The Perils of Wooing Pat Robertson

In endorsing Rudy Giuliani today, Pat Robertson made clear that his support was based on his belief that Giuliani was the candidate best suited to defend “our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists,” but also sought to entice other right-wing leaders and voters to back him based on his promise to place ideologues on the Supreme Court:

Uppermost in the minds of social conservatives is the selection of future Supreme Court justices and lower court judges who will sit in both the federal circuit courts and the district courts … He understands the need for a conservative judiciary and with the help of the distinguished Ted Olson, who is here today, and other members of his team, has assured the American people that his choices for judicial appointments will be men and women who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia.

Watch video of Robertson endorsing Giuliani here.

With Robertson now backing Giuliani’s agenda, perhaps someone should ask Giuliani if he likewise backs Robertson’s:

PAT ROBERTSON ON …

Abortion

700 Club, 10-18-89

“First of all, the Supreme Court ruled that unborn babies weren’t human beings under the Constitution, and therefore we started an orgy of slaughter of our young…At that point we have said, our judges are waffling on life, our politicians refuse to act, and our people want to destroy unborn human life. And so God says, `Alright, if you continue the slaughter of the innocent, I’m going to begin to slaughter you.’”

700 Club, 3-21-90

“We cannot continue to murder unborn babies by the millions in America without sooner or later incurring the wrath of Almighty God and destroying everything we have decent in our society. Because if you can murder a baby when he’s viable at 21 months, weeks, you can also murder him after he’s born. And you can murder an old person who’s in the way. And that’s exactly what Adolph Hitler did, and that’s where we’re moving in this country…And it incredible that those who claim to be liberal have got blood on their hands. They’ve got this desire to murder.”

700 Club, 1-12-95

“You can’t have a society where you murder 40 million unborn babies and think you’re not going to have people going out and murdering adults. And I’m not talking about murdering abortionists. I’m talking about just killing each other in neighborhoods and killing elderly people and the rest of it. We’re a society that is obsessed with murder. The people claim to be humanists, but in the name of humanism, there’s some of the greatest murders taken place in mankind’s history.”

700 Club, 6-20-95

“We can’t just continue to be silent about [abortion]. It is an abomination in the sight of a Holy God. And if this nation continues to slaughter a million-and-a-half babies per year, innocent little babies who never hurt anybody, God Almighty is going to exact from this nation one adult for every baby we’ve killed. And right now the total is up somewhere in the neighborhood of 32 to 35 million. That’s how many adults are going to die in America before God’s wrath is finished on this nation. Now that is serious. And that’s why I think and anybody else who’s got any sense should think we should stop now before it gets an worse. I don’t care what the Supreme Court has said. It’s time we stop this killing.”

Affirmative Action

700 Club, 6-14-95

“There are groups in our society who are extremely able. The Chinese, for example, Asian-Americans, they’re extremely able and they always score high and are disproportionately represented in the high levels. Same thing generally with the Jewish people. They are very high achievers. They don’t like quotas because it will discriminate against them. If you say, `Well, you can only have five Chinese and two Jews, and so forth, and you’ve got to have fifteen Hispanics, etcetera.’ then all of sudden those people are denied their opportunities. And they are very intelligent and very vocal in society, and this is one of the reasons you’re seeing these decisions, I think. It’s unfair to these achieving groups, if you will, to deny them opportunities merely because they are of the wrong ethnic group. They consider it un-American.”

AIDS

700 Club, 5-2-86

“We have a bankruptcy of morality and AIDS is the consequence.”

700 Club, 2-26-92

“It’s time…to treat this like any other disease and use all the public health standards including isolating the people who have it and knowing who they are and taking precautions about it.”

Christian Nation and Christian Persecution

700 Club, 12-3-81

“The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christians and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society.”

700 Club, 7-2-82

“It is interesting that termites don’t build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into these institutions are primarily termites. They are destroying the institutions that have been built by Christians whether it is universities, governments or our own traditions that we have..the termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation.”

700 Club, 6-14-89

“If the Christians don’t get involved in the political process, if they don’t know their rights and insist on them, they’ll be run over by people who just don’t care about their rights. It’s just that simple, and we have been taken advantage of because we have adopted a sort of pietistic sort of way of looking at things; `I’m waiting for the rapture, I’m waiting for the Millennium,’ and so you haul us off to jail, you close down my church, and take my children off and indoctrinate them in homosexuality.”

700 Club, 9-10-92

“If the Christians in America would vote and be active in politics, the problems we are having in our nation would not be as severe. But as it is, we’re always fighting to overcome what they are doing to us, because they hold the seats of power and we are in subjection. The time has come for God’s people to be where he intended them, on top, not on the bottom.”

700 Club, 5-9-90

“…[T]he liberal media and the screenwriters participating in that are the spiritual descendants of Goebbels and the Nazis. They’re not just talking about kikes and Jews; they’re not talking about, quote, niggers. They’re talking about Christians now.”

700 Club, 7-10-90

“I’m saying to Christians right now: you and your families are in some danger. They’re in some peril…And if the Christian family doesn’t get involved, they’re in danger of being thrust into a ghetto.”

700 Club, 1-4-94

“I do believe this year that there’s going to be persecutions against Christians. I think the government is going to step up its attacks against Christians…The government frankly is our enemy and we’re going to see more and more of the people who have been placed in office last year…getting control of the levers of power, they will begin to know how to use them and they’ll use them to hurt those who are perceived as their enemies.”

Pat Robertson’s Perspective, Oct/Nov, 1992

“If Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody… This decade will not be for the faint of heart, but the resolute. Institutions will be plunged into wrenching change. We will be living through one of the most tumultuous periods of human history. When it is over, I am convinced God’s people will emerge victorious. But not victory ever comes without a battle.”

700 Club, 9-29-93

“Do you remember the Civil Rights movement? They let Black people on board the bus, but they had to go and sit at the back of the bus. When a Black person tried to move to the front of the bus, then they put him in jail. Well, that’s what is happening now. Christians can go into a tiny, little corner.”

700 Club, 1-19-95

“The game is to do exactly what Joseph Goebbels did in Nazi Germany, to take the Jewish people and stigmatize them as something less than normal and place them in ghettos and ultimately exterminate them. We’re not going to let that happen [to Christians] because we’re in the process of rebuilding a wall of morality around America.”

700 Club, 9-18-97

“In America, if somebody’s a woman, a female — protected.  If somebody’s Hispanic — protected.  If somebody’s an Asian — protected. If somebody’s an African American — protected.  If somebody’s Native American — protected. If somebody’s disabled — they’re protected.  If somebody’s a homosexual — protected.  If somebody’s a Christian — anathema.  I mean no protection whatsoever to this group in America or anyplace else.  And the politically correct philosophy being taught in our school does not encompass the rights of Christians.”

700 Club, 10-4-93

“In Germany, ladies and gentlemen, Jews were placed in an inferior status. They couldn’t identify themselves as Jews or they had to wear a Star of David and get put in ghettos and get stigmatized. And that’s what the liberals want to do is stigmatize Christians. I have seen it against me in the media for years. We have been stigmatized. We have been laughed at. We have been ridiculed by the atheistic liberals who have control of the levers of power in our society.”

Civil Rights

700 Club, 1-25-85

“[The Civil Rights Act] is an overwhelming encroachment of the federal government into the areas that the federal government has never gone before…In an area of deregulation, when government is coming out of things instead of imposing more burdens, when the federal deficit is now about $200 billion, this thing alone could add billions of dollars from federal expenses, from tax payer expenses and also could cause non-tax paying expenses again in the bills opening up an intrusion into religious affairs that is absolutely staggering. It is one of the most frightening pieces of legislation that has been brought up…”

The Courts

700 Club, 4-16-82

“Some self-willed, humanistic judges are allowing the slaughter already of 8 million unborn children which is the most tragic butchery that has ever taken place in any country in the history of the world. The 50 million unborn that are being killed rival the mass executions of Stalin, of Mao Tse Tung, of Adolph Hitler, of Genghis Khan. You name the butchers of history and they don’t hold a candle to what our Supreme Court has allowed to allowed to happen…I think judges like this ought to be run off the court. They ought to be impeached.”

St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 3-13-87

“…[P]ray somehow that those gentlemen on the Supreme Court, a couple of them, will either take retirement or be graduated to that great courtroom in the sky.”

700 Club, 5-3-95

“For the past 30, 35 years, we as a nation have abandoned God. And in one case, the Supreme Court yesterday says you can’t have a picture of Jesus, you can’t have the Ten Commandments; you can’t pray in schools; you can’t read the Bible. And the Supreme Court continuously takes its fingers and sticks them in the eye of Almighty God.”

700 Club, 1-6-97

“We have been under the grip, if you will, of an oligarchy.  They’re the words of Thomas Jefferson.  He said ‘if you’re not careful and you submit everything to the Supreme Court for decision, then you’ll find yourself under the tyranny of an oligarchy.’  That’s what’s happened.  And the oligarchy has taken us away from God.”

700 Club, 9-7-99

“And this argument about so-called separation of church and state is nothing but a specious nonsense.  The judge who rendered that decision [enjoining the Cleveland voucher program] is a Clinton appointee who is pushing a social agenda.  It has nothing to do with the Constitution whatsoever.  But ladies and gentlemen, we must have a Religious Freedom constitutional amendment.  Either there’s got to be another judge or two on the Supreme Court who will reverse a whole line of erroneous decisions that go back to 1962.  Or were going to have to declare as a people, that we will no longer be under the tyranny of an oligarchy…if we allow judges total discretion over what the Constitution means, we will be placed under…the tyranny of an oligarchy.  A non-elected, federal judge – one person – stands in the way of the will of the entire people of Ohio…This is the civil rights issue as we go into the next millennium, there’s no question about it.”

700 Club, 5-7-99

“A tiny minority of atheists, a tiny minority of so-called liberals and activists, and especially those on the Supreme Court, have taken that privilege [prayer] away from our schools.  They have violated the historic Constitution, they’ve rewritten laws that didn’t exist, and they have brought chaos.”

700 Club, 4-26-99

“We did a horrible thing in 1962, when the Supreme Court was allowed to get away with distorting the Constitution of the United States and taking first prayer, and a year later Bible reading out of the schools of America.  Then, subsequent to that, the Ten Commandments were taken down on the walls of a high school in Kentucky.  And the Ten Commandments, that says ‘thou shall not commit murder – thou shall not kill.’  Well that was considered to be sectarian and in violation of the First Amendment.  That’s utter nonsense!  It has nothing to do with our history.  But we have sown the wind and, ladies and gentlemen, we are reaping the whirlwind.  And unless the intelligent people of this country come together and say we’ve had enough of this judicial tyranny, we are going to insist on moral values in our schools, we’re going to insist on moral instructions in our home, we are going to insist on returning to the time-honored values that made this nation great.  And if we don’t do it, we are going to see a wave in this country of violence that is unprecedented in our history.”

The Federal Government

700 Club, 7-11-95

“Since the advent of the head of the Justice Department, Janet Reno, things have gotten out of control. Something is going on that is just very unwholesome in this nation. And you look for an explanation of this craziness in Oklahoma City, and a lot of it goes right back to what happened to the Branch Davidians, Randy Weaver and these other people. I mean the West is in an uproar about what’s happening. It’s happening more in the west than it is in the urban areas of the east, and those western states are just really seeking relief for what’s been done. This is a shocking abuse of federal power. It is reminiscent of the Nazis. Something has got to be done.”

Homosexuality

700 Club, 5-6-82

“You know, one of the great misnomers in our society is the term `gay.’ That somebody who is involved in something that is leading to suicide, where the V.D. rate is 11 times that of others, which are almost driven and ashamed and fearful and confused and psychotic and all the others that we read about plaguing this part of our society. The term gay is the most serious misuse of the English language. They’re not gay, they’re very, very depressed and miserable.”

700 Club, 6-6-88

“…What kind of craziness is it in our society which will put a cloak of secrecy around a group of people whose lifestyle is at best abominable. Homosexuality is an abomination. The practices of those people is appalling. It is a pathology. It is a sickness, and instead of thinking of giving these people a preferred status and privacy, we should treat AIDS exactly the same way as any other communicable disease…”

700 Club, 1-21-93

“When lawlessness is abroad in the land, the same thing will happen here that happened in Nazi Germany. Many of those people involved in Adolph Hitler were Satanists. Many of them were homosexuals. The two things seem to go together.”

700 Club, 5-18-93

“The radical left is doing everything they can to destroy the moral fiber of America. They want to do away with the family. I am absolutely persuaded one of the reasons so many lesbians are at the forefront of the pro-choice movement is because being a mother is the unique characteristic of womanhood, and these lesbians will never be mothers naturally, so they don’t anybody else to have that privilege either.”

700 Club, 1-18-94

“…[Homosexuals] want to come into churches and disrupt church services and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers…”

700 Club, 9-6-95

“If the world accepts homosexuality as its norm and if it moves the entire world in that regard, the whole world is then going to be sitting like Sodom and Gomorrah before a Holy God. And when the wrath of God comes on this earth, we will all be guilty and we will all suffer for it.”

Jews & Israel

700 Club, 4-5-90

“…[T]he amazing thing to me is that many who are the ancestors, the descendants if you will, of some of those who were persecuted under the Nazis are at the forefront of the pro-abortion movement. It’s kind of hard to understand.”

The New Millennium, 1991

“Liberal Jews [are engaged in] an ongoing attempt to undermine the public strength of Christianity.”

700 Club, 11-21-95

“I join with many people who feel that God gave the Holy Land to the Jewish people. And it’s their’s by grant from Father Abraham, through Isaac…I frankly think that anybody — including your’s truly because the Lord made that clear to me, I’m talking about me as well — anybody who interferes with the fulfillment of God’s prophecy in the Holy Land is putting himself or herself in jeopardy.  I do not condone violence…But nevertheless, I say again that anybody who steps outside of prophecy and tries to hinder the fulfillment of God’s word is in danger.”

700 Club 1-5-06

Ladies and Gentlemen I said last year that Israel was entering into the most dangerous periods of its entire existence as a nation. That is intensifying this year with the loss of Sharon. Sharon was personally a very likeable person and I am sad to see him in this condition, but I think we need to look at the Bible and the Book of Joel. The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who “divide my land.” God considers this land to be His. You read the Bible and He says “this is my land” and for any Prime Minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says “no, this is mine.” I had a wonderful meeting with Yitzhak Rabin in 1974. He was tragically assassinated, it was a terrible thing that happened but nevertheless he was dead. And now Ariel Sharon who again was a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with, I prayed with him personally, but here he’s at the point of death. He was dividing God’s land and I would say woe unto any Prime Minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations, or the United States of America. God says “this land belongs to me. You’d better leave it alone.”

One-World Government

700 Club, 3-7-91

“As long as the United States runs it [the New World Order], and our President and Secretary of State control it, it’s not too bad. But ten years from now, the same New World Order in the hands of some New Age dictator, some anti-Christian, anti-Israel charismatic leader from some place, which is very possible, it would be very dangerous. It will be dangerous for Jews; it would be dangerous for Christians. And that’s the scenario I see down the road.”

The New World Order, 1992, p. 7

“A single thread runs from the White House to the State Department to the Council on Foreign Relations to the Trilateral Commission to the secret societies to the extreme New Agers. There must be a new world order. It must eliminate national sovereignty. There must be world government, a world police force, world courts, world banking and currency, and a world  elite in charge of it all. To some there must be a complete redistribution of wealth; to others there must be an elimination of Christianity; to some extreme New Agers there must be the deaths of two or three billion people in the Third World by the end of the decade.”

The New World Order, 1992, p. 37.

“Indeed, it may well be that men of goodwill like Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and George Bush, who sincerely want a larger community of nations living at peace in our world, are in reality unknowingly and unwittingly carrying out the mission and mouthing the phrases of a tightly knit cabal whose goal is nothing less than a new world order for the human race under the domination of Lucifer and his followers.”

700 Club, 5-9-95

“Every transaction will be instantaneously recorded. And of course everywhere you go, every time you buy gasoline, every time you get on an airplane, every trip, every purchase, everything will then be under the scrutiny of Big Brother. Does that sound frightening?…Assume a major natural disaster, a killer earthquake or a meteorite striking the earth. And suddenly the nations are faced with crisis, and they must move together for survival. And out of that comes a federation of nations, and then there comes a one-world government…The Bible says that those who take the ‘Mark of the Beast,’ who submit to this world system are one day going to find that they are in league with the enemy, and they’re opposed to God, because there will be more than merely buying and selling. It will have to do with religious faith and religious belief and worship of the central power.”

Other Religions

700 Club, 7-26-88

“…Ouija boards aren’t harmless. Ouija boards are often time-directed by demonic spirits. There are various types of chants. The so-called TM Mantras are actually prayers in Sanskrit to various Hindu Gods who are in turn demons, and you are saying something you don’t understand when in essence you are praying to a devil to come to you.”

700 Club, 9-11-89

“Hinduism and many of the occult activities that come out of the Orient are inspired by demons and demon worship…There’s this concept that all religions are the same and all are good. That is not true. The worship of the Devil is not good.”

700 Club, 1-7-91

“[W]hat is Hinduism but Devil worship, ultimately?”

700 Club, 1-14-91

“You say, ‘You’re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing.’ Nonsense. I don’t have to be nice to the spirit of the anti-Christ. I can love the people who hold false opinions, but I don’t have to be nice to them.”

700 Club, 10-27-97

To see Americans become followers of quote, Islam, is nothing short of insanity.  Terry, you know, I’ve been in Africa many, many, many, many times, and you see people over here learning Swahili, for example.  Swahili was the language of the slave traders.  The Islamic people, the Arabs, were the ones who captured Africans, put them in slavery, and sent them to America as slaves.  Why would people in America want to embrace the religion of the slavers, and the language of the slavers — that’s what Swahili is; it’s not a native African dialect.  You say ‘what’s going on in America, when we welcome into our society and give rights to people who are persecuting Christians around the world.’  It’s time we stood up against this and said ‘no more!’  We must demand the State Department do something in relation to the Sudan, in relation to the Palestinian Authority, in relation to Iran, in relation to Saudi Arabia and these other countries that are persecuting Christians.  We can’t let it happen.  And if we don’t let our voices be heard, it’s going to happen.  Now, I think we ought to pray, we should really pray.  And then we should do something as well as pray, and let our voices be heard.  Speak out wherever we are — we can’t be silent, look what happened in the Holocaust.  A whole race was close to extinction because we were silent.  We can’t be silent any longer.  If it’s them now, it’ll be us next.”

700 Club, 10-11-06

England has been a Christian country. They ought to stand up and say so. “We’re a Christian country. We’ll tolerate you, we’ll give you freedom, but we’re not going to let you take over our castle and take over our queen”—because that’s what the Muslims would like to do. They really would like to take England over. They almost had it with Jodi [Dodi] Fayed and Princess Diane [Diana]. They almost had somebody who would have converted to Islam if she had married a Muslim. Didn’t happen. She was tragically killed. But nevertheless, the Muslims would like to take over England, and I think our British cousins had better be alert to that. But having a prayer room for Ramadan in the middle of the castle? No. Way.

700 Club, 11-6-06

No.  They don’t have a relationship.  There is the god of the Bible, who is Jehovah.  When you see L-O-R-D in caps, that is the name.  It’s not Allah, it’s not Brahma, it’s not Shiva, it’s not Vishnu, it’s not Buddha.  It is Jehovah God.  They don’t have a relationship with him.  He is the God of all Gods.  These others are mostly demonic powers. Sure they’re demons.  There are many demons in the world.

700 Club, 3-20-07

“If the Christians don’t get involved—We’ve been harassed by People for the American Way, we have been harassed by Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, we have been harassed by the federal court system, but if the Christians won’t stand up and not worry about the IRS, not worry about whether you’re going to lose your tax exemption, not worry about whatever because you’re going to lose your country if Christians don’t mobilize and vote,” warned Robertson. He added that “The curse of God is to bring in people who don’t share your point of view and then ultimately destroy your civilization.  Well, that’s what we’re facing for our children and grandchildren.”

Public Education

 700 Club, 9-23-82

“It is absolutely impossible to have genuine education without the Holy Scripture.”

700 Club, 3-28-84 on why Head Start is unnecessary

“If you’re smart, you’ll catch up anyway.”

700 Club, 5-13-84

“The state is steadily attempting to do something that a few states other than the Soviets and the Nazis have attempted to do, namely, to take the children away from the parents and educate them in a philosophy that is amoral, anti-Christian and humanistic and to show them a collectivist philosophy that will ultimately lead to Marxism, socialism, and a communistic type of ideology.”

700 Club, 6-1-88

“Now what do the Christians do? They have to set up their own schools. They have to pay taxes for the one thing, then they have to go pay double for their own schools, no deductions, no tuition tax credits. That’s why we’re in favor of vouchers.”

700 Club, 4-23-91

“The public education movement has also been an anti-Christian movement….We can change education in America if you put Christian principles in and Christian pedagogy in. In three years, you would totally revolutionize education in America.”

700 Club, 8-4-93

“The concept is outcome-based. In other words, children do not get promoted in school unless they show the proper outcome, which has to do with their tolerance of homosexuals, of their belief toward minorities or their answers to certain politically correct activities. And part of the brainwashing is to move them away from traditional moral values and Christian routes. It’s an absolute abomination. But it merely accelerates the trend toward decline in our nation’s schools. The thought is instead of saying a child should have his mind stimulated and he should learn certain facts and he should learn reasoning skills, objective reality, the emphasis on education is to psychological and sociological manipulation of children to bring them into sort of homogenized children of this brave new world.”

700 Club, 9-27-93

“Satan has established certain strongholds…He has gone after education and has been very successful in capturing it.”

 A Religious Test For Office

700 Club, 1-11-85

Asked “you’re not saying that there are no other people qualified to be in government beside Christians and Jews?”  Robertson: “Yeah, I’m saying that I think anybody whose mind and heart is not controlled by God Almighty is not qualified in the ultimate to be the judge of someone else and I think judges should be in turn submitting to the judge of the universe.”

Pat Robertson, claiming a Pipeline to God

Letter to People For the American Way, 1981

“I want to warn you with all the solemnity of in the words of the old Negro spiritual, `You arms are too short to box with God.’ The suppression of the voice of God’s servant is a terrible thing! God alone will fight for me against you, and He will win!”

700 Club, 1-2-07

The other thing I felt was that evil men, evil people, are going to try to do evil things to us and to others during the last part of this year.  I don’t know if it’ll be in the fall or September or later on, but it’ll be the second half somehow of 2007.  There will be some very serious terrorist attacks.  The evil people will come after this country and there’s a possibility – not a possibility, a definite certainty – that chaos is going to rule.  And the Lord said the politicians will not have any solutions for it.  There’s just going to be chaos.  Of course, we saw chaos in the Gulf after Katrina and the politicians had no answers … It’s going to happen.  I’m not saying necessarily nuclear, the Lord didn’t say nuclear, but I do believe it’ll be something like that, that’ll be a mass killing – possibly millions of people, major cities injured.  I hope I’m wrong and I hope people will pray and that won’t happen, but nevertheless that seems to be what’s coming up.  And then the Lord said he will restrain the evil people, but he will not restrain them necessarily initially.  And, you know, He doesn’t have to restrain people.  They’re evil people and they do evil things and they desire evil.

700 Club, 1-3-07

I don’t want to be an alarmist, ladies and gentlemen, but there are evil people in the world who are targeting this great nation and they apparently possess some form of nuclear or biological weapons; the kind of weapons of mass destruction that could do devastating damage.  And from what I gather, their targets are New York, Washington, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, just for starters.  And I wasn’t listening to many of those cities being named by Eric in his report on preparedness.  If one of those devastating devices is loosed in one of our major cities, the Word that has come to me is chaos in our cities, there’s going to be chaos.  The government is not prepared.  We were down in Katrina, right after that terrible hurricane that hit the Gulf and the lack of preparedness was just appalling and we all said, I think everybody said, looking at what was done there, [if] you see a really serious man-made disaster, we’re not prepared.  If there’s ever a time to get with it, it’s now.  And more than anything, if there’s ever a time to pray, it’s now.

Sex Education

700 Club, 11-16-82

“[Teenage girls] have sex with their boy friends because they crave affection…They really just want to be cuddled and held and have somebody pay attention to them. And often the parents are out working. So they’ll give sex in order to get affection. But after the loss of virginity, the girl experiences guilt, sadness, shame, and regret, just like the Bible says.”

700 Club, 2-26-87

“[School children are] taught every kind of bizarre sex you can imagine. They’re being taught oral sex, they’re being taught anal sex, they’re being taught homosexual sex, they’re being taught sex with animals. All this with public taxpayer money, what’s being called value-free sex education.”

700 Club, 4-9-91

“What Planned Parenthood is doing is absolutely contrary to everything Christian. It is teaching kids to fornicate, teaching people to have adultery, teaching people to get involved in every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism — everything that the Bible condemns. And teaching us to be absolutely without moral restraint.”

South Africa

700 Club, 3-18-92

“I think `one man, one vote,’ just unrestricted democracy [in South Africa] would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority, which the white people respresent now.”

“I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover. If there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city. And don’t wonder why He hasn’t helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I’m not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that’s the case, don’t ask for His help because he might not be there.”

“You know, a wife needs to be submissive to her husband; this is one of the big problems that we’re having…It’s not just any longer the woman who wants to work, but the husbands are forcing wives out of the home. And it’s a big mistake, especially if they’re with children.”

“…[T]here’s a difference from birth. Now, the male mind thinks in certain attitudes…But the key in terms of mental — it has nothing to do with physical — is chess. There’s never been a woman grand master chess player. And if, you know, once you get one, then I’ll buy some of the feminism, but until that point…”

“…[A] great proportion of the children who have sex do so in the afternoon before their parents come home. So again, we are trading the security and integrity of our young people for the careers of many of the mothers in our society. That’s the price we pay for career-oriented mothers.”

“God intended men to be the high priest of their families. They are to be in touch with God and to be the one who’s the spiritual head. There is such a thing as headship. And I don’t care how much the feminists scream about it, the Bible says that Jesus is the head of the man, and the man, in turn, is the head of the family and the head of the wife.”

“Families that are organized along the feminist line break apart. There’s this constant turmoil and tension and fighting, and it leads to the wreckage of millions of lives.”

Fundraising Letter, 1992

“The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”

“As long as the husband is following the mandate of the Lord, the wife should submit to his leadership even though she may disagree with it. God’s standard is true. Yet in many marriages, the wife is more able than her husband. Regretfully a woman with great abilities sometimes marries a man who does not have much ability. This wife must resist the temptation to dominate her husband. Her husband will sometimes make decisions that the wife feels are wrong.  She must either gently persuade her husband or that pray that God will change her husband’s mind.  A woman has voluntarily surrendered a portion of her autonomy to her husband when she marries.”
