Earlier today, former Rep. Todd Akin told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he identified with the late communist-hunting Sen. Joseph McCarthy as someone who was also “assassinated by the media.”
Akin apparently liked his new talking point because he repeated it this afternoon in an interview on the “Steve Malzberg Show.”
Akin told Malzberg that like himself, McCarthy — whom he accidentally called “Tom McCarthy” — was “assassinated” by a biased media even though “everything he said was true except understated.”
He added that fellow members of the GOP turned on him after he made his infamous “legitimate rape” comments because “they were afraid of a media that could target and assassinate somebody by misinterpreting what they’d said.”
“And they were also afraid that what they’d do is to use me the way they’d done to Tom McCarthy years and years ago, who was absolutely right in everything he said, but they said this guy was some sort of anti-communist nut and all this sort of stuff,” he said.
Malzberg proudly told Akin that his show covers the “horrific reality” of media bias “better than anyone else in America.”
