While speaking today with Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council on his radio show Washington Watch, Congressman Duncan D. Hunter (R-CA) accused “the homosexual lobby” of pushing for a “military takeover by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community” at the expense of heterosexual soldiers. Hunter was one of the staunchest opponents of the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and told Tony Perkins that he predicted such a “takeover.” Perkins: Let’s talk about this issue here, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, we knew a lot of... Robert Jeffress’ criticism of the Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Mormon faiths has gained increasing attention since he endorsed and introduced Rick Perry at last week’s Values Voter Summit. Just as Jeffress disparages non-Protestant religions and the very concept of religious pluralism, he also has harsh words for gays and lesbians. In a sermon earlier this year called “What to Say to Those Who Are Gay,” Jeffress cited a study from the Netherlands to bolster his argument that gays are incapable of having long-term, monogamous relationships. As Jim Burroway notes... MORE

Today on Focal Point, the American Family Association's research director Ed Vitagliano told Bryan Fischer that gay men are naturally uncivilized. Vitagliano is no stranger to anti-gay rhetoric and even co-produced a film that starred an 'ex-gay' leader, who was later revealed to have been secretly having sex with other men. Vitagliano told Fischer that the reason "promiscuity in the male homosexual community" is rampant is because gay men can never be civilized if they don't marry women, as "there is no civilizing influence in their lives." Watch... MORE

Conservative columnist Monte Kuligowski wrote today in Renew America that the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell will help “sink the country” because God will stop protecting America “when the official position of the state is the thumbing of the nose at God.” “Americans once had the confidence that their divine protection was a strong, impenetrable fortress,” Kuligowski writes, “but now we might hope in vain for a cardboard box as the various storm clouds gather.” Continuing his anti-gay screed, Kuligowski mocked a Navy lieutenant for... On Countdown last night, Keith Olbermann named Pam Olsen, the co-chair of Rick Perry’s Presidency 5 leadership team, the “Worst Person in the World” for her claim that gay rights are responsible for natural disasters like fires, tornadoes and floods. Two minutes into the segment, Olbermann attempts to “review Ms. Olsen’s belief system and combine it on facts back here on Earth,” wondering why recent natural disasters have occurred in Texas and Olsen’s home state of Florida where gays and lesbians don’t have the right to marry. He also mentions... MORE

Frank Turek continues to claim that he keeps losing consulting jobs simply because of his opposition to marriage equality, without noting that he is a hard line anti-gay activist who closely works with ultraconservative groups like the Oak Initiative and the American Family Association. Turek says that his social beliefs have nothing to do with his role as a workplace “team-building” speaker, even though he offers stinging criticism of workplace diversity programs. While speaking with Janet Parshall on In The Market yesterday, Turek went on another anti-gay tirade after a caller... MORE

A few weeks we wrote a post noting that, at her core, Michele Bachmann was just a Religious Right activist who got elected to Congress and now hopes to become president. In that post, we compared Bachmann to fringe right-wing activist Janet Porter but it would probably have been more accurate to compare her to Phyllis Schlafly, as that is what Bachmann herself did on a recent "Tea Party Cyber-Town Hall and Webcast" where she lauded Schlafly as her heroine, mentor and everything that Bachmann hopes to be while also calling her the most important woman in the US in the...
