Kelli Ward Advocates ‘Exporting Free-Market Capitalism’ to Stop Migrant Caravans

U.S. Senate candidate Kelli Ward appeared on Fox News Channel's "America's Newsroom" on August 17, 2018

Two-time Arizona Senate candidate and current chair of the Arizona Republican Party Kelli Ward told Breitbart radio listeners that a solution to immigration issues at the U.S.-Mexico border posed by asylum-seeking migrants should involve “exporting free-market capitalism” to countries from which migrants are fleeing.

Ward joined SirusXM’s “Breitbart News Tonight” on April 19 to talk about immigration and to argue in favor of President Trump’s promised southern border wall. The show’s host cited an article in the Daily Caller that says asylum-seeking migrants are traveling to the U.S. because they know that the U.S. will help them escape violence and poverty. Ward proposed that instead of admitting those migrants into the United States, we should instead intervene in other countries and institute American-style capitalism so that people don’t feel they need to flee.

“Who wouldn’t want to come to America? This is the greatest country on Earth. We were divinely inspired and we are very charitable, compassionate, loving people here in our country. But everyone also knows that every person fleeing poverty, every person fleeing violence, every person fleeing war, we do not have the capacity to take care of them in the United States,” Ward said. “We have so many resources. We should be teaching people how to better themselves where they live, and that goes through capitalism, not through socialism.”

She continued, “We’ve got people here that want to be socialists. We should be exporting free-market capitalism around the world, especially to these impoverished countries where people are willing to risk everything, and risk their children, and risk their life to be able to get here. We need to be able to help them have something similar to what we have here in our great country where they live already.”
