This weekend, nearly every major GOP presidential candidate, along with the top two Republicans in the House of Representatives, will speak at the Values Voter Summit, an annual gathering of the leaders of the movement to integrate fundamentalist Christianity and American politics.
The candidates – Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich – and the congressmen – House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor – will join a who’s who of the far Right at the event. The organizers of... MORE

Last month we noted that Rena Lindevaldsen, the attorney for Lisa Miller, had written a book all about Miller's saga ... or, at least most of it, since there is barely any mention of the fact that Miller ultimately kidnapped her daughter and fled the country, which is odd considering that Lindevaldsen is reportedly teaching young lawyers at Liberty University to recommend just this sort of "civil disobedience" to clients they believe are being ordered to violate "God's law."
The book itself was predictable and, frankly, rather dull but that didn't stop Mat Staver,... MORE

Arkansas State University student Abdullah Raslan penned a column for the school newspaper reflecting on the 9/11 attacks by strongly condemning violence and calling for interfaith reconciliation and understanding. “Living in the Bible Belt for the past three years and befriending many devoted Christians here on campus, I've learned that Islam and Christianity have a lot in common,” he wrote. “Both religions preach values and morals, stressing that violence is never the answer.”
But the anti-Muslim group ACT! for America has no interest in any form of interfaith... MORE

As we’ve been reporting, self-proclaimed prophet Cindy Jacobs has dedicated her show God Knows to discussing how lands are cursed by sins like abortion, adultery and homosexuality, calling on Christians to literally take control over the weather and reverse the curse. In the fourth part of the series, Jacobs claims that lands are cursed with violence because they were previously inhabited by Native Americans who “did blood sacrifice” and “were cannibals and they ate people.”
Fortunately, Jacobs maintains, Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s The Response prayer rally in... MORE

Michael Brown has been hard at work establishing himself among the Religious Right's cadre of militant anti-gay activists with the publication of his book "A Queer Thing Happened to America" and by writing pieces, published by the American Family Association's OneNewsNow, in which he asserts that "gay activism" was responsible for the brutal murder of 15 year-old openly gay eight grader Lawrence King in 2008:
After all, it is gay activists who constantly remind us that LGBT kids are bullied and even beaten up at school. They tell us how dangerous the school environment is... MORE

It is hard to imagine how Bryan Fischer can think that anyone would ever believe that all of the anti-gay rants he unleashes on an almost daily basis could be driven by anything other than bigotry ... but yesterday on his radio program he attempted to convince everyone that he is really motivated by love and that it is those who support gays who are the true bigots:
That’s the reason we oppose the normalization of homosexuality, it’s not because we don’t like homosexuals it’s because we love them. I mean listen to me, if you love people, if you care about people, if... MORE

The ACLJ pushes back against the reports that Jay Sekulow is making millions off the organization. Michele Bachmann loses two key campaign staffers. CWA's Penny Nance worries about incivility while asserting that "violence is nothing new for unions." There is just something hilarious about reading a piece on the AFA's OneNewsNow about how the Religious Right has an image problem caused by their over-the-top rhetoric. Case in point, the AFA's Bryan Fischer says Muslims should at least have the decency to hang their heads in shame on 9/11. Finally,... MORE
