Joseph Farah says "Newt Gingrich is a liberal." Micah Clark, executive director of the American Family Association of Indiana, says Mitch Daniels "has a bit of a weakness on the homosexual demands." Phyllis Schlafly gets worked up over the strangest things. Mitt Romney hires Mark DeMoss. From the latest FRC prayer update: "May Tennessee enact this bill to prevent ENDA-like ordinances! May Congress do so likewise, if the President dares to circumvent Congress by issuing an ENDA-like Executive Order!" Finally, quote of the day... MORE >

A few weeks back, Jim Garlow announced that, due to Newt Gingrich's possible presidential run, Gingrich and Rick Tyler had stepped down from their roles of leadership in Renewing American Leadership – leaving Garlow in control as Chairman, CEO & President.
Ever since, the updates from ReAL have taken on an even more pronounced Religious Right tone, with Garolw announcing things like the formation of a ReAL prayer team and now sending out messages like this one from Vivian Berryhill, founder/president of the National Coalition of Pastors' Spouses, announcing that the "... Jim Garlow is now running the show at Renewing American Leadership because Newt Gingrich and Rick Tyler had to step aside due to Gingrich's presidential campaign. Speaking of Gingrich, he's written a book on "American Exceptionalism." So that ought to be interesting. NOM has a new Facebook page ... I wonder why? Matt Barber and Shawn Akers spent today's radio program blasting Judge Vaughan Walker and asserting that gay judges cannot rule on cases involving issues that might be relevant to gays. Peter LaBarbera is outraged over Joe.My.God's... MORE >

Yesterday, it was announced that Jim Garlow, chairman of Newt Gingrich's Renewing American Leadership, would be participating in a protest against the Ninth Circuit's ruling that the Mt. Soledad Cross was unconstitutional:
Said Dr. Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego, and Chairman of Renewing American Leadership located in Washington DC, "These revisionist judges consistently confuse the historic recognition of the role that the Christian faith -- embraced by 90% of our citizens -- and Christian symbols have played and continue to play in our national life... Last week when Jeremy Hooper discovered that the Family Research Council was planning to roll out a campaign fighting back against the Southern Poverty Law Center's designation of the organization as an anti-gay hate group, we noted that FRC was asking people to sign on to the campaign to "stand in solidarity with Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women of America, National Organization for Marriage, Liberty Counsel and other pro-family organizations that are working to protect and promote natural marriage and family."
By doing so, we pointed... MORE >

Several months ago, we noted that Jim Garlow and David Barton were leading a 12 day tour of the East Coast where participants would learn all about the Christian history of our nation and its founder and visit "the sites of the 1st and 2nd Great Awakening, while praying for the 3rd."
This "Next Great Awakening Tour" wrapped up in Washington, DC on July 4th and, as we noted last week, it was during this tour that both Barton and Garlow were featured on Glenn Beck's television program. As it turns out, participants in this tour also got to participate in... MORE >

As I mentioned before, the right-wing supergroup The Freedom Federation held a press conference yesterday to lay out its position on the healthcare reform debate. Their position? The current system "has problems" but "it is working."And look at how they explain just how well it is working:[Harry] Jackson recounted his own diagnosis with esophageal cancer three years ago, and expressed gratitude to have had good insurance coverage. “I was given about a 15 percent chance of living by the doctors, and at that time we had to choose where we were going to go, and so we... Dan Gilgoff reports that Newt Gingrich is unveiling a new effort, called Renewing American Leadership, designed to bring together both the economic and social conservative wings of the Republican Party’s base under a common banner: Gingrich will be working with David Barton, with whom he has struck up a strong relationship in recent years, as well as working to convince fiscal conservatives to start making nice with their socially conservative allies in order to take advantage of their shared ideology and values: At a time when many religious conservatives say the Republican...
