Early voting is already under way in Houston, where anti-gay activists forced a new nondiscrimination law onto the ballot next Tuesday. During a legal fight over the validity of signatures gathered for the effort, lawyers for the administration of Mayor Annise Parker issued broad subpoenas to five ministers asking for sermons and other communications about homosexuality and the law, which gave the ministers and their allies an opening to cry "religious persecution." Even though the subpoenas were quickly withdrawn in the face of criticism from across the political spectrum, the... MORE >

On Monday, the day before the World Congress of Families conference opened in Salt Lake City, some of America’s most strident anti-gay voices convened for an all-day session they dubbed #Stand4Truth. Turnout was small — about 50 during the day, a bit more in the evening — and the lunchtime press conference was delivered to a room devoid of press, but organizers filmed the speakers in hopes of turning the footage into a documentary or other resource for anti-gay activists. The 11-hour-plus event (counting short breaks for lunch and dinner) was hosted by Sandy Rios of the... MORE >

Last week, the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP), a small group associated with the National Organization for Marriage, presented Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore with its first “Letter from the Birmingham Jail Courage Award,” comparing Moore’s defiance of federal courts on marriage equality to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s civil disobedience during the civil rights movement. Moore accepted the award by comparing federal court decisions in favor of marriage equality to the infamous Supreme Court decisions in Plessy v. Ferguson and Dred Scott. Reading a passage... MORE >

Conservative groups are once again gearing up their annual campaign to convince parents to pull their children from school on the Day of Silence, an anti-bullying event sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). In an interview with Breitbart News published over the weekend, Rev. William Owens of the National Organization for Marriage-affiliated Coalition of African-American Pastors (CAAP) warned that the Day of Silence is part of an effort by the “cult-like” LGBT rights movement “to brainwash Americans into believing that homosexuality is... Even though God stopped President Obama from nuking Charleston, according to one Colorado lawmaker, God permitted a brutal attack on a Colorado woman as punishment for abortion rights. Even worse, other conservative activists believe that God is preparing to destroy America if the Supreme Court approves of gay marriage. MORE >

Before addressing last week’s March for Marriage, where he called for a new anti-gay “civil rights movement,” Rev. William Owens appeared on “The Capitol Hill Show” with Tea Party News Network host Tim Constantine to promote the rally. Owens told Constantine that allowing gay people to marry takes away his rights, without of course saying which rights he is losing exactly. He is suffering so greatly, in fact, that he called for “another civil rights movement to reclaim our rights” with people who are “willing to die” to oppose LGBT... MORE >

Rev. William Owens, president of the NOM front organization known as the Coalition of African-American Pastors, spoke at today's March for Marriage where he declared that he had participated in "the real civil rights movement" and "didn't march one yard, one foot for the same sex to get married." Saying that the push for marriage equality is nothing but a "bully movement," Owens declared that the fight against gay marriage is the modern civil rights movement and, as such, activists must refuse to comply with laws recognizing it and be willing to go to... In an interview with Janet Mefferd yesterday about his call for the impeachment of Attorney General Eric Holder, pastor William Owens insisted that President Obama is “anti-Christian” and the worst president in at least the last 75 years. “We elected the wrong black president,” Owens said. “His strategy was, ‘If I get the Catholic Church, I can get all the churches because of their size; let’s knock them off, we’ll get all of them.’ He’s anti-Christian, he stands up for no Christian values whatsoever.” Owens told Mefferd...
