At a conference which literally banned a gay group from participating, blogger Crystal Wright during CPAC’s panel on women’s issues called on right-wing activists to “come out of the closet” as conservatives and fight the liberal elites.
Following Wright’s bold declaration, author Kate Obenshain said that the entire education system, “pre-school all the way to college to post-graduate work,” is one big “liberal indoctrination camp” that convinces women to reject marriage in order to go about life “determined to find evidence of... At CPAC today, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) argued that climate change is a myth and doesn’t need to be addressed, noting that President Obama was cold during the inauguration.
“He talked about global warming at his inauguration, I found it ironic that the President was wearing a trench coat it was so cold but he’s talking about global warming,” Scalise said.
He also noted that a snow storm later cancelled a congressional hearing on climate change, “you can’t make this stuff up.”
Of course, climate change is actually leading to more incidences of... MORE >

Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA) warned today at CPAC that America has started to “reject the sanctity of life” and the “rights set forth in the Constitution.” Speaking during a panel focused on undermining reproductive rights, Forbes warned that we are “dangerously close as a nation to rejecting the God that gave us that life” and who “gave us those rights.”

The NRA's Wayne LaPierre spoke at CPAC today, where he was introduced by a video full of clips of people in the media calling him a radical lunatic before launching into a speech where he repeatedly called everyone else crazy for thinking that his positions and views are crazy.
And he proved how reasonable he is by saying that any effort to create a database of gun owners would either be hacked by the Chinese government, handed over to Mexican government, or used by the American government to confiscate them:

At the sparsely attended panel on liberal bullying, we learned that anti-gay activists, conservative “journalists,” supporters of laws combating mythical voter fraud and the Koch Brothers are the victims of unfair attacks. Ben Shapiro of Breitbart News, sitting alongside Brian Brown, Hans von Spakovsky and Cleta Mitchell, went through his usual talking points about how conservatives are too nice to their left-wing bullies. He said that the progressives are “keeping millions of children in poverty” and “are trying to impoverish the country” while at the same... MORE >

The new "The Bible" miniseries is so important that God was present on the set. Ken Cuccinelli will not sign Americans for Tax Reform's pledge not to raise taxes. This might be the lamest contest we've ever seen. Saying that "adoption in families headed, like Chief [Justice John] Roberts' family is, by a heterosexual couple, is by far the second-best option" is probably not a good way to win support for NOM's anti-marriage equality position. Finally, Bryan Fischer and Cliff Kincaid discuss the "homosexual infiltration of CPAC": MORE >

Anti-Islam activist Robert Spencer was supposed to receive the "People's Choice Blog Award" at CPAC this year for his efforts at Jihad Watch, but the whole thing fell apart when Spencer refused a request not to attack Grover Norquist or Suhail Khan for being Muslim Brotherhood facilitators at the ceremony.
Today, Spencer appeared on Bryan Fischer's radio program where, just like his colleague Pamela Geller, he proclaimed that the fact that anti-Islam activists are unwelcome at the event is evidence that Norquist and Kahn have managed to turn CPAC into a "sharia-... MORE >

Last year we wrote about how CPAC allowed notorious white nationalists to speak on multiple panels but banned the gay conservative group GOProud. This year the CPAC organizers, who aren’t entirely oblivious to the 2012 election, are trying to emphasize diversity. There’s even a panel entitled, “Conservative Inclusion: Promoting the Freedom Message to all Americans,” which boasts a racially diverse lineup of conservative activists.
“Conservative inclusion” is a nice idea, but it doesn’t go very far at CPAC. For the second year in a row, the gay... MORE >
