The Response: We Watch So You Don't Have To

For those of you who had better things to do with your time then spend seven hours on a Saturday watching the extended Christian Rock-jam session that was Gov. Rick Perry's "The Response" rally, we put together a short video featuring the appearances by all of your favorite Religious Right and elected leaders, including Perry, David Barton, Tony Perkins, Penny Nance, Gov. Rick Scott, Gov. Sam Brownback, Jim Garlow, John Hagee and finally even a quick shot of Perry giving some love to Don Wildmon of the AFA, the founder of the SPLC-designated hate group which footed the bill for this prayer event:

Right Wing Leftovers

  • GOProud has reportedly been dumped by CPAC, though the group insists that it has not officially been informed.
  • WorldNetDaily continues to promote "The Pink Swastika."
  • Harry Jackson and Tony Perkins complain that when the government helps those in need, it robs Christians of an opportunity to evangelize.
  • Florida Gov. Rick Scott will not attend "The Response" but will send a video message.
  • Bryan Fischer is disappointed in Herman Cain for apologizing for his anti-Muslim statements.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • It looks like Newt Gingrich's entire campaign staff resigned en masse today, but Gingrich and his ego will soldier on.
  • Tim Pawlenty has secured the coveted Joe "You Lie" Wilson endorsement.
  • FRC says Govs. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) and Christine Gregoire (D-Wash.) are matching Rick Perry's prayer rally with days of prayer in their own states.
  • Herman Cain surprises nobody by saying being gay is a sin and a choice.
  • Another informative poll from the AFA.
  • Apparently, the problem with George W. Bush was that he was really just too moderate: "A lot of people who had been in the [Reagan] administration were systematically thrown out by the Bush crowd. They only wanted people who were more pragmatic...moderate...middle-of-the-road and establishment Republicans. And look at what we ultimately got -- we ultimately got Barack Obama."

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Florida Gov. Rick Scott is meeting with the Council for National Policy.
  • Sarah Palin says she has the "fire in the belly" needed to run for president, which I translate as means "people please pay attention to me."
  • It seems that God just didn't want Mike Huckabee to run for president.
  • Finally, John Stemberger reports that the Florida Bar has dismissed the complaint that was brought against him over his representation of Rifqa Bary.

Right Wing Round-Up

Right Wing Leftovers

  • The Associated Press has called the Alaska Senate race for Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
  • This New York Times profile reveals Sarah Palin to be remarkably petty, petulant, and uninformed. Not that any of that is a surprise.
  • The Christian Family Coalition is demanding that Republican Gov.-elect Rick Scott divest from QuePasa Corp., on the grounds that the company sells "pornography to Latinos."
  • Shockingly, none of the conservative Tea Party leaders in Congress want to take a seat on the Appropriation Committee because they might be required to actually take responsibility for their rhetoric.
  • Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire won't display the nativity scene that was sent out by the Catholic League.
  • Finally, isn't it amazing how the Religious Right sees no need for accommodating religious beliefs when those beliefs are held by non-Christians?

Jackson Named "The Paul Weyrich Faith Community Leader of the Year"

Speaking of Bishop Harry Jackson, is seems as if he was recently honored at the first-ever Paul Weyrich Awards Dinner, along with a gaggle of other right-wing activists:

Well over 230 conservative leaders and guests gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the life and legacy of Paul Weyrich, a colossus in the conservative movement, who perhaps now in death even more than in life reminds conservatives that while they hold a diversity of views, a real bond exists uniting them into one conservative coalition.

Fiscal conservatives, pro-life and pro-family leaders, foreign policy and national security conservatives of many different groups found themselves together in the same room for dinner at Georgetown's Four Seasons Hotel for the first-ever Paul Weyrich Awards Dinner. There they paid tribute the man they knew as "Paul" and recognized those contemporary leaders who share his broad vision of conservatism.

...

Coalitions for America awarded Bishop Harry Jackson, the senior Black pastor of Hope Christian Church and leader of the fight against same-sex "marriage" in Washington D.C., the "Faith Community Leader of the Year" award. The bishop later spoke to LSN and said that unity is "something we have struggled with these last few years." However, he was encouraged by the strides being made, especially with the recent Manhattan Declaration ..."I come at these things as a person of faith," Bishop Jackson told LSN. "None of the stuff that I do I consider political really at all," emphasizing that he views his fight primarily as a "moral engagement based on faith."

"But [Paul] was such a strategist in terms of saying, 'take your principles, and then they have an impact,' as opposed to just sitting on the outside saying 'what to do, what to do.'"

The night honored many conservative finalists and all leaders outstanding in their fields and in their contributions to their movement:

The Paul Weyrich award winners were Media Person of the Year: Glenn Beck; New Media Person of the Year: Andrew Breitbart and Erick Erickson; Courageous Citizen of the Year: ACORN investigators Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe; National Legislator of the Year: Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.); Local Elected Official of the Year: Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio; Business Person of the Year: Whole Foods CEO John Mackey and Solantic Chairman Rick Scott; Faith Community Leader of the Year: pro-family leader Bishop Harry Jackson of Hope Christian Church; Conservative Hall of Fame - Lifetime Contribution: Phyllis Schlafly; Youth Leader of the Year: Students for Life executive director Kristan Hawkins; and Benefactor of the Year: mutual fund executive Foster Friess.

TEA Partiers To Descend on DC And Dwarf Inauguration Numbers

Last week I mentioned that the National Taxpayer Protest is scheduled for September 12.  Hosted by a variety of right-wing and anti-tax groups like the National Taxpayers Union, Americans For Tax Reform, Young America’s Foundation, The Club for Growth and many others, the effort seeks to bring millions of Americans to Washington D.C. for an organized and centralized TEA party-like protest:

It’s time to take the tea party movement directly to Washington, D.C. Please join thousands of local organizers and grassroots Americans from across the country as we gather in our nation’s capital to deliver a message to the politicians: Enough!

We’ve had enough of the out of control spending, the bailouts, the growth of big government and the soaring deficits. And we reject the future tax increases to pay for all of this spending and debt down the road. We are gathering on 9-12-2009 to deliver our message in person that we’ve had enough!

And they have some pretty big plans:

"Our mission is to present a unified voice of concern over the current administration's policies regarding taxation, our economy, foreign and domestic policy, as well as our individual constitutional rights as American citizens," said Grassfire national coordinator Darla Dawald in an open invitation to the public to join the Sept. 12 taxpayer march in Washington, D.C. "America is in trouble, the problems and issues are broad and complex and it will take a monumental effort to stop, change and reverse the destructive course that this administration and Congress has put us on. Together, We the People can effect that change!"

On Sept. 10 and 11, the groups will host grassroots training seminars and Sept. 11 "We'll Never Forget" memorial. The taxpayer march is scheduled to begin at the Lincoln Memorial at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and culminate with a rally at 1 p.m. in front of the Capitol.

The National Taxpayer Protest website offers detailed information on travel and hotel accommodations, including directions to the event. Tea party attendees may RSVP there as well.

More than 9,000 people have already registered through the protest website, and the number is growing rapidly.

"Obama managed to have 4 million show up at the Capitol grounds," Dawald told WND. "We need to do the same if not more. The financial situation is dire, but as one gentleman said, 'If I have to sell my belongings and crawl there, I will – because it's that important!'"

I assume that when Dawald says Obama had 4 million show up at the Capitol, she's referring to the crowd that attended his inauguration, although the estimated size for that event was actually only 1.8 million.

But heck, if they want to set 4 million attendees as their goal, who am I to complain?

And frankly, with a thrilling proposedl line-up like this, I can't see how they could possibly fail to reach that lofty goal:
