GOP Representative Goes From Christian Revival Meeting To Supporting Marriage Equality

Last week, Rep. David Jolly, a Republican from Florida, spoke at Rodney Howard-Browne's ongoing "Celebrate America" revival meeting in Washington, DC which was organized in order to bring about a Third Great Awakening in America by lighting "fires right in the belly of the beast" so that God can "cast a Gospel net across the capital."

Speaking about 46:00 into the gathering, Jolly told the crowd that he grew up the son of a preacher and accepted Jesus as his Savior at five years old and now his faith serves as the foundation of his views about government.

"I subscribe to a view of freedom that is rooted in the tenets of faith," Jolly declared, explaining that human beings are granted liberty and freedom by God and then decide how much power to turn over to the government in order to protect those rights.

As members of Congress, he said, "we don't apologize for our Christian faith, we own our Christian faith, we share our Christian faith" because elected representatives have the responsibility "to do what we believe is right for the future of our country and reflect the biblical principles as we act upon that."

Jolly concluded by asking the audience to pray for all elected leaders "because we are at a point in world history where man cannot get us out of this alone and it's going to take a divinely inspired wisdom from the Lord Jesus Christ and as I said at the beginning, we don't apologize for that."

Saying that the only reason he is in Congress at the moment is because that is where God wants him to be, Jolly promised that "I will work every day to reflect the biblical principles and faith principles we all believe in and I will do my part to join you in leading this country in what we believe is the right direction based upon the foundation of faith and I will do that until the same Hands of Providence that brought me to this office lead me out of it":

That was all pretty standard Religious Right language, which is why we didn't even bother writing it up when we first watched it yesterday ... but that was before Jolly announced his support for marriage equality:

Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) announced his support for gay marriage Monday, saying that he believes it is "fully appropriate" for a state to recognize both same-sex marriages and "traditional" ones, even though he, as a Christian, believes in the the latter.

When asked by The Washington Post whether he supports gay marriage, in light of a Florida judge's decision last week to overturn the state's ban, Jolly said that his personal views on marriage are that it should be limited to one man and one woman. But, he added, states should not be defining the "sanctity" of marriage.

“As a matter of my Christian faith, I believe in traditional marriage," said Jolly in a statement to The Post. "But as a matter of Constitutional principle I believe in a form of limited government that protects personal liberty. To me, that means that the sanctity of one’s marriage should be defined by their faith and by their church, not by their state. Accordingly, I believe it is fully appropriate for a state to recognize both traditional marriage as well as same-sex marriage, and therefore I support the recent decision by a Monroe County Circuit Judge.”

When a member of Congress can cater to a Religious Right event and then, a week later, announce his support for government recognition of gay marriage, it starts to become increasingly obvious that anti-gay activists’ fight against marriage equality is on its last legs.

Louie Gohmert Proves That God Exists

Rep. Louie Gohmert was among the speakers at last night's "Celebrate America" event, the three week long revival effort organized by "holy laughter" pioneer Rodney Howard-Browne, where he proved once and for all that God exists because "you couldn't get everything unless there was something that was the creator of everything."

Quoting an old friend from back in Texas, Gohmert said that he feels sorry for atheists because regardless of how smart they think they are, they have to admit that they believe "the equation that nobody plus nothing equals everything."

"How embarrassing for an intellectual to have to say 'yeah, I believe that,'" Gohmert said. "Nobody plus nothing equals everything."

"Well, you couldn't get everything unless there was something that was the creator of everything," Gohmert wisely concluded, "and that's the Lord we know":

'This Is God's Country': E.W. Jackson Proclaims That 'America Was Ordained By Almighty God'

Bishop E.W. Jackson, who was the Republican Party's nominee for lieutenant governor in Virginia last year, spoke at last night's "Celebrate America" event where he loudly proclaimed that "America was ordained by Almighty God" and therefore Christians must take a stand and declare that, no matter what the government says, God's definition of marriage will never change.

"We've got to make up our minds that we wrestle not against flesh and blood," Jackson bellowed, "but against principalities, against powers, against the rules of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. We've got to make up our minds that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but they are mighty through God, to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into obedience to Jesus Christ. We've got to stand up!"

"We're not going to shut up," he continued, "and we're not going to stop. We're not going to quit. I don't care what anybody says, I don't care whether it's the president or the Supreme Court, a marriage is union between one man and one woman and that's all it will ever be!"

Rodney Howard-Browne Fears America 'Has Become Demon Possessed'

During last weekend’s “Celebrate America” convention, televangelist Rodney Howard-Browne called on Religious Right activists to free America from the clutches of Satan before the country turns into a jail for Christians.

“We have allowed the Devil to come in and take over every realm of society,” Howard-Browne lamented. After dismissing the separation of church and state as “a bunch of garbage” and peddling some Christian Nationalist pseudo-history, Howard-Browne warned that people will soon flee America. “If we do not see another Great Awakening, people are going to want to leave here because this place is fast becoming a prison,” he said.

Later, he called on conservatives to take back the government, warning that “it is like our nation has become demon possessed in every realm.”

Pastor At Religious Right Event Predicts Church Will Soon Cure HIV

Televangelist Rodney Howard-Browne’s “Celebrate America” event kicked off over the Fourth of July weekend, bringing Religious Right speakers together in Washington D.C. with predictable messages about how gay rights will doom America.

One speaker, Pastor Kwabena Sarpong of Winners Chapel International Maryland, said that while the U.S. was established with spiritual “power,” the country is now in decline because “they have taken power out of it.” A Religious Right revival, Sarpong explained, would bring America back to greatness … and even cure HIV.

“Thank God for you and I that we are in this nation, we are taking the revival. Until they see power, they will not believe in your God,” he said. “When they have toiled and they can’t find any cure to HIV and they come to the church and you lay hands and they start walking, they will see power and they will all run to the House of God for the Bible says in the Last Days all shall run.”

Staver: Gay Marriage Is 'A Direct Attack On Who God Is'

Rodney Howard-Browne, a pioneer of the Holy Laughter movement, is currently leading a three-week long revival event in Washington, DC called "Celebrate America" that is featuring a variety of Religious Right leaders.

Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver was among the first speakers to participate over the weekend where he declared that America is a modern day Pompeii that is on the verge of total destruction because of its embrace of things like abortion and gay marriage.

As Staver explained, not all sins are equal because, according to 1 Corinthians 6, sexual sins alone are committed against one's own body and so they are "unique from any other sin."

As such, he said, by accepting homosexuality and gay marriage, our society is "moving into a direct attack on who God is."

"When you destroy human sexuality," Staver proclaimed, "and when you destroy human life created in the image of God and you destroy God's creation of marriage as man and woman, husband and wife, male and female, when you destroy that, you destroy your understanding of who God is. That's where we are moving right now in America":

'Holy Laughter' Pastor To Organize Latest Religious Right Prayer Rally

Rodney Howard-Browne is organizing a Washington D.C. prayer event, Celebrate America, complete with a promotional video that includes a gay couple alongside images of a strip club, mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and Agenda 21 as threats to America.

Back in 2012, the preacher organized a right-wing prayer rally with Focus on the Family to coincide with the Republican National Convention, and the Family Research Council recently held a prayer meeting to support Celebrate America.

Howard-Browne is a pioneer of the Holy Laughter movement, which you can see on display here with Howard-Browne alongside the late Oral Roberts:

At another Holy Laughter event, Howard-Browne says he healed a man of cancer.

Jerry Boykin and Harry Jackson have also endorsed the event, with Boykin telling the Christian Broadcasting Network that America is “beginning” to “completely self-destruct”:

"At the root of America's problem, we really have a spiritual cancer that's been eating away at our nation," Bishop Harry Jackson, senior pastor of Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, Maryland, told CBN News.

Retired Gen. Jerry Boykin used to fight America's physical enemies overseas. He's now working with the Family Research Council fighting spiritual foes.

Boykin said without a Third Great Awakening, forces like those that took down mighty empires of the past will also bring down the United States.

...

Howard-Browne pointed to the epidemics of abortion and illegal drug use in the nation. "Three-thousand babies aborted every single day in this country. We have over 300 million people; we use over 70 percent of the world's drugs," he said.

...

They'll be holding 14 days and nights of mega-sized meetings and street evangelism in the nation's capital as America celebrates its 238th birthday. They're calling it Celebrate America.

"We've come to light the fires right in the belly of the beast, if you can put it that way," Howard-Browne said.
