The Texas State Board of Education approved several dozen social studies textbooks after a contentious battle over their treatment of subjects including climate change, the role of slavery in the Civil War, Islam, and biblical influence in America’s founding. One major publisher, however, withdrew a book from consideration, saying that it was unable to meet all the standards set by the school board. The Texas Freedom Network, which live-blogged today’s vote, said that much problematic material had been removed from the proposed textbooks, including climate denial and “... MORE >

Anti-Muslim activist Brigitte Gabriel told Newsmax host Dennis Michael Lynch last week that there is “no chance” of American Muslims ever “blending in” with U.S. society. In an interview on Friday, Lynch told Gabriel that he had recently traveled to Dearborn, Michigan, and “did not see all but maybe one or two homes with an American flag waving outside” and at one point stopped to ask for directions and was ignored. “Why is it that the Muslim community is not blending in with the rest of American society?” he asked. “Because this is... ACT for America, the anti-Muslim group run by Brigitte Gabriel, held a legislative briefing on Capitol Hill today where it was joined by Republican members of Congress including Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan, Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, and Arkansas Sen. John Boozman. Gabriel posted pictures on Facebook and Twitter of Boozman, Bachmann and Gohmert speaking and of Roskam receiving the group’s “Patriot Award.” Duncan tweeted that he was planning on speaking to the gathering. Gabriel wrote that she had planned on... MORE >

Brigitte Gabriel has a theory about why the Empire State Building was lit up in green in July in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the holiday that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan: "as a security counter-measure to cause terrorists to not consider it for an attack." Empire State Building will light up green for Muslim holiday Eid-al-Fitr but has rejected childhood cancer lighting. http://t.co/zHevxYx18n — Brigitte Gabriel (@act4america) August 19, 2014 More people have had cancer than there are Muslims in the US. It makes you wonder if, as one of New York'... MORE >

Anti-Muslim groups have long been convinced that campus Muslim Student Associations have radical, sinister intentions…although at least one recent effort to find evidence of this came up comically short. Now, Brigitte Gabriel of ACT! for America is hoping to fight Muslim Student Associations by launching campus chapters of her own group to serve as a “counterweight” to MSAs. In a fundraising email today, Gabriel asks for money for scholarships to help college students come to her group’s annual conference and prepare them “to launch an ACT for America chapter at... Earlier this week, a media firestorm erupted around a Heritage Foundation panel about the 2012 Benghazi attack, which featured a number of anti-Muslim activists including ACT! for America’s Brigitte Gabriel and Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy. Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank attended the event, and wrote about an ugly exchange in which a Muslim woman in the audience asked a question about Muslim representation at the event, and was met with a tirade from Gabriel, who told her that the “peaceful majority” of Muslims was “irrelevant,” made... Need more proof that right-wing activists will keep pushing their conspiracy theories even after they have been thoroughly and decisively debunked? Take the case of the recent announcement that the federal government will relinquish oversight of the Internet to a US-backed nonprofit, which has prompted conservatives to claim that the United Nations, China, and Islamic governments will now seize control of the Internet. As it turns out, the transition has been in the making for 16 years and actually stifles attempts to increase the authority of the UN-led International Telecommunication Union... MORE >
