Rafael Cruz Preaches Seven Mountains Theology, Tells Activists To 'Stop Electing The Village Idiot'

Rafael Cruz, the father of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and a regular campaign surrogate, delivered his usual stump speech at today’s Road to Majority summit, filled with David Barton-inspired pseudo-history and Christian Nationalism. Echoing Barton, Cruz preached Seven Mountains Dominionism, which as we have noted in the past seeks to give right-wing Christians authority “over the seven forces that shape and control our culture: (1) Business; (2) Government; (3) Media; (4) Arts and Entertainment; (5) Education; (6) Family; and (7) Religion.”

While preaching against the separation of church and state and the supposed “onslaught against Christianity and against righteousness” in American culture, Cruz said the church should have “an influence upon every area of society.”

“Indeed we should have an influence upon arts and entertainment, upon media, upon sports, upon education, upon business, upon government,” he continued.

Later, while criticizing the “lies” of the Obama administration, Cruz delivered a crowd-pleaser: “Stop electing the village idiot!

Rick Perry's Comparison Of Homosexuality To Alcoholism Is Nothing New From The Anti-Gay Right

Surprise! Yesterday, the same Republican politician who tried to save his foundering presidential campaign with a gay-baiting TV ad defended ex-gay therapy and compared homosexuality to alcohol abuse.

Speaking at a summit in California, Texas Gov. Rick Perry responded to questions about the Texas Republican Party’s endorsement of ex-gay therapy in its new far-right platform by arguing that homosexuality is like alcoholism: “Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that. I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.”

Perry is far from the only Republican figure to have expressed this view.

Another former GOP presidential candidate who is also considering a second run, Gov. Mike Huckabee, likened homosexuality to alcoholism in a 2009 interview with Esquire:

Huckabee says he doesn't know if homosexuality is inborn, but he believes you can control the behavior. He compares homosexuality to obesity or alcoholism: "Some people have a predisposition to alcoholism. Does that mean they're not responsible for getting drunk? No."

Fellow 2012 presidential contender Rick Santorum cited “people who were gay and lived a gay lifestyle and aren’t anymore” as a reason to oppose gay rights. Michele Bachmann’s husband heads a clinic that practices ex-gay therapy. Ted Cruz’s father and political adviser, Rafael Cruz, has defended ex-gay therapy as legitimate “biblical” counseling, adding, “sexual orientation is a choice, it’s not a civil right.”

Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema recently got in trouble with his own party after he, among other offensive remarks, compared gay people to alcoholics. So did top Religious Right leaders Mat Staver and Tony Perkins. Robert Jeffress, a Texas pastor close to Perry, also “equates being gay with alcoholism or a genetic proclivity toward violence,” according to the Dallas-based D Magazine.

Despite story after story about the GOP’s purported shift on gay rights, the party is still mired in anti-gay bigotry.

God Has Instructed Rafael Cruz To Mobilize Pastors To Vote

Rafael Cruz was the guest on James Robison's "Life Today" broadcast recently where he revealed that God told him that it was his mission to mobilize pastors to get involved in politics in order to save America and, to do so, God has been setting up opportunities for him to speak to groups of pastors all over the country ahead of the midterm elections.

"Without my moving a finger," Cruz revealed, "miraculously, God began to set up pastor conferences all over this country. Last year I did 11 pastor conferences; this year I'll probably do at least 30."

"The word of God tells us: When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; when the wicked rule people mourn," he continued. "And there has been a lot of mourning in America in the last five years."

But Cruz is optimistic that he and the Religious Right will be able to "mobilize millions of Christians" just as they did in 1980 and "restore righteousness and the Word of God to this country":

Rafael Cruz Blames End Of School-Sponsored Prayer For Crime, Teen Pregnancy

Rafael Cruz, the father of Sen. Ted Cruz, spoke at yesterday’s Family Research Council Watchmen on the Wall conference, where he made the case for the conservative pastors in the audience to throw themselves into politics.

Cruz argued that the First Amendment “in no way, shape or form” prevents “the church from having an influence on every area of society, as we should.”

“The church should be influencing the media, should be influencing arts and entertainment, sports, education, business and, yes, government,” he added, just so happening to list five of the seven pillars of Seven Mountains Dominionism.

To illustrate this, Cruz listed various instances where he claims the “church remained silent”: the 1963 ruling eliminating government-sponsored prayer in schools, because of which, he claimed, “teen pregnancy skyrocketed and violent crime skyrocketed”; Roe v. Wade; and the Supreme Court’s decision striking down part of the Defense of Marriage Act, which he said led to the “erosion of the traditional family.”

“The question is, how long are we going to remain silent?” he said. “But the more important question is, will God hold us accountable for our silence?”

Rafael Cruz Claims Obama 'Destroyed The Greatness of America,' Wants To Keep People Poor So He Can 'Buy Their Votes'

In an interview with Ginni Thomas posted on the Daily Caller this weekend, Rafael Cruz claimed that President Obama will be remembered as “the worst president” in history and “the man who destroyed the greatness of America.”

Cruz, the father of Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, told Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, that Obama wants to keep Americans in poverty. “The administration is not concerned about lifting anybody out of poverty," he said. "They want them to continue in dependency so they can buy their votes.”

When Thomas asked Cruz what he thought Obama’s legacy would be, Cruz responded, “I think that he will take Carter’s place as the worst president ever in the United States of America, the man who destroyed the greatness of America.”

“We have a president that does not understand American exceptionalism, does not care about it, and as a matter of fact tries to apologize for it and makes us think that we are no better than any other country,” he claimed.

Rafael Cruz: Obama Promoting 'Social Justice' In Order To Create 'Vast, Dependent Society'

In a radio interview yesterday, Rafael Cruz accused President Obama of promoting the concepts of “hyphenated Americans” and “social justice” in order to “create a vast, dependent society” and establish a “permanent voting base.”

Boston radio host and Washington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner asked Cruz, the father of Sen. Ted Cruz and a Cuban immigrant, if he thought that immigrants today are different from those when he came to the country because they “hang on to their ethnic identity” and “don’t seem to be as grateful or as appreciative of all the benefits and opportunities and freedoms that we have here.”

Cruz agreed with Kuhner’s assessment, and blamed the supposed ingratitude of immigrants on the Obama administration and its commitment to “social justice.”

“One of the things that this administration has been doing is look at each one of those so-called groups as the victims of society and pushing them into a dependent status so that they can keep them under their thumb,” he said. “The whole concept is if they can create a vast, dependent society upon government, then they feel they have a permanent voting base to maintain them in power. “

Kuhner: When you look at America today, 2014, to when you came to the United States, how do we treat immigrants differently in terms of assimilating them? Because I listen to you and I hear a red-blooded American. I look at many immigrants who come today, and they hang on to their ethnic identity. They’re hyphenated Americans, they talk multiculturalism, they don’t seem to be as grateful or as appreciative of all the benefits and opportunities and freedoms that we have here. Have you seen a change in your lifetime over how immigrants are assimilated into the melting pot when you came and the immigrant experience today?

Cruz: Well, obviously there’s a change, but we have to realize where the change comes from. The change, it is a program change. This administration wants to promote the concept of ‘hyphenated Americans.’ This administration is bent on what they call ‘social justice.’ Now we need to define the terms. The term ‘social justice’ sounds very good, but basically, social justice is collectivism. It is the rights of the group, and it denies individual responsibility. So this whole concept of looking at all these different hyphenated groups, whether it is, and even any other groups, they even consider women as a separate group. So it is a divide and conquer concept.

And one of the things that this administration has been doing is look at each one of those so-called groups as the victims of society and pushing them into a dependent status so that they can keep them under their thumb. The whole concept is if they can create a vast, dependent society upon government, then they feel they have a permanent voting base to maintain them in power.

And I think we don’t need to be talking about hyphenated Americans, because we are all Americans and we all want the same thing.

Rafael Cruz Falsely Claims San Antonio Banned Pastors From Preaching From The Bible

Speaking on a Tea Party Unity conference call last week, Rafael Cruz said that pastors in San Antonio can be fined for preaching from the Bible, a patently false claim but part of a larger Religious Right smear campaign against the city’s non-discrimination ordinance [PDF].

The ordinance added sexual orientation and gender identity to an existing city policy prohibiting discrimination, a move opposed by many Republicans, including Rafael Cruz’s son, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. The debate over the recently passed ordinance featured several over-the-top reactions, including a rant from a city councilwoman who called homosexuality “disgusting.”

While speaking on the call with extremist pastor and TPU founder Rick Scarborough, who introduced Ted Cruz at the 2012 Values Voter Summit, the elder Cruz claimed that pastors who preach Romans 1 — which some pastors interpret as a condemnation of homosexuality — can be fined $500 a day, a claim with no basis in reality.

“All we have to do is turn on the news and every day we see more and more encroachment upon pastors from this administration,” Cruz said. “All they have to do is be aware of what’s happening around us and to be aware, for example, that in the city of San Antonio, if a pastor speaks on Romans 1, he could be even fined $500 a day until he retracts what he said.”

Scarborough went on to warn that the “lesbian mayor of Houston” will impose a similar “sanctions [on pastors] if they preach the Bible.”

Cruz also suggested in the conference call that “wicked” people are currently in charge of the government: “We’ve stayed at home and we allowed the wicked to elect wicked politicians to rule us. We get what we deserve, Rick. We need to get up the charge that God is giving us and move to the forefront and call this nation to repentance and call this nation to righteousness.”

Cruz has previously alleged that Satan controls the US government.

Rafael Cruz Defends Ex-Gay Therapy: 'Sexual Orientation Is A Choice'

Ted Cruz’s dad and top political surrogate Rafael Cruz recently addressed the National Religious Broadcasters convention, where he took part in a February 25 panel discussion with Religious Right activists Jay Sekulow, Todd Starnes and Craig and Janet Parshall.

During the discussion, Cruz defended businesses engaging in anti-gay discrimination and harmful and discredited forms of ex-gay “therapy” for minors which were recently restricted in California and New Jersey. New Jersey’s law was signed by Republican Gov. Chris Christie, a possible 2016 presidential rival to the younger Cruz.

“Sexual orientation is a choice, it’s not a civil right,” Cruz said while discussing cases of anti-gay discrimination in business. “The left is trying to redefine the issue as a civil right, not as a personal choice. They have gone to the extent to even try to make it illegal for counselors to administer to these people that have certain sexual tendencies to try to work with them from the Christian, biblical standpoint.”

Cruz later added that he opposes gay rights — which he believes are part of a Communist plot and lead to child abuse — because he loves gay people and does not want to “prostitute the Gospel.”

Rafael Cruz: Obama Wants to 'Take Our God And Our Guns' To 'Impose A Dictatorship Upon Us'

In a 2012 campaign speech for his son, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Rafael Cruz warned that President Obama was pushing for gun violence prevention laws in order to “impose a dictatorship upon us.”

“They are trying to take our God and our guns,” he said in the speech, which was uploaded to YouTube in July 2012. “And if they do that, then they can impose a dictatorship upon us.”

Cruz also pushed the conspiracy theory that the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty would “impose a ban on guns.”

Rafael Cruz Is Now Just Repeating David Barton's Pseudo-History

Recently, Rafael Cruz spoke to the Allen Area Patriots, a Tea Party group in Texas, where he informed those gathered "about the Liberal Progressive's move to socialize America, and what we can do about it."

While watching Cruz's remarks, we were struck by fact that he has essentially become a second-rate version of David Barton, so much so that he is now just repeating Barton's pseudo-history as part of his stump speech, claiming that the Declaration of Independence is nothing more than a collection of sermons and that over half of the Founding Fathers held "seminary degrees."

Both of these claims come straight from Barton, as we demonstrate in this video featuring Cruz's claims alongside excerpts from Barton's standard presentation in which he makes the same assertions:

Rafael Cruz: Gays Stole The Word 'Gay,' Are 'Potential Sexual Predators'

In yet another anti-gay rant posted on YouTube last year, Ted Cruz’s father and chief surrogate Rafael argued that it is inaccurate to call gay people “gay.” After arguing that abortion rights supporters should not be called “pro-choice” but rather “pro-death” and “pro-murder,” Cruz explained that “it’s just like calling homosexuals ‘gays.’ ‘Gay’ means happy, they try to dilute it so that it becomes socially acceptable.”

Cruz told a gathering of the Tea Party-aligned group Grassroots America We The People that gay rights advocates want conservatives to “prostitute our principles on behalf of tolerance” and vowed to never support marriage equality. “Start being biblically correct instead of politically correct,” he said.

In a speech at a Baptist church in Irving, Texas in June, Cruz went into detail about his claims that gay people are a threat to children and suggested that gays will join the Boy Scouts of America to sexually assault children.

“I was a Boy Scout, most of the times when you went out camping the tents were tents for two kids, I certainly don’t want my child with a potential sexual predator sleeping next to him,” he said.

He said Christians should have been more “militant” in order to prevent the Boy Scouts from including openly gay scouts and criticized the Southern Baptists for not breaking off ties with the BSA completely.

Rafael Cruz Tries To Disprove Evolution, Suggests Obama Thinks He Is God

Yesterday, we posted clips of Sen. Ted Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz attacking evolution and warning of Satanic control of America. Now, a reader has alerted us to a speech the elder Cruz gave to a Republican gathering in Texas in March, in which he claimed that he could disprove evolution to the “brainwashed” students in attendance.

After making his usual claim that evolution and gay rights are communist plots, Cruz warned, “We are being brainwashed by the school system and you’re called a ‘retrograde,’ you’re called an ‘idiot’ if you fight evolution. Evolution is not a fact, there is nothing factual about evolution.”

Let me just say something for you kids, evolution is based on jumping from one species to another through mutations. How many of you had biology in high school? Mutations normally go in reverse order, they go backwards, when something mutates it mutates into something worse than it was before. So if evolution moves from species to species by mutation, you’re going backwards, not forwards, it doesn’t make sense. It takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe in the first two chapters of Genesis. Understand, it is a tool to destroy loyalty to God.

Later in the address, Cruz alleged that President Obama wants people to worship him. “Obama needs for you to see him as God,” Cruz said. “The concept is make government your god. It’s done by evolution, it’s done by destroying the concept of religion and God, and secondly by destroying the family.”

“That’s what this whole thing about homosexual marriage is about,” he added. “It has nothing to do with ‘homosexual rights,’ It has to do with the destruction of the traditional family so that there is no loyalty to the family, loyalty is to the government and government is your god.”

Rafael Cruz: Satan Controls US Government

After denouncing evolution and gay rights as Marxist lies, Rafael Cruz told a Texas Christian men’s group in June that Satan controls the US government. While quoting Second Great Awakening evangelist Charles Grandison Finney, he said that the US has fallen into a state of moral decline.

“‘If the world loses its interest in religion,’ does that sound like today?” Cruz said, “‘If Satan rules in the hall of legislation,’ man this sounds like he’s talking about right now.’”

Rafael Cruz: Evolution Is A Communist Lie, Gay Rights Endanger Children

Rafael Cruz, the father of Ted Cruz and the Texas Senator’s number one surrogate, is a favorite among Tea Party and Religious Right activists with his birther, Christian Nationalist and End Times-focused speeches.
