Last week, we wrote a post noting that “Dr. Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt had used a debunked story of high school runner who was supposedly disqualified from a race after thanking God as the topic of his one minute prayer update, as well as a segment on his “Pray In Jesus Name Show” in which he blamed the incident on demonic possession.
As we pointed out, the student in question and his family both acknowledged that the allegations that he had been disqualified for exercising his Christian faith were entirely false.
But that hasn’t prompted Klingenschmitt to remove the videos or ever correct the record. In fact, Klingenschmitt says he stands by the false claims and has even updated the description of his video to defend it:
We stand by the track story, which was originally confirmed by the parents as a “religious” gesture here: http://www.wfaa.com/home/205794321.html The fact the kid later (under tremendous pressure) declined to file charges does not mean the referee’s motive was not suspect and anti-religious. Pointing to God is an act of gratitude, not disrespect, and should not be punished as disrespectful.
The story Klingenschmitt cites was entirely debunked several days later … but Klingenschmitt says that he continues to “stand by” it even though everyone directly involved in it admits that it was false.
