Leftovers

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/29/13

  • Peter LaBarbera claims the BSA’s “proposal opens the door to the sexual and spiritual corruption of boys.”
  • Lindsey Graham continues to be the biggest troll in the Senate.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/28/13

  • Maybe the media doesn't give more coverage to the March for Life because the same thing happens every year
  • Kevin McCullough says that allowing women to serve in combat is just the latest step in the "pansi-fication and weakening of our nation."
  • And Terri Stovall, dean of women's programs and associate professor of women's ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, says that letting women serve in combat distorts gender roles as established by God and "therefore distorts the picture of the Gospel."
  • Why Liberty Counsel insists on identifyng itself with violent right-wing movements is beyond us.
  • The World Congress of Families has named Janice Shaw Crouse its Natural Family Woman of the Year.
  • Finally, black anti-choice groups are going to protest the NAACP Image Awards becuase "Racist elitists no longer need the Ku Klux Klan to control blacks; they have Planned Parenthood. And Planned Parenthood has the NAACP on a leash."

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/25/13

  • The American Decency Association claims that criticism of “ex-terrorist” hoaxer Kamal Saleem is proof that he is telling the truth!
  • Kenneth Miller has been jailed due to his refusal to testify before a grand jury about his role in the Lisa Miller (no relation) kidnapping case
  • Both David Barton and Liberty Counsel are comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Fidel Castro and Idi Amin.
  • Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality is furious that President Obama sent a video message to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Creating Change conference.
  • Televangelist James Robison laments that marriage equality, abortion rights and the Obama presidency are removing “the hedge of God’s protection” from America and continued “rebellion will ultimately break us.”

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/24/13

  • The Christian conservative magazine WORLD notes that while abortion is illegal in South Korea, abortion rates there are “double the U.S. rate.” As we’ve said before, abortion rates tend to be higher in countries where it is criminalized.
  • Tomorrow, Rick Santorum, Rand Paul and Tony Perkins will speak at the March for Life [PDF], while Speaker John Boehner will send in a video message.
  • New Mexico Republicans want to prosecute rape survivors who terminate the pregnancy with a felony charge of “tampering with evidence.”
  • Concerned Women for America claims that feminism has left women “at the mercy of sexually liberated men.”

  • If you ever wanted to learn how to literally wrestle a demon and evade their “fiery darts,” here’s your chance.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/23/13

  • CBN's David Brody is very concerned that President Obama's agenda is too liberal and will end up putting "his legacy at risk."
  • Franklin Graham spoke at Liberty University earlier this week.
  • We find it a little hard to believe that the Rapid City, SD alderman who asked a local reporter "should we deport you back to Kenya with Obama?" didn't know the reporter was black.
  • Evangelist Tim Todd claims that there is growing opposition to homosexuality in Russia primarily because of what is happening in the US: "America is opening the floodgate -- and if you want to know what God thinks about the sin of homosexuality, you can look at his urban renewal development plan in Sodom and Gomorrah."
  • Finally, Gary Bauer says it is "almost unimaginable” to think that the GOP will some day support marriage equality.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/22/13

  • Erik Rush continues to demonstrate that he is completely unhinged.
  • Without a hint of irony, Matt Barber says he manages to remain optimistic by laughing at liberals: "I make fun of their dull-witted, self-defeating, abjectly wicked worldview."
  • Rick Santorum says President Obama is a "sore winner," which sounds like the sort of thing that a sore loser says.
  • Liberty Counsel does not like the new report from West Point analyzing the threat posed by "individuals and groups who self-identify with the far-right of American politics."
  • Bryan Fischer offers a "two-minute argument for natural marriage."
  • Finally, last night Glenn Beck held a "Misfit Ball" for all those who are "no longer welcome in Obama’s America," which featured the likes of Rick Santorum, David Barton, John Hagee, Ralph Reed, and many more.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/18/13

  • Glenn Beck has now grown very concerned about advancing technology, especially 3D printers which can allow people to manufacture guns right in their homes ... which seems very odd coming from someone who doesn't believe there should be any restrictions on the Second Amendment whatsoever.
  • Institute for Religion and Democracy President Mark Tooley compares efforts to promote gun control to Prohibition.
  • Bradlee Dean suspects a connection between psychotropic drugs and mass shootings ... namely that the former are causing the latter.
  • It is always entertaining when anti-choice zealots target other anti-choice zealots for not being zealous enough.
  • Similarly, it is fun to watch right-wing anti-immigration activists attack conservative "evangelical elites" for daring to support immigration reform.
  • Finally, have you always wanted to travel to Israel with Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver?  Don't miss your chance.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/17/13

  • Gov. Rick Perry sends a shiver down Bryan Fischer's spine.
  • Gun control is the real war on women!

  • Finally, this "Stop The Witch Hunt Against Rep. Bachmann" effort might just be the most amazingly hypocritical thing we have ever seen.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/16/13

  • Janet Porter celebrates the ten year anniversary of her Faith2Action organization with the most boring video imaginable.
  • "Molotov" Mitchell explains to Glenn Beck that he is a pretty big deal which is why Beck needs to change the name of his forthcoming news program to something besides "For The Record," because that is the name Mitchell has been using.
  • Bryan Fischer says he will henceforth only refer to "assault rifles" as "sporting rifles."
  • James O'Keefe is so very, very courageous.
  • FRC says that Louie Giglio's withdrawal is an example of government persecution and prays that it will end: "Just as we were warned, neither tolerance, nor safety were the aim of activists, but a silenced pulpit and silenced Church ... May God's people arise to pray and effectively withstand government persecution over Biblical beliefs about homosexuality!"
  • Finally, just how utterly delusional is Glenn Beck?  While discussing Sandy Hook Truthers and the like, he warned that conspiracy theorists are dangerous and cannot be trusted!

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/15/13

  • Oh good, James Dobson's "relentlessly-paced, faith-based, dystopian thriller" is now available for sale.
  • Who wants to watch Scott Stapp of Creed on "Life Today" with James Robison?  Anyone?
  • The Evangelical Immigration Table has launched a 40 day prayer effort in support of immigration reform.
  • We can now add Rep. John Flemming (R-LA) to the list of Republican members of Congress who have no qualms about appearing on Bryan Fischer's radio program.
  • Speaking of Fischer, he has penned a long "Open Letter to Louis Giglio" calling on his to stand by his anti-gay sermon while Peter Sprigg says that what is happening regarding Giglio is "downright Orwellian."
  • On the same topic, Janice Shaw Crouse claims that "the Obama administration has thrown down a gauntlet, declaring that anyone who espouses historic, biblical Christian teaching will be prohibited from participation in events in the public square."
  • Finally, there is honestly no way to coherently summarize this clip of Glenn Beck in which he wildly speculates about how Obamacare will destroy the Second Amendment and force people to euthanize their parents while turning doctors into tools of the Nazi state:

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/14/13

  • Buster Wilson has had an epiphany: "[T]he progressive left just doesn’t care! They absolutely do not care about the facts, they don’t care about the truth, and they certainly do NOT care about what God or the Bible has to say about this! ... They want dominance. They want special privileges. They want special protections."
  • We have no idea that GOPround actually does ... but now they are spreading their efforts to the states.
  • James Dobson and John Hagee, together at last.
  • Peter LaBarbera says "the homosexual movement corrupts our country."
  • Finally, Bryan Fischer lectures Colin Powell, insisting that the GOP is not racist because the party abolished slavery and passed civil rights legislation.  Of course, that was a long time ago ... but they did also have Allen West in Congress for one term.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/11/13

  • Roy Moore was sworn in as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court today, nine years after being removed from that very position for refusing to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse.

  • Bill Donohue says that "given [President] Obama’s ideology, perhaps it would make more sense for him to swear on Das Kapital" at his inauguration.
  • Is Mark Sanford really contemplating a run for Congress?
  • Finally, Glenn Beck and crew mock Alex Jones for crying and believing in crazy conspiracy theories.  Seriously:

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/10/13

  • The Family Research Council says Pastor Louie Guglio's decision to withdraw from President Obama's inauguration is "another example of intolerance from the Obama administration toward those who hold to biblical views on sexuality" while Al Mohler calls it "moral McCarthyism."
  • TVC's Andrea Lafferty says Chuck Hagel was right to oppose James Hormel's nomination back in 1998 because she "went to the Hormel library in San Francisco and spent three days there bringing forth all of this filth and disgusting stuff that was in this man's library."
  • The level of Glenn Beck's delusion is pretty remarkable as he is now vowing to completely overhaul the world of advertising ... because apparently all the companies that have spent billions of dollars on it over the last fifty years simply have no idea what they are doing.
  • FRC prays that God will "intervene now to prevent the destruction of marriage in our nation and with it, our nation's future" by swaying the Supreme Court justices.
  • Why is Rep. Michele Bachmann refusing to pay those who worked on her presidential campaign?

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/9/13

  • Dick Armey claims he mistakenly granted an interview to Media Matters regarding the debacle at FreedomWorks because his thought he was talking to the conservative Media Research Center.
  • Apparently releasing the names of priests who molested children will turn into a "witch hunt [that] would negatively impact the church as a whole."
  • Finally, in March, Tim Tebow will speak at Liberty University's Convocation.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/8/13

  • Randy Thomasson says "Adolf Hitler and his henchmen would be proud" of California.
  • Peter LaBarbera has twenty resolutions for anti-gay activists in 2013.
  • Tim Wildmon is "not so sure that President Obama is not intentionally trying to bankrupt the United States of America."
  • Finally, Bryan Fischer bravely engages in a hypothetical conversation with a straw man:

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/7/13

  • WorldNetDaily has really outdone itself by attacking Neil Patrick Harris for starring in an ad for the Super Bowl…which must mean he is mocking Tim Tebow and pushing the “gay agenda”!
  • Absolutely stunned that Fox News deceptively edited a speech by President Obama to attack him on gun policy.
  • Just a mere eight percent of Americans identify as Tea Party members, but that won’t stop Tea Party groups and politicians from claiming they speak for the majority of Americans.
  • Gary Bauer says Chuck Hagel’s nomination as Defense Secretary proves “Obama is a leftist ideologue whose economic policies are socialistic and whose foreign policies are weak and pro-Islamism.”
  • Robert Knight writes in the Washington Times that Democrats have an “obsession with alternative states of ecstasy, extreme environmentalism, perverse sex, big government and confiscatory taxes.”

  • Ryan was also among the 67 Republicans to oppose a bill providing $9.7 billion in Sandy relief, which the House passed after the GOP leadership withdrew a much more substantial aid package.
  • Apparently, conservatives are shocked and dismayed that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would dare to criticize House Republicans for pulling the plug on the Sandy aid bill.
  • National Organization for Marriage founder Maggie Gallagher has ended her column after seventeen years.

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/3/13

  • Rick Joyer warns that "Obama has demonstrated the kind of leadership that is the foundation of tyranny" and declares that "if what is being done to us is found to have been intentional by Obama, others in our government, the Federal Reserve, or anyone one else, it is the highest form of treason."

  • The National Organization for Marriage is vowing "to form an Illinois state PAC and spend $250,000 defeating Republican legislators who vote in support of same-sex 'marriage' in Illinois."
  • Finally, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach may be our new hero, thanks to this highly-entertaining debate he had today with Bryan Fischer:

Right Wing Leftovers - 1/2/13

  • We're sure the Religious Right will be up in arms over reports that House Speaker John Boehner told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to "go f— yourself!"
  • Wiley Drake is starting an "imprecatory prayer meeting to be held each Wednesday."
  • WND names Michele Bachmann its "Woman of the Year."
  • Scott Lively's "Top 10 Heroes" of 2012 offers a pretty solid list of the most vehemently anti-gay activists operating today.
  • Rick Green cannot believe what is happening to America: "Over the last two months, we've seen an un-informed, Constitutionally ignorant part of our country re-elect a President who glorifies everything that is wrong with America today."
  • Finally, it seems that Liberty Counsel is now in the business of producing rap videos:

Right Wing Leftovers - 12/21/12

  • Despite the fact that it is 2012, WND has named Ron Paul it's "Man of the Decade." What decade?  2002-2012? Who hands out awards like that?
  • Sadly the Birther chairman of the Arizona Republican Party says he won’t seek reelection.
  • Obviously, it was Satan who carried out the attack on Sandy Hook.
  • The Christian Film & Television Commission is demanding that the MPAA change the rating of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" from R to NC-17.
  • Finally, judging by the emails we've been receiving from Religious Right groups lately, they have bought into the Obama campaign's findings that emails with a "casual tone was usually most effective," because we're pretty sure that L. Brent Bozell does not normally sent out emails titled "Yo":

Erik Rush is not backing down from the controversy he set off yesterday, declaring that "this army of dhimmi idiots reeeeally isn't doing much to convince me I was wrong about anything here..." Pat Buchanan says that civil disobedience may be the only option if the Supreme Court rules in favor of marriage equality. If someone was booted from their band like this for opposing gay marriage, the Religious Right would be railing about it for weeks. Rick Joyner warns that "without another Great Awakening, we will not survive as a Republic much longer."... MORE

Richard Land is set to become the president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, where he intends to "produce an ever increasing number of graduates who will be the green berets and paratroopers of God’s army." Gordon Klingenschmitt explains that Margaret Thatcher was a Christian because she supported capitalism, just like Jesus. Tucker Carlson says he is a Christian and an Episcopalian "but I truly despise the Episcopal Church in a lot of ways." FRC prays that God will protect us from North Korea: "God, please intervene! Our brazen sins make us... MORE

Fox News reports that "at least a dozen members of Congress have signed a letter demanding the Secretary of the Army rescind and apologize for a briefing that labeled Evangelical Christians and Catholics as religious extremist groups." Jim Graves, who barely lost to Rep. Michele Bachmann last time around, will be launching another campaign to face her again in 2014. Ken Hutcherson says "progressives on the left side of the debate have an agenda, and it's the same one Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin had." James Dobson grieves "over what Obama and the... MORE

It looks like the Religious Right is threatening to leave the GOP ... again. Happy Anniversary, David Barton. Sen. Rand Paul says America needs a “spiritual cleansing of the people.”  If we were like the Religious Right, we'd freak out because that kind of sounds like "ethnic cleansing" and start warning that Paul wants to kill all non-Christians. Apparently Rush Limbaugh thinks "the onus is on the black population" to realize the GOP is not racist. Finally, Rick Scarborough says "the goal of Obamacare has always been to drive... MORE

Rick Santorum says "it would be suicidal" for the Republican Party to accept marriage equality. Melissa Harris-Perry responds to the right-wing freakout over her MSNBC promo. Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, responds to news that Sen. Bob Casey Jr. now supports gay marriage by saying that "if Bob Casey, Sr. was still alive, he would be extremely disappointed in his son." Judging by the fact that its website is now defunct, we are guessing that the Newt Gingrich-founded and Jim Garlow-led Renewing American... MORE

Anti-gay/anti-Mormon pastor Pastor Robert Jeffress opened a new $130 million campus at his church and Gov. Rick Perry was on hand to dedicate it. Glenn Beck returned from a week off today and guess what he talked about? This is actually an article from CNSNews: "Obama Responded Faster to Ebert's Death Than He Did to Thatcher's." We predict that this story about the Army supposedly calling evangelicals a threat is one of those things that we initially dismiss as obvious nonsense, but then end up having to write about because the Religious Right goes nuts over... Kyle Mantyla, Thursday 04/04/2013, 5:31pm
It is pretty entertaining to see the Religious Right ripping Bill O'Reilly for his arrogance and ignorance, especially since they only seem to have discovered it once he upset them. Case in point, Bill Keller has issued a $10,000 challenge to O'Reilly to debate him. To hear Mat Staver and Matt Barber describe it, The Awakening Conference is just about the most important thing ever. Speaking of Staver, he received the Faith Community Leader of the Year Award at the Weyrich Awards Dinner, which is a good reminder that radical Religious Right anti-gay voices are regularly... MORE
