Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council has joined American Family Association’s Buster Wilson in linking the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell to the military’s suicide rate. Discussing the Pentagon’s new policy on allowing women to serve in combat units yesterday on his radio program, Perkins said that the Obama administration’s work in “driving Christianity out [and] putting homosexuality in” are “adding additional stress” that leads to a higher rate of suicide. Perkins cited no evidence to back up his claim, but as with his... MORE

Former military chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt is citing an article by fellow anti-gay activist Ron Crews to warn that the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell has led to the “persecution” of Christians in the military. “Christian troops endure open homosexual harassment,” Klingenschmitt writes in his latest email to members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project, “Sexual harrassment [sic] is banned in the military, unless you're a homosexual abusing a Christian, then it's openly encouraged.” Klingenschmitt also argued that soldiers should be able... Ron Crews of the Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberty likes to conceal his over the top rhetoric about gays and lesbians serving openly in the military by claiming that he simply wants to defend the freedom of chaplains to oppose same-sex marriage, which he claims is under attack. During his appearance on the Janet Parshall’s radio show In The Market yesterday, however, Crews continued to simply make anti-gay statements without making a serious case as to how the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’s repeal has jeopardized the military’s standing or the rights of chaplains... Desperate Religious Right Activists Say Military is Endangered by Having Service Members Share Barracks with Gay Soldiers

Ron Crews, the executive director of the Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberty and a former Republican politician, appeared alongside Family Research Council president Tony Perkins today on Washington Watch Weekly to push back against reports showing that only a small number of chaplains say they have been negatively impacted by the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. While the Religious Right’s prediction that the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell would have catastrophic consequences on the military and national security contradicts nearly all of the evidence, Crews... Yesterday, AFA's Buster Wilson lamented the news there has been a rise in suicides this year among members of the Armed Services and wondered if maybe, just maybe, the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell might have had something to do with it: MORE

Last week we reported that James Dobson hosted Elaine Donnelly where she roundly criticized rights for women and gay service members, and on the following program the two anti-gay activists went after the Obama administration for potentially allowing service members’ same-sex spouses to collect housing, education and health benefits. Currently, the military is prohibited from providing such benefits under the Defense of Marriage Act. After Dobson read a statement from Congressman Todd Akin attacking President Obama for his “appalling” attempt to “use the military... MORE
Donnelly: 'The Civil Rights Movement is being Co-Opted by the Advocates of Diversity, by Advocates of the LGBT Equality Group'

Elaine Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness talked to James Dobson today on Family Talk about the expansion of the roles of women service members and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, which they warned will have horrific ramifications. Donnelly, who has warned that allowing women in combat roles and gays to serve openly will lead to the military’s downfall, told Dobson that the culture of the military is in grave jeopardy due to the “process of diversifying and imposing LGBT agendas,” maintaining that “the civil rights movement is being co-opted...
