American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer said yesterday that he wants to reach out to liberals and find common ground with them, and came up with a plan to treat Muslims like members of the Ku Klux Klan. He lamented that Muslims have a “zone of protection similar to the zone of protection that homosexual activists have, you can’t criticize them or they will come after you hammer and tongs,” even though Islam is driven by a “dark religious impulse.”
“It’s a cancer, it’s a toxin and yet here it is infiltrating our culture and you can’t criticize it,” Fischer said of Islam.
Then, Fischer made an appeal to liberals: “I would say to my friends on the left, whatever you think we ought to do to the KKK, that’s what we ought to do to Islam…. If you think we shouldn’t give building permits to the KKK to build some kind of convention center where they can have their conferences and their rallies, then fine, let’s not issue building permits for mosques for exactly the same reason.”
