The Southern Baptist Convention’s Robert Jeffress, a prominent endorser of Gov. Rick Perry, said in an interview with Janet Mefferd yesterday that the Social Security crisis, the Medicare crisis and the mounting federal deficit are “God’s judgment” for legalized abortion. Citing a study by the fringe anti-choice group Movement for a Better America, Jeffress claims that legalized abortion is responsible for $35 trillion in lost GDP over the last 35 years. Listen: Jeffress: Since Roe v. Wade, we’ve had 40 million babies aborted, murdered. Do you realize that if... MORE

Family Research Council senior fellow Peter Sprigg appeared today on The Matt Friedeman Show on the American Family Association’s American Family Radio to discuss the budding controversy over the right-wing “charity” service CGBG. The progressive groups AllOut.org and Change.org have persuaded over 200 retailers to leave the CGBG, a for-profit group that allows customers to shop at companies online and direct part of their proceeds to right-wing organizations like FRC and Focus on the Family – success that, unsurprisingly, has got the Religious Right up in arms. It... MORE

When Gov. Rick Perry took to the stage at his prayer rally last weekend, he brought with him two close friends: C.L Jackson and Alice Patterson, whom he publicly praised and thanked: Patterson, as you may recall, is deeply involved in the New Apostloic Reformation where she focuses on "racial healing" in order to get African Americans to leave the Democratic Party, which she believes is literally controlled by demonic spirits. As it turns out, not only is the Democratic Party controlled by such spirits, but the Republican Party is as well. But whereas the Democrats are... MORE

After warning that marriage equality in New York will hasten the coming of the Antichrist, Renew America’s Michael Bresciani claims that Satan is behind the LGBT-rights movement and using demons to spread lies that will turn people away from God. “In our world most of those spreading the gay lie are liberals, activists, spineless academicians, Hollywood sellouts, and now we can throw in a president and a large contingent of fully duped politicians,” Bresciani writes, adding, “There is little doubt that the entire gay and lesbian community is guided by a powerful demon... Last week Bryan Fischer announced his support for laws banning profanity and blasphemy and followed that up over the weekend with a Tweet calling for laws banning fornication and adultery: And this got me thinking about what life in America would look like if Bryan Fischer got his way: Muslims would be banned from serving in the armed forces. Muslims would be banned from immigrating to the United States. Muslims citizens would be charged with treason and deported. Muslims would be banned from building mosques. Muslims would be denied all First Amendment protections.... MORE

Friday’s Washington Post features a story about a battle within the conservative movement. Hard-right figures like Sen. Tom Coburn and Grover “drown the government in the bathtub” Norquist are fighting among themselves about which is more important: reducing the deficit or sticking to Norquist’s “no new taxes” pledge, which many Republicans have signed in recent years. The same question played out at last weekend’s “Awakening” conference, sponsored by the Freedom Federation at Liberty University. In a Saturday panel... MORE
