American Family Association

E. W. Jackson, the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor in Virginia, was the guest on Bryan Fischer's radio program today where he was treated to a sympathetic interview by a host who shares his radical views.

During the discussion, Jackson stood by his anti-gay and anti-abortion views and suggested that efforts to hold him accountable for his previous statements now that he is running for office was somehow an unconstitutional religious test.

Jackson seems to believe that things he said about political issues are not relevant to his political candidacy because he said those things in his capacity as a minister and so using them against him in his campaign amounts to anti-Christian persecution:

It's a sad commentary on our media and culture today that anybody that expresses a Biblical worldview is marginalized and, frankly, not too put too fine a point on it, persecuted for doing so. And I think that's a sad commentary.

But look, it's an attack ultimately on every church-going, Bible-believing Christian out there who holds to a traditional worldview and frankly, I think one of my goals is to champion their right to hold their views without being persecuted for it.

I think Americans are tired of being told that holding to Judeo-Christian values somehow makes you can idiot, as you put it, makes you backwoods, makes you ignorant and unless you buy into the sort of contemporary morality of the day, you are a person to be shunned.

Our Founding Fathers believed that there should never be a religious test and yet that's what we're seeing today. We're seeing people apply a religious test and they're saying anything you believed or said as a minister disqualifies you from serving as Lt. Governor because you hold to these Biblical views.

For some reason, Fischer did not disabuse Jackson of this notion and explain that while "the federal government cannot use a religious test, but voters can, and they should.  Let’s be done with the nonsense that asking questions about a candidate’s faith is inappropriate. It certainly is not. In fact, in some ways, the faith questions are the most important, because they go right to the issue of a man’s most deeply held convictions and values."

On his radio program yesterday, Bryan Fischer took a call from a listener who declared that anyone who doesn't understand that President Obama is a "communist Muslim" who is waging "holy jihad" against Evangelical Christians in America is a "pea brain," which prompted Fischer to reply that "a lot of what [the caller] had to say is exactly right."

Fischer went on to add his own two cents, declaring that this is "the most virulent anti-Christian, anti-Christ, anti-God administration that we've ever had in American history," adding, for good measure, that it is also anti-Semitic.

Saying that we don't know whether Obama is actually a Muslim or not, Fischer suggested that there is reason to suspect that he is because it is obvious that he "has Muslim sympathies" and that "he has never said a kind word about Christianity."

Citing an entirely unverified and dubious report in support of this claim, Fischer then went on to state that while President Bush's enemies were foreign enemies who targeted America, Fischer said that President Obama's enemies are domestic, which is why he is targeting Evangelical Christians like the American Family Association:

The American Family Association’s One Million Moms is asking members to contact advertisers on “The Fosters,” a show about a lesbian couple raising adopted, biological and foster children, and demand that they drop the program for “attacking my faith, morals and values.”

“Not only is this program insulting to conservative viewers and traditional families,” the sample email to advertisers reads, “but it also focuses on a controversial subject that your company would probably not desire to be associated with.”

The group claims that the show’s emphasis on helping foster children is offset by the attempt to “redefine marriage and family by having two moms raise these children together” and “desensitize America and our children by promoting inappropriate behavior, especially on a family channel.”

ABC Family Channel has several anti-family programs and has now added to that growing list. ABC Family's new show "The Fosters" is about a lesbian couple and their diverse family. Adding this program to a lineup that already includes "Pretty Little Liars," "Twisted," "Daddy Baby" and "The Lying Game" many demonstrates to families that ABC Family Channel is anything but family-friendly. But, because "family" is part of the network's name, we thought a warning should be sent out to anyone who continues to watch the channel.

New episodes will air on Monday evenings at 9:00pm ET/8:00pm CT. In addition, frequent promos are airing for this new series. Families should avoid the network completely; otherwise, you run the risk of viewing a commercial for this new, offensive program.

ABC Family's show "The Fosters" is about two women raising a multi-ethnic mix of foster and biological kids. While foster care and adoption is a wonderful thing and the Bible does teach us to help orphans, this program is attempting to redefine marriage and family by having two moms raise these children together. Unacceptable content in the first episode included one foster child as an inmate in a juvenile detention center, sneaking and selling prescription drugs to earn money, a lesbian couple kissing on the mouth and snuggling in bed together, mentioning they are gay multiple times and purchasing condoms for their eldest son. …

Please send an email letter to the sponsors of this week's program "The Fosters." This week's national sponsors were: Olive Garden, Pier 1 Imports, Popeye's, Wendy's and Royal Caribbean.

Urge advertisers to place it on their "do not advertise" list in protest of the attempt to desensitize America and our children by promoting inappropriate behavior on a family channel.

As a parent and a member of OneMillionMoms.com, I strongly encourage your company to drop all plans of financially supporting the inappropriate ABC Family Channel program "The Fosters." This show is degrading to families and damaging to our culture.

I am appalled that your company is supporting a show that features homosexuality in a positive light on a family channel. While foster care and adoption is a wonderful thing, this program is attempting to redefine marriage and family by having two moms raise these children together. The content of this program also includes violence involving children, children selling drugs and parents purchasing condoms for their children so they can practice casual sex before marriage. Obviously, none of this material is acceptable to air on a family show.

While your company is a household name, I do not agree with your financial backing of this program. As a Christian, I feel you are attacking my faith, morals and values. Sandy Rios of the American Family Association hosted Fox News correspondent Todd Starnes today where they discussed a brochure [PDF] from the group DOJPride, a group representing LGBT employees at the Department of Justice, which they said was a sign that the U.S. is turning into the Soviet Union.

The brochure was simply a list of tips on creating an LGBT-inclusive work environment and has no enforcement provisions, but those plain facts didn’t stop Starns from arguing that the DOJ now “require[s] managers to post a symbol, an emblem, showing that they are pro-gay in their office.”

“This makes it clear that it’s not enough to give so-called equality, any objections must be eradicated and this is our future if we allow this to continue,” Rios warned, while Starnes called the brochure “un-American.”

Rios even claimed the LGBT rights movement is transforming America into the USSR: “When I was a girl the Soviet Union was such a great threat to the world, the spread of Communism, and those of us that remember that era we have not forgotten, we just never thought it would happen in our country. I’ve had callers to the radio show who grew up in the Soviet Bloc countries, I’ve had them call weeping to see what’s happening to our loss of freedoms.”

Fox News commentator Erick Erickson has been under attack for the last several days for remarks he made earlier this week that men should play the dominant role in society with women serving in a complimentary role.

Not surprisingly, such views have not gone over well with a lot of people, including Fox News host Megyn Kelly who had Erickson on her program today where she ripped him for his sexist views.

Even less surprisingly, Bryan Fischer, who believes that God created women to be ruled over by their husbands, has now come rushing to Erickson's defense against that "harridan Megyn Kelly."

Calling Kelly a "feminist on steroids," Fischer said she was "resentful," "angry," "hostile," and "bitter" to these "poor guys" who were just trying to defend the biblical view of the gender roles.

Fischer went on to say that Kelly was driven by an unhealthy, bitter "angry feminist energy" before finally just calling her a "dragon lady":

On his radio program yesterday, Bryan Fischer claimed that if the Supreme Court strikes down the Defense of Marriage Act, "it will be too late for America" as every state in the nation will then be forced to legalize polygamy, incest, pedophilia, and bestiality.

"It will be, at that point," Fischer said, "too late for America. We will have become Rome; we will not be slouching toward Gomorrah, we will be bull-rushing Gomorrah at warp speed":

In last month’s American Family Association magazine, Ed Vitagliano lamented that gay people might not want to be friends with Christians who are opposed to marriage equality. Vitagliano is probably not boosting his chances of making gay friends with his article in June’s AFA Journal, a two-page spread with “Sodom” plastered across the top.

The thrust of the article is that “embracing homosexuality is a sign of deep spiritual sickness” in a culture.  America, he writes, is on the verge of suppressing the truth about God’s plan and the duality of gender. “A downward death spiral results from such suppression,” he warns.

The homosexual movement has had such great success because Americans have become arrogantly self-indulgent and idolatrous. Straight America has embraced homosexuality because straight Americans first embraced the sexual revolution for the satisfaction of their own perverse sexual appetites.

Judgment came to Sodom because violent homosexuality was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. As a prevalent sin, however, it was the manifestation of an underlying wickedness that permeated the entire culture – a wickedness that was not limited to the homosexual.

Thus homosexuality often becomes the barometer of a culture rotting out from the inside. If the problem were only homosexuality, then the simple act of pushing it back into the closet  (if that were possible) would be enough to forestall judgment.

But what Ezekiel 16 teaches us is this: By the time a culture accepts idolatry, abortion and homosexuality, it is already ripe for the devastation wrought by God’s wrath.

Whether they live in a decidedly pagan culture or one, like America, that is an admixture, Christians are called to be salt and light.

Standing against the unrighteousness permeating our society might not be the easy thing to do, but it’s a whole lot easier than running from the fire and brimstone that inevitably follow.

Last week, Bryan Fischer was trying to understand why the Mormon Church was supporting the decision by the Boy Scouts of America (or "Boy Sodomizers of America," as he calls them) to lift its ban on gay scouts and came up with a novel theory.

Admitting that he has literally "no evidence that this is the case," Fischer nevertheless speculated that the LDS Church has "gone soft on the homosexual agenda" because "as the homosexual agenda advances, the next domino to fall is going to be the ban against polygamy."

"The LDS leadership," Fischer said, "these people are smart, they're sharp, they're thinking all the time and I believe one of the reasons they may have gone soft on the homosexual agenda is that they believe that the homosexual agenda may be the secret to restoring polygamy to America and this would vindicate Mormon doctrine from the very beginning":

Fred Jackson and Dan Celia of the American Family Association discussed the Boy Scouts of America’s vote to end the ban on openly gay members under the age of 18 this morning on Financial Issues, which Jackson called an “open rebellion against God.” The two expressed shock and disappointment as Jackson noted that over 60 percent of delegates backed the change in policy, and Celia predicted that this will bring “the fall of the nation.”
