Recently, Jim Garlow sat down with theologian and author Wayne Grudem for an hour-long discussion on "Biblical Issues for This Election" that was based on a document [PDF] Grudem put together comparing the positions of the Democratic and Republican parties. During the wide-ranging discussion, the two spent a good deal of time on the topic of marriage equality which, not surprisingly, they both vociferously oppose, as Garlow explained that "sexual orientation" doesn't really exist and is just a modern phenomenon cooked up in the last few years. As such, nobody is... MORE >

A recent film released by Truth in Action Ministries, entitled Why Christians left the Political Arena, implores evangelicals to remain politically engaged. Featuring activists Calvin Beisner, Wayne Grudem and Rick Scarborough along with an eminent montage of gay rights, pro-choice, and environmental activists, the film decries any separation between religion and public policy. It implies that if a truly observant Christian is to obey the commands of Jesus, they must advocate for laws that “protect” marriage, and warns that God will hold us accountable for “... MORE >

For the last two days, James Dobson's "Family Talk" radio program has featured a discussion with Wayne Grudem, author of the book "Politics According to the Bible." In between fretting that the United States was on the verge of permanent collapse due to the policies of President Obama and the poor moral/spiritual state of the nation in general, Grudem was asked by Ryan Dobson just what he should say to people who think that just because something is legal that makes it okay. The question prompted Grudem to respond that just because something is legal, that doesn... MORE >

Televangelist James Robison continues to position himself as a behind-the-scenes leader of the Religious Right’s political planning and mobilization for the upcoming presidential election. Today, Robison posted on his blog a chart from writer Wayne Grudem on how to “defeat the enemy’s plan” (read: Satan's plans) in politics and “fulfill the will of God.” During our recent Leadership Summit, Wayne Grudem, Ph.D., who is a professor at Phoenix Seminary and a gifted author, began to write what God revealed to him concerning the strategy and effectiveness... Last week, Time's Amy Sullivan reported that dozens of Religious Right leaders gathered for "a conference call to discuss their dissatisfaction with the current GOP presidential field, and agreed that Rick Perry would be their preferred candidate if he entered the race." Brian Kaylor of EthicsDaily.com had reported on the same thing a few weeks back, noting that the effort was being organized by James Robison. Last Friday, Robison wrote a post on his blog in which explained that he had called these gatherings in September of 2010 and June of 2011 because "there is an insidious... MORE >

Yesterday I wrote a post based on excerpts from the book "Politics According to the Bible: A Comprehensive Resource for Understanding Modern Political Issues in Light of Scripture" by Wayne Grudem in which he complained about the government taking away his preferred grocery bags, light bulbs, and playground equipment. As I noted then, I am still making my way through the introductory chapters and haven't gotten into the chapters that lay out the proper Biblical political position on issues like abortion or marriage ... but based on this interview with Grudem that I... Lately I have been working my way through Wayne Grudem's textbook-like tome "Politics According to the Bible: A Comprehensive Resource for Understanding Modern Political Issues in Light of Scripture" because I have seen it mentioned by several of the organizations and people we monitor and it's been blurbed by the likes of Chuck Colson and Timothy Goeglein. In it, Grudem lays out the proper Biblical position on everything from abortion and taxes to tariffs and farm subsidies ... but I haven't gotten to those issues yet as I am still working my way through the introductory chapters...
