Jacobs: Satan Seeks to Destroy God's Model for the Family and Install Tyranny

The third annual Awakening conference was held this weekend and, unlike the first two which took place at Liberty University, this year's conference was held down in Orlanda, Florida.  But other than that, the event was similar to those held in previous years, featuring various breakout sessions mixed with a few plenary session featuring panel discussions, messages from various Republican leaders, and time for worship.

This year, attendees were treated to video messages from the likes of Marco Rubio, Allen West, and Newt Gingrich, interspersed between addresses from leaders like Richard Land, panels featuring various Religious Right activists like Matt Barber and Rick Scarborough, and praise and worship services led by Lou Engle.

The event kicked off Friday evening the with a panel discussion on "Religious Liberty, Life and Family" that featured several Hispanic leaders ... and Cindy Jacobs, whom moderator Mat Staver repeatedly referred to as "Wendy."

And, as you would expect, Jacobs kicked off the panel by declaring that "Satan wants to steal God's family and create tyranny to have a people he can rule over" and is doing so by undermining God's design for the family as featuring one man and one woman:

Right Wing Round-Up - 4/20/12

Right Wing Leftovers - 4/20/12

  • Janet Porter declares [PDF] that her May 19 rally in support of Ohio's "Heartbeat Bill" is "The Most Important Pro-Life Rally Since 1973."
  • CBN News declares that it "has obtained a document showing that the very foundation of the group known as Media Matters for America is built on anti-Christian bias."
  • A who's who of Religious Right leaders have written to Congress "urging hearings on the harm of pornography and the need to enforce obscenity laws."
  • FRC says the Obama administration"has imposed homosexual practice upon our military and has mandated that religious schools provide contraception, sterilization and abortifacient drugs to all students and staff - at taxpayer expense!" And they are praying for God to intervene: "God, the moral breakdown in America is too far gone for men to turn the tide. We need you to do what only you can do, to heal our land. Nevertheless, show us what you want us to do!"
  • Finally, James Dobson declares that he will never abide by any regulation that funds abortion in any way: "This assault on the sanctity of human life takes me where I cannot go. I WILL NOT pay the surcharge for abortion services. The amount of the surcharge is irrelevant. To pay one cent for the killing of babies is egregious to me, and I will do all I can to correct a government that lies to me about its intentions and then tries to coerce my acquiescence with extortion. It would be a violation of my most deeply held convictions to disobey what I consider to be the principles in Scripture. The Creator will not hold us guiltless if we turn a deaf ear to the cries of His innocent babies. So come and get me if you must, Mr. President. I will not bow before your wicked regulation."

David Barton Takes Credit for Obama's Easter Message

Back in February, David Barton released a document declaring that President Obama was "America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President" and today, on his "WallBuilders Live" radio program, Barton credited that document with pressuring President Obama to release a "powerful Easter address." Barton claims that the White House Press Secretary was asked about his document and suggests that it was that "embarrassing situation" that forced the administration to issue the Easter greeting earlier this month:

Barton: A few weeks ago we put out a piece through WallBuilders that was entitled "America’s Most Biblically-Hostile President." And unbeknownst to me, that actually made it to the White House. And so at the White House press conference, they actually asked the Press Secretary about it ... and asked "what do you have to say about this list?" What list? And they went down the list and the Press Secretary [said] "I didn't realize all those things had happened." And they said "so, does that mean no comment?" [And the Press Secretary said] "I'll have to look more at this."

And so that was a few weeks ago. And so lo and behold, what happens this past Easter was that President Obama came out with a powerful Easter address, I mean a Jesus Christ, Bible .., this was like Billy Graham ... We haven't had that in three and a half years.

Green: Amazing how, in an election year after being called on the carpet for how anti-Christian they've been ...

Barton ... I don't care why it came, it came. And the reason is, a hundred years after you and I are dead, if the Lord hasn't come back, this is going to still be there in the presidential records for other generations to read and see about Jesus Christ and the Resurrection and what it means on Easter ... It is good news and if it took an embarrassing situation in a press conference to do it, who cares.

Like so many other claims that Barton make, he rarely provides any evidence or details to support his assertions, which makes them difficult to verify.  Not surprisingly, we have been unable to find any reports or transcripts to support his statement that the White House was ever asked about his document, much less commented on it.  That, of course, doesn't mean it never happened, so if anyone out there happens to have any evidence that it did, we'd love to see it, so drop us a line or send us a Tweet.

Jacobs: People will be Required to get a RFID Implant to Receive Health Care

Earlier this year, Cindy Jacobs unveiled a new and improved United States Reformation Prayer Network which promised to "make a major shift in 2012" for this nation through targeted prayer that impact "some of the most significant decisions in the history of the United States." And for a mere $15 a year, anyone could become a part of the effort.

But it seems like the USRPN needs more supporters, as Cindy and Mike Jacobs released a video earlier this week touting the importance of the effort and urging people to join. In it, they attempted to convince viewers of the value of signing up by listing some of the ways in which the USRPN has been active already this year along with the sorts of information that only USRPN subscribers have gotten ... such as the news that the health care reform legislation apparently requires everyone to get an RFID chip implanted in their finger in order to receive health care:

Fischer: There was no Room for a Silver Spoon Because Obama was Stuffing his Face with Dog

Earlier this week, President Obama was speaking in Ohio where he was making the point that it is important that every person being given a fair shot at success because he, like so many others, "wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth."  The press widely reported the remark as being a shot at Mitt Romney, though the White House insists that it wasn't.

Bryan Fischer played the Obama clip on his radio program yesterday and tied it to the Right Wing's favorite story this week about how, as a child living in Indonesia, Obama was "introduced to dog meat," leading Fischer to comment that Obama "had no room for a silver spoon in there [because] he was stuffing his face with dog that he hunted and killed and skinned and barbequed himself":

Rios: 'There are Tons of People in Government' who are Communists

On yesterday's "AFA Today" radio program, Buster Wilson welcomed fellow AFA Radio Host Sandy Rios on to the program to discuss Rep. Allen West's recent allegation that were some 80 members of Congress who were members of the Communist Party.

Both Wilson and Rios were convinced that West was absolutely right, as Obama himself "admits to receiving Marxist training" and has filled his administration with open Marxists.  In fact, there was so much evidence that Communists have infiltrated the government that Wilson could not understand "why the Left would mock those of us on the Right who call attention to it."

But Rios explained that mockery was all part of an effort to discredit those who point out that "there are tons of people in government ... who embrace Socialism/Communism, even if they don't call it that":

UPDATE: Rios has posted a column on AFA's OneNewsNow seemingly suggesting that Obama is some sort of Communist plant who is aiming to help rebuild the Soviet Union:

The FBI waged war against Communist subversives from its earliest years until the 1980s when President Ronald Reagan brought the godless "Evil Empire," soaked in the blood of millions slain by Joseph Stalin, to its knees.

Yet the American Left idolized that empire and its ideology. The KGB was actively recruiting young American college students at the time young Bill Clinton mysteriously showed up in Russia while travel was still forbidden. In their own manifesto, Prairie Fire, William Ayres and Bernadine Dorn wrote: "We are a guerrilla organization .... We are communist women and men .... We need a revolutionary communist party in order to lead the struggle, give coherence and direction to the fight, seize power and build the new society." The Weather Underground sought the "violent over throw of the United States government."

The Marxist Barack Obama Sr. came to America and married Ms. Stanley Dunham, who he met in Russian class. Frank Marshall Davis, an editor of a Communist newspaper in Chicago with a damning FBI dossier, was a close friend to Ms. Dunham's father and later a mentor to his grandson, Barack Obama Jr., referred to affectionately as "Frank" in Dreams from my Father.

From the cousin Obama campaigned for, Kenyan Marxist Prime Minister, Raila Odingo, to Green Job Czar-Communist, Van Jones, to former White House communications director Anita Dunn, whose favorite political philosopher was Mao Zedong, to senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, daughter-in-law of Vernon Jarrett, philosophical friend and coworker of Frank Marshall Davis, the circle of Soviet romanticists surrounding the President seems endless.

So, what did the administration mean about resetting relations with Russia? And if this proclivity to "make it up" to the weakened Russians, handing them the tools to reclaim power, is already in place, is the gutted Space Shuttle Discovery a metaphor of what comes next?

Religious Right 'War' Room: This Weekend's Awakening Conference

The Freedom Federation – an anti-Obama amalgam of Religious Right groups, "apostolic" ministries, and the corporate-funded astroturf Americans for Prosperity – is holding its third annual Awakening conference in Orlando, Florida this weekend. Here’s how it describes the event:

Uniting our Voices Around Shared Values: Turning Voices into Votes

A war is raging against our shared values. Our faith and freedom are under attack. Silence in the face of this war is not an option. Decisive action is needed. Join with others who share the core values that make America a great nation. Take a stand for righteousness and justice and be part of a new revolution to take back America. The time has come to turn our voices into votes and to change the course of history.

Outreach to the Hispanic community is a major goal of this year’s Awakening and the theme of Friday’s opening night session.  That marks a continuation of the Freedom Federation’s efforts to re-brand the Religious Right as a multiracial and multigenerational movement, and to re-brand the culture war as a “social justice” movement. Last year’s gathering included a major effort to claim a religious grounding for the anti-tax, anti-government agenda of Grover Norquist and the Tea Party.

This year’s conference features Samuel Rodriguez, the head of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, who tries to sell the Religious Right’s culture war to Latinos while trying to get Religious Right leaders to make themselves more palatable to Latinos.  Rodriguez recently said that Latinos are here to “bring panic to the kingdom of darkness” and “make the gospel of Jesus Christ, the church, the most influential institution in America.”  He said God has sent illegal immigrants here to “redeem Christianity” in America.

Also scheduled to address this year’s conference is Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a favorite of Tea Party and Religious Right leaders who describe him as the party’s Latino Ronald Reagan. Rubio is reportedly concocting a hollowed-out version of the DREAM Act that will try to help Romney and the GOP fix their well-earned image as hostile to the aspirations of millions of immigrants.

A new feature at this year’s Awakening is Patriot Camp on Saturday for kids ages 5-15.  Organizers promise that kids will learn about “the Christian principles on which America was founded,” which is important since, “As most Christians know, our true American heritage is not taught in schools, especially not in an objective manner.”

Notably for this Obama-bashing group, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is sending a video presentation; senior Likud official Moshe Ya'alon, Vice Premier, Minister of Strategic Affairs, is also listed as a speaker.  Also on the list, some of whom might appear by video: Former GOP presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, and Reps. John Mica and Allen West. West has been warming up for the conference by announcing, McCarthy-style, that dozens of progressive members of the House of Representatives are communists.

The list of speakers is a Who’s Who of the Religious Right and conservative legal movements, including characters like spiritual warrior Lou Engle and Cindy “God kills birds when America supports gays” Jacobs, who once haunted the fringes of the far right but have since been welcomed into a movement seeking to build the broadest political base possible.  Among them:

  • John Stemberger: head of the Florida Family Policy Council who chaired the 2008 campaign that outlawed marriage equality in Florida. Awakening organizers say he has “a unique understanding" of law and government. You could say that: He has argued that only Christians are capable of creating a free society. As a lawyer he once sued a rental car company when an Irish customer was involved in a fatal crash; he argued that the company should have known that an Irish customer “would have a high propensity to drink alcohol.” (He later apologized.)
  • Rick Scarborough:birther, self-proclaimed “Christocrat,” and Rick Perry backer who said last year that he refused to endorse Romney in the primary because he is a Mormon. At the 2010 Awakening, Scarborough called Obama a “Marxist president.” Scarborough stated a few months ago that AIDS is God’s judgment for engaging in an immoral act.
  • Frank Gaffney: his infamous anti-Muslim bigotry, including charges that fellow conservatives are Islamist sympathizers, is so virulent that he was denounced by the American Conservative Union.
  • Harry Jacksonpoint man for the Religious Right’s anti-gay racial wedge strategies, defender of the National Organization for Marriage’s cynical racial wedge politics, and all-around right-wing activist, who recently called for believers to form a “fifth column” to undermine America’s secularist culture from within.
  • Rick Joyner:  a dominionist and self-proclaimed prophet who recently warned people to get out of California because God is going to punish America for not being sufficiently supportive of Israel,  Joyner heads the Oak Initiative.
  • Richard Land:  the primary political spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention, Land supports the criminalization of homosexuality and recently told NPR that “The Bible tells us that socialism and neo-socialism never worked. Confiscatory tax rates never work.” Land was recently pushed into apologizing both for racially inflammatory remarks about the Trayvon Martin case and for having plagiarized them from right-wing columnists.
  • Janet (Folger) Porter: an anti-abortion activist who famously brought fetuses to “testify” for Ohio’s “Heartbeat Bill,” declared during the 2008 GOP primary that God had chosen Mike Huckabee to lead the nation. Her radio show was dropped by a Christian radio network unhappy with her political embrace of Christian dominionists.
  • Mat Staver: heads Liberty Counsel, recently called the “homosexual agenda” a “moral iceberg” that threatens religious freedom.  At the 2010 Awakening, Staver agreed with a questioner that the health care reform law had a provision that gave Obama the power to create an army of brownshirts that could take control of communities.

Should be more fun than Disney World.  Watch for updates.

Right Wing Round-Up - 4/19/12

Right Wing Leftovers - 4/19/12

  • Judicial Watch has filed a FOIA lawsuit against the Navy on behalf of the Family Research Council seeking "access to records concerning a policy announced in a September 14, 2011, memo issued by the Commander of the Walter Reed National Military Medial Center banning the use and/or distribution of Bibles."
  • Regulations on smoking are apparently the same thing as Hitler forcing Jews to wear yellow stars.
  • Gary Bauer says that the Left wins "by making conservative values unspeakable, by demonizing its opponents."
  • Steve Deace says "Mitt Romney will lose the election this fall, which means the time is now for patriots to begin planning for 2016 lest they risk getting fooled again by the Republican establishment."
  • Finally, Bill Donohue appears to be on the verge of launching an all-out war against Jon Stewart and The Daily Show.
