Scott Lively: John Oliver Is 'A Liar And A Fraud'

Anti-LGBT pastor Scott Lively is not happy with HBO host John Oliver’s recent commentary regarding the crackdown on the gay community in Uganda and Lively’s role in it.

While Lively traveled to Uganda in 2009 to promote anti-LGBT views, he has since tried to distance himself from the country’s new draconian laws, and did not take kindly to Oliver’s suggestion that his lobbying efforts somehow played a role in enacting them.

I’m calling out John Oliver as a liar and a fraud who couldn’t go ten minutes with me in an unscripted, unedited debate. Without his teleprompter and his cheap-shot, out-of-context video clips he would be exposed as just another left-wing loony.

Oliver is lying through selective editing re Rwanda and several other points. His show was one continuous stream of malicious LGBT propaganda in the guise of comedy.

Yes, it will likely negatively affect the voters, as it was intended to do. It’s one more example of the “politics of personal destruction” that Saul Alinsky taught the “progressives,” including journalists, to practice

Lively also wrote in WorldNetDaily today about the need to fight “Marxist elites” before it’s too late:

I believe the Marxist elites are conspiring to legalize “gay marriage” at the Supreme Court as soon as 2015.

Last week a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to strike down the Utah DOMA, making it the first to be ruled upon at the appellate level. The decision was stayed pending trial, which will probably occur late this year or early next year with a final decision coming down in June of 2015.

Utah could be the case Ginsburg and her pals will use to keep their promise to the left, IF they believe they can pull it off without triggering widespread cultural backlash. That IF is our ray of hope.

Now, more than ever, it is important for the pro-family movement to fight back against the “gay” agenda and to firmly reject the elites’ Marxist rhetorical presumption of inevitable victory in “the tide of history.”

Ginsburg revealed the chink in their armor: public resistance! The pro-family movement is already stronger than the pro-life movement was in 1973. Perhaps if we push back hard enough against this latest social engineering scheme we can prevent SCOTUS from cursing us with an LGBT Roe v Wade. Lets [sic] get to work!

Gordon Klingenschmitt's Book Reveals Obama Is Ruled By Gay Demons, 'Worthy Of Death'

Gordon Klingenschmitt, the anti-gay exorcist and preacher who is the Republican nominee for a seat in Colorado’s state legislature, released a book before the 2012 election called “The Demons of Barack H. Obama.”

In the book, Klingenschmitt cites fifty events compiled by right-wing pseudo-historian David Barton which apparently reveal President Obama’s demonic spirits. (Ironically, the “demonic spirits of historical revisionism” are among his many demons.)

According to Klingenschmitt, Obama is ruled by the “demonic sprits” of “death,” “murder,” “child-murder,” “sexual abuse,” “genocide,” “paganism,” “witchcraft,” “homosexual lust” and “anti-Christian oppression”… to name just a few.

Klingenschmitt’s book is set up as a dialogue between a fictional President Obama and two types of spirits, one a demon (which provides “desolation”), and the other the Holy Spirit (which provides “consolation”). It includes colorful (and of course entirely made up) quotes of the various demons supposedly speaking through the president and Hillary Clinton.

In one passage concerning Clinton’s UN speech on LGBT rights, Klingenschmitt claims that Obama and Clinton are both ruled by demons and as a result are worthy of death.

December 2011 – The Obama administration denigrates other countries’ religious beliefs as an obstacle to radical homosexual rights.

Desolation: Demonic spirits of denigration of religious values that oppose homosexual conduct as sin (outside, whispering): “Barack, in your conversation with Hillary Clinton, ensure that you and she directly make speeches which oppose religious values as abnormal, and promote homosexual sin as normal. Then more of your followers will sin, and less will be holy.”

Consolation: Holy Spirit of purity and respect for religious teaching (outside, whispering): “Barack, I want people to be holy and pure with their lives, and that means consecrating their sexuality to God, with self-control and faithfulness to marriage. Encourage Hillary to respect peoples’ religious values, and encourage sexual purity which betters society for children.”

Manifestation: Demonic spirits of denigration (acting through Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton): “We oppose religious values that encourage the freedom enjoyed in sexual purity, because we find sexual purity too oppressive. Instead we promote the demonic oppression caused by homosexual immorality, because we find sin to be liberating, and religion to be despised.”

Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton are ruled, in this instance, by demons of sexual immorality, mockery of religion, and open rebellion against the love that God provides in sexual faithfulness.

Scripture Mr. Obama Violated: “Although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” Romans 1:32, NASB. (emphasis in original)

Linda Harvey Horrified That Soldiers And Scouts Marched In LGBT Pride Parades

On her radio show today, Mission America head Linda Harvey lamented the presence of military service members and Boy Scouts in LGBT pride parades.

The anti-LGBT activist called openly gay service members and scouts an “insult” to their peers, bad role models and most likely child predators.

Is anyone who insists on open homosexual behavior in our military the kind of soldier we need? I don’t think so. And here’s the basic issue: no one needs to be doing this behavior in the first place. It’s an insult to fellow soldiers, and in a Boy Scout situation, it’s an insult to the boys. And yes, open that door and there will be a flood of those interested in having sexual contact with young males. It’s the reality that has existed since the beginning of human history, some people insist on this sin and they insist on it with children. It’s the really selfish adults or clueless ones who would expose kids to danger like this. Friends, if you have a son or daughter in the Scouts, remove them as soon as possible. They’re already hearing about this and learning misinformation. This lifestyle is not how anyone is born and it is certainly not gay.

Klingenschmitt: Jesus Will Overrule The Supreme Court And Toss Gays Into Hell

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Gordon Klingenschmitt, who happens to be a current Republican candidate for office in Colorado, reacted to the recent decision from the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down Utah's ban on gay marriage by declaring that regardless of what the courts on earth rule, Jesus will eventually rule against gay marriage and toss all gays into Hell.

Saying that while the newspapers today are filled with headlines about the spread of gay marriage, eventually gay people will be called before the Great White Throne of Judgment where Jesus will overrule all of the earthly courts that ruled in favor of gay marriage and sentence gays to Hell.

"Jesus as the judge will overrule the Supreme Court," Klingenschmitt said, "and what will he do with these two men? It'll be printed in Heaven's newspaper in a hundred years that God throws them into Hell":

Anti-Gay Archbishop Under Investigation For Sexual Misconduct

John Nienstedt, the Catholic archbishop who championed the failed effort to ban same-sex marriage in Minnesota, is facing a church investigation over allegations of inappropriate sexual relationships with other men, including priests and seminary students.

“I believe that the investigators have received about ten sworn statements alleging sexual impropriety on the part of the archbishop dating from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit, as Bishop of New Ulm, and while coadjutor and archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis,” church whistleblower Jennifer Haselberger told the magazine Commonweal, adding that Nienstedt “also stands accused of retaliating against those who refused his advances or otherwise questioned his conduct.”

Haselberger previously revealed that Neinstedt was failing to properly investigate instances of alleged sexual abuse by priests, including one priest who may have had an “unprofessional relationship” with Neinstedt.

Nienstedt vigorously denied the allegations, and stressed in his statements that none of the claims of sexual misconduct “involve minors.” Last year, he was investigated by local law enforcement for allegedly touching a boy’s buttocks during a confirmation ceremony, but was not charged.

Under Neinstedt, the archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul joined with fellow Minnesota dioceses to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-gay groups, together becoming the largest donor to the unsuccessful campaign pushing a state marriage amendment.

Neinstedt warned Catholics that “there ought not be open dissension” on the issue of marriage equality and urged them to pray against gay rights. According to the Minnesota LGBT site The Column, the archdiocese also “sent out more than 400,000 DVDs that urged voters to vote for candidates that supported putting a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the ballot in 2012.”

During the campaign to ban marriage equality, Neinstedt said Satan is behind gay rights and called homosexuality a “grave evil.”

He has criticized the film Brokeback Mountain as an attack on Jesus Christ that would bring down society and described homosexuality as the “result of psychological trauma” that “must be understood in the context of other human disorders: envy, malice, greed, etc.”

Kevin Swanson Attacks 'Satanic,' 'Antichrist' Presbyterians For Approving Marriage Equality

“Generations Radio” host Kevin Swanson lambasted the Presbyterian Church (USA) last week for voting to allow same-sex marriages to take place in their churches, which Swanson said means the denomination has teamed up with the Antichrist.

“The Presbyterian Church of the United States of America, a purported Christian church, a church that had something of a Christian heritage, but of course now rotten to the very core, has adopted the Neronic agenda and effectively joined the ranks of the Antichrist,” he said, referring to the Roman emperor Nero.

Swanson went on to accuse the church of “marrying dogs” and deciding to become the “Nero Association of America.”

He also worried that the Presbyterian Church in America, a more conservative denomination, may be next in line to adopt the Satanic attack of marriage equality: “I think it’s time to stop watching the PCUSA, I think it is time to start watching the PCA and the Southern Baptists because they’re next, so to speak, that’s where the battleground is moving. If you were Satan you’d go, ‘PCUSA is in the bag, now let’s go pay attention to the PCA and see if we can gain a little ground down here.’”

Lamenting that the United States is becoming an “apostate” nation, Swanson hailed Uganda’s extreme anti-gay laws.

“Praise be to God. He’s got something happening and if he’s going to abandon the West to their homosexuality, their imploding birth rates and their drying up and dying, then that’s the way it goes,” he said. “In Uganda, these guys are standing strong.”

Jesse Lee Peterson Explains That Marriage Can't Be A Partnership Because 'That Term Partner Came From The Homosexuals'

Tea Party activist Jesse Lee Peterson’s group BOND held a conference on “fatherhood and men” in Los Angeles earlier this month, at which Peterson moderated a panel discussion featuring radio host Morris O’Kelly, author and pundit Andrew Klavan, and Dr. Albert Gibbs, a clinical psychologist.

Gibbs seemed to have not known what he was getting into, and spent the entire discussion responding in disbelief to to Peterson’s unhinged questions.

For instance, at one point, Peterson asked Gibbs if a man should “be the head of his wife.” When Gibbs responded that he and his wife are partners in the relationship, Peterson told him that he shouldn’t use that word because “that term partner came from the homosexuals” and that any marriage based on partnership means “the man is weak.”

Bryan Fischer Warns Gay-Friendly Advertising Is 'Gonna Trigger A Blowback From Ordinary Americans'

Today, the Long Beach Press Telegram ran an article looking at the ways in which "companies are coming out of the closet with rainbow ads blazing to court lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender consumers."

As more and more companies have "launched marketing or social media campaigns advocating equality and acceptance" in recent years, the article also notes that not everyone is happy about it, quoting the penultimate anti-gay bigot Bryan Fischer who laughably warns that all this gay-friendly "garbage" is eventually going to "trigger a blowback from ordinary Americans":

Groups such as One Million Moms, however, have reacted negatively to LGBT-inclusive ads. The activist organization recently pushed supporters to protest against Hotwire and Nabisco’s Honey Maid and Teddy Grahams because of commercials that it said is an “attempt to normalize sin.”

The American people “will put up with a lot of garbage before they react,” said Bryan Fischer, spokesman for the nonprofit American Family Association, which maintains OneMillionMoms.com. But advertisers are tempting people’s patience and generosity, he said.

“I think eventually this LGBT advertising push is gonna trigger a blowback from ordinary Americans,” Fischer said. “I think that ordinary Americans are getting fed up with having the homosexual agenda shoved down their throats when they’re watching TV with their families. … What American families are gonna begin to react to is that they are recognizing that this is no longer about advertising a product. This is about propaganda for a sexually deviant lifestyle.”

Matt Barber Says Gay Rights Advocates Act 'Like A Horde Of Locusts'

Matt Barber warned Saturday that gay people have “swarm[ed] in like a horde of locusts” and “homosexualized the Boy Scouts.”

Barber was speaking with Mission America’s Linda Harvey, who told him that she had been outraged at the sight of Boy Scouts at the Columbus, Ohio, LGBT pride parade. Barber replied that he wasn’t surprised, since “the homosexual activist agenda” is “at the forefront of child corruption, that is a major part of their agenda.”

“It is absolutely reprehensible that they are exposing these children to this perversion, to this highly sexually charged, open acts of public displays of nudity, it is just absolutely appalling,” Barber said.

“It is simply disgusting to watch, it’s appalling to watch. They take every institution, they take things that are noble and good and they swarm in like a horde of locusts and they don’t care what damage is done because it helps further their agenda, then they fly away and what’s left is a husk of what was there to begin with.”

Samuel Rodriguez: New General In Global Anti-Gay Culture War

Last month the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference announced that it was merging with Conela, a Latin America-based organization, to become “the world’s largest Hispanic Evangelical association” claiming to represent more than 500,000 churches. As Kyle reported, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver had encouraged the NHCLC’s Samuel Rodriguez to expand into Latin America after Staver’s visit to Peru, where he encouraged legislators to resist legal equality for gay people and same-sex couples.

The wildly anti-gay Matt Barber, also with Liberty Counselpraised the merger as a way for the NHCLC to join the Religious Right’s global war against LGBT equality:

"And so NHCLC," Barber said, "is really putting up a firewall to protect Latin America from, unfortunately, this cancerous invasion of immorality and [this] exporting [of] radical homosexual activism and radical pro-abortion activism, ultimately a culture of death.”

In a new interview with the Christian Post, Rodriguez uses similar language about creating a “firewall against moral relativism” and discloses some details about the merger and the combined group’s plans. Rodriguez is the CEO of the new merged NHCLC/Conela, while Conela’s former President Ricardo Luna is the executive director.

Rodriguez says Conela had already adopted NHCLC’s agenda and so the new group can go to work immediately building out an infrastructure in Latin America.

Conela already has been functioning with the Lamb's agenda and our 7 Directives, so it's a matter of creating infrastructure and amplifying the media and messaging platforms in Latin America.

If the question is whether or not we are going to be as active on the social political front in Latin America as we are in America, the answer is yes, again, not in the spirit of political advocacy, but in the spirit of prophetic activism.

Let me give you an example. Two weeks ago, in Baja California, the Mexico chapter director met with the governor of Baja California with hundreds of pastors united to discuss the issues of religious liberty, to discuss the issues of the 7 Directives as it pertains to Mexico.

He says they’re still working out the structural details.

We are in the board restructuring phase right now and a number of events taking place. One in October in Panama and there's one in December with 1,000 pastors in Mexico, there's one taking place in Europe at the beginning of the year.

My objective is to travel around Latin America with Ricardo, get to know the key influential pastors and leaders as we structure this global network and provide the resources that national pastors and regional leaders need to advance the Lamb's agenda.

Rodriguez, in spite of his media treatment as an evangelical moderate, made crystal clear that his organization is part of the Religious Right political movement when it reached a formal agreement to make the far-right Liberty Counsel the NHCLC’s official legislative and policy arm, and when Staver became a board member and chief legal counsel to the group.

Rodriguez’s rhetoric doesn’t seem to be changing.

Theologically speaking, we are on the same track. We are committed to biblical orthodoxy. We are committed to biblical truth. We are committed to making sure that truth is never sacrificed on the altar of expediency. We are committed to Billy Graham's message of salvation through Christ alone and through Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s March for Justice. So, we are committed to both righteousness and justice. We are evangelical. We do embrace the Manhattan Declaration. We would sign on to that.

Merging Billy Graham with Martin Luther King is the standard rhetoric of Rodriguez’s stump speech. Rodriguez has built allies among more progressive Christians by advocating for immigration reform and signing on to the Circle of Protection, a call from religious leaders not to sacrifice programs for the poor in order to reduce the deficit. But Rodriguez has also signed onto right-wing declarations that oppose progressive taxation, and embraced right-wing rhetoric about people being “enslaved” by government and “uber-entitlements.” And, of course, he is utterly opposed to marriage equality and legal access to abortion.

Rodriguez is connected to the dominionist New Apostolic Reformation and was a founding board member of the Oak Initiative, though he resigned after being confronted about the group’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and activities. He clearly has big ambitions for the new group.

"We are not drinking the proverbial Kool-Aid that Christianity is in decline, that this is the last hour of the Christian global narrative in a significant matter," Rodriguez told The Christian Post recently in an exclusive interview about the merger that took place on May 1. "We are not drinking the Kool-Aid. As a matter of fact, we have a very strong sense of optimism … we do believe the best is yet to come….

"It may very well be the largest Protestant network in the world, meaning that after the Catholic Church, this may very well be the largest Christian network organization in the world," he said. "I believe it speaks accolades to the growth of the Latino Christian demographic. I think it speaks accolades to Latino born-again Christians around the world because if this is the largest network in the world and now we are leading the charge of global evangelicalism."

Anti-Gay Activists Hopeful Hobby Lobby Will Lead To License To Discriminate

Anti-gay activists are rejoicing at the Supreme Court's decision in Hobby Lobby today, in part because they are hopeful that the decision will pave the way for one of their own policy goals: to use the religious liberty argument to push for broad exemptions for corporations from nondiscrimination laws.

Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber is hopeful that the decision bodes well for those trying to use religious freedom as a cloak to justify discrimination against LGBT people:

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality has a similar take:

There may be reason for them to be optimistic. As SCOTUSblog pointed out, the majority's opinion pointedly leaves open "the question of whether the Government has a similarly compelling interest in preventing discrimination on the basis of sex or sexual orientation."

With respect to implications for other kinds of religious-based discrimination, the Court writes that racial discrimination in hiring will not be permitted under RFRA because "The Government has a compelling interest in providing equal opportunity to participate in the workforce without regard to race, and prohibitions on racial discrimination are precisely tailored to acheive [sic] that critical goal." Note that this leave open the question of whether the Government has a similarly compelling interest in preventing discrimination on the basis of sex or sexual orientation.

UPDATE: TPM has more on this.

UPDATE II: Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association has joined the chorus:

Barber: Gay Marriage Is 'The Brainchild' Of Satan

On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast, Mat Staver and Matt Barber cited recent remarks made by Pope Francis about how "the Devil wants to destroy" the family in order to declare that gay marriage is "the brainchild" of Satan himself.

"Marriage is the cornerstone institution of any healthy society," Barber asserted, "and so clearly the Father of Lies, the Enemy of the World hates marriage, wants to destroy marriage and so this concept of counterfeit marriage, of same-sex marriage, that is the brainchild, Mat, of none other than the Father of Lies himself."

Staver was in complete agreement, saying that gay marriage is an effort to "abolish all truth" as part of Satan's "attack on God."

"Ultimately, at the end of the day," Staver said, "it is a spiritual attack ... This is the bidding of the Devil. This is a spiritual assault on all of us who are made in the image of God":

Self-Aware Bobby Jindal Is Tired Of 'Candidates Who Tell Us One Thing Then Go Do Another'

In an interview earlier this month with the Iowa blog Caffienated Thoughts, noted paragon of consistency Bobby Jindal lamented about “candidates who tell us one thing then go do another” on judicial nominations.

Jindal was discussing recent court decisions in favor of marriage equality, which he suggested could be grounds for recalling judges. In 2012, Jindal joined the failed effort to recall an Iowa Supreme Court justice who had joined the court’s unanimous marriage equality ruling.

The Louisiana governor spent the first half of the interview deriding the Common Core education standards — which he previously backed — as a “federal takeover of education."

Paranoia-Rama LGBT Pride Month Edition: 'Gay Gulags,' 'Reeducation Camps' And HIV Cure

RWW’s Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right.

In honor of LGBT Pride Month, we have dedicated this week’s edition to looking at five of the most bizarre anti-LGBT stories coming from the Right Wing just in the past week.

5. Rick Santorum Fears Gay ‘Reeducation Camps’

Religious Right activists continue to stoke fears about gay rights supporters organizing an anti-Christian holocaust, and Rick Santorum is happy to help. The former senator and presidential candidate, out with a new film about the purported loss of religious freedom in America, warned this week that Christians in the U.S. are being sent off to “reeducation camps” and face jail and martyrdom. Santorum was speaking to none other than Bryan Fischer, the American Family Association radio host who believes gay people are to blame for the Holocaust and are modern-day Nazis.

4. Gay Gulags

If you thought Santorum’s remarks were a rare occurrence in the Religious Right, just read today’s commentary from BarbWire senior editor Jeff Allen, who warns that the “gaystapo” wants its opponents “summarily shipped off on the ‘highway’ to the ‘gay’ gulag of sensitivity training — actually, reeducation camp to receive a government-provided, pro-perversity lobotomy.”

He warns about “alarming homosexual efforts at shredding the dictionary, distorting of the Constitution, creating false rights out of thin air, rewriting civil laws to criminalize deeply held moral convictions, hijacking science to promote a deviant political/social agenda, and eliminating all religious and conscience protections for business owners,” adding that “every advance of the militant ‘gay agenda’ comes at the literal expense of true democracy and freedom.”

“Many of the vindictive items on homosexual agenda are designed exactly as vengeance against their supposed oppressors,” Allen writes. “Unlike the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s in which African Americans united and fought against the truly heinous injustices of racial inequality and unprovoked acts of violence, the homosexual rights movement has no intentions of being peaceful. Nobody should fool themselves, this is a hostile takeover of America.”

3. Gays Want To Molest Their Kids

Those of you who haven’t been shipped off to a gay FEMA camp yet may want to consider this brilliant analysis by Mission America’s Linda Harvey, who this week alleged that gay parents are much more likely than others to sexually abuse their children because “when you are open to sinful, God-defying behavior in one profound way, violating other boundaries happens more easily.”

2. More GOP Rebranding

Speaking out in opposition to amendment to prohibit charter schools from discriminating in hiring on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, North Carolina House Speaker Pro Tem Paul ‘Skip’ Stam compared gay people to pedophiles and “distributed a flier titled ‘What Is A “Sexual Orientation”?’ that compares being lesbian or gay to mental disorders such as apotemnophilia (sexual arousal associated with an amputee’s stump) and coprophilia (sexual arousal associated with feces).”

The handout reportedly originated from the far-right Traditional Values Coalition. Catherine Thompson of TPM notes that “Stam did not mention that the information in his handout, which dated back to 2000, had been updated in the APA manual to classify those attractions as ‘disorders’ rather than ‘orientations,’ according to the news station.”

Local Religious Right activists quickly rushed to Stam’s defense after word of the flier got out.

This isn’t the first time Stam has tried to pull off this sort of stunt: he made similar claims while denouncing the School Violence Protect Act.

1. HIV/AIDS Cure At Pride

The latest religious group to claim to be able to cure HIV comes out of Minnesota, where an evangelical coalition is insisting that they will cure people of HIV at the upcoming Twin Cities Pride.

Andy Birkey of The Column reports that the group’s leader, Steven Uggen, believes God told him that he has the “healing power” to cure people of HIV, although most will not be grateful:

One of the words we got out of this outreach, the Lord really wanted to demonstrate his goodness to this community by releasing healing of HIV and AIDS, so we believe we’re going to see people healed of HIV and AIDS and we’re just, we’re carrying that word of the Lord into this outreach. And that will be part of our training just praying with boldness for the releasing of healing power and then sending them back to their doctors literally after praying for them. ‘Here’s what I want you to do: go to your doctor, get tested for HIV or AIDS and when you come back negative, you’ve got a decision to make whether you’re gonna serve the God who just healed you’ and then give them some gospel materials that they can take with them and encourage them to call on us and let us know and I’m confident that we’re going to have people healed of HIV and AIDS that are going to be contacting us. The funny thing is Jesus healed the 10 lepers and only one came back to acknowledge him so there may be 10 that get healed but only one come back, you know. This is a strategy that God wants to use so the very fruit of their sin is what he wants to, like, take away to show them his kindness and his goodness. I mean it’s just totally Jesus. I mean it’s like totally his way so we’re excited about that.

Benham Brothers Ready To Die In Battle

The Religious Right mythologizing of David and Jason Benham continues. The Benham brothers – whose plans for a reality TV show on HGTV were scrapped by the network after Right Wing Watch reported on the brothers’ anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-Islam activism – were featured speakers at last week’s Road to Majority conference, sponsored by Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition. And they’re on the schedule for the much bigger Values Voter Summit in September.

A Christian Post story on their appearance at Road to Majority frames their experience in typical martyrs-to-their-faith rhetoric, saying their reality show “was canceled because they spoke about their Christian views.”

Now, we don’t know exactly what motivated HGTV’s decision, but it seems to be a pretty good bet that it had nothing to do with the fact that the Benhams are outspoken about their Christian faith, and more to do with the fact that they had been outspoken advocates of limiting other people’s rights – as when Jason urged Charlotte, North Carolina, officials to deny permits for LGBT pride events, or when David took part it protests against the Islamic community center that critics inaccurately dubbed the “Ground Zero Mosque.”

The Religious Right revels in manufacturing martyrs. And the Benham brothers are happy to play the part, portraying themselves as targets of a demonic gay rights movement that is out to silence its critics. “If people remain silent, then it’s going to continue to get worse. But when folks step up, and speak boldly the truth, and then it can actually get pushed back,” David told the Christian Post. “You have to be willing to die. I mean, Jason and I had to be willing to lose our show. We had to be willing to lose a book deal…”

In their Road to Majority remarks, the Benham brothers portrayed themselves as warriors.

“We just remember June the 6th, 1944. We know what happened at D-Day. We know what happened on Omaha and Utah beach. There’s something about those men that our dad taught us when we were kids. And he said, ‘Boys, don’t you ever run from bullets. You run toward the bullets.’ There are cultural bullets flying, all over today, especially religious liberty. And what’s happening right now is many spiritual leaders, elected leaders, they are running from bullets. But there’s a remnant of people that are ready to stand and say ‘I’m not running from these bullets any more. I’m gonna take this beach…’”

One of the brothers invoked Meriam Ibrahim, a Christian woman who had been jailed in Sudan for refusing to renounce her faith (and who, it was reported today, is now safe in the US embassy), and then invoked Mel Gibson’s bloody battle epic “Braveheart.”

“Just like in the movie Braveheart, when all the Scottish Army was standing there, and they all had their gear on, and they were lined up and they were unified, and they were ready to fight but not a single one of them wanted to fight.  And then as William Wallace and a few men rode in on horses with blue face paint on. They were ready to pick a fight. And what I see before me right now are a bunch of people with some blue face paint on – so let’s go get it!"

One Year After Passage Of Gay Propaganda Ban, American Right Continues To Look To Russia As A Guide

The Human Rights Campaign released a report today to mark the first anniversary of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s signing of his infamous ban on “gay propaganda” and related anti-LGBT legislation. HRC reports “an uptick in violent attacks on LGBT people” since the bills’ passage that has accompanied a spike in “anti-LGBT sentiment” in the public square.

Yet despite the dangerous consequences of the increasing use of LGBT people as scapegoats — both in Russia and in neighboring Eastern European and Central Asian countries — and the place of anti-gay politics in Putin’s expansionist agenda, many on the American Religious Right continue to celebrate Putin’s crackdown on gay rights and even to hail it as a model for the United States.

The issue has been divisive on the Right. For instance, Accuracy in Media’s Cliff Kincaid — hardly a fan of gay people — got into a memorable shouting match earlier this year with World Congress of Families representatives, who he accused of cozying up to Putin.

It has also put some groups in tough positions. The World Congress of Families was forced to suspend its planned conference at the Kremlin, which was to be funded by a handful of people close to Putin, after Russia seized Crimea and groups including Concerned Women for America started backing out.

But we continue to hear right-wing activists heaping praise on Putin for his enthusiastic anti-gay politics and increasing embrace of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Just last week, Phyllis Schlafly praised Putin for “warming up to religious freedom” as “Americans are rejecting it”:

And earlier this week, WorldNetDaily announced that people around the world are “fleeing” to Russia to escape homosexuality in their own countries .

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer continues to push for the U.S. to adopt a “propaganda” ban like Russia’s:

Anti-gay activists including Pat Buchanan,Peter LaBarbera,Franklin Graham,Scott Lively,Keith Davies,Linda Harvey,Randall Terry,Gordon Klingenschmitt,Janice Shaw Crouse, Austin Ruse, Bob Vander Plaats , Rick Scarborough and, of course, the WorldCongress of Families have defended Russia’s anti-gay crackdown or called for similar laws in the U.S.

And, of course, some have directly lent their support to the passage of anti-gay laws in Russia: the World Congress of Families has an active network in Russia and Eastern Europe and just days before Putin signed the propaganda ban recruited the National Organization for Marriage’s Brian Brown to warn Russian lawmakers about the risks of gay rights.

The support for laws that have dangerously scapegoated LGBT people in Russia is especially ironic coming from a movement that claims that the gay rights movement in the United States is persecuting them .

Peter LaBarbera Defends Uganda, Warns Of Gay 'Neo-Imperialism'

Yesterday on VCY America’s flagship radio show “Crosstalk,” Peter LaBarbera expressed outrage over Joe Biden’s recent remarks in support of LGBT rights, accusing the vice president of “neo-imperialism.”

LaBarbera, the head of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, defended draconian anti-gay laws in Uganda and Jamaica: “The American government has embraced a neo-imperialism where we arrogantly override the beliefs of countries like Jamaica and Uganda and other countries with the idea that we, America, know what’s best for the world.”

He went on to tell host Jim Schneider that homosexuality is “destructive” and “highly dangerous.”

“This is not civilized behavior, this is sinful, destructive behavior which is being celebrated by our government, and if that’s not bad enough, then forced upon the world as if America with all of our sin and all of our decadence knows what is best for the world,” he said.

Noting the low turnout at recent anti-gay events, LaBarbera wondered if “God has given up on America” since “many people are giving in now” on gay marriage.

He also encouraged the boycott of pro-LGBT companies like JCPenney, Macy’s, Starbucks: “There has to be a price to pay.” He specifically called out Honey Maid, which drew the ire of Religious Right activists for its inclusive TV ads. “I’ll never touch those crackers again,” he said.

LaBarbera also took a call from a listener who said that the country is “headed for a civil war” to stop liberals from “destroying our great country.”

LaBarbera responded that liberals are “dangerous” due to their “intolerance.”

“They will not allow in their minds the acceptability as legitimate of a viewpoint against homosexuality, which means they’re against God,” he added.

Ben Carson Explains How Gay Marriage Is A Marxist Plot To Impose The 'New World Order'

In his keynote speech at the National Organization for Marriage’s March for Marriage gala last week, Dr. Ben Carson explained how Marxists are using LGBT rights to destroy American unity and impose the "New World Order."

Carson said he knows about this plot from reading right-wing conspiracy theorist W. Cleon Skousen’s book “The Naked Communist.”

Earlier in the speech, Carson told the audience that gay-rights opponents are the real victims of “injustice” because they just want to be “left alone.”

“When we talk about liberty and justice for all, doesn’t that mean that people can be left alone, that no-one else gets to change definitions on them and change life for them?” he asked.

“They have no right to say to me that I must change the way I think in order to accommodate what they believe,” he said. “That’s where the injustice comes from, and we have to understand that.”

Christian Post Blogger Says Gay Marriage Is Like Calling A Hamburger A Hot Dog

Michael Bresciani is offended that the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv raised the LGBT flag during Pride Month, writing today in the Christian Post that the Obama administration’s support for LGBT rights is akin to “sending armies into the backyard barbecues of other nations to insure the rights of hamburgers to be called hot dogs.”

Disturbed by the idea of the flag of “perversion flying next to the very banner of freedom that cost so many Americans their lives to defend,” Bresciani writes that his “great disgust and deep sadness” are turning into “the first waters of a great flood.”

Facebook recently sported a picture of the gay rainbow flag flying alongside the Stars and Stripes outside the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv. It is hard to imagine the flag of a minority whose preference is perversion flying next to the very banner of freedom that cost so many Americans their lives to defend, but this is Obama’s idea of a righteous war.

Obama is no Alexander the Great or Norman Schwarzkopf and his chosen battle is the moral equivalent of sending armies into the backyard barbecues of other nations to insure the rights of hamburgers to be called hot dogs.

Those of us who will never sway from the Bible’s clear teaching that homosexuality is a perversion and an abomination to God, will find ourselves raising our own flag higher and higher as we stand against the moral decline of a nation we love and believe was once truly blessed by God.

Nearly fifty years in prophecy and fully knowing that these days of decline were well prophesied does little to keep the feelings of great disgust and deep sadness from creeping in like the first waters of a great flood. Having been through Hurricane Katrina and losing everything, I know what is left after the flood waters recede. You don’t want to see this!

Anti-Gay Activists Claim Macy's 'Insulted American Families' By Participating In LGBT Pride Events

The same crowd of Religious Right activists who cry “homo-fascism!” any time gay rights supporters criticize a business that supports anti-gay discrimination, is now organizing a campaign against Macy’s over the department store chain’s support for LGBT pride events.

In an interview published in BarbWire today, Phil Burress of Citizens for Community Values spoke with Linda Harvey, the head of Mission America, about why customers should be upset with Macy’s.

A coalition of pro- family and Christian groups is launching a campaign to inform American families about the unfortunate role of Macy’s, Inc. Department Stores and affiliates in supporting “gay pride” parades in cities throughout the nation.

Many people have no idea how radical these parades are,” said Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values of Cincinnati. “The events and activities of a typical ‘pride’ week-end are decadent and highly-sexualized, deliberately so. They are a disgrace to communities, and certainly shouldn’t be financially supported by a retailer like Macy’s that claims to serve families.”

Throughout the summer months and “gay pride” season, Macy’s is making a different choice: to support the degradation of communities through events that are an insult to American families.

“This is nothing to be proud of,” Burress said, “and Macy’s should know better. Their customers certainly do.”

The American Family Association also denounced “the contemptible role of Macy’s department stores in supporting ‘gay pride’ throughout the nation,” arguing that [the] the chain’s actions “are a disgrace to communities.”

The group is encouraging members to write to Macy’s to protest the company’s support for a “very dangerous” and “destructive lifestyle.”

Dear Chairman Lundgren:

I am disappointed to learn that Macy's chooses to celebrate the sin of homosexuality.

Your company has taken a brazen approach toward the sanctity of family and marriage, and this offends the moral conscience of America.

Count my family as one who urges Macy's to reconsider the impact its decisions and promotions have on people. Homosexuality is very dangerous and unhealthy, and only leads to a destructive lifestyle.

While comparing conservatives’ opposition to LGBT equality and abortion rights to the struggles against slavery and tyranny, BarbWire content editor Gina Miller writes in a column today that “the dangerous political agenda of the tyrannical homosexual movement” represents “a full-frontal assault on Christianity itself, as well as our God-given freedoms and the very foundations of our constitutional Republic.” She adds that while “God will avenge every wrong done by the Godless in this world,” right-wing activists should not “stand silently by in... This past weekend, National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown was scheduled to stop in France on his way back from Moscow to train activists with the French anti-gay group Manif Pour Tous. Manif Pour Tous is the most prominent organization working against LGBT rights in France, and has strong ties with American groups, as evidenced by its president Ludovine de la Rochere’s appearance at this year’s March for Marriage in Washington, D.C. So what was the Manif Pour Tous event that Brown participated in like? A reporter from the French publication Le Nouvel... MORE

Georgia pastor and activist Jody Hice, who is now the GOP nominee to fill Rep. Paul Broun’s U.S. House seat, explained on an episode of his radio program posted today that LGBT people aren’t asking for equal rights because “gay people have the same rights as everybody else.” “Let’s just suppose a gay person comes up to you and says something like, ‘Why shouldn’t I have the same rights as everybody else? Why can I not marry the person I love?’” Hice said. “Well what rights are we talking about?” he asked, before implying... MORE

Linda Harvey of Mission America spoke to BarbWire columnist Gina Miller on her radio show this weekend, where the two reprised their attacks on LGBT rights as a demonic, destructive force. Reflecting on a campaign to push for LGBT rights in Southern states, Harvey said anti-gay activists should have the same “kind of boldness” and go to pride parades and “places that are homosexual” like San Francisco, Provincetown and Key West. Miller, however, cautioned that “a lot of the homosexual radicals are radical and they’re violent and vicious,” adding:... MORE

Colorado GOP politician Gordon Klingenschmitt is upset that a New York court fined a wedding business for denying service to a same-sex couple, warning in an email alert that “literally the court is banning Christian worship.” Klingenschmitt, a Religious Right activist who is the Republican nominee for a seat in the Colorado State House, told members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project in a Saturday email that the court told the business owners that they “cannot worship Christ during a wedding, unless they also worship and participate equally in sodomy in their own home.... UPDATED According to the foundation run by Russian oligarch Constantin Malofeev, this week’s international gathering of anti-gay, anti-abortion-rights activists in Moscow ended with delegates issuing a proclamation that blasts liberal social policies in Western countries and calls for Russian-style “homosexual propaganda” bans to be passed throughout the world. The forum in Moscow was originally organized under the name of the Illinois-based World Congress of Families, which officially “suspended” its planning of the conference after Russia invaded Ukraine,... On yesterday’s edition of “Crosstalk,” Voice of Christian Youth America’s Vic Eliason and Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver connected same-sex marriage in the U.S. to beheadings committed by the terrorist group ISIS. Discussing recent marriage equality legal victories, Staver made his standard prediction that the legalization of same-sex marriage will pave the way for polygamy. Eliason responded by accusing gay rights advocates of destroying morality and biblical values, leading to a decadent, anything-goes society. “People see something they want, they steal it... MORE
