Michael Bresciani of Renew America writes that the booing of an openly gay soldier at the GOP presidential candidate debate, and the ensuing silence of the Republican candidates, was justified because the crowd rightly holds “to the scriptural belief that homosexuality is a sin of perversion and the promulgation or promoting of it can make them guilty, culpable or complicit by association.”
He claims that President Obama was hypocritical for denouncing the jeerers because of the plight of Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, the birther army doctor who was convicted of disobeyed orders... MORE

Here at Right Wing Watch we have been tracking right-wing activist and radio show host Linda Harvey of Mission America, who without fail attacks gays and lesbians in irate, crude, virulent and bizarre outbursts. In fact, she denies that gays and lesbians even exist.
Yesterday on her radio show, Harvey had on as her guest Laurie Higgins of the ultraconservative Illinois Family Institute. Higgins and Harvey agreed that homosexuality is in fact a choice, and that “homosexual activists” are dishonestly covering up that fact. Harvey went on to chastise “evil bloggers” for... MORE

Only a few years ago Religious Right groups and Republicans were running as far as possible away from the Personhood Colorado campaign, the effort to pass an extreme anti-choice measure that was twice handily defeated by Colorado voters. Last year, the National Right to Life Committee, Americans United for Life, Colorado Citizens for Life all refused to back the Colorado personhood amendment, and the Colorado Eagle Forum called the personhood campaign a “disaster.”
But now, the Personhood Mississippi campaign –which is nearly identical to the Colorado effort – has... MORE

David Barton joined televangelist Kenneth Copeland last year for a video series called “Choose Life and The Blessing” where the two discussed how voters earn either God’s blessing or wrath depending on who they support. Barton and Copeland agreed that voting for candidates who support LGBT equality are asking for punishment from God, and also insisted that gay people simply do not exist because homosexuality is not innate.
Copeland grouped gays and lesbians with murderers and thieves, saying that God would never create people to be gay in the same way God would never create... MORE

Thanks to the presidential campaigns of Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann, there has been a lot of attention focused lately on dominion theology and its role within the Religious Right political movement.
This, in turn, has led to a number of pieces asserting that there is no such thing as "dominionism" and claiming that it is nothing more than a conspiracy-theory/scare-tactic dreamed up by the Left.
Our colleague Peter Montgomery addressed this effort to downplay dominionism in an excellent piece he wrote for Religion Dispatches yesterday, but Religious Right activists continue to... MORE
