AFA Continues Crusade Against Conservative Pundit Guy Benson Because He’s Gay

When Guy Benson of the conservative outlet Townhall publicly came out as gay, it was only a matter of time before American Family Radio’s Bryan Fischer issued a statement claiming that “Benson must be replaced” since he, as a prominent gay conservative, is “particularly dangerous to the conservative cause.”

Today, Sandy Rios, the American Family Association’s director of governmental affairs, told the AFA’s news service OneNewsNow that Benson’s presence at the upcoming Western Conservative Summit is “a serious problem” since he supports marriage equality, which she claims will lead to mass persecution “against Christians and social conservatives.”

A conservative activist and radio talk show host calls it troubling that an open homosexual will speak at an event featuring GOP presidential hopefuls.

Several GOP candidates will take part in the Western Conservative Summit 2015 scheduled for June 26-28 in Denver.

Also present at the Summit will be conservative author Guy Benson, the public editor at Townhall.com who recently revealed that he is homosexual and supports same-sex “marriage.” Sandy Rios, director of governmental affairs at the American Family Association, calls it a mistake when social conservatives, especially Christians, embrace someone who supports gay “marriage.”

“I think it’s a serious problem,” says Rios, “especially as we hurdle toward a Supreme Court decision where very likely the Supreme Court will decide against Christians and social conservatives, and very likely the persecution that will result from that decision will be exponential.”

The schedule of events shows Benson is scheduled to appear at a Saturday luncheon to discuss the topic, “Why the Left wants to end discussion.”

Rios says Benson is not the only summit participant with a problematical view of homosexuality. She says journalist Mary Katharine Ham also supports same-sex marriage and special rights for homosexuals.
