Dave Daubenmire Says The National Anthem Controversy Is An Effort To Destroy Football

As a former high school football coach, it was to be expected that Religious Right activist Dave Daubenmire would have some thoughts on the controversy surrounding President Trump and his attacks against NFL players who choose to kneel during the national anthem. And considering that Daubenmire is a rabid conspiracy theorist, it was equally expected that his views on the matter would be rather unorthodox.

As Daubenmire sees it, the entire controversy is part of an intentional effort to destroy the sport of football, presumably with the assistance of the NFL itself.

On his “Pass The Salt Live” webcast this morning, Daubenmire insisted that there is nothing to stop NFL owners from requiring all players to stand during the national anthem, but the fact that owners are not doing so is a sign that “there is something extremely nefarious going on here.”

“It is a deliberate undermining of another American institution,” Daubenmire said. “I’ve been convinced from the time I was a young guy that American boys play football. American boys play football, they don’t play soccer. They play soccer in Europe, they play soccer in Russia, they play soccer in Japan; in America, we play football.”

“You look at what’s going on all across society [and] they’re doing everything they can to destroy football,” he added, fuming that “mommies aren’t letting their little boys play football anymore” because of concerns about concussions.

“You don’t want to get hurt?” Daubenmire screamed. “Well, quit riding in a car. There are a lot more concussions in cars than ever were on a football field, I can promise you that. You’re afraid you’re going to get hurt? Quit walking down steps. People break their legs all the time walking down steps.”

“We’ve got to see exactly what’s going on,” he warned. “America’s sport is being destroyed right in front of us.”
