In comments captured by Americans United for Change at CPAC last week, Rep. Steve King praised Sen. Chuck Grassley’s stance that the Senate should not even consider any jurist nominated by President Obama to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. While Grassley, the Iowa Republican who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has insisted that he is blocking a Supreme Court appointment because he’s abiding by a (nonexistent) tradition that the Senate doesn't confirm justices during an election year, King seemed to give away the game and admit that Senate Republicans are engaging... Last week at CPAC, Ted Cruz continued to baselessly assert that the Supreme Court is on the verge of crushing all freedom in America. “We are one liberal justice away from the Supreme Court ruling that government can take our religious liberty away and force every one of us to violate our faith on penalty of prison or fine,” Cruz said. “We are one liberal justice away from the Supreme Court ordering Ten Commandments monuments torn down all over this country. We are one liberal justice away from the Supreme Court erasing the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights.” He... MORE >

When right-wing radio host and commentator Gina Loudon spoke at CPAC on Saturday, she revealed that she has dedicated her life to fighting for conservative principles so that she'll be able to tell her children that she did all she could to save this nation when they are all locked up in a gulag 20 years from now. Loudon explained how she became especially motivated after meeting Kitty Werthmann, a woman who survived Nazi rule in Austria as a child and then became a right-wing hero in America by warning that President Obama was following Adolf Hitler's path. "After I met... MORE >

Back in 2012, Dinesh D'Souza released a "documentary" claiming that President Obama held "Third World anti-American" views and was working to systematically weaken and undermine this nation. Two years later, D'Souza pled guilty to using straw donors to make illegal campaign contributions and was sentenced to eight months in a confinement center and five years of probation. Those two events are unrelated — D'Souza admitted to making the illegal donations — but he is convinced that he was specifically targeted and persecuted by the Obama... MORE >
'I'm A Gas Balloon Balloonist': Does Gary Johnson Think His Athletic Exploits Are Qualifications To Be President?

Rick Santorum, Sen. Ben Sasse and former Gov. Gary Johnson were all scheduled to speak at CPAC this morning about their respective approaches to conservatism. While Sasse and Santorum used their time to do exactly that, Johnson decided to use the opportunity to plug his campaign to be the Libertarian Party's presidential nominee and did so by regaling the audience with a list of his athletic exploits. "I'm a competitive athlete," Johnson said. "I've done hundreds of athletic competitions. I still compete is skiing, mountain biking and road biking competitions... MORE >

It has long been a point of pride for Glenn Beck that he was never invited back to CPAC following his 2010 speech at the conservative conference in which he railed against the GOP for supposedly allowing itself to become infested with "progressives" who are destroying the party, the Constitution and the country. After a six year hiatus, Beck will be returning to CPAC this weekend where he is scheduled to deliver the final speech of the conference and he is promising that it'll be a "barn burner" that will probably get him banned from CPAC for life. "I would just... MORE >

Speaking at the white nationalist American Renaissance conference last month in Tennessee, conservative author and onetime CPAC speaker Peter Brimelow argued that instead of promoting unity, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day “has just turned into anti-white indoctrination.” Unless “cultural Marxists” who are behind “political correctness” and “the war on Christmas” are resisted, Brimelow contends, the U.S. will collapse. “Whites have rights,” demanded Brimelow as he advocated for the secession of Texas from a failing U.S.... Last month, the white nationalist group American Renaissance held its annual conference in Tennessee, bringing together fringe racist figures like AmRen’s Jared Taylor, the National Policy Institute’s Richard Spencer, and former Klan attorney Sam Dickson with activists who have ties with more mainstream conservative movements, including former National Review columnist John Derbyshire and onetime CPAC speaker Peter Brimelow. American Renaissance is tied to the leadership of ProEnglish, a regular sponsor of groups such as CPAC. The event included a debate about whether... MORE >
