Values Voter Summit: Common Core, Not Climate Change, Threatens Security

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and former general Robert Dees appeared on a foreign policy panel at the Values Voter Summit this morning, where they and their fellow panelists spent a good amount of time discussing the 2012 Benghazi attack and President Obama’s supposed un-American attitude.

Dees said that Common Core is also a threat to America’s security, saying that the school standards initiative, just like the White House account of Benghazi, is a left-wing effort to promote “historical revisionism” that undermines the country’s “spiritual infrastructure.”

“The historical revisionism that we see in Benghazi is symptomatic of historical revisionism we see across our country, across the world of politics and even in the Common Core curriculum of the Obama administration,” he said, claiming White House officials “change the truth to fit our liberal agenda objectives.”

Meadows, for his part, mocked government officials who are concerned about climate change’s implications for national security: “How ridiculous is that when you have our fighting men and women, they get up and they say, ‘man it’s a little chilly, maybe today is the day that we’ve got to worry about climate change.’ It’s just ridiculous.”

Tea Party Of Louisiana Falls For Hoax Article: 'Common Core Turns Students Gay'

The Tea Party of Louisiana has declared Sen. David Vitter a “turncoat of liberty” because of his support for Common Core, warning yesterday that the education standards will turn kids gay. Vitter came out in favor of Common Core while Gov. Bobby Jindal, who once supported Common Core, is now trying — so far unsuccessfully— to repeal the standards. Angry with Vitter’s remarks, the Tea Party group responed by linking to an article titled “Common Core Turns First Wave Of Students Gay,” apparently unaware that it was from the parody website Broken World News.

The Times-Picayune notes that Broken World News lists on its About page: “If you believe any of the shit you read here you are a freaking moron.”

“Initial estimates suggest that as many as 60% of students who participated in Common Core have gone gay, many overnight. But experts fear that some are just transitioning a little slower,” the Broken World News article reads. “[T]he difficulty of the Common Core tests is the primary culprit in promoting the gay agenda, calling it ‘common knowledge that the smartest kids in school are usually the gay kids.’”

Of course, the next item listed by the Tea Party group should also be taken as a joke, as it comes from consistently discredited pseudo-historian David Barton.

Tony Perkins: Obama Using Common Core To 'Attack Religious Values And Freedoms'

Tony Perkins today emailed members of the Family Research Council a conspiratorial message on the supposed dangers of Common Core, or as he calls it, “Obamacore.”

He warns that Common Core is pushing “attacks on religious values and freedoms” and using “propaganda” to ensure that “children are indoctrinated with a liberal ideology that celebrates sexual perversion, worships the creation rather than the Creator, all at the expense of academic achievement and our nation’s Christian heritage.”

We wonder if Mike Huckabee, a close ally of the FRC leader and a top figure in the Religious Right, is aware that Common Core is a liberal, anti-Christian plot, as Huckabee joined other GOP figures in calling on states to adopt the Common Core standards.

In just a few short weeks, millions of American students will head back to school. You should be very concerned about the spreading, hidden nightmare facing them in school today: public schools, private, religious, even home schools.

I'm not talking about bullies, playground predators, or school violence; I'm referring to . . .

The morally corrupt federal takeover of education called Common Core -- or as I prefer to call it -- OBAMACORE.

Common Core was originally an effort by the National Governors Association (NGA) to create national standards and tests to unify what children are taught in school. These standards were adopted by 45 states. Seems harmless enough, right? Wrong!

Since it's been hijacked by the Obama administration, Common Core has all the earmarks of the President's other power grabs: attacks on religious values and freedoms; central control; secrecy; skyrocketing costs; and catastrophic ineptitude.

It essentially takes away the rights of parents and local communities to direct their children's education and puts it under the control of an ever-expanding federal bureaucracy. Obamacore can -- and must -- be stopped!

Yes, stopped. Family Research Council (FRC) needs your help to advance our plan to expose and derail this disaster for our children!

If Obamacore is allowed to take control of America's educational system, I foresee a nation where children are indoctrinated with a liberal ideology that celebrates sexual perversion, worships the creation rather than the Creator, all at the expense of academic achievement and our nation's Christian heritage.

All indications are that the standards imposed by Obamacore will actually hamper education rather than improve it.

Obamacore opens education to even more propaganda in class than we are experiencing today. Its "one-size-fits-all" approach not only eliminates more advanced material, but also makes it difficult for teachers to teach students individually. Typical of other liberal programs, rather than raise up underperformers, Obamacore will lower standards of higher-performing states in order to "level the playing field."

The only way to save American education is for parents to take back the reins of control. That's why FRC has made it a top priority to work state by state and in Congress to save local education from the federal control lurking behind Obamacore.

• We have started a special coalition headed by nationally recognized educational and legal expert, Sarah Perry.

• FRC is providing conservative legislators at the federal and state levels, school administrators, teachers, and parents with key research that conclusively proves that this federal takeover will do more harm than good.

FRC helps give elected officials the information they need to build a compelling case with their colleagues to dismantle Obamacore, or at the state level, opt out.

Needless to say, the time to act is short and the costs of opposing Obamacore are mounting quickly.

No one will be exempt.

The future of America's children is at stake. As Christian citizens, we must never relinquish the education of our children to the federal government, which already has an abysmal track record wherever it has inserted itself.

In the past, parents concerned about what is being taught in the public schools could always resort to private schools or home schooling. Not anymore! The Obamacore standards will impact charter schools, parochial schools, and even parents who teach their children at home. Join with FRC to stop Washington radicals from taking over American education.

Conservative Activist Warns Sex-Ed Is A Plot To Increase Democratic Votes By Destroying Marriages

This weekend, “Understanding the Times” host Jan Markell spoke with Minnesota conservative activist Marjorie Holsten about Common Core, which Holtsen claims contains sex-ed material so graphic that it actually violates obscenity laws in several states.

The only reason schools would teach sex-ed, Holsten explains, is that educators are playing the long game in trying to increase the number of Democratic voters: “People say to me, why would they teach such awful things to our children? If you go deep down and you connect those dots, you see that when children are desensitized to sexual things, that affects their ability at a later date to bond with a spouse. And so if you have somebody who can’t bond, they’re not going to have a stable marriage. When you have unstable, broken households, how do they vote? Democrat. So this has a very evil underlying intent.”

Markell also warned that lessons about violence towards African Americans and Native Americans in early American history, along with curricula on child labor laws and the environment, smack of “liberal bias.”

Holsten even predicted that teachers will be punished if they do not “teach that Obama’s the messiah.”

Markell: Second graders are probably going to read about Cesar Chavez, as if seven-year-olds know anything about Cesar Chavez; sixth graders are going to read about Industrial Revolution, child labor; you just indicated that global warming is going to be part of the agenda.

Holsten: Oh yeah. When you read these reading lists, they are designed not only to indoctrinate but to also create in children an absolute hatred of reading.

Markell: The liberal bias seems to be what comes out at me and the fact that conservatives and probably Christians are going to be seen as the mortal enemy, dangerous, whatever. I heard someone say that our founding fathers are probably going to be labeled as racists, that early settlers of America were the persecutors of the indigenous people and again conservatives will be probably painted as a dangerous category of people.

Holsten: One of the insidious things about Common Core is that teachers get their raises and get their tenure based on how the students do on the test, so if a teacher does not teach something that for a Christian teacher would be absolutely repugnant to their values, the children are not going to do well on this test. If the teacher doesn’t teach that Obama’s the messiah, the children aren’t going to answer that question as desired by the Common Core grading system and so the teacher might not be able to retain her grade. So really we need an uprising.

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 5/29/14

  • Glenn Beck, David Barton, Michelle Malkin and other anti-Common Core activists will participate in a live event that will air in movie theaters throughout the country this summer called "We Will Not Conform."
  • Speaking of Beck, he has spent all week blaming Elliot Rodger's murder spree on video games, so logically he'll blame the murder of this two year-old girl on the Bible, right?
  • Predictably, David and Jason Benham have now become full-fledged Religious Right stars and have been given a speaking slot at Ralph Reed's upcoming Faith and Freedom Coalition conference.
  • Mat Staver reiterates his demand that Congress impeach President Obama: "Our Constitution and precious liberties are under full-scale assault by Barack Obama and his leftist administration. Patriotic Americans must refuse to stand silently by while leftists take our nation apart, plank by plank We MUST perform our duty as Americans to free ourselves of this tyranny."
  • Finally, Tea Party Nation has a message for the GOP: "America is waiting for you to prove you are patriots, not eunuchs."

Conservative Activists Defend GOPer Who Said Common Core Turns Kids Gay

Right-wing activists are rallying behind Florida state Rep. Charles Van Zant, the GOP politician who warned that Common Core will turn children gay.

Van Zant pointed to Florida’s education contract with American Institutes for Research (AIR), a group that produces material focusing on LGBT youth. Those materials, however, are not part of the contract with Florida, and in any case it would be absurd to claim that LGBT-inclusive resources would “attract every one of your children to become as homosexual,” as Van Zant did.

In an email alert today, an alliance of Tea Party and Religious Right groups called the Florida Stop Common Core Coalition told its members to “thank Rep. Van Zant for his courageous stand” for “correctly call[ing] out AIR’s social engineering agenda.”

“Representative Van Zant was completely correct in his statements that AIR is promoting the GLBT lifestyle in children, and they are doing the same within families and churches,” wrote Dr. Karen Effrem, the coalition’s executive director. The group criticized “AIR's blatant promotion of the GLBT lifestyle,” including its “full blown promotion of these sexual practices in families, churches, and society at large.”

Florida Eagle Forum also blasted AIR for having “a significant history of promoting identification of the GLBT lifestyle for children as young as seven years old.”

Raymond Johnson of Biblical Concepts Ministries wrote in a press release today that Van Zant “spoke the truth” with his Common Core comments and thanked him for standing “against the onslaught of the radical LGBT agenda.” Johnson cites a satirical Michael Swift essay about gay people using the schools to “sodomize your sons.”

I was in attendance at the Orlando education conference where FL State House District 19 Representative Charles Van Zant Spoke and I personally heard his entire speech. Rep Van Zants [sic] statements are true, he spoke the truth and I support Mr. Van Zant's statements and also share his concern.

I have read the mentioned document and am sickened at the blatant, vile, wicked, and false LGBT propaganda AIR is promoting to teachers, parents and students. This document linked below is a clear fulfillment of the "Homosexual Manifesto" entered in the congressional record by Author Micheal [sic] Swift February 15, 1987. Stating in part,

"We shall sodomize your sons, we shall seduce them in your schools, in your locker rooms, in your sports arenas, in your seminaries, in your youth groups, wherever men are with men together. Your sons shall become our minions and do our bidding. They will be recast in our image. They will come to crave and adore us."

I am outraged that Education Commissioner Pam Stewart would award a state funded contract to AIR. Commissioner Stewart, the state board of education and FL House Speaker Will Weatherford have continued to defend this outrageous and inappropriate contract with AIR.

I am publicly asking Commissioner Stewart and the state board of education to discontinue any business with AIR, and apologize for such a egregious error, or resign immediately.

We are grateful that Representative Van Zant raised concern making the public aware of this situation, hopefully through this attention we the people can help correct this wrong. BCM and conservative Christians will continue to support righteous leaders like Representative Van Zant that continue to stand for traditional, moral, family values against the onslaught of the radical LGBT agenda.

Paranoia-Rama: How Common Core Will Turn Kids Into Gay Muslim Communist Slaves

RWW’s Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right.

It seems President Obama will stop at nothing in his effort to destroy America, as he attempts to diminish the military, turn kids gay through Common Core, kill America’s livestock, blackmail the Supreme Court and grant himself a third term.

Of course none of this is actually going on, but that is just a dose of what you will find this week in the land of right-wing conspiracies.

5. Obama’s Third Term

The National Report, a parody website that reads like an unfunny version of The Onion, struck again this week with an article entitled “Obama Announces Plans For A Third Term Presidential Run.” The article has now been shared over 264,000 on Facebook, and based on previous experience, we imagine that many of the people who have shared it don’t realize it is a spoof:

“I can’t abandon the American people now when they need me more than ever,” Obama told reporters at a press conference this morning. “We’ve come this far as a nation, now is not the time to do something different. This is the change you wanted and this is the change you’re getting.”

Paul Horner who is a spokesman for the Obama Administration told reporters how amazing this news is for the country. “Obama is guaranteed to win in 2016 and then we’ll all be able to enjoy this great man for another four years. Things could not get any better for the American people. I’m so stoked!”

As Snopes notes, “many of those who encountered the item [are] mistaking it for a genuine news article.”

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that people are taking National Report’s spoof at face value. After all, several right-wing websites and commentators, including Rush LimbaughDavid BartonJoseph Farah and Alex Jones, have voiced fears of an Obama third term, and haven’t meant it as a joke.

4. Obama Snubbed Troops On Armed Forces Day

Right-wing activists were up in arms this week over allegations that Obama ignored Armed Forces Day in favor of marking the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. Tony Perkins told Family Research Council members that the president “couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge Armed Forces Day” because he was too busy trying to “lecture Americans on an [LGBT] agenda tearing apart the very military he ignored.”

Of course, had Perkins and others bothered to do a simple Google search, they would have easily found the 2014 Presidential Proclamation on Armed Forces Day.

But the far right rarely misses a chance to throw around baseless accusations about the president, especially when they can promote the fear that Obama secretly despises America. Conservatives have also recently pushed false stories about Obama refusing to commemorate the D-Day anniversary and Memorial Day.

3. John Roberts Was Blackmailed!

While John Roberts may have moved the Supreme Court decidedly to the right, Larry Klayman believes President Obama is using the NSA to blackmail the chief justice.

“He was going to side with the other justices and find that Obamacare was unconstitutional. Is it something that was dug up on him by the NSA or the CIA? Was that used against him to blackmail him?” Klayman asked.

Now, Klayman admits that he has zero evidence that the president is blackmailing Chief Justice Roberts and is just asking the question. But now that the question has been asked (by Klayman), Klayman is determined to “get the truth on this.”

And if he fails to get to the bottom of this scandal he created in his own mind, then Hillary Clinton will abuse the NSA even more egregiously. “Can you imagine Hillary Clinton having the power to use this?” he warned.

That’s why, Klayman maintains, a revolution is needed to block the next election and stop Hillary Clinton from becoming president.

2. Obama Creating ‘Meatless Society’

Citing the Bundy Ranch standoff, Renew America pundit Sher Zieve writes this week that the Bureau of Land Management is attempting to “end cattle farming and begin the process of turning the USA into a meatless society.”

“This is Obama’s private army,” Zieve says of the BLM, “one that will be used against American citizens and likely very soon.”

Don’t worry, Zieve has just a few small concerns about Common Core too:

“Today, in U.S. government schools both Marxist and Islamic propaganda are regularly taught and the curricula for these are growing markedly,” Zieve writes, alleging that the “Holy Bible is being banned in schools along with the targeting of any and all Christian thought and speech, while Islam is being actively taught.”

“Common Core is – in fact – designed to train good Communist subjects; that is subjects in the feudal sense,” she adds.

1. Common Core Will Turn Kids Gay

Florida State Rep. Charles Van Zant, boosting the far right’s campaign against Common Core, told an education conference this week that the new curriculum standards will turn children gay: “These people, that will now receive $220 million from the state of Florida unless this is stopped, will promote double-mindedness in state education and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can. I’m sorry to report that to you.”

Think Progress captured his remarks:

Naturally, the Republican lawmaker defended his remarks by explaining that “lifestyle changes” do not “need to be part of our children's curriculum.”

Sandy Rios Fears Children Won't 'Survive' Common Core, Christians Will Have to Build 'Parallel Society'

Last week, American Family Association’s Sandy Rios spoke to William Estrada of the Home School Legal Defense Association about the supposed dangers of Common Core, which Rios fears will “promote homosexuality” to children.

She told Estrada that conservative Christians will refuse to let their kids learn according to Common Core standards, but as a result will “find themselves in a situation where they cannot function, they cannot be accepted into colleges and universities, they can’t get scholarships, they can’t get a ticket to get into, you know, just living life.”

“I just can’t see how our kids can survive,” Rios lamented, arguing that conservatives will then need to create a new society for those who oppose Common Core: “The only way I can see us even surviving is to develop a parallel society. I’m projecting but honestly that is the truth. A parallel economy, parallel job opportunities.”

Rios: The way is going to Common Core is going to work is our kids, meaning the home school children — when I say our kids, many of us are Christians, we are conservatives politically — our children may find themselves in a situation where they cannot function, they cannot be accepted into colleges and universities, they can’t get scholarships, they can’t get a ticket to get into, you know, just living life, if they are not pulled into the Common Core if it continues on its current trajectory. I just can’t see how our kids can survive.

Estrada: That’s actually our long term concern. Right now the Common Core by law only applies to public schools, of course there are five states that never adopted the Common Core — Texas, Alaska, Virginia, Minnesota only adopted the English Language Arts, and Nebraska never adopted the Common Core — so there are a few states that never did, but the long term concerns is that this is the first step towards a national curriculum. If we truly do have a national curriculum across all fifty states, the pressure will build for homeschoolers to be taught the same way, and if not the doors to universities and colleges will most likely be closed to them.

Rios: The only way I can see us even surviving is to develop a parallel society. I’m projecting but honestly that is the truth. A parallel economy, parallel job opportunities and I just don’t think — that’s not where we want to go. We need to stop Common Core.

Estrada: That is so much why we need to keep this fight.

Alabama Tea Party Leader Warns Lawmakers That A Vote For Common Core Damns Them To Hell

At a public hearing today on a bill that would allow school districts to opt out of Common Core standards, a local Tea Party leader told Alabama state senators that Common Core promotes “acceptance of homosexuality, alternate lifestyles, radical feminism, abortion, illegal immigration and the redistribution of wealth” and that voting in favor of the curricula could potentially affect their fate in the Last Days.

In a video posted by YouTube user Mia Raven, Barbour County Tea Party leader Terry Batton takes to the floor at the state senate education committee hearing to rail against Common Core, which he called a “Trojan horse at the gate of our educational system.”

“We don’t want  our children to be taught to be anti-Christian, anti-Catholic and anti-American,” he said. “We don’t want our children to lose their innocence, beginning in preschool or kindergarten, told that homosexuality is okay and should be experienced at an early age and that same-sex marriages are okay.”

He spent a good part of the speech attacking social justice doctrine. “Social justice teaches children that America is an unjust and oppressive society that should be changed,” he said. “Social justice materials typically include far-left proposals such as acceptance of homosexuality, alternate lifestyles, radical feminism, abortion, illegal immigration and the redistribution of wealth.”

“The curriculum and the producers thereof of Common Core are against the principles of faith, family and freedom, when you take in the social justice values aspect,” he went on. “Common Core, if allowed to go forward, will dilute and erode the power and influence of biblical principles in the hearts and minds of our precious children.”

Finally, he reminded the lawmakers that their vote on the bill might affect their chances at eternal salvation: “Do you want this on your record when you come to the End of Days, knowing the Master Teacher said, ‘As much as you’ve done to the little ones, you’ve done it unto me’?”

According to the Associated Press, Becky Gerritson of the Wetumpka Tea Party also spoke against Common Core at the hearing, in particular its inclusion of Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye.

Bridenstine: Common Core Is Socialism

While speaking with Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council on Monday, Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) claimed that an effort to make a more uniform framework of standards and benchmarks in schools, Common Core, is actually a plot by the federal government to “indoctrinate” students and breed “socialism.”

Despite the congressman’s suggestion, Common Core was not designed by the federal government but was actually a project of the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, which wanted to stop states from “lowering standards to make it easier for students to pass tests and for schools to avoid penalties under the 2002 federal No Child Left Behind law.”

Bridenstine said Common Core is actually an attempt by the federal government to “control opinions” and weaken American exceptionalism.

You don’t have the federal government controlling opinions and indoctrinating students and teachers with what they want the public to learn, and basically what they want the public to learn is that which is ‘common’ – which is why it’s called Common Core. I believe in exceptionalism and I think what Common Core does is it brings it all down to the lowest common denominator. It’s much like socialism. Socialism has been spreading poverty equally across the world and that’s not what we believe in. We believe in exceptionalism and that’s what our country should be advancing, not commonality.

WND: Common Core Turning US Into Nazi Germany

WorldNetDaily commentator Patrice Lewis is fearful that Common Core, with its “brainwashing” and “indoctrination techniques,” is bringing Nazism to America.

According to Lewis, a biology teacher she heard about from a friend is telling her students to “sing a song praising Common Core,” which makes the teacher just like Hitler.

Lewis adds that a public school is like a totalitarian “jail” that turns students into “zombies.”

Some friends came to us this week, troubled, to ask our advice. It seems their youngest son came home from school on Monday and asked – begged – to be homeschooled.

His request has been a recurrent theme during the past few months, but it took on a particular urgency on Monday when his biology teacher required all the students to sing a song praising Common Core.

I should add that this boy isn’t 6 years old. He’s 16. He and his classmates are long past the age of being amused by peppy propaganda songs. And our friend’s son, thanks to the vigilance of his parents, knew that what he was experiencing was nothing short of brainwashing. So his request to homeschool took on a much more serious tone. His parents came over to discuss the subject.

While the federalizing of public schools has been going on for decades, the rapid push to capture our children has taken on a sense of urgency in the last few years. The government doesn’t just want our children’s bodies; it particularly wants their minds. If Nazi German taught us nothing else, it taught us this: Children are the currency of tyrants.

It’s worth remembering that when people objected to joining the Nazi Party, Hitler gave a verbal shrug and assured them that their membership wasn’t necessary since he already had their children. “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future,” he famously said.

And let’s not forget that eerie sentiment from “Mein Kampf”: “The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”

No one can dispute the effectiveness of these youthful indoctrination techniques. Forget trying to change the mind of older people – they’re too set in their ways. But the children – aah, they’re the hope of the future. It is critical that the minds of children be captured.

Remember, follow the money. If schools are government-funded, then logically only government-approved attitudes and behaviors will be permitted. Students (and by extension, their families) must be tracked to make sure everyone falls within acceptable boundaries of thought and behavior. Dissenting opinions will be made known to officials, and corrective measures can be taken. I’m beginning to think the Planet Camazotz (with the megalomaniac “IT”) from “A Wrinkle in Time” was astoundingly prescient.

Are you freaked out yet? I know our friends are. That’s why they will soon be homeschooling their youngest son.

I can’t emphasize strongly enough the need to reject government education, if at all possible. It is your duty as a parent to raise children, not zombies. You’re raising the hope of the future, not its doom. It’s time to look outside the jail cell and see what educational alternatives you can find for your kids. Almost anything is better than putting them in prison for eight hours a day.

Don’t forget: Children are the currency of tyrants. You can see the evidence right in front of you. The government already takes too much of your income. Tell it to get its hands off your legacy.

Right Wing Leftovers - 2/5/14

  • David Barton and Rick Green officially announce their support for a Convention of States.
  • Bryan Fischer offers a simple guide to "Defeating Darwin in four easy steps."
  • Samuel Rodriguez and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference have endorsed Common Core.
  • It's almost as if Glenn Beck doesn't want people who don't share his right-wing views living in Texas. But that can't be the case because that would kind of make him a hypocrite.
  • Apparently, Satan doesn’t want men to have close male friendships by stoking fears it would lead to homosexual intimacy ... or something?
  • Finally, "Coach" Dave Daubenmire calls for reinstatement of the draft, by which he means a "6 weeks of mandatory boot camp" for all high school graduates.

Beck: Common Core Is Insidious And Pure Evil

Obsessed with an incident from last week in which a parent was arrested for objecting to Common Core at a forum in Maryland, Glenn Beck has now returned his focus to the issue, declaring on his radio program that not only it is turning America into a police state, but also insidious, Satanic, and fundamentally evil.

Claiming that the intent of Common Core is to determine careers for school children by the time they are in middle school, Beck ranted that "it is communism" before warning that "it's insidious and we are not dealing with flesh and bone."

"We are dealing with evil," Beck said. "And there comes a time where you have to just say what it is, and it's evil":

Beck: Common Core Is Turning America Into A Police State

On his radio program today, Glenn Beck spent a good deal of time obsessing over a video of a parent being forcibly removed from a forum on Common Core in Maryland last week after which he was arrested and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, saying that it was proof that America is turning into a police state.

"Write this down in your diary," Beck said "and your kids will look at you as a prophet later.  Write this down in your diary; this is a road sign [of] the fundamental transformation of America and turning us into an absolute, recognizable police state. I believe this little incident in Baltimore is the beginning of it."

For good measure, Beck then went on to repeat the false claim that, under Common Core, incorrect answers to math questions would not be wrong provided that the student could explain how they arrived at their answer.

"We are literally living in 1984," Beck said. "They're changing the answers to math now":

Of course, as we pointed out when David Barton made this very same assertion on Beck's show several weeks ago, this false claim has been debunked by none other than Beck's own "The Blaze" website.

This is now the third example we have found of Beck repeating on his program information that has been specifically debunked by his own staff.

Right Wing Leftovers - 9/4/13

  • Sam Rodriguez defends Common Core.
  • Why are cast members from "Duck Dynasty" appearing on radio programs hosted by the anti-gay bigots at the American Family Association?

  • Finally, Bryan Fischer says White Christians are the real victims of persecution and discrimination in America:

Filling In For Glenn Beck, David Barton Lies About Common Core

As we noted several months ago, Glenn Beck has transformed his The Blaze network into a public policy organization dedicated to fighting the implementation of Common Core because he is convinced that it is going to lead to a 1984-like learning environment where students are strapped to computers and monitored at all times.

Leading this effort has been none other than David Barton, who, after hosting another gathering of anti-Common Core actvists and state legislators at Beck's headquarters, sat in for Beck on his television program on Friday for a hour-long program dedicated to Common Core and who, during his opening monologue, played this misleadingly edited video of an educator supposedly saying that, under Common Core, it doesn't matter if students think that 3 x 4 = 11 so long as they can explain how they arrived at that answer (skip ahead to 7:30 mark):

Following the clip, Barton said it showed that education under Common Core is not about "getting right answers," which is fundamentally false, and Barton knows it.

As we pointed out earlier this month, this video has been misleadingly edited, since the speaker is cut off after supposedly saying that getting the wrong answer is not important when the full video shows that she then goes on to say that any student who answered that 3 x 4 = 11 would be wrong and would be corrected.

In fact, Beck's own The Blaze network debunked the very clip that Barton played on the program last Monday:

The truncated clip features August’s statement: “But even under the new Common Core if even if they said 3 x 4 was 11, if they were able to explain their reasoning and explain how they came up with their answer, really in words and oral explanations and they showed it in a picture but they just got the final number wrong? We’re more focusing on the how and the why.”

An audience member then asks whether students will be corrected for giving the wrong answer.

“Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. We want our students to compute correctly. But the emphasis is really moving more towards the explanation, and the how, and the why, and can I really talk through the procedures that I went through to get this answer — and not just knowing that it’s 12, but why is it 12? How do I know that?” August replies.

A fuller video of the forum, however, reveals that August said first students should certainly know that 3 x 4 equals 12.

This is now the third time that we have found something debunked by The Blaze being repeated on Beck's shows as statement of fact.

Maybe the people at The Blaze who help put together Beck's programming ought to start reading their own reporting.

Angry with Vitter’s remarks, the Tea Party group responed by linking to an article titled “Common Core Turns First Wave Of Students Gay,” apparently unaware that it was from the parody website Broken World... Tony Perkins today emailed members of the Family Research Council a conspiratorial message on the supposed dangers of Common Core, or as he calls it, “Obamacore.” He warns that Common Core is pushing “attacks on religious values and freedoms” and using “propaganda” to ensure that “children are indoctrinated with a liberal ideology that celebrates sexual perversion, worships the creation rather than the Creator, all at the expense of academic achievement and our nation’s Christian heritage.” We wonder if Mike Huckabee, a close ally of the... If you go deep down and you connect those dots, you see that when children are desensitized... MORE

Glenn Beck, David Barton, Michelle Malkin and other anti-Common Core activists will participate in a live event that will air in movie theaters throughout the country this summer called "We Will Not Conform." Speaking of Beck, he has spent all week blaming Elliot Rodger's murder spree on video games, so logically he'll blame the murder of this two year-old girl on the Bible, right? Predictably, David and Jason Benham have now become full-fledged Religious Right stars and have been given a speaking slot at Ralph Reed's upcoming Faith and Freedom Coalition... MORE

In an email alert today, an alliance of Tea Party and... MORE
