On his radio program today, Glenn Beck declared that America still has a race problem because this nation never had any sort of reconciliation for its history of oppression of African Americans.
The civil rights movement was not enough because “we never reconciled” as a nation, Beck said, adding that we can’t just stop doing bad things and then move forward as if those things never happened.
“You have to reconcile and stop and say, ‘I am sorry for these things,'” Beck said, “ask for forgiveness of those you have hurt. The country never stopped and said, ‘Wow, that was wrong.’ Let’s reach back out and say, ‘Let me listen to you now’ and I’ll apologize, not for everything that I’ve done, but what you’re feeling is valid and I’m sorry for any role that any of us played. I didn’t play a role in that but I want to hear you out and the country needs to say, ‘I’m sorry for that.'”
Back in 2008, when the House of Representatives passed a resolution apologizing for slavery and Jim Crow, Beck mocked it on his radio show and called it an affront “to the principles of Christianity.”
