Is Prophetic Intercession The Future of The Religious Right?

In the last several posts I wrote featuring video clips from the "Convergence 2010: A Cry to Awaken A Nation" conference, I tried to note the rather new development of Religious Right activists like Harry Jackson, Jim Garlow, and Janet Porter joining forces with self-proclaimed "prophetic intercessors" like Lou Engle or, in this case, Cindy Jacobs of Generals International, which hosted this particular conference.

But frankly, aside from the fervent praying and occasional speaking in tongues, nothing any of these Religious Right leaders said at this conference was all that different from the sorts of things you hear at any Religious Right conference.

The difference in this case was the host, Cindy Jacobs and her Generals International.

And written descriptions just cannot do justice to her style of speaking and activism, which is wholly different from what we normally see at Religious Right conferences.

As such, I have put together this video of Jacobs closing out the "Convergence 2010" conference where she recounts the time she had an amazing visitation with God during which he showed her Seraphim and set her bedroom on fire, before she set about about casting out demons, lifting curses, and conducting faith healings of everything from AIDS to Hepatitis C to Glaucoma and even Cancer:

It should also be noted this sort of overlap is becoming more and more common, as both Jacobs and Engle have been invited to the upcoming Freedom Federation summit next month at Liberty University along with elected officials like Virgina Governor Bob McDonnell, VA Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Govs. Tim Pawlenty and Rick Perry.

Garlow Reveals The Exact Moment God Decided to Pass Prop 8

Here is a second clip from Jim Garlow's speech at "Convergence 2010" in which he calls for 40 days of nationwide fasting and prayer heading into the midterm elections.

In it, he explains how he knew that fasting and prayer were going to be the key to passing Prop 8 in California, so that is why he personally convinced Lou Engle and The Call to move to the state for six months to focus on it.  He explains that for the 40 days leading up to the election, Engle's acolytes fasted and prayed for passage of Prop 8, culminating in The Call rally in San Diego on November 1 where, between 4:20-4:50 they felt that "something had snapped in the Heavenlies" and "we knew God had moved":

Jim Garlow To Head Gingrich's "Renewing American Leadership"

In addition to Harry Jackson and Janet Porter, Pastor Jim Garlow also spoke at the "Convergence 2010" conference where he blamed today's degenerate culture on the church's failure to impart true Christian value to society and its political leaders, saying that the Bible has the answers to every pressing political issue (taxes, health care, immigration, Social Security, etc...) but nobody ever makes the case.

He went on to blame the Emerson v. Board of Education decision and Lyndon Johnson for having "effectively silenced, chilled, and muzzled almost every pastor in America" and the situation has only been made worse, Garlow claimed, by the "hate speech legislation" signed into law by President Obama which has all but "made it illegal to preach the word of God."

At which point Garlow announced that he had accepted the presidency of Renewing American Leadership, which is an organization founded by Newt Gingrich, David Barton, and others which is committed to "defending and promoting the three pillars of American civilization: freedom, faith and free markets":

Janet Porter Prays For Control Over The Media

Yesterday we posted a video of Bishop Harry Jackson speaking at the Generals International's "Convergence 2010: A Cry to Awaken A Nation" conference in Dallas, Texas, noting the growing merger between traditional Religious Right activists and self-proclaimed "prophets" like those who run Generals International.

Faith 2 Action's Janet Porter also spoke at the conference and spent nearly an hour more or less recounting the stunts she had carried out via her organization, from urging people to send baby rattles and roses to Congress to signify their opposition to abortion to her more recent effort to inundate the Capitol with "pink slips."

The focus of her speech was on how to use the media to spread the word of God and at the end, she delivered this prayer asking God to deliver control of the media to them, to "take power and influence in the media of this country and of this globe from the unrighteous and give it to righteous people" and to "make CBS the Christian Broadcasting System" so that God's people can finally take dominion over this nation:

Harry Jackson: "The Modern Day Martin Luther King"

In recent months, we've noticed that many of the political activists in the leadership of the Religious Right have started merging their movement with the self-proclaimed "prophetic" voices like Lou Engle.

Over the weekend, this trend continued as Harry Jackson spoke at Generals International's "Convergence 2010: A Cry to Awaken A Nation" conference in Dallas, Texas.  Generals International is run by Cindy Jacob who describes her specialty as "prophetic intercession" and claims to be highly sought after by those seeking "prophetic advice."

It was Jacob was introduced Jackson by calling him "the modern day Martin Luther King," which was a comparison Jackson also played up during his lengthy speech, comparing the opposition to his efforts to stop marriage equality in Washington, DC to the opposition faced by King before proclaiming that, twenty years from now, some of the movements "great apostles and prophets are going to be people who came out of the gay lifestyle," starting with the lesbians and then by "radical homosexuals" who have been "smitten down on their road to Damascus" and raised up by God.  Finally, Jackson led the gathering in prayer, setting free those held captive by "demonic authority" and speaking in tongues:
