Leftovers

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 5/29/14

  • Glenn Beck, David Barton, Michelle Malkin and other anti-Common Core activists will participate in a live event that will air in movie theaters throughout the country this summer called "We Will Not Conform."
  • Speaking of Beck, he has spent all week blaming Elliot Rodger's murder spree on video games, so logically he'll blame the murder of this two year-old girl on the Bible, right?
  • Predictably, David and Jason Benham have now become full-fledged Religious Right stars and have been given a speaking slot at Ralph Reed's upcoming Faith and Freedom Coalition conference.
  • Mat Staver reiterates his demand that Congress impeach President Obama: "Our Constitution and precious liberties are under full-scale assault by Barack Obama and his leftist administration. Patriotic Americans must refuse to stand silently by while leftists take our nation apart, plank by plank We MUST perform our duty as Americans to free ourselves of this tyranny."
  • Finally, Tea Party Nation has a message for the GOP: "America is waiting for you to prove you are patriots, not eunuchs."

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 5/28/14

  • Mike Huckabee will not be speaking at the North Carolina Republican Party's convention next month because organizers could not come up with the $15,000 speaking fee he charges.
  • Matt Moore wants to make it clear that he really, truly, genuinely loves gays before telling them they are bound for Hell.
  • Bryan Fischer continues to insist that the Bible prohibits slavery and requires that those who practice it are to be put to death.  Someone should ask him if that means that he believes Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and other slave-owning Founding Fathers should have been punished accordingly.
  • The WNBA is marketing itself to LGBT fans and Peter LaBarbera is not happy: "I think that the sad thing here is there are a lot of Christian women who like the WNBA. They play basketball, they want to go to games, but now [if they continue to do that] they will be effectively subsidizing an organization which is rewarding sin."
  • Finally, this one line perfectly sums up Glenn Beck's entire worldview: "I don’t know how to make anything make sense."

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 5/27/14

  • Allen West just so happened to be seated next to someone on a plane who knew the "ground truth" about what really happened in Benghazi and he told him all about it!
  • Whenever something that the Religious Right supports gets banned from Facebook for violating hate speech standards, they throw a fit and scream "persecution."
  • Todd Starnes is unafraid to ask the hard questions: "Does Google Hate America?"
  • Michael Peroutka donated a dinosaur skeleton worth over a million dollars to the Creation Museum.
  • Finally, "Duck Dynasty's" Phil Robertson will address the Republican Leadership Conference on Thursday, presumably because the GOP is intent on constantly solidifying its reputation as the party of choice for people who don't like gays.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/23/14

  • Mike Huckabee will be the featured speaker at the March for Marriage in Washington, D.C. next month.
  • FRC praises the RNC for announcing that the 2016 convention will not be held in Las Vegas.
  • We are pretty sure that Glenn Beck would not be so nonchalant if Amazon decided that it would not sell his books.
  • Bryan Fischer believes that Russell Moore has "been scared straight" after he criticized right-wing Christian radio.
  • Finally, Robert Gagnon has written an open letter to Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett calling upon him to appeal the recent ruling striking down the state's gay marriage ban: "[I]t is absurd to regard a person of the same sex as one’s anatomical, physiological, and psychological counterpart or sexual complement. Becoming sexually aroused by what one already is as a gendered being, as though one were only half one’s own sex rather than half of a whole sexual spectrum containing two sexes, is obviously contrary to nature and a self-dishonoring impulse."

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/22/14

  • Erik Rush insists that all of his conspiracy theories are not conspiracy theories at all because these conspiracies are all real!
  • A very intriguing headline: "Exotic Dancer Finds Freedom From Demonic Attacks."
  • Liberty Counsel is excited by arguments that atheism/humanism is a religion because it might lead to allowing the teaching of creationism in public schools.
  • Did you know that political correctness is a form of hate? Now you do.
  • Finally, Bryan Fischer says that our culture is like the World Trade Center and right-wing pastors are the courageous first responders who ran in to try and put out the fire.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/21/14

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/20/14

  • Pennsylvania's anti-gay marriage amendment has been struck down, which must be exceptionally painful for Rick Santorum.
  • Mat Staver says "America needs to invite God back into public schools."
  • "We are going to make history": Matt Bevin assures Glenn Beck that he will win his race against Sen. Mitch McConnell tonight.
  • We can now add Steve Deace to the right-wing Christian radio hosts who are mad at Russell Moore for not being impressed by right-wing Christian radio hosts.
  • Finally, Liberty University vice president Johnnie Moore says that "many conservative evangelical leaders who are closer to [Glenn] Beck than me have told me that they believe Beck has had a born again experience recently."

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/19/14

  • Oregon has become the latest state to see its anti-gay marriage amendment struck down.
  • A smart take from Jeff Crouere: "It seems the politically correct liberals in charge of the NFL are admirers of communism. In Red China, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries communist tyrants forced citizens into re-education camps to 'enlighten' their subjects about the wonderful 'benefits' of totalitarianism."
  • The Maine Ethics Commission is considering whether to fine the National Organization for Marriage $50,000 "for failing to register and disclose its activities in Maine’s 2009 same-sex marriage referendum."
  • NOM, for its part, announced that it would fight against any possible fine.
  • Finally, the AFA's Tim Wildmon invited Allen West to be a guest on his radio show and then completely forget why he had invited him on and what he wanted to talk about.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/16/14

  • Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief in Michigan’s marriage equality case, insisting that “it would be rational for the voters of Michigan to seek to minimize the deleterious effects” of “homosexual activity.”
  • The editor of Matt Barber’s website shows his “overwhelming love” for gay people by explaining that homosexuality “is destroying your life.”

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/15/14

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/14/14

  • Bryan Fischer is personally outraged by the decision striking down Idaho's anti-gay marriage amendment because he was deeply involved in writing the amendment.
  • FRC was likewise outraged by the decision: "The definition of marriage, like the sanctity of human life, is seen in the natural or moral law. The decisions of courts can ignore it, they can even attempt to suppress it, but they will never eradicate it."
  • Laurie Higgins is upset by seeing Michael Sam kiss his boyfriend and the "cultural degradation" that it represents.
  • The effort to place another "personhood" amendment on the ballot in Mississippi looks to be about to miss the deadline which will save organizers the embarrassment of having to watch it get trounced at the polls, just as it was in 2011.
  • Finally, the folks at the Media Research Center spent an entire day monitoring the content on The Huffington Post and were not happy with what they saw.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/13/14

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/12/14

  • After being dumped by HGTV, the Benham brothers has reportedly had their reality show picked up by INSP TV.
  • Liberty Counsel and Voice of the Voiceless are pushing ex-gay materials on colleges in Virginia.
  • Peter LaBarbera is threatening to sue Salon.com for libel.
  • Frank Turek says the push for marriage equality is "stealing rights from God."
  • Finally, Stu Burguiere claims that we intentionally misrepresented Glenn Beck's recent comments about Hillary Clinton because we "hate Glenn," even though we fully explained the context in the post in which the video was used. But if Burguiere is genuinely concerned about people taking things out of context, he ought to discuss that with his boss.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/9/14

  • Why is Glenn Beck's network reporting about Malala Yousafzai? We thought it was laughable to even expect people to know or care who she was.
  • This weekend, the Alaska Family Council will seek to explain how Christians can responsibly and gracefully engage a culture that has embraced homosexuality.
  • The American Family Association is calling upon cities in Mississippi to stop adopting anti-discrimination ordinances.
  • Gov. Bobby Jindal is scheduled to speak at Liberty University's graduation ceremony tomorrow where he will bravely criticize HGTV for canceling the Benham brothers' reality show.
  • On a related note, Tony Perkins responded to the Benham controversy by saying that "Right Wing Watch is about as reliable as the Obamacare website," which is actually kind of funny but also a totally false attack since everything we wrote about them was documented and true.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/8/14

  • Matt Barber's very credible website BarbWire has learned from an equally credible "inside" source that "Allen B. West is seriously considering a 2016 presidential run." We very much hope that this is true.
  • Speaking of Barber, he says that we are an "anti-Christian segregationist organization that exist for the sole purpose of segregating Christians and Christianity from any public forum." We are pretty sure that is not true.
  • Samuel Rodriguez says that Oklahoma's recent botched execution ought to be generating an outcry of evangelical Christians.
  • Representatives of The American Family Association, Focus on the Family, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, and Morality in Media all recently met with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler to voice their concerns about plans to "relax broadcast decency rules."
  • FRC prays: "May religious liberty flourish; may we use that liberty to pray and proclaim the Gospel as never before; and May awakening result that will turn the tide in our nation. May the local jurisdictions that have caved-in to the anti-prayer forces rethink and re-establish regular public prayer for their cities, counties and states."
  • Finally, Rep. Louie Gohmert grilled Comcast Executive Vice President David Cohen today during a hearing about why his network refuses to carry Glenn Beck's The Blaze network.  Can you imagine the fit that Beck would throw if a member of Congress lobbied a cable executive on behalf of some other network like this? His head would explode.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/7/14

  • Glenn Beck says that he has never been as infatuated by a candidate as he is by Matt Bevin because "he is a remarkable, remarkable man."
  • Speaking of Beck, he thinks that House Speaker John Boehner selected Rep. Trey Gowdy to lead the Benghazi committee so that he can thrown him under the bus when the whole thing backfires.
  • The hatemongering, anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church continues to lose members.
  • John Freshwater, the right-wing public school science teacher who lost his job for teaching creationism, is taking his case to the Supreme Court.
  • Finally, Jim Garrow is fed up with "the divine right of black folks with big government checks."

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/6/14

  • Rob Schenck of Faith and Action calls upon Sarah Palin to retract her comments about waterboarding: "I admonish you in the name of the Lord to retract your comments about waterboarding and baptism and clarify what you were doing and trying to say."
  • Glenn Beck has released a new book about Common Core and he is telling people to buy a copy and rip the cover off and give it to their friends who will refuse to read it if they know that Beck wrote it.
  • Speaking of Common Core, a respected Republican pollster is warning candidates not to run for office by opposing it.
  • Tony Perkins says "one look at the headlines and we can all agree: If there's one thing this country could use more of, it's prayer!" I am pretty sure that we don't all agree on that.
  • Phyllis Schlafly seems to think that the short-term Democrat strategy is to get the unmarried women to vote while the long-term strategy is to push policies what will increase the population of unmarried women.
  • Finally, you can't argue with Bryan Fischer's logic: "The death penalty for cold-blooded murder was right in the days of Noah and it is right today."

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/5/14

  • Kirk Cameron has a starring role in Alliance Defending Freedom’s new infomercial.

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/2/14

  • Laura Ingraham and the Federation for American Immigration Reform are demanding candidates for Congress sign a pledge that they will oppose immigration reform.
  • Quote of the day courtesy of Jeff Allen of BarbWire: “Welcome to the nightmare world of the Fourth Reich of homofascism.”

Right Wing Leftovers - 5/1/14

  • Al Mohler explains "why Christians should support the death penalty."
  • Franklin Graham declares that "true followers of Jesus Christ, whose salvation is based entirely upon God’s Word, cannot endorse same-sex marriage, regardless of what our president, the Congress, the Supreme Court, the media or the latest Gallup poll says about the matter."
  • In the last few weeks, an anti-Common Core group in Alabama has received $700,000 from just one foundation, both of which just happen to be run the same person.
  • It is always fascinating to watch Glenn Beck try to comprehend the fact that not every person in America shares his personal views and preferences.
  • Finally, this might be the dumbest thing you will read about the Donald Sterling controversy: "When you talk about Jay-Z, this criminal thug who's called black women all kinds of names, disgraced our race. And nobody is talking about kicking him out of the league? You can't have double standards I'm sorry."

Glenn Beck had a busy weekend, meeting with the Archbishop of Los Angeles as well as Joel Osteen. Religious Right leaders are apparently very worried that none of the possible GOP presidential contenders adequately represent their radical agenda, with the exception of Ben Carson. If we are to believe OneNewsNow, the White House has directly ordered every government facility not to allow televisions to show Fox News: "It's a directive straight from the White House." Larry Tomczak is not a fan of popular culture. Finally, Matt Barber has responded to an article... MORE

Glenn Beck is very concerned that the plot of the forthcoming game "Battlefield: Hardline" is designed to discredit the Tea Party. Bradlee Dean warns that "Reason is faith’s greatest enemy, and when you walk by reason you make faith obsolete!" The prophet Chuck Pierce has issued a new prophetic message: "The confrontation of the enemy is at hand. You must be filled with praise to enter into that conflict ahead. War is stirring in your midst. War is rising." Disgraced for FBI agent John Guandolo says radical Islam must be crushed: "What... MORE

Bryan Fischer has a simple solution to the crisis in Iraq: just kill the leader of ISIS. Gee, why didn't anybody ever think of that before? Once again, FRC prays against gay marriage: "Pray that each member of the 6th Circuit Court will uphold voters in these states, their constitutional amendments, the natural law and the Law of God when they rule. When this matter reaches them, may the U.S. Supreme Court reject the idea that a right to same-sex marriage can be found in the U.S. Constitution and that it overrides the will of the people." Laurie Higgins warns against... MORE

Tony Perkins, Rick Scarborough, Mike Huckabee, Sen. Ted Cruz, and the Benham Brothers will all be teaming up for a "Star Spangled Sunday" event on September 14. Jennifer LeClaire has a warning: "Satan's army is highly organized and his human followers are rallying the troops. Satanists are actively working to get monuments erected to the false god they serve even while others kill in his name. The prince of the power of the air is no longer willing to work behind the scenes in our media. He wants a place of prominence in our culture." According to Gordon... MORE

Tony Perkins is furious that the National Republican Congressional Committee is supporting three gay Republican candidates. Speaking of Perkins, he, Anne Graham Lotz, Richard Land, and others will be heading to Israel next week as part of a "Christians in Solidarity with Israel" trip being sponsored by the National Religious Broadcasters. Allen West headlined last night's Family-PAC fundraiser (the AFA's Sandy Rios is the PAC's VP.) It is nice to see other right wing "historians" mindlessly repeating David Barton's nonsense: "In fact,... MORE

Cindy Jacobs' United States Reformation Prayer Network is launching a "21-day intercessory initiative" to stop corruption in America. Matt Barber claims that he is now wanted for hate crimes in Canada. If you were thinking that Jonathan Cahn's prophetic "Harbinger" warnings couldn't get any more ridiculous, you were wrong. Ralph Reed tells Gordon Klingenschmitt that his Faith and Freedom Coalition will be bigger than the Christian Coalition in its heyday and is currently signing up a thousand new members a day. A good question: "Is... MORE

Rand Paul is working to win the support of conservative pastors in Iowa.  Scandal-tarred congressman Scott DesJarlais has declared victory in his extremely tight GOP primary race.  Republican-aligned groups failed in their effort to remove three Tennessee Supreme Court justices from the bench. Concerned Women for America laments that more and more courts have found “that a fundamental right to marry encompasses the right to same-sex ‘marriage.’”  Mark Biltz sees a message in the blood moons: “All these signs, coming...
