As RWW readers know, the Values Voter Summit, the year’s biggest political gathering for the Religious Right, took place in Washington, D.C. this past weekend. Every Republican presidential candidate with the exception of Jon Huntsman addressed the summit, evidence of the continuing importance of Religious Right activists and political groups to the GOP. Polls suggest that the Religious Right is about twice as big as the Tea Party, with significant overlap between the two movements. Ron Paul’s campaign packed in enough voters to win the straw poll, but it would be wrong... MORE

Tim Pawlenty regrets dropping out of the presidential race.
Michele Bachmann is still trying to pretend that her campaign is right on track.

This weekend, nearly every major GOP presidential candidate, along with the top two Republicans in the House of Representatives, will speak at the Values Voter Summit, an annual gathering of the leaders of the movement to integrate fundamentalist Christianity and American politics.
The candidates – Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich – and the congressmen – House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor – will join a who’s who of the far Right at the event. The organizers of... MORE

Jerry Boykin brought his anti-Islam activism to "Wallbuilders Live" and made a real impression on David Barton, who urged listeners to find out where every candidate running for office stands on the issue of Sharia, even the dogcatchers:
David Barton: You got to elect people who will preserve the culture of the United States and not change the culture.
Rick Green: Which means asking tough questions o the candidates and not just the ones that are going to Congress, or the president, but the local guys too because they're going to deal with some of these issues ...
Barton: Well,... MORE

Earlier we reported that Personhood USA is hoping to place its extrememe personhood amendnt on the 2012 ballot in Ohio, hoping voters there will back the amendment outlawing all abortions along with certain forms of birth control, in-vitro fertilization and the treatment of ectopic pregnancies. The group’s state affiliate, Personhood Ohio, even opposes Janet Porter’s “Heartbeat bill” because it does not go far enough in criminalizing abortion. The group needs over 320,000 valid signatures to place the amendment on the ballot, and is telling Ohioans that the... MORE

Of course Sarah Palin is threatening to sue over "The Rogue." Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) is planning an investigation into Planned Parenthood. Bryan Fischer continues his "gays commit hate crimes" crusade. Looks like Mat Staver intends to use his position on the Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations to limit the reach of the government ... which is pretty much exactly the opposite of the purpose for which it was created. Maggie Gallagher talks about her new Marriage Anti-Defamation Alliance. Finally, September is... MORE

Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum today republished a blog post by Elwood Sanders of Virginia Right calling for an effort to put Schlafly on a U.S. postage stamp. Sanders’ proposal is in response to a new campaign by the U.S. Postal Service, which is soliciting suggestions for living people to put on postage stamps. Schlafly was instrumental in defeating the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and even today continues her role as a leading anti-feminist and ultraconservative activist. Michele Bachmann recently hailed Schlafly as “my heroine and my example” and “the... MORE
