In his daily email to members yesterday, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins doubled down on his totally unfounded claim that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell led to a spike in sexual assaults in the military.
Perkins writes that “most” servicemembers have become “victims -- not just of assault, but of this new sexually-charged environment,” adding, absurdly, that when Congress repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell it “made sexual attraction a qualification for military service -- on par with academic performance, community service... In his daily email yesterday, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins expressed concern about the rising rate of reported sexual assault in the military….which he blamed on the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell:
President Obama is finally admitting that sexual assault is a serious problem in the military--but what he hasn't conceded is that his policy on homosexuality helped create it. According to a new Pentagon survey, most of the victims were not female (12,000 incidents), but male (14,000)--highlighting a growing trend of same-sex assault in our ranks.... MORE

While Congress debated the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council predicted that the military will see an uptick in sexual assault cases and a decline in enlistment, leading to the reinstatement of the draft. Perkins even said that congressional leaders who pushed the policy’s repeal have the “blood of young Marines on their hands.”
However, the FRC’s inflammatory warnings about the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell have not been realized.
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey on May 10... MORE

Yesterday Janet Mefferd hosted Family Research Council president Tony Perkins where they spent most of the time lamenting the inevitable nomination of Mitt Romney, as Mefferd was troubled by Romney’s past (but since renounced) support of gay rights. But the two agreed that Obama’s advocacy for equal rights for gays and lesbians is far more disconcerting and Perkins even tied last year’s repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell to the scandal involving Secret Service agents who solicited prostitutes in Colombia. While prostitution is legal in the country, their use of... MORE

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins today appeared on the American Family Association’s Financial Issues with Dan Celia, where he said that President Obama’s eventual Republican opponent must try to “dial back the decay” in the culture. Perkins, who has claimed in the past that Obama has a “disdain for Christianity” and demanded Christian supporters of the president “repent,” said that the administration has pushed “anti-family, anti-religious, anti-Christian policies,” most notably the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’... Anti-gay author Michael Brown spoke today at the Family Research Council event, “Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace.” His speech included the standard right-wing attacks against equal rights for the LGBT community as well as many plugs for his book, A Queer Thing Happened to America. Most of the speech focused on bemoaning the political gains made by gay rights advocates and growing societal acceptance for gay lesbian and transgender people. Brown even warned that the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell made the military into a “massive pro-gay propaganda... MORE

Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality joined Janet Mefferd yesterday for an hour of attacking LGBT rights and urgently praying for gays and lesbians to be freed from Satan’s captivity. Mefferd dedicated to help “set LGBT people free from the sin and the bondage that The Enemy has them in” and prayed that gays receive her message so they don’t end up in Hell, which she called a reflection of her love for LGBT people:
Like other conservative activists, LaBarbera condemned the Navy for allowing Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta kiss her... MORE
