David Barton to Keynote Fundraiser for Scott Lively

Scott Lively’s Redemption Gate Mission Society is hosting a Thanksgiving fundraiser [PDF] featuring none other than fellow pseudo-historian David Barton! Perhaps Barton is helping Lively’s ministry after he came to Barton’s defense when his latest book The Jefferson Lies was pulled off the shelves by its Christian publisher over its many factual inaccuracies, thanks in no small part due to the heavy criticism it received from evangelical scholars such as Warren Throckmorton and Michael Coulter, whose book Getting Jefferson Right thoroughly exposed Barton’s errors and distortions.

Lively rushed to defend Barton from Throckmorton since the Grove City College professor also criticized Lively’s book The Pink Swastika, which argues that homosexuals were behind Nazism and the Holocaust in order to seek revenge on the Jewish people, and his work in Uganda, where he advocated for homosexuals to either be imprisoned or ordered to go through conversion therapy. Lively’s work also helped inspire Uganda’s notorious Anti-Homosexuality Bill that would make homosexuality a crime punishable by death, although Lively later distanced himself from that specific provision.

As Throckmorton notes, Barton and Lively have both arrived at the conclusion that criticism of Barton’s work, even from other evangelicals, is driven by the “homosexualist” movement and therefore they don’t need to make any serious effort responding to it.

On November 9, David Barton is slated to appear at Scott Lively’s Redemption Gate Ministry. Perhaps this boost to Lively’s credibility comes as a pay back for Lively’s conspiracy theory about why The Jefferson Lies was attacked by so many Christian historians prior to being pulled off the shelves by publisher Thomas Nelson. In August, Lively linked my blog posts debunking The Pink Swastika in 2009 to my recent book with Michael Coulter (Getting Jefferson Right) debunking Barton’s book The Jefferson Lies. Since everything has to do with homosexuality for Lively, he opined that our book fact-checking Barton’s book was written because David Barton is anti-gay. Barton ran with that idea by tweeting the article to his followers, and having Lively on his Wallbuilders show.

The whole conspiracy idea (and it is a false one – we wrote the book about The Jefferson Lies because it had just come out and because Barton made/makes many false claims) was used by Barton to deflect the substantial criticisms we made in Getting Jefferson Right. Neither Lively nor Barton have responded directly to the evidence we presented about their various claims. Instead, their tactic has been to launch ad hominem attacks against me and others. The primary strategy of both Lively and Barton has been to invent a narrative where I am a liberal who has somehow persuaded scores of conservative people to write critically about these two men. Barton’s right hand man, Rick Green, compared me and others conservative Christian scholars to Adolf Hitler and Saul Alinsky because we pointed out blatant errors of fact in David Barton’s work.

Lively: Intimidate Pro-Gay Rights Officials with 'Angry Crowds with Tar and Feathers in Hand'

After claiming to take an exit from anti-gay advocacy, Scott Lively now says that anti-gay activists aren’t working hard enough. In a WorldNetDaily column, the activist who urged Uganda to imprison gays who refuse sexual orientation conversion therapy and blames the Holocaust on gay people said that the anti-gay movement has been too nice and must now bring out “angry crowds with tar and feathers in hand” to intimidate officials who back “gay fascism bills,” or anti-discrimination measures. Lively offered to lecture about how gays are responsible for the Holocaust and advocate the “recruitment of children into a homosexual identity” in order to help turn an anti-gay “snowball” into an “avalanche.”

Now we know that when the leftists attempt to push a “gay fascism bill” in politically conservative areas, our response must be to create controversy to draw public attention to the bill so that the people wake up and realize there’s a problem. Throw out the old playbook of acting nice and trying to persuade the public officials through reason. They think they are smarter than you all anyhow and have already made up their minds. They need to see angry crowds with tar and feathers in hand coming to run them out of office! Indeed, the Mayor of Springfield complained to the media that he was extremely bothered by threats of recall by the citizens.

If you find out there’s a “gay fascism bill” coming to your conservative town and need help exposing it to the public, just give me a call and I’ll come to help. Invite me to give a speech on my book “The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party” or address the global threat of homosexuality – or to give a give a sermon or lecture on ANY aspect of the homosexual issue. When they hear I’m coming to town every left-wing fanatic for miles around will start wailing and gnashing their teeth, and normal people will start popping their heads up to see what’s going on. Once that snowball of public controversy starts down the hill it takes very little effort to keep it rolling till it smashes right through the doors of city hall like an avalanche.

Friends, I believe the worm has begun to turn and the backlash against the fascistic “gay” agenda has finally started. As Christians we need to steward this process and keep it civil and positive. Our goal is not merely to stop their agenda, it is to advance our own: a genuinely family-friendly society grounded in healthy biblical values. To that end, it is time for our side to begin showing the contrast in clear unequivocal terms. We need to expose every aspect of the homosexual lifestyle and agenda to public scrutiny and at the same time remind everyone that God’s plan for sex and marriage produces as much good and health as “sexual freedom” produces harm and disease.

Last week’s vindication by the University of Texas at Austin of the Mark Regnerus’ study exposing the dangers of “gay” parenting is both another sign of the worm’s turn and a tool for every pro-family advocate to use.

Likewise, the choice of the Center for Marriage Policy to come against “gay marriage” on the grounds of public health, talking again about the diseases associated with homosexual conduct, is a very smart move. They have declared September “Protect Marriage Month” and are circulating a flyer detailing the many health risks of homosexuality. We need to bring back public discussion of AIDS as a “gay” disease, pederasty as major subculture of male homosexuality, mental health problems and domestic violence as major problems associated with lesbianism, the increasing recruitment of children into a homosexual identity through experimentation with “gay” sex, etc. – all the truths we stopped telling because the other side screamed so loudly about them.

Now is the time to step out from the behind the defensive bulwark of “traditional marriage” in which our only argument is that “marriage is between a man and a woman.” It is time to start taking back some of the ground we have ceded to the other side in the face of their overwhelming public-relations superiority. Their marketing strategy to cast homosexuality as benign and even socially beneficial has finally hit the brick wall of reality. The phony facade is beginning to crack and crumble like an eggshell does when a baby chick is ready to be born.

Lively gladly cites the recent report of the far-right Center for Marriage Policy, which declared September “Protecting Marriage Month” and in a flyer [PDF] calls homosexuality a “sexual disorder” and “perversion.”

Corporations promoting the gay lifestyle do their employees and the Nation a great disservice. Those who truly care about ending the AIDS crisis, saving others and our children from death or disability must focus on policy encouraging treatment and counseling for those caught up in a promiscuous lifestyle.

The fact that promiscuity is “normal” to the gay lifestyle indicates that it likely reflects a sexual disorder. Most homosexuals also sleep with the opposite sex, possibly infecting innocent wives, husbands, and children with HIV and other serious or untreatable infections.

Sexual perversion is not a discovery of science. It is the work of the sexual liberation movement. Their political agenda depends on us believing that sexual promiscuity and risky behaviors are normal and somehow worthy of being elevated to the status of genuine marriage.

We disagree with the sexual revolution. Science has proven that homosexuality is a harmful behavior which is dangerous to others and our children.

By protecting Marriage and encouraging homosexuals to turn the corner to live healthy lives, we share love and life with everyone.

We do not give smokers or illegal drug users special rights. We must discourage homosexuality and encourage therapy to save lives and protect the rest of America.

A 'Blacklist' is in the Eye of the Beholder

Earlier this year, GLAAD, with the assistance of Jeremy Hooper, unveiled their Commentator Accountability Project which was aimed at putting "critical information about frequent anti-gay interviewees into the hands of newsrooms, editors, hosts and reporters" so that audiences could be accurately informed about their true views whenever these anti-gay activists were featured in the media.

When the list of commentators was release, those who founds themselves on it were quick to scream "McCarthysim," as if merely chronicling their publicly stated anti-gay statements for all to see was some form of blacklist.

In fact, that is exactly what Peter LaBarbera and Matt Barber said:

“McCarthyism is alive and well within the ranks of the homo-fascist political lobby. Since liberals can’t win the debate, all they have left is to silence dissent,” said Barber, AFTAH board member and Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action. “As we’ve seen evidenced by the recent [Sandra] Fluke flap involving Rush Limbaugh, left-wing extremists have ramped-up their Orwellian efforts to silence those who pose a threat to their radical secular-socialist agenda.

“I count it an honor to be included among such a distinguished list of pro-family warriors,” Barber said. “As Christ followers, we will never stop speaking God’s truth in love. These homosexualist hatemongers have exposed who they truly are. They will never silence us.”

Said AFTAH’s LaBarbera: “This is all about silencing, discrediting and demonizing pro-family voices. I guess GLAAD is so afraid that the truth about homosexuality will be heard that it will go to the extreme of creating a ‘blacklist’ against moral leaders — for a media already disinclined to be fair on this politically correct issue.”

So it is no small irony that both Barber and LaBarbera have signed on to an open letter to Fox News calling for Truth Wins Out's Wayne Besen to be banned from appearing on the station:

It is time that the O'Reilly Factor cease using Besen as a guest commentator. Providing Besen with a forum lends credibility to his pernicious tactics and enables Besen to exploit his appearances for fundraising purposes.

When Fox News provides a forum to a radical homosexual activist known for employing inflammatory and hateful language in the service of promoting lies, the network becomes complicit in the damage done to the victims of Wayne Besen's and the SPLC's smear campaigns.

We ask the News Corporation, Fox News, and Bill O'Reilly to find more ethical spokespersons for the liberal view of sexuality. In their infamous Washington Post ad accusing FRC of hateful values, Besen and the SPLC claim that "words have consequences." Yes, they do. And Besen's may lead to violence.

If GLAAD's project which simply collected the views of anti-gay activists was, as Barber decried it, nothng less than censorship and a blacklist and downright un-American McCarthyism, what is it when Barber and others sign onto to a letter demanding that someone else be banned from appearing on a major media outlet?

Pseudo-Historians Unite: David Barton and Scott Lively use Fake Scholarship to Disguise their Extremist Views

David Barton defends his junk history by pointing to an anonymous group of academics who apparently approve of his “scholarship” while simultaneously saying that people can trust his work because the liberal, secular, academic elite doesn’t approve of it. While Barton refuses to name anyone from his supposed gaggle of admirers in academia, he is touting the support of a fellow pseudo-historian: Scott Lively, who blames the Holocaust on the gay community.

That’s right, Barton, who has the ear of Republican politicians and is helping to write the Republican Party platform, is touting the endorsement of someone who thinks gays brought about the Holocaust.

As Kyle reported yesterday, Lively appeared on WallBuilders Live, Barton’s radio show which he co-hosts with Rick Green, to defend Barton and denounce his critics, namely Professor Warren Throckmorton of Grove City College. Throckmorton co-authored “Getting Jefferson Right,” a book that scrutinizes and debunks many of Barton’s claims in “The Jefferson Lies,” which was so inaccurate it was pulled from publication.

Even before Lively’s appearance on WallBuilders Live, Barton was promoting Lively’s attack on Throckmorton via Twitter and Facebook, arguing that Throckmorton lied about Lively’s involvement in shaping Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill and therefore shouldn’t be trusted in whatever he said about Barton. While on WallBuilders Live, Lively said it is “absolutely not true” that he promoted “forced therapy of homosexuals in Uganda”:

However, that is exactly what he told Janet Mefferd back in May, arguing that he wanted Uganda to treat homosexuals just like drunk drivers who have the choice between jail time and therapy, in this case sexual orientation conversion therapy:

This brazen dishonesty is how both Lively and Barton operate. While they like to fashion themselves as historians they are in reality simply political activists.

Similar to how Barton misrepresents the Founders as conservative evangelical Christians to advance his own conservative political agenda, Lively rewrites the history of Nazi Germany to argue that gays and lesbians are responsible for the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust in order to further his own anti-gay politics in the U.S. and abroad.

In “The Pink Swastika,” Lively asserts that “the glaring truth of history is that homosexuals bore a disproportionately large share for the responsibility for the rise of Nazism.” He claims that gays in Germany sought to restore homosexual occult religion and eliminate its Judeo-Christian detractors: “there is a spiritual element to the Holocaust that suggests that it was, in some respects, vengeance against the people whose moral laws had relegated pagan homo-occultism to obscurity and ignominy” (p. 49). According to Lively, “the rise of homosexuality in a Judeo-Christian based culture” inevitably means that “violence and depravity increase” (p. 137).

“The Pink Swastika” later shifts the conversation to the U.S. debate on gay rights, warning that “Nazi themes are common in the homosexual community” today (p. 146) and that American society is heading down the same path as pre-WWII Germany thanks to gay rights (p. 187).

No legitimate historians have given any credibility Lively’s claims that the Nazi party leadership was overwhelmingly composed of gay men. Throckmorton has posted one of the most thorough refutations of Lively’s book. In fact, homosexuals were a targeted for persecution in Nazi Germany and thousands were sent to concentration camps.

Throckmorton and countless others haven’t criticized Lively and Barton’s work out of a malicious desire to smear conservatives, as the two claim, but because it is necessary to call out those like Lively and Barton who are clearly rewriting and twisting history in order to advance their own political goals.

WallBuilders Turns to Scott Lively in an to Attempt to Salvage David Barton's Reputation

Things have now gotten so desperate for David Barton and WallBuilders that they are reduced to calling in support from none other than Scott Lively to defend Barton's work by attacking Warren Throckmorton, Barton's primary critic.

Lively, as you know, is widely seen as the inspiration behind Uganda's notorious "kill the gays" legislation and the author of the book "The Pink Swastika," which claims that "the Nazi Party was conceived, organized and controlled throughout its short history by masculine-oriented male homosexuals who hid their sexual proclivities from the public, in part by publicly persecuting one group of their political enemies: out-of-the-closet effeminate-oriented homosexuals aligned with the German Communist Party."

Throckmorton has likewise been a vocal critic of Lively's "scholarship" and so the the geniuses at WallBuilders thought it would be a good idea of have Lively come on the program and explain that what is happening to Barton is the same thing that happened to him:

I had the same kind of run-in with Mr. Throckmorton myself. I'm the author of a history book along with Jewish researcher Kevin Abrams called "The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party." Very controversial but heavily documented and Mr. Throckmorton has attempted to attack my work in the very same way.

Why WallBuilders thinks this comparison helps Barton's cause is utterly beyond our comprehension.

Green and Lively also suggested that Throckmorton is responsible for some sort of widespread conspiracy against anti-gay Religious Right leaders because he is favorably quoted on "really nasty anti-Christian blogs" such as Box Turtle Bulletin, Joe.My.God, and Truth Wins Out and engages in interaction with us here at Right Wing Watch:

Green: I noticed in your article you said just Google his name along with these really nasty anti-Christian blogs like Box Turtle Bulletin, Truth Wins Out, Joe.My.God, I mean they got some really nasty stuff on there ...

Lively: Very nasty.

Green: And apparently he's kind of a champion of these guys. They really kind of see him as a hero. They quote him all the time.

...

Lively: There's a lot of interaction there between him and some of the other people and the group Right Wing Watch ...

Green: Oh yeah, those guys love us. They just love us. They love us so much that they watch us all the time and listen to us all the time. They're always taking stuff out of context and out of quotes ... so to all of our friends at Right Wing Watch and these other liberal blogs and whatnot listening today, we just want to say "hi, love ya, Lord bless you."

Lively: Amen. Hey, I want these people to be saved. I want them to be turned from the foolishness of their positions but I'm not simply going to sit back when they're attacking people who are standing for biblical truth.

It is interesting that Green would accuse us taking things out of context while categotically refusing to even acknowledge all of the instances we have documented of Barton spreading falsehoods, such as claiming that Constitution directly quotes the Bible "verbatim":

Anti-Gay Extremists Unite to Denounce US Embassy for Backing Czech LGBT Pride Festival

The US Embassy in the Czech Republic, as part of the State Department’s new LGBT rights initiative, is supporting a pride festival in Prague “to address discriminatory behavior based on sexual orientation and to promote a tolerant civil society and equal opportunities in the Czech Republic.” Already irate over Secretary Hillary Clinton’s speech on LGBT rights, American Religious Right activists joined their European, African and Latin American allies to denounce the Obama administration for “aggressively promoting the ‘gay’ agenda internationally” and leading a campaign of “cultural imperialism” [PDF]:

At the directive of the president of the United States, Washington is aggressively promoting the “gay’’ agenda internationally, including same-sex “marriage” and the stigmatization and marginalization of any who object to the same.

The Obama’s administration’s embrace of “same-sex marriage” has been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people. There have been 32 state referenda on marriage. In every one of them, voters endorsed the natural definition of marriage (a man and a woman). The North Carolina vote, on May 8, was 61% in favor of natural marriage.

It stands to reason, then, that anything which undermines the family – including changing the definition of marriage – is a breach of the State’s responsibility to protect this indispensable institution which precedes government and makes a stable and free society possible.

The Madrid Declaration of World Congress of Families VI (May 25-27, 2012) --which was unanimously adopted by more than 3,200 delegates from 72 countries --provides, in part: “We affirm the natural family to be the union of a man and a woman through marriage for the purposes of sharing love and joy, propagating children, providing their moral education, building a vital home economy, offering security in times of trouble, and binding the generations.”

Regarding “gay rights,” those caught up in this lifestyle have the same rights as other citizens. This does not include the “right” to force others to validate a lifestyle they find objectionable, for religious or other reasons. It also does not include the right of men to marry men and women to marry women.

The foregoing pseudo-rights do not advance human freedom and dignity but debase them.

We can not imagine a worse form of cultural imperialism than Washington trying to force approval of the “gay” agenda on societies with traditional values.

The list of signatories is mighty long, including former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay; Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver and Matt Barber; American Family Association’s Tim Wildmon; Catholic League’s Bill Donohue; Vision America’s Rick Scarborough; Rabbi Daniel Lapin; American Civil Rights Union’s Robert Knight; Concerned Women for America’s Janice Shaw Crouse; Pastor Jim Garlow; WND’s David Kupelian; TFP’s C. Preston Noell III; conservative activist Richard Viguerie; World Congress of Families’ Don Feder; Media Research Center’s Brent Bozell; Traditional Values Coalition’s Louis Sheldon and Andrea Lafferty; and the Southern Baptist Convention’s Paige Peterson.

Other activists like Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, Scott Lively of Defend the Family International and Sharon Slater of Family Watch International are also among the signatories, as is Mission America’s Linda Harvey, who believes people should refuse care for themselves and their children from openly gay doctors and nurses:

Another signatory was Yehuda Levin has claimed that gay marriage caused last year’s D.C. earthquake and linked gay rights to the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami and the 2010 Haiti earthquake:

The list even included former chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, who performs gay exorcisms:

Scott Lively Pushes Claim that Obama Was Once Married to a Man

Jerome Corsi worked his way up the ranks in Republican circles by swiftboating John Kerry, pushing birther conspiracies with Sheriff Joe Arpaio and writing books such as Where’s The Birth Certificate and Where’s The Real Birth Certificate Lately though, he has been peddling the conspiracy that Obama had a same-sex relationship with his Pakistani roommate, and was even married to him:

is gay is nothing new on the far right, and so it was no surprise to see that Scott Lively, the Religious Right hero for his work as an anti-gay activist in Uganda in trying to criminalize homosexuality, is pushing the claim himself:

Much like birtherism, which started out on the fringe but has since became a mainstream idea within the GOP, maybe it is only a matter of time before more and more conservative activists demand Obama “prove” he isn’t gay.

Barber: Scott Lively 'Really is a Hero' Who is Doing 'Kingdom's Work'

Earlier this year, a Ugandan gay rights group sued notorious anti-gay activist Scott Lively in US court for allegedly violating international law over his role in Uganda's proposed "Kill The Gays" bill.

Shortly thereafter, the notorious anti-gay activists at Liberty Counsel stepped up to represent  Lively  and on today's installment of "Faith and Freedom," Matt Barber and Harry Mihet explained that they were doing so because Lively is really a courageous hero who ought to be commended for the kingdom's work that he has been doing but who has become instead the victim of violence from gay activists:

Scott Lively Defends his Anti-Gay Activism in Uganda while Denying Role in Crafting the Anti-Homosexuality Bill

In an interview on Friday with Janet Mefferd, Religious Right activist Scott Lively repeatedly maintained that he had no role in crafting Uganda’s Anti-Homosexual Bill, which included a provision requiring capital punishment for gay people, and lashed out at a lawsuit filed against him by Sexual Minorities Uganda and the Center for Constitutional Rights over his role in the legislation.

He reiterated his assertion that George Soros and allied “globalists” were trying to “kick off a sexual revolution” in Uganda because they were upset about the growth of Christianity in the country, and said that in response to the “flood of sexual perversion that was coming into their country” Ugandan officials “decided they have to have some kind of new law, even though homosexuality was already illegal, they needed to strengthen the law [criminalizing homosexuality] and just sort of put their foot down.” Lively said he participated in a 2009 anti-gay conference to “prepare the leadership of the country to understand what the issue was because they knew they were going to come out with this bill”:

Lively: Uganda after Idi Amin had a Christian revival, they are still having a Christian revival, the president is a Christian, his wife is a very strong Christian, Janet Museveni, and as a result of that they went from having the highest AIDS rate to having the lowest AIDS rate in Africa. And of course that began to make waves around the world and it really upset the apple cart of the globalists, the George Soros types that use the sexual revolution as a way to bring countries under their sway. So when Uganda did this, they began trying to interject themselves into the country and kick off a sexual revolution there, starting with pornography. Back in 2002, I just by divine appointment became the keynote speaker for their first national conference on pro-family issues, it was against pornography and obscenity, it was the top people of the country, Cabinet ministers, Supreme Court justices; it was quite an honor to have been there, someone else canceled out and I got a phone call asking if I would go. Because of that, some of my enemies and there’s actually a documentary that labels me the ‘father of the Ugandan pro-family movement’ as a result of that.

What I told them was what I had learned in the United States, where this was coming from, who was behind this effort in their country—which they didn’t know—and how to respond to it. So they began at that point, you know, paying attention and sure enough that was what was going on. Over the next seven years they were not able to stop the flood of sexual perversion that was coming into their country as a result of their efforts, and by this time you’ve got homosexual men from the United States and from Europe going into Uganda and messing with the boys, there was a lot of sex tourism now as a result of this. So they decided they have to have some kind of new law, even though homosexuality was already legal, they need to strengthen the law and just sort of put their foot down. So this conference in 2009, in March, was to prepare the leadership of the country to understand what the issue was because they knew they were going to come out with this bill.

Right before a commercial break, Lively suggested that the Anti-Homosexuality Bill law wasn’t as bad as reported because, according to Lively, countries in Africa tend to “have extraordinarily harsh statutes but very lenient applications in the courts”:

Mefferd: It’s very important, as you pointed out, that you opposed this aspect of the bill that would impose the death penalty on a homosexual but this is what they’ve sort of zoned in on that in some respects you’re responsible for that, isn’t that the case?

Lively: That’s true. People need to understand that even though this really sort of offends our sensibilities when we hear of a law that that’s harsh, but it’s very, very typical of Africa, African nations have extraordinarily harsh statutes but very lenient applications in the courts.

Update: Lively later said that he proposed a bill that would make homosexuals either go to so-called ex-gay reparative therapy or face imprisonment, telling them to use an Oregon law that offers people arrested for drunk driving the choice of rehab or jail time as a model:

Mefferd: When you go back to 2009 and what you actually said during the conference, was there anything that you did say at that time that gave them actual fodder for screaming and yelling, do you regret anything you said—

Lively: No, no, no.

Mefferd: Or do you stand by what you said?

Lively: First of all as regards to the bill, the bill hadn’t been written yet, I had an opportunity, I spoke to members of the Ugandan Parliament in their assembly hall, and there was several other speakers and the minister of ethics and integrity was there and he made a few comments. My suggestion was, rather than focusing on punishment, you should focus on therapy. I gave my own personal testimony, before I became a Christian, an instrumental factor was I got arrested for drunk driving and they gave me the option in Oregon of taking diversion, as they called it, or losing my license and going to jail. I chose the therapy option, it was one of the best things that ever happened, it was in that rehab center that I got down on my knees and surrendered my life to Christ, so I gave that as my testimony to the Ugandans saying this is the model you should follow, you could be the first country in the world to offer this as a standard, a national standard, that we want to help people overcome this sin.

How Scott Lively Tried to Stop Soros-Funded 'Infiltrators' from 'Homosexualizing' Uganda

Last week, Bryan Fischer welcomed Scott Lively on to his radio program to talk about the lawsuit he is facing stemming from his involvement in Uganda and that country's draconian anti-gay legislation.  Normally, the AFA posts video clips from Fischer's programs, but didn't do so for the segment with Lively, but we managed to track down the podcast of the March 22 episode on iTunes.

During the interview, Lively offered a long explanation of how he came to be involved in Uganda in the first place, beginning back in 2002 when he was brought in to explain to Ugandan officials and religious leaders how George Soros-funded "infiltrators" were flooding the nation with pornography in an effort to "homosexualize" their Christian society:

Uganda, in the 1990s, entered into an incredible Christian revival and, as a result of that revival, Christian values were just infusing the whole society and they went from having the highest level of AIDS in Africa to the lowest through the promotion of abstinence and fidelity in marriage, you know, the core Christian values about sexuality.

Because of that, that represents a huge threat to the globalists who use the sexual revolution and the whole Planned Parenthood Federation and the global homosexual movement, they use all those components are a population control method as they gather more and more power for themselves.

So what Uganda did represented a major threat to them, so they began infiltrating the country. George Soros, for example, I don't know what stage of the process, but he went in like he always does, bought media and set up grassroots activist groups. And then, starting in the late 90's, early 2000's they started, these infiltrators, starting introducing pornography into this very conservative society.

And so, in 2002, to combat this sort of threat to the Ugandan culture, the government held a conference against pornography and obscenity. I had the privilege of being the keynote speaker at the conference - the Lord really had orchestrated this because I knew how this was happening; I knew who was doing this and what it's all about, so I was able to just lay it out. I said this is who's doing it, this is what's going to happen next, and you need to organize in your society to stop this group of people from homosexualizing your society.

According to Lively, this original effort to stop these Soros "infiltrators" from "homosexualizing" Uganda failed, and so he was brought back in 2009 to deliver another presentation which reportedly inspired the anti-gay legislation over which he is now being sued.

Liberty Counsel Will Defend Scott Lively

Last week, a Ugandan gay rights group sued anti-gay activist Scott Lively in US court for allegedly violating international law over his role in Uganda's proposed "Kill The Gays" bill.

So naturally the good folks at Liberty Counsel have stepped up and agreed to defend Lively in this case:

Liberty Counsel has agreed to represent Rev. Scott Lively, an evangelical pastor who was sued in a Massachusetts federal court by a foreign group called Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG).

...

The suit is a direct attempt to silence Rev. Lively because of his speech about homosexuality and pornography ... Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, commented: “This lawsuit against Rev. Scott Lively is a gross attempt to use a vague international law to silence, and eventually criminalize, speech by U.S. citizens on homosexuality and moral issues. This suit should cause everyone to be concerned, because it a direct threat against freedom of speech.”

Lively: Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs are Designed to Recruit Kids

Yesterday we posted a clip taken from the talk Scott Lively recently delivered to a church in California entitled "The Global Threat of Homosexuality" in which he declared that homosexuality is not a sin just like any other sin, but rather a warning sign from God that our society is on the verge of collapse.

Obviously, that was not the only absurd claim he made during his hour long presentation, as he also found time to go after the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN ) and accuse them of creating Gay-Straight Alliances in schools are part of an effort to seduce lonely kids and recruit them into homosexuality:

They changed the name from the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Teachers Network to the The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network because the "Teachers Network" gave it away too much, it was too obvious that this was a bunch of activists in the schools. So they changed it to "Education Network" to obscure that just before they started launching what a now called Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs in high schools. And there are over a thousand of them - actually, there were over a thousand of them five years ago, God knows how many there are now.

These are activist clubs in the public schools in which these teenagers ... many of these kids, when you see the kids that get wrapped up in this, they're the misfits, for the most part, they're the kids that don't have friends in other places, they're chubby or they have a bunch of acne or they're socially awkward and then the Gay-Straight Alliance Club reaches out to these kids and brings them in and then they start adopting a gay identity.

And then they will take these kids out, wherever there's these clubs in the schools there's almost always homosexual community centers, gay and lesbian community centers - usually taxpayer-funded these days - where they will go after school or in the evenings and that's where they meet up with adult homosexuals. And you find often the relationships between these kids are with much older people and that this is a system for recruiting kids into homosexuality.

And it's all over our country and almost nobody knows anything about it because everybody's afraid to talk about it.

Scott Lively, The Rainbow Flag, and the End of Days

Earlier this month, Scott Lively delivered an hour long speech entitled "The Global Threat of Homosexuality" at Resurrection Life of Jesus church in Sacramento and it was, as you can imagine, chock full of all sorts of anti-gay lunacy as Lively sought to make clear that homosexuality is not a sin just like any other sin, but rather a warning sign that our society is on the verge of collapse:

I want to just attack this idea that people have raised that homosexuality is just another sin because that's not true and the more that we embrace that, the more that we accept that as a concept, the more distant we are from understanding the warning that God gives us when we see this phenomenon in our society.

When you see the gay pride parade going down the street in the major cities, what banner are they flying over them? They're flying the banner of the rainbow. What is the rainbow? The rainbow is God's covenant with man never to destory the Earth by water again ... So there's an enormous warning there and, at the same time, we're also given a clue as to what's happening with apostasy in the modern age when people will raise the rainbow flag - and there's a passage in Isiah, I forget the chapter and verse, that says "they parade their sin like Sodom." And that is what is exactly going on with people who have defined themselves by this particular behavior and lifestyle. They parade their sin like Sodom. And they do it under the rainbow banner almost as if they're saying "God, you can do nothing to us" because they don't believe that Sodom was destroyed because of homosexuality so they aren't learning the lesson from that.

In fifty years we have seen this tiny group of people - they really only represent about two percent of the population - that has grown from being a reviled subculture to now having more power in the legislatures and courtrooms of the world than the Christian church does. In fifty years! Nothing has ever grown that fast globally, nothing. Not Islam, not Darwinism, not Marxism, nothing has ever grown that fast. Which shows you that this is a spiritual phenomenon that is unparallelled and that's why God has selected it, singled out this particular behavior to be the indicator of extreme apostasy, the furthest edge of deviance and the warning sign that things are in really, really bad shape.

NOM Promotes Patrick Wooden and AFTAH's Rally against the SPLC

The National Organization for Marriage is now promoting last week’s rally hosted by virulent anti-gay activists Peter LaBarbera and Patrick Wooden, of ‘gay diapers’ fame, against the Southern Poverty Law Center. The rally included speeches from not only Wooden and LaBarbera but also a representative from Scott Lively’s Abiding Truth Ministries, who said in a statement that he is “asking God himself to destroy this organization.” Wooden, who spoke alongside NOM president Brian Brown at a North Carolina rally for a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage, has said that homosexuality is a “wicked, deviant, immoral, self-destructive, anti-human sexual behavior” and that gay men are forced “to wear a diaper or a butt plug just to be able to contain their bowels” as a result of “the problems that homosexuals have with their rectums.”

The rally was organized by Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, the group led by LaBarbera who has said that gay rights is “Satan’s plan” and “Satan’s point of attack on the United States,” claimed “Oprah [Winfrey] will have to answer to her Creator” for “promoting” homosexuality, wondered if gay TSA agents were deliberately groping passengers, attacked the US for trying “to lecture the Ugandans about homosexuality” by opposing their “kill the gays” bill, and agreed with Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern that homosexuality is more dangerous than terrorism and the greatest threat to America.

NOM is not alone in pushing Wooden and LaBarbera’s work. American Family Association president Tim Wildmon and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins recently had Wooden on their radio show Today’s Issues where they lauded his stance against gay rights.

Scott Lively Gives the 'Gift of Homophobia'

Scott Lively has decided that the best way to celebrate this holiday season is by spreading "the gift of homophobia" by making his book "Redeeming the Rainbow: A Christian Response to the ’Gay’ Agenda" available for free to everyone:

I’m feeling generous this holiday season, and so I’ve decided to give a gift that is sure to be remembered for years to come. It is the gift of “Homophobia” and, as one of the world’s leading “Homophobes,” I want to share it with the entire world, by giving away free copies of my “Homophobic” textbook “Redeeming the Rainbow: A Christian Response to the ’Gay’ Agenda.” You can download it in PDF form without charge at http://www.defendthefamily.com/rtr/. The file is small enough to send it on by email to your friends and family.

Of course, I’m being sarcastic about the term “homophobia” since that is defined as an anxiety disorder characterized by hate and fear of homosexuals. Who would want that?

What I’m actually offering is the Gift of Knowledge, grounded in an authentic Biblical world-view, earned in part through 20 years of faithful service to the cause of Christ, received in part through no effort of my own by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit -- all glory to God.

...

This is the most important book I have ever written, and I’ve crafted it to be the very best work of which I am capable. It is easy to read and use, but contains no fluff. It contains all of the most important insights and observations I have acquired on this issue during 20 years of front-lines activism.

In other times I might have been more possessive of this book, and more profit-minded. But our situation here in America and throughout Christian civilization is dire. The homosexual agenda must be stopped, and contributing toward that goal is more important to me than financial remuneration.

Please accept this book as my gift. Read it and use it to help advance our pro-family cause.

Lively Warns That The "Truly Evil" Gay Rights Movement Signals "The End Of The Age"

In an interview last month with Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, Scott Lively of Defend the Family International said that proponents of “the homosexual agenda” are aiming for “the destruction of Christian civilization,” and that the gay rights movement is a sign of “the End of the Age.” Prior to discussing the “evil” gay rights movement, Lively told LaBarbera that kids should use the phrase “that’s so gay” to connote the “disgusting nature of homosexuality,” arguing that children are using the derogatory phrase “simply naturally” because they know that “they’re just talking about sodomy, and it’s something that’s ugly and should be attached to things that are unpleasant and wrong.”

Listen:

LaBarbera: I know a lot of homosexuals want to ban the phrase “that’s so gay,” which a lot of kids use, and you know what, why should the word “gay” only be attached—the homosexual activists stole the word “gay,” it didn’t used to mean what it means today, it didn’t used to mean homosexuality, why should it only be—why should it now be allowed to be only used in a positive light?

Lively: The adoption of the word “gay” to replace “homosexual” was an attempt to sanitize homosexuality in the common vocabulary, and simply the nature, the disgusting nature of homosexuality has dirtied up the world. So now, simply naturally, children have started using this phrase “that’s so gay” essentially recognizing that they’re just talking about sodomy, and it’s something that’s ugly and should be attached to things that are unpleasant and wrong.

Lively: We’ve never faced in the history of Christianity, we have really never faced as much as a threat as we do right now from the homosexual agenda, and it really seems obvious to those who have been on the frontlines who have had that overview picture of what’s happening in society at large that this issue, somehow, seems to be the issue of the End of the Age.

Lively: I stand against the movement that they have created as a truly evil institution that’s goal, that’s goal, is the destruction of Christian civilization.

Lively Laments Failure Of 1992 Effort To Require Teaching That Gays Are "Abnormal, Wrong, Unnatural, And Perverse"

In the same interview with Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality in which Scott Lively revealed that he is contemplating filing defamation lawsuits because he says that false statements about anti-gay activism are posing a threat to his life, he also lamented the failure of a 1992 effort to pass a constitutional amendment in Oregon that would have declared homosexuality to be "abnormal, wrong, unnatural, and perverse."

At the time, Lively was serving as Director of Communications for the Oregon Citizens Alliance, the organization responsible for a ballot initiative known as Measure 9 that would have required public schools to teach that "homosexuality, pedophilia, sadism and masochism [are] abnormal, wrong, unnatural, and perverse and that these behaviors are to be discouraged and avoided."

The measure failed, much to Lively's dismay, because had it passed the "[gay] agenda would have been stopped cold":

Lively: I was the Communications Director for the Oregon Citizens Alliance and we had filed a ballot measure for the 1992 election. We filed it in 1991 and it set off a firestorm that really is the most intense political battle on the homosexual issue that has ever taken place in America. It was really like the gates of Hell kicked open and all the demons came out. Unbelievable level of hostility and manipulation and dirty tricks.

LaBarbera: What you Measure 9 have done?

Lively: Well, it would have amended the state Constitution to define homosexuality as unnatural and perverse - abnormal, unnatural, and perverse; we used the three words unnatural, abnormal, and perverse.

And by doing that, it would have stopped all of the government promotion of the homosexual agenda. This measure would have stopped all of that. It would have, frankly, triggered a landslide of similar measures across the country and we wouldn't be having these conversations today because the agenda would have been stopped cold.

Lively Contemplating Defamation Lawsuit Because "Some Crazy Vietnam Vet" Might Be Induced To Shoot Him

Peter LaBarbera has now posted the second part of his interview with Scott Lively about the act of vandalism against the site that hosted LaBarbera's anti-gay banquet at which Lively received the "American Truth Teller" award.

During the discussion, Lively echoed the claims of activists like LaBarbera and Linda Harvey and Sally Kern who are asserting that criticism of their anti-gay activism constitutes a threat to their physical safety, as Lively revealed that he is considering filing defamation lawsuits against individuals who assert that he was responsible for Uganda's "kill the gays" legislation, saying that the claims represent a "serious security threat" to him because it could induce "some crazy Vietnam vet" to put a bullet in his head:

I was specifically accused outside the AFTAH banquet, a man standing outside on a loud speaker saying outright that I went to Uganda for the purpose of orchestrating this bill, which is an absolute falsehood. This is actionable defamation, frankly.

Defamation is a false statement of fact - of fact, not opinion - a false statement of fact that is made for the purpose of damaging another person's reputation and which does cause them damage.

And so here you have all that in a nutshell: you have a false statement of fact - you cannot prove this, there's not a shred of evidence, they're just making this up from whole cloth.

Now organizations like the New York Times and some of these others, they're smart enough to know how to phrase these things so it creates the impression or the implication without them actually making the false statement of fact. But these bozos outside of the AFTAH banquet are actually putting their foot right in their mouth with this statement. I'm still contemplating whether I'm going to file an action - defamation is very difficult to win and frankly I would prefer to spend my time doing other things.

But, nevertheless, this just shows you the mentality of these people. They don't care what the truth is. They have no evidence to support the allegation that they're making. But what they are doing with this is creating a serious security threat to my person because all it takes is for one kook. And so, with that kind of hysteria being circulated among the fringe of these sexual radicals, you know, what's going to stop some crazy Vietnam vet or somebody else that's stopped taking their meds from just shooting me in the head as a service to humanity?

Lively: Gays Seek "Complete Control Of Society"

Scott Lively of Defend the Family International appeared on Peter LaBarbera’s Americans For Truth Radio Hour today to discuss his win of this year’s “American Truth Teller” award. Lively and LaBarbera joked about how gays and lesbians deny “trying to corrupt the minds of young people” and “recruit” them into homosexuality. Lively explained that gays and lesbians deny what he claims is “most true” about them, including false claims that homosexuality is linked to pedophilia, AIDS, and the recruitment of “not just children but everyone they can get their hands on.” He concluded that gay people are in “pursuit of the complete control of society” and seek “absolute control” in order to “begin controlling every person within their grip”:

LaBarbera: Scott, are you saying that homosexual activists are actually trying to corrupt the minds of young people?

Lively: It can’t be, no, how can anyone say such a thing?

LaBarbera: It’s the only issue of which there is no issue where there is no influence at all from the older to the younger, right Scott? Lively: The things that they scream about the loudest are the things that are the most true and the most damaging to them. The connection between homosexuality and AIDS, the connection between homosexuality and pedophilia, the recruitment of children, not just children but everyone they can get their hands on into the homosexual lifestyle, and the desire of the movement to achieve power.

LaBarbera: They are all about demonizing Christians like us, especially Christians, there’s always a special hatred for the Christians, and so like you said Scott, ‘anything it takes,’ it’s a utilitarian movement.

Lively: And the question is, why? Why do they do this? Because we stand in the way of their pursuit of the complete control of society. This isn’t about tolerance, it’s not acceptance, it isn’t even about accepting all things gay; this is about absolute control. And every place that they got it, and they do have it in some places, they use it, and they punish anyone who disagrees with them and then they begin controlling every person within their grip.

Pastor Scott Lively yesterday in an interview with Sandy Rios of the American Family Association warned that homosexuality “is the issue of the End Times.” According to Lively, the advance of gay rights will lead to the persecution and killing of Christians like in the early days of the Church and is “another sign that I believe that we’re close to the end.” He argued that “the last straw for God before He brought [Noah’s] Flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage” and said homosexuality “represents the outer... American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer yesterday on Focal Point defended his close ally Scott Lively, downplaying his work shaping Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill and advocating for the imprisonment of gay people as simply giving “talks supporting natural marriage.” But Fischer, who shares Lively’s views on criminalizing LGBT status and blaming gays for the Holocaust, asserted that Lively “did the same kind of stuff over there that we do every day on Focal Point.” Fischer said the left seeks to “exterminate pro-family voices” and... Rick Santorum must be proud that his new employer, WorldNetDaily, is promoting pastor Scott Lively’s endorsement of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill. Lively helped craft the original bill, which called for the death penalty for gays and lesbians, but ultimately distanced himself from the legislation that made homosexuality a crime punishable by death. This week Lively, who has always supported the criminalization of homosexuality, came out in favor of a proposed version of the bill that swaps out the death penalty in favor of life in prison for gays and lesbians.
