Conservative Catholic Group Ties Illinois Tornadoes To Gay Marriage

America Needs Fatima, a project of the right-wing American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, is linking the tornadoes that hit Illinois this weekend to the state’s recent approval of a marriage equality bill. Robert Ritchie, the group’s executive director, is just asking the question:

Fischer: Mary Cheney Is An 'Intolerant Lesbian Bigot'

Back when Liz Cheney announced her intention to challenge Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi in the Republican primary, Bryan Fischer declared that Cheney was not a patriot because she was insufficiently anti-gay and had, in fact, been compromised because her sister Mary is a lesbian.

But now that Mary and Liz are publicly feuding over Liz's opposition to marriage equality, Fischer has come rushing to her defense, declaring that Liz is the paragon of Christian tolerance while Mary is an "intolerant lesbian bigot."

"It's very clear here that Liz Cheney is not the intolerant bigot," Fischer said, "it is Liz Cheney's sister who is, in fact, the intolerant bigot."

Lively: Gay People Behind Anti-Gay Violence In Russia

While Russia is experiencing an increase in violence directed at gay people and enacting new laws criminalizing pro-gay speech, US Religious Right activists Scott Lively and Linda Harvey are simply denying the prevalence of anti-gay violence. In fact, Lively is blaming other gay people for the uptick in hates crimes.

On her Saturday “Mission America” radio show, Harvey said that anti-gay violence in Russia has nothing to do with the country’s anti-gay laws, while Lively explained that actually the only violence occurring is “gay-on-gay crime.”

“Russia does have nationalists, these are Nazis, the same as I wrote in the book ‘The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality and the Nazi Party,’ that’s the same thing,” Lively said. “The guys that are beating up gays in Russia—and it’s not any more prevalent than it ever has been really and it isn’t all that prevalent at all—but the ones that are doing it are butch homosexuals who are beating up effeminate homosexuals, the same thing that happened in Germany; this is gay-on-gay crime, at least that is what it appears to be.”

Lively believes that gay people controlled Nazi Germany and launched the Holocaust in order to take revenge on Jews for viewing homosexuality as a sin.

Much like in “The Pink Swastika,” Lively offers no credible evidence to back up his claims that gays in Russia are facing violence from other gay people…other than his belief that anyone who is a Nazi must be gay.

Lively also said that he met with Russian Orthodox Church’s leadership to “pitch the idea of the Russians adopting the rainbow as a Russian symbol, a Christian symbol, reclaiming the rainbow and to do the Russian Olympics under the banner of the rainbow that says ‘the rainbow belongs to God.’”

“It looks like they are going to do that,” Lively continued. “Get all the pro-family organizations to come along to declare 2014 ‘The Year of God’s Rainbow’ and all of us adopt it—I’m wearing a pin right now that says ‘Reclaim The Rainbow: Ezekiel 1:28’—I think all of us should just start taking the rainbow, putting it on our webpages, wearing it and just take it away from them, it doesn’t belong to them.”

“Fabulous, fabulous, neither does the word gay,” Harvey added.

Lively said that while the “United States is becoming a gay Soviet Union” and “collapsing into totalitarianism with a heavy gay emphasis,” Russia is emerging as a great Christian country thanks to their laws suppressing gay rights.

“I’m taking some credit for this,” he said while describing his record of anti-gay activism in Russia.

Swanson: ENDA Will Lead To Child Abuse

Pastor Kevin Swanson mourned the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in the US Senate by suggesting that it will lead to child abuse if the bill ever becomes law. He said parents will have to send kids to “sodomite schools [with] the Greek form of education where you know what happens in homosexual indoctrination.”

Later, co-host and pastor Dave Buehner added that America is now just “one small step towards putting the convicted pedophiles in charge of the daycare.”

Swanson: Friends, we’re getting to the point here where it may be a few family businesses and homeschools that would be able to keep homosexuals and homosexual indoctrination away from their children. Who knows? It may become extremely difficult to get your children out of sodomite schools or the Greek form of education where you know what happens in homosexual indoctrination. It may become more difficult for people to keep their kids away from this unless they’re able to homeschool their children and keep them out of schools where homosexual indoctrination and homosexual forms of laboratories are mandated in private and public schools in America.



Buehner: What’s shocking about this is this is just one small step away from, it’s a giant step towards and one small step towards putting the convicted pedophiles in charge of the daycare. That’s where we’re at.

Swanson: That’s the goal; that’s the goal.

Religious Right Leaders Defend Russia's Anti-Gay Law

As Miranda reported earlier, House Speaker John Boehner’s office stepped in to provide space to the anti-gay Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society for its symposium on what Americans should learn from other countries when it comes to “family policy.” Sen. Mark Kirk, who had originally sponsored the group for a room, withdrew his support last night saying he doesn’t affiliate with groups that discriminate.

The Howard Center’s Allan Carlson, who described himself as a historian by training, saw fascism at work: “The parallel I see here is what happened in Italy, Germany, other lands in the 1920s and 1930s as fascism began to impose its fear-driven grip on debate, on conversation, and on policy-making.”

Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America boasted about having been a speaker at all but one of the World Congress of Families summits – annual events organized by the Howard Center and attended by conservative religious activists from around the world. Crouse acknowledged that “things don’t look so good” to activists watching the advance of same-sex marriage in Europe and the U.S., and public opinion in many countries shifting to “quote LGBT rights.”  But, she said that’s not the whole story, and praised countries that have outlawed gay marriage and other groups of citizens who are “with the help of God” changing the world.

Crouse is particularly excited about what is happening among opponents of marriage equality in France, which she portrays as a “David v. Goliath” battle of plucky pro-family activists fighting the French government and media. She mentioned activists in Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, and Nigeria. She encouraged the small number of attendees to “take heart” and count on the power of truth and faithfulness.

Austin Ruse, the enthusiastically anti-gay head of the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute, devoted much of his remarks to supporting Russia’s new anti-free-speech and anti-gay propaganda law.  He read from a statement of support from “pro-family groups” defending Russia’s new law. The letter claims that “the Russian law protects the innocence of children and the basic rights of their parents recognized in the international legislation and treaties.”  More from the letter:

With its new law Russia is protecting genuine and universally recognized human rights against artificial and fabricated “values” aggressively imposed in many modern societies….We thus call for respect of the sovereignty of the Russian people and we invite all organizations and people who feel responsible for the protection of the innocence of children and their rights, the natural family and parental rights to stand up for Russia, as well as for Ukraine and Moldova suffering the same pressure due to similar laws.

Ruse, who has been spending time in Russia to prepare for the World Congress of Families 2014 summit, being held in Moscow, said western LGBT rights advocates were guilty of overheated rhetoric and “propaganda” about the status of gays in Russia. He saw gays everywhere in Moscow! They can enjoy themselves “hassle-free” at clubs.  Russians, he said, accept that homosexuality exists, but they believe the political movement to celebrate and regularize it is harmful to children.

Speakers actually seemed envious of Russia in some ways.  Ruse said that with the resurgence of the Russian Orthodox Church, “Christians over there are truly dominant.” In the U.S., though, there is “an increasingly hostile atmosphere toward people with traditional values” and a “vicious totalitarianism that is loose in the land.” And “there’s more trouble coming” with the Employment Non Discrimination Act.  Crouse said American gay-rights activists are “turning into thugs who are destroying freedom of speech, destroying religious liberty.” It’s very “refreshing,” she said, to see that’s not the case in other countries.

Ruse acknowledged that anti-gay violence and thuggery is a problem in Russia. He denounced such violence and said he has urged Russian officials to do more to stop it. But when he was asked whether the conversation about the anti-gay propaganda law and protecting children from gay people might encourage such violence, he said anti-gay violence in Russia has been going on for a long time and didn’t think the new law was to blame. And he said blaming religious conservatives for creating a climate of hate is a tactic of gay-rights groups, a “maneuver to silence people.” 

Carlson said he cuts Russia a lot of slack because the country is “trying to put decent moral society back together” after both Communism and some of the “bad things” – like a “libertine approach to sexuality” – that poured into Russia from the west after the fall of Communism.

'Swallowed By Satan': The Case Of The Demon Discharge

Yesterday, Bryan Fischer brought Joseph Sciambra onto Focal Point to discuss Sciambra’s new book, Swallowed By Satan, which is a tale of his journey out of homosexuality, neo-Nazism, and Satan worship. Like other ex-gay activists, Sciambra offers harrowing accounts of early sexual trauma, drug abuse and risky sexual behaviors, including public sex and flashing men.

While Sciambra says he identified as gay, he also claims he was obsessed with female pornography (describing it as a “succubus”) and regularly frequented female sex workers and brothels. Sciambra explains that he began to sleep with men because “women did not have the physical strength for the type of abuse I needed,” and as a result he fell into Satan’s digestive tract until “my continued presence in his bowel became an irritant [and] I was passed out”:

Satan swallowed me whole. I would spend a decade in his gut. Miraculously, a protective layer prevented my full destruction in the digestive tract of the devil. When my continued presence in his bowel became an irritant, I was passed out onto the street. To be stepped upon and washed away into the gutter.

Much of the book is dedicated to graphic accounts of Sciambra having brutal sex with other men; he claims that he hears different voices, which he seems to think are demonic spirits, that tell him to engage in activities such as sadomasochism and pornography. He even writes about having sex with demonic figures.

In one story, he goes to a club to get “gang-banged” and during sex “conceives” a demon in his anus. After sex, the demon “gushed from my body” in his discharge and “would grow and pitilessly hover about me. Sometimes, it spoke.”

All I could think about were the magical claims by [occultist] Alester Crowley that anal sex unleashed a rare form of demonic spirit. In fact, he taught that these devils would be conceived within the anus during sodomy. I believed this wholeheartedly. I wanted these entities to take me over.... Then, with no warning, a rush of liquid gushed from my body. It was slimy and mixed with blood. I gave birth to the devil I prayed for. In the coming years, it would grow and pitilessly hover about me. Sometimes, it spoke.

He warns readers that he opened himself up to occult practices by innocently using a Ouija board as a child and contends that part of homosexuality is a “pseudo-religion [that is] certainly Satanic.”

The voices in his head told him to “debase” himself through sex in order to get closer to Satan: “[I]n my debasement, I received a congratulatory elevation from the devil. I was doing his work. My pain was only alleviated in evil.”

“I think my further descent into hell started with an occult sex ritual that I engaged in” with “a gay cabal of male witches,” where he had group sex with a man with “the head of a goat or ram.”

“I knew that what I would be drinking upon was the darkness of hell,” Sciambra writes while describing a different account of sadomasochistic group sex. “They had prepared my walking remains for the final immolation. I was on the altar, the knife was raised, and I was ready to go.”

Finally, injured by all the group sex, Sciambra went to the hospital with his mom and he saw demons appear over his hospital bed: “Then, a huge empty space opened up behind the bed’s headboard. An immense open and salivating mouth breathed a stinking and moist heat upon the back of my neck. I was being pulled up and outwards. I heard a voice say, ‘Open-wide.’”

Trewhella: Gay People Are 'Messed Up In The Head' And Need 'To Be Suppressed Through The Force Of Law'

Voice of Christian Youth America’s news show "In Focus" has returned after a summer hiatus, giving host Matt Trewhella another opportunity to attack the gay community. During an October show on the supposed connections between the gay rights movement and pedophilia, Trewhella played the notorious 1961 Boys Beware PSA, which even he thought wasn’t anti-gay enough and actually “sold the foundations” for gay rights by calling homosexuality a “sickness” instead of sin.

“That’s what people used to think about homosexuality,” Trewhella said wistfully. “They still knew it was wrong, they knew it was disgusting, it was a bad thing and you were messed up in the head if you wanted to practice those types of sexual behaviors.”

“It’s the depraved nature of man and that’s why it needs to be suppressed through the force of law, otherwise it proliferates within the culture to the point now where homosexuals who can’t reproduce actually adopt other people’s children to raise them.”

Fischer: Gay Activists Are Trying To 'Desensitize' People To Pedophilia, Just As They Did With Homosexuality

Last week, Bryan Fischer appeared on theDoveTV to promote the bogus AFA claim that the American Psychiatric Association had reclassified pedophilia as a sexual orientation.  During the interview, host Perry Atkinson asserted that it was all part of an effort to desensitize people to the issue of pedophilia in order to normalize it ... just as they did with homosexuality, Fischer responded.

"That's exactly the strategy that homosexual activists pursued with homosexuality," Fischer said. "Talk about homosexuality all the time; don't let people think about the behavior itself because that will turn people off, but just talk about it all the time, get it into ordinary conversation, use that term over and over again because it desensitizes people to it.  If they hear it often enough then, like you're saying, they begin to think of it like something, well that's just a normal part of conversation and then it's not long before they start thinking well, that's a normal behavior, that's a normal sexual orientation. So it's very deliberate on their part to kind of desensitize the American public on this issue":

Fischer: Love Your Gay Child By Telling Them They Are Going Down 'A Road Of Destruction And Death'

After televangelist Pat Robertson gave “advice” to a parent of a gay son, Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association was asked today by a caller what he would do if one of his children came out as gay. Fischer said that he would “love them unconditionally” and would not “toss them out of my life;” however, he would tell them that being gay is a “decision that is self-destructive.”

“I would love them unconditionally; I would appeal to them to make different choices with their sexuality; I would appeal to them not to go down that road because it’s a road of destruction and death but I would love them unconditionally.”

Rios: Report On Gay Waiter Who Received Anti-Gay Message A 'Ruse' To Help ENDA

American Family Association radio host claims that the Overland Park, Kansas, waiter who in lieu of a tip received an anti-gay message from a customer staged the incident to help the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) pass the Senate. Rios offered absolutely no evidence to back up her claim, besides her gut feeling that the story was a “ruse” to aid ENDA, even though the waiter didn’t face discrimination from his employer.

“I smell a rat in this story,” Rios said, later adding: “I don’t believe a Christian couple wrote this note, I think it was a ruse because it was the week ENDA was being voted on.”

Robison: Gay Marriage & Abortion Rights Part Of A 'Furious Flood Of Evil Threatening To Destroy Our Nation'

Back in 1980, televangelist James Robison said he was “sick and tired of hearing about all of the radicals, and the perverts, and the liberals, and the leftists, and the communists coming out of the closet; it’s time for God’s people to come out of the closet, out of the churches and change America.”

In a commentary posted on his blog last week, Robison repeated the refrain: “While so many others are coming out of the closet in defense of their non-biblical practices, it is time for pastors, priests and all true believers to come out of the closet and stand for truth against the flood of evil.”

He said that marriage equality and abortion rights are part of the “the furious flood of evil threatening to destroy our nation,” calling for pasors especially to speak out against President Obama.

The question today is not “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” The correct question is, “Where are the Elijahs of the Lord God?” We must have pastors and priests who will stand as true shepherds with a message that is prophetic and not pathetic in its effect. Freedom is at stake – freedom to worship, to preach biblical truth and witness boldly for Christ. While so many others are coming out of the closet in defense of their non-biblical practices, it is time for pastors, priests and all true believers to come out of the closet and stand for truth against the flood of evil.

In the guise of helping those in need, elected representatives are forcing dependency on the individual and dismissing the personal responsibility to truly love our neighbors. This will only be corrected by a proper response to truth, not by imposing more regulations. The freedom we have been blessed to enjoy and share has never been as fully experienced by any other nation. We are about to lose our independence to dependence on an all-powerful, all-consuming nanny state. Where are the prophets and pastors who will point us to the Good Shepherd, who will lead our nation back to still waters and green pasture?



In our nation over 50 million babies have been aborted in the wombs of their mothers. Even now, national laws are being passed not only to condone same-sex marriage, but to penalize you if you don’t make abortion and early-abortion pills available. It will be funded by the American people through the new healthcare laws forced on Americans in the guise of assistance.

I admire every pastor and priest who is standing up and speaking out. Our close friend Dr. Tony Evans, pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, has joined other courageous pastors and leaders—along with many in the black community—to protest same-sex marriage, which our nation’s leader said he endorses because of the Golden Rule passage found in Matthew 19: “Treat others the way you’d want to be treated.”

Evans responded on National Public Radio after the president made his public statement, “The Bible is clear…Sexual relationships are to be between men and women within the context of marriage. That’s not only related to the issue of homosexuality, but adultery, or fornication or bestiality. All of that is proscribed in the Bible.”

Tony Evans boldly holds up the kingdom of God as the present-day agenda for the church. We are not to compromise that commission for any political party, candidate, or person. This compassionate pastor is a bridge-builder, and at the same time, he’s raising up the dikes necessary to stop the furious flood of evil threatening to destroy our nation.

One church leader commented, “It’s as if political parties and most representatives are either evil or stupid.” The fact is, it’s not merely liberal or conservative; Democrat or Republican; left or right. It has now often boiled down to right or wrong. May God forgive us and raise up prophets, preachers and shepherds today who will take a stand. I am praying for the day when people of faith, along with concerned Americans, will again declare our independence and stand together, united by the principles we all know in our hearts are right and true: “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”

Robertson: Ask Your Gay Son If His Coach Molested Him

Televangelist Pat Robertson today told a parent who asked him how to talk to her gay son “to be understanding,” but also to ask her son if he was molested by his coach. “Is there a biological thing going on or has he been influenced, has a coach molested him?” Robertson asked, a comment based on the anti-gay myth that children are “recruited” into homosexuality.

“They don’t know what they’re doing, they’re teenagers,” Robertson said of gay youth.

Fischer: Ban Homosexuality As 'A Hazard To Human Health'

Today, the FDA announced that it was taking steps toward eventually eliminating the use of trans fats in the United States, saying their use "remains a significant public health concern."

So, of course, Bryan Fischer seized on this announcement to declare that, if they were being consistent, the government would "ban homosexuality [because] it is a hazard to human health":

Harvey: 'Trashy' Gay-Straight Alliances Promote 'Disease'

Ohio-based Religious Right activist Linda Harvey is upset that the Ohio Education Association is helping Gay-Straight Alliance clubs get off the ground, which she warns will lead more students into “sinful deviant behaviors that put young people at great risk of disease and other poor outcomes.”

“They deceive younger students who may be drawn to this behavior,” Harvey claims. “Kids are given misinformation that change is never possible and biblically faithful Christians are their enemies.”

The Mission America president says that thanks to GSA clubs’ “trashy, child endangering values,” kids will grow up into “diseased and despondent” adults:

This is terribly harmful to these children and terribly divisive in the school atmosphere. Where is the OEA going to be ten years down the road when some of these kids are diseased and despondent, having gone down this road with multiple broken relationships and needless heartbreak. We taxpayers are indirectly paying for such trashy, child-endangering values.

Marco Rubio To Headline Anti-Gay Fundraiser

The Florida Family Policy Council announced today that it will host Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at its 2013 Annual Dinner. The FFPC is led by John Stemberger, the anti-gay activist who most recently helped launch a Boy Scouts splinter group that will ban openly gay youth, and the fundraiser will honor Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver.

Stemberger and Staver are far outside of the mainstream, but with Rubio preparing for a possible presidential run in 2016 he may use this event, much like his speech at the Values Voter Summit, to soothe any doubts about his right-wing credentials.

Stemberger previously chaired Florida for Marriage, which spearheaded the campaign to pass a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions, and founded the anti-gay Boy Scout alternative Trail Life USA. Earlier in his career as a lawyer, he was widely criticized for misconduct in the Rifqa Barry case.

Stemberger has a long record of incendiary anti-gay rhetoric. He:

  • Said that people are gay because they think it is “hip” and “cool.”
  • Alleged that affirming LGBT youth is “tantamount to abuse” and “an abuse to that child.”

Mat Staver is the head of the Liberty University School of Law and its legal affiliate, Liberty Counsel, a sponsor of the Values Voter Summit. Liberty Counsel has beenimplicated in the Lisa Miller kidnapping case, where a client kidnapped her daughter and fled to Central America after a court granted custody to her former partner. At a previous Values Voter Summit, Staver claimed that progressives are using LGBT rights and secular government in order to “ultimately implode America” and that the “agenda of the homosexual movement” is to destroy freedom and western civilization. Through his role at Liberty Counsel, Staver has:

Peroutka: ENDA Will Ultimately Force People To Be Gay

Conservative talk show host Steve Deace spent yesterday talking with Michael Peroutka of the Institute on the Constitution, and asked Peroutka what he thought of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which Deace called “the single greatest threat to religious liberty.” After Deace ironically cited the Pilgrims as champions of religious freedom, Peroutka called ENDA an attempt in “federalizing perversion” that is unconstitutional…just like all civil rights laws.

Peroutka is a leader and board member of the white separatist League of the South, so his opposition to civil rights laws come as no surprise.

“Nobody has rights because of the kind of sex they engage in,” Peroutka said, “I would include the so-called civil rights laws are not law, they never should’ve been passed, they’re not law now, they weren’t law then, they aren’t law now because there is no such thing as a civil right.”

Later, Peroutka and Deace talked about the legalization of same-sex marriage in Iowa and its supposed devastating effects on the state.

Peroutka said the gay rights movement’s “full blown agenda” will lead to forced homosexuality: “There is no neutral ground, that’s a lie sold to you just to get you to go along with this particular accommodation or that particular accommodation. There is going to be no place left to stand except, I guess, eventually they are going to force you to engage in the perversion, that’s where this goes.”

The Religious Right Faces String Of Election And Gay Rights Defeats, Blown Narrative

After the 2012 election, right-wing activists immediately declared that Mitt Romney lost because he was not conservative enough and that Republican candidates must run to the right if they want to succeed in general elections.

Last night in the swing state of Virginia, however, two extremely conservative candidates both lost in their statewide bids, the first time since 1977 that a candidate from the party that lost the presidential election failed to win the Virginia gubernatorial race.

Not only did the Religious Right dream team in Virginia lose both races, but so did an Alabama Republican who ran even farther to the right than his conservative opponent. These defeats come at a time that the Senate is set to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) with bipartisan support and two states—Illinois and Hawaii—are poised to legalize same-sex marriage.

Cuccinelli & Jackson Flop In Virginia

Virginia Republicans Ken Cuccinelli and E.W. Jackson, two Religious Right favorites, lose their races for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively. Cuccinelli’s deeply anti-choice and anti-gay record hurt him according to exit polls [PDF]: 50% of voters claimed Cuccinelli was “too conservative” and 61% of voters said they supported abortion rights. During the campaign, Cuccinelli advocated for strict restrictions on abortion clinics and the restoration of unconstitutional sodomy laws, even though some conservative activists complained that he shied away from social issues or wasn’t conservative enough.

Jackson’s attempt to downplay his extremist and bigoted rhetoric and policy positions was even more pathetic to watch, as he insisted that criticisms of his candidacy and quoting him verbatim were unconstitutional and even resorted to lying to deny making remarks that are recorded on tape. Yet, he predicted that “disenfranchised” Christians would lead him to “a stunning victory.”

Don’t expect their defeats to change the Religious Right’s skewed mindset about what it takes to win. Cuccinelli surrogate Jim Bob Duggar, who campaigned throughout the state on a Family Research Council-paid tour, claimed that the “vast majority of people in America are pro-life” and conservative voters represent a “sleeping giant.” Despite having Cuccinelli and Jackson leading the ticket, white evangelical turnout dropped seven points, from 34% to 27% of the electorate, compared to the 2009 gubernatorial race.

The Cuccinelli complain will likely complain that he was abandoned by national Republicans (even though the Republican Governor Association donated $8 million to Cuccinelli) and could have won if the “establishment” offered him more support.

Dean Young Defeated

Dean Young, an ultraconservative birther with strong support from local Tea Party groups, lost to former state lawmaker Bradley Byrne, hardly a moderate himself, in the GOP primary for a special congressional election in Alabama. Young made opposition to gay rights a central part of his campaign: he urged his GOP rivals sign a pledge to oppose gay rights and to attend a church that opposes gay marriage, compared homosexuality to murder and demanded gay Alabamians leave the state.

He is also a senior aide for Roy Moore, the Alabama supreme court justice who refused to obey a court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument that he had installed in the court rotunda and warned that gay rights will destroy America. Moore backed Young’s candidacy, as did Mark Levin, Phyllis Schlafly and Bryan Fischer, who fawned over him in an interview the day before the election, where Young continued to criticize “homosexuals pretending to be married” and warned that gay rights will lead to God’s judgment on America.

Young reportedly refused to call Byrne to concede defeat and announced that he may establish a national organization.

Marriage Equality Poised To Pass In Illinois, Hawaii

Anti-gay groups have consistently cited Illinois as an example that Religious Right has become more successful in fighting marriage equality. But the state legislature approved a marriage equality bill yesterday and the governor is a vocal supporter of legalizing same-sex marriage, which means that Americans For Truth About Homosexuality president Peter LaBarbera will soon live in a state with marriage equality.

With Hawaii also expected to pass a marriage equality bill this week, the success of the two gay rights measures represent big setbacks for Religious Right groups such as the Illinois Family Institute and Hawaii Family Advocates, which both employed ugly smear campaigns against the marriage bills.

Rafael Cruz: Gays Stole The Word 'Gay,' Are 'Potential Sexual Predators'

In yet another anti-gay rant posted on YouTube last year, Ted Cruz’s father and chief surrogate Rafael argued that it is inaccurate to call gay people “gay.” After arguing that abortion rights supporters should not be called “pro-choice” but rather “pro-death” and “pro-murder,” Cruz explained that “it’s just like calling homosexuals ‘gays.’ ‘Gay’ means happy, they try to dilute it so that it becomes socially acceptable.”

Cruz told a gathering of the Tea Party-aligned group Grassroots America We The People that gay rights advocates want conservatives to “prostitute our principles on behalf of tolerance” and vowed to never support marriage equality. “Start being biblically correct instead of politically correct,” he said.

In a speech at a Baptist church in Irving, Texas in June, Cruz went into detail about his claims that gay people are a threat to children and suggested that gays will join the Boy Scouts of America to sexually assault children.

“I was a Boy Scout, most of the times when you went out camping the tents were tents for two kids, I certainly don’t want my child with a potential sexual predator sleeping next to him,” he said.

He said Christians should have been more “militant” in order to prevent the Boy Scouts from including openly gay scouts and criticized the Southern Baptists for not breaking off ties with the BSA completely.

Rafael Cruz Tries To Disprove Evolution, Suggests Obama Thinks He Is God

Yesterday, we posted clips of Sen. Ted Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz attacking evolution and warning of Satanic control of America. Now, a reader has alerted us to a speech the elder Cruz gave to a Republican gathering in Texas in March, in which he claimed that he could disprove evolution to the “brainwashed” students in attendance.

After making his usual claim that evolution and gay rights are communist plots, Cruz warned, “We are being brainwashed by the school system and you’re called a ‘retrograde,’ you’re called an ‘idiot’ if you fight evolution. Evolution is not a fact, there is nothing factual about evolution.”

Let me just say something for you kids, evolution is based on jumping from one species to another through mutations. How many of you had biology in high school? Mutations normally go in reverse order, they go backwards, when something mutates it mutates into something worse than it was before. So if evolution moves from species to species by mutation, you’re going backwards, not forwards, it doesn’t make sense. It takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe in the first two chapters of Genesis. Understand, it is a tool to destroy loyalty to God.

Later in the address, Cruz alleged that President Obama wants people to worship him. “Obama needs for you to see him as God,” Cruz said. “The concept is make government your god. It’s done by evolution, it’s done by destroying the concept of religion and God, and secondly by destroying the family.”

“That’s what this whole thing about homosexual marriage is about,” he added. “It has nothing to do with ‘homosexual rights,’ It has to do with the destruction of the traditional family so that there is no loyalty to the family, loyalty is to the government and government is your god.”

Klingenschmitt & Will Perkins: Gays Want Marriage Rights In Order To Gain Access To Children

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt interviewed Will Perkins, a long-time anti-gay activist in Colorado who was instrumental in the passage of the state's infamous Amendment 2.

During the discussion, Klingenschmitt and Perkins asserted that "homosexuality is not normal" because humanity would die out of everyone were gay. And since gays cannot reproduce, they must seek to recruit the children of heterosexuals.

"And that's why they're so interested in marriage," Perkins said. "For the access to children." 

Klingenschmitt agreed, saying that if gays are allowed to marry "then they would be able to adopt the children of heterosexuals and therefore that increases their ability to recruit."

"That's the main reason" gays want to get married, Perkins asserted. "It isn't for their welfare; it's for their recruitment":

Right-wing talk show host Michael Medved told a CPAC panel sponsored by Focus on the Family today that same-sex marriage has never been banned.
