the Ebola outbreak... MORE >

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Dan Forest followed Texas Lt. Gov. candidate Dan Patrick to the microphone at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s 2014 Road to Majority conference. Forest joked about following another “Lieutenant Dan” and said he’d been backstage crossing things out because Patrick was already saying them. Indeed, Forest’s comments about the Constitution being grounded in “biblical truth” echoed Patrick’s Christian-nation address. “My friends,” Forest said, “America is at a great crossroads where it must decide for or... Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick, the GOP nominee for Lt. Governor, addressed Friday night’s session of the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference. Patrick said that America is a Christian nation, that politics is about building God’s kingdom, and that America’s policies must be grounded in the Bible. Excerpts from Dan Patrick's remarks: Patrick portrayed his resounding come-from-behind victory over incumbent David Dewhurst as God’s will. He said he started every campaign appearance by saying, “’I’m a Christian first, I... MORE >

Just two years after the Texas GOP passed a resolution in support of a national guest-worker program, Republican activists are hoping to scrap the plank at this week’s state party convention. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that several delegates have complained that the provision amounts to “amnesty” and doesn’t send the message that “illegal immigration is illegal and shouldn’t be tolerated.” While Texas Republicans have pledged to focus on outreach to immigrant communities, their gubernatorial nominee, Attorney General Greg Abbott, has... Texas GOP lieutenant governor candidate and state senator Dan Patrick warned yesterday of supposed left-wing indoctrination in public schools. Right-wing claims about CSCOPE, a curriculum program used in Texas, have been roundly debunked, but Patrick, a longtime CSCOPE critic, repeated the bogus claims in an interview yesterday on the Family Research Council’s Washington Watch. Patrick claimed that the CSCOPE curriculum frames the Boston Tea Party as the work of “terrorists” and promotes communism. He also criticized public schools for having “a bias for the... MORE >

Texas Republican state senator Dan Patrick is not impressed by Wendy Davis. Despite Davis’ all day filibuster of an anti-choice bill, Patrick thinks he is the one that deserves the praise. Patrick, the sponsor of the bill, told Mike Huckabee today that he urged his fellow Republicans to break Senate tradition and stop the filibuster. He compared his action to Jesus’ criticism of the Pharisees for placing too much importance on “laws and rules.” Patrick went on to encourage other senators to similarly cast off the law, asking, “Are we going to become the modern...
