Last week David Barton bought his patented brand of psuedo-history to the pulpit to the First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Georgia where he unveiled a new "fact" that we had never heard from him before. While discussing Black history, Barton asserted that Indiana's "Hoosier" nickname derived from itinerant Black preacher Harry Hoosier: Harry Hoosier was one of the great evangelists in the First Great Awakening ... but we never heard of Harry Hoosier. By the way, look at his last name. Does that last name seem familiar to anybody? Anybody recognize the name "Hoosier... MORE

Last week, Time's Amy Sullivan reported that dozens of Religious Right leaders gathered for "a conference call to discuss their dissatisfaction with the current GOP presidential field, and agreed that Rick Perry would be their preferred candidate if he entered the race." Brian Kaylor of EthicsDaily.com had reported on the same thing a few weeks back, noting that the effort was being organized by James Robison. Last Friday, Robison wrote a post on his blog in which explained that he had called these gatherings in September of 2010 and June of 2011 because "there is an insidious... MORE

In 2009, Janet Porter of Faith 2 Action organized a right-wing conference in St. Louis called "How To Take Back America" that was co-sponsored by the likes of WorldNetDaily, The American Family Association, Vision America, Liberty Counsel, and WallBuilders. The keynote speakers at the conference were Mike Huckabee and Rep. Michele Bachmann. The line-up at this conference was so radical that we put together a report on the participants which gave special attention to the truly fringe views espouse by Porter: It is probably impossible to overstate the extremism and lunacy... Earlier this week we wrote a post about Pastor Stephen Broden, one of the endorsers of Gov. Rick Perry's "The Response" prayer rally, asserting that the possibility of violently overthrowing the government must always remain on the table. Broden was just the latest in a long line of radical right-wing activists that have signed on to support Perry's rally, raising serious questions about just the sorts of people with whom Perry is aligning himself. And we can now add Timothy Johnson of the Fredrick Douglass Foundation to that list because, as Sarah Posner reported last year,... MORE

The Ohio State House finally voted on and passed Janet Porter’s “Heartbeat bill,” which would criminalize abortion in most cases. Conspicuously absent was a statement from the state’s leading anti-choice group, the Ohio Right to Life Society, which actually opposed the bill because it is blatantly unconstitutional. Now Porter’s prized legislation moves on to the Senate, and her group Faith2Action released a congratulatory statement: “For every battle weary pro-lifer who didn't see how children were going to be protected in our lifetime, come see what God... Ken Blackwell will not run for Senate in Ohio, thus rendering all of the crazy stuff we have collected about him useless. Thanks a lot. Today's winner for least surprising/most pointless statement: "Liberty Counsel Supports Israel’s Right to Exist." Bryan Fischer continues his nonsensical "hate crimes" crusade. Here is Cindy Jacobs laying out the importance of the Seven Mountains. FRC's Peter Sprigg tries to get us to believe that "the principal objection to homosexual 'marriage' has nothing to do with religion." Gov.... MORE
