Barton: “I Guarantee You They Are Getting Homosexual Indoctrination” in Public Schools

The zealous opposition to anti-bullying initiatives in schools from Religious Right groups is based on the premise that such programs are surreptitious ways to “promote homosexuality” or disseminate “homosexual propaganda” in schools. On WallBuildersLive, faux-historian David Barton and co-host Rick Green brought on Brian Camenker of the stringently anti-gay group MassResistance to discuss ways “homosexual activists” are the real bullies and manufactured the whole problem of bullying in the first place. With more scrutiny given to the problem of the pervasive harassment of LGBT students (including the case of one Minnesota teenager who committed suicide last week), right-wing groups and leaders have become even more fanatical in their hostility to anti-bullying programs.

Green and Camenker, who described gay-rights groups as “fascist,” agree that “homosexual activists” invented the problem of bullying and became the bullies themselves:

Camenker: It often takes parents standing up to the homosexual activists and it’s hard to do, but you’re right. This is a very aggressive, fascist type of movement and these guys define the term ‘bullies.’

Green: I think you’re right and the perception I guess and maybe a lot of teachers, principals, superintendents out there have bought into this perception is that they are only the ones being bullied, the homosexual lobby is, so they’re hypersensitive to the other side of it.

Barton later claims that “homosexual indoctrination” is found in the entire public school system and tells parents that they “better get on top of what’s being taught to your kids.”

Barton: There’s a whole lost of this that goes on that parents don’t even hear about but it is going on. All this bullying stuff, as Brian pointed out, it’s not the schools that are doing bullying, it’s the people from outside the schools coming in and saying “oh you got a bullying problem and we need to teach a course for you.” The people living there didn’t see any problem. But it’s these outside agenda-

Green: They’re the very thing they say they’re going in to stop is what they’re doing themselves.

Barton: They generate and start. It goes back to the question Jesus asks, “What’s it profit you to gain the whole world and lose your soul?” The question I gotta ask is, what’s it worth to you to gain everything you want and lose your kids?

Because unless you’re willing to monitor what’s going on in that classroom, I guarantee you they are getting homosexual indoctrination. I don’t care whether you’re in a rural area or not, because this is so much a part of textbooks, so much a part of curricular stuff, so much a part of what goes on with other kids. We see it too often in lawsuits, we hear of accounts like this, and we hear of dozens of other accounts where nothing’s ever done. You better get on top of what’s being taught to your kids.

Mat Staver Claims that Obama’s “Radical” Support for Same-Sex Partner Benefits Led to “Tidal Wave Against Him”

Liberty University Law School Dean and Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver joined David Barton and Rick Green on WallBuilders Live to denounce Obama and the Justice Department for failing to win cases on Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA), which a federal judge in Boston ruled unconstitutional in July. Staver believes that Obama’s record of supporting gay rights undermined government action to effectively defend DOMA, and Staver went on to attack Obama for extending a number of health benefits to same-sex partners of eligible federal employees. According to Staver, Obama’s support for such benefits displays his “radical, liberal policies” that he believes voters overwhelmingly oppose and rejected in the midterm election:

He’s writing these executive orders as though that is able to change law, it’s not able to change law. What Obama’s trying to do is use a sleight of hand, an under the table kind of approach, to in fact change the law through these executive orders. He’s acting as though the law’s on his side, that it would include benefits for homosexuality and transsexuals and others. So he is forcing that through the system even though the laws are to the contrary. This is exactly what ultimately resulted in this tidal wave against him on Tuesday during the midterm elections, his radicalism and his forced agenda on the American people despite the fact that the people of America reject those radical, liberal policies.

However, Staver would have difficulties reconciling his argument with polling: a September poll conducted by the Associated Press shows that 58% of Americans agree that “couples of the same sex [should] be entitled to the same government benefits as married couples of the opposite sex,” and 52% even support federal recognition of same-sex marriages. Staver may be using Barton’s tremendously flawed reading on how opposition to same-sex marriage impacted the midterm election, while in reality “only 1%” of voters said “same-sex marriage was the single most important issue.”

Barton’s co-host Rick Green goes on to laud Staver for his role in training Religious Right activists at the Law School of Liberty University, which was founded by the late Jerry Falwell, to use the “right Biblical worldview” to shape government, politics, and the courts:

What they’re doing in terms of raising up this next generation. Not only the lawyers graduating from Liberty Law School but think of how many more people with the right Biblical worldview coming through a school like that will want to go be the bureaucrats, and we always think of that word as a negative word but the Justice Department and all these places and all these folks that work there in the past mostly did not have that Biblical worldview because we discouraged young people from going into those arenas. But because of what Mat’s doing and other schools out there doing that kind of thing I think we’re gonna have a lot more people coming into government for good reasons.

Perhaps Green wants more appointees like Monica Goodling, the graduate of Rev. Pat Robertson’s Regent University Law School, who drew attention for her Religious Right activism in the Bush Administration’s Justice Department. Goodling was implicated in the Bush White House’s drive to politicize the Justice Department and replace US Attorneys with partisan appointees. The Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General “concluded that the evidence showed that Goodling violated both federal law and Department policy, and therefore committed misconduct, when she considered political or ideological affiliations in hiring decisions for candidates for career positions within the Department.” For example, Goodling fired a US Attorney as a result of rumors that she was a lesbian and denied a promotion to a prosecutor because his wife was a Democratic activist. While Goodling was not a graduate of Liberty, Regent University has the same goals of training young right wing activists for government roles to advance the Religious Right’s agenda.

Barton: The Smithsonian, like Satan after the Crucifixion of Jesus, Regrets Hide/Seek Exhibit

David Barton was joined today by Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA) to make patently false accusations about the Smithsonian and the recently censored Hide/Seek exhibit. Religious Right activists like Bill Donohue and Brent Bozell successfully pushed House Republican leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor to threaten the Smithsonian’s funding over a video, A Fire in My Belly, which featured eleven seconds of a crucifix with ants on it. The video was about the struggle with AIDS, and it was far from the first time an artist used the image of Christ to display suffering and stigmatization. Ultimately, the Smithsonian censored the exhibit and pulled the video, but many right wing activists and Republican leaders want to strip the Smithsonian of its funding altogether and have the entire exhibit pulled.

Barton repeatedly falsely stated that Hide/Seek, which was about the struggle of gay and lesbian Americans, was actually a “Christmas exhibit” that was being paid for with tax dollars. However, Hide/Seek, which is in the National Portrait Gallery, is separate from the Smithsonian’s “Holidays on Display” exhibit, which is located in the National Museum of American History. Barton and his co-host Rick Green also wrongly maintained that the exhibit was “taxpayer funded,” even though Hide/Seek only used private funds and did not receive any taxpayer money.

Barton: If you go into the Smithsonian this year for Christmas, you'll find that the display is what they call "homoerotic," that is the title they give at the Smithsonian. And as you walk among, you get to see all these wonderful little pictures - and I'm not going to be real graphic, but I'm going to give you the tone of this - you take your family and you go through this nice little Christmas exhibit and, on look there, there's a picture of two naked brothers kissing - what a wonderful Christmas ... and there's Ellen DeGeneres, except she's grabbing her breast. And over here, look, there's Jesus on the cross, except he's covered with ants.

Green: This is not some private museum, this is the Smithsonian, paid for with tax dollars.

Barton: This is not a club that has a cover charge to it. This is the Smithsonian museum, this is their Christmas exhibit. Christmas exhibit!

Green: How demented do you have to be for this to be your Christmas exhibit? How messed up ...

Barton: Hold on, you got the wrong pronoun in there: how demented do we have to be, because we're the ones paying for this ... we're doing this guys, this is our Christmas exhibit that we have up at the nation's capital right now with our money. You and I have been paying money all year long so that this could be up at the Smithsonian.

Later, Barton claimed that the Smithsonian must regret hosting the Hide/Seek exhibit just like Satan regretted the crucifixion of Jesus:

Green: These people that are making these decisions, David, have they been inside the Beltway for so long and in their protected government job, only running around with their fellow liberals for so long, that they're that out of touch with the American people that they wouldn't realize that this is going to be grossly offensive to most Americans?

Barton: Well, there's two things going here - please tell me any homosexual-type activity that is not grossly offensive to most Americans, which is why they keep it out public view most times ... so it’s the kind of thing where they know it’s offensive but then every once in a while they feel emboldened. as they do right now with what’s been in DC for the last four years. They feel that hey, you know, the nation's finally caught up to us and then they do something stupid like this.

And I go back to Scripture where it says if Satan had known what would happen with crucifying Jesus, he never would have done it. It’s the kind of thing where they just miscalculate every once in a while, and I hope this is a miscalculation.

I love the fact that the new Speaker, [John] Boehner, jumped down their throats at the Smithsonian on this. He says, “You will get that out or you will not have funding, period.” They took it down within about 24 hours - they took part of it down, they still have a lot of it up. But they were showing videos - can’t even describe the videos - but this is part of the Christmas exhibit.

They still have the pictures up. Jesus is still up covered with ants on the cross, they still have all the sacrilegious stuff up, but they did take other stuff down. And they admitted that people coming through, virtually everybody was yelling at them for having it.

Of course, only one single person who actually saw the exhibit, which opened on October 30th, complained to the Smithsonian. The right wing activists and Republican leaders who demanded censorship admitted that they never visited the exhibit themselves, although A Fire in my Belly was censored following their outcry, despite Barton’s claim that “Jesus is still up covered with ants.”

Barton went on to compare the exhibit to child pornography and said he believes that the Smithsonian’s decision to host Hide/Seek was a result of the Obama Administration’s purported leniency to obscenity. Barton said that “since Obama has taken office and Holder as the Attorney General they have not prosecuted one obscenity case” since in their eyes “child pornography doesn’t exist” and “is fine.” But Barton’s allegation is completely untrue: Holder’s Department of Justice has been prosecuting such cases under Obama, and the National Law Journal reports that “in 2009, 20 defendants were charged with obscenity crimes.”

Barton and Scarborough Lament DeLay's Conviction

Today's eipsode of WallBuilders Live radio program was dedicated to lamenting the tragedy of Tom DeLay's conviction for money laundering with DeLay's BFF Rick Scarobough, who says that he takes solace in knowing that this nation will one day be called to judgment by God:

Scarborough: Tom DeLay is a very close personal friend of mine. I got to know Congressman DeLay when I was pastoring for twelve years in his district. I found him to be a genuine, Godly man and consequently when this indictment came down and subsequent trial began back on November the first I determined that I was going to sit at his side, minister to her and his wife. And consequently I made trips every week for three straight weeks to Austin to monitor the trial and prayed with the family. And I must confess, at least from my perspective, we've had a grave injustice carried forth that I pray God will intervene and correct.

Rick Green: You know I ask you first, Pastor, before we get into the details, you're someone who loves this country like we do - when you see this sort of travesty of justice and abuse of the judicial system, how do you maintain hope?

Scarborough: Well, I keep my eyes focused on Jesus. I know biblically there comes a day when a nation that tramples under foot the word of God finally is called to judgment.

Later, David Barton rails against the fact that DeLay was not allowed to choose his own jury so that he could be judged by a bunch of consevative Christians who could have then ignored the law and found him not guilty, just as the Founding Fathers intended:

Green: I'll ask you the same question I asked Rick: how do you get peace when you look at these kinds of abuses of what should be the best system in the world.

Barton: Well, it's a problem and one of the things that has happened is there is a check and balance here that did not get used, and that check and balance was the jury system.

And the judges have so corrupted the jury system ... let me give you an example: we have all these cases from the Founding Era of jurors and you always here this thing, a "jury of your peers." Do you know what that literally meant? It meant that the guy who was on trial got to pick the people who sat on the jury ... But now we say "we've got to get somebody who doesn't know you personally, we've got to get somebody who has only read the news account story of you - what [George] Soros and Media Matters and everything else" - and so that's a corruption of the jury system.

We used to allow jurors, under the Constitution, they decided both law and fact and we don't allow them to decide law any more. And that used to be a check and balance upon judges but in 1895 the US Supreme Court said "oh, juries can't look at the law anymore, they can only look at the fact."

Green: Only our high and might judges can decide that ... so what we do is basically we give the juries, they're basically boxed in, you can answer yes or no to this question and that's it.

I mean, it never should have gone to trial in the first place and then on the other end you ended up with a jury that wasn't a jury of his peers and was only allowed to answer the one question.

Barton: That's right, so that's the abuse that happened. this is a pretty good example of what happens when you get away from that Constitutional guarantee of due process. The Constitutional guarantee would have made this really easy, but under that way the courts have reinterpreted the Fourth through the Eighth Amendments, all that Due Process stuff, this is where DeLay had so much trouble.

Barton: Gays Are "Hypersensitive" And "Behave in Such a Way That People Want to Kick You"

Today, David Barton and Rick Green dedicated their "Wallbuilders Live" radio program to discussing the recent situation in Indiana where a bakery owner refused to make cupcakes for customer who wanted to celebrate "National Coming Out Day" with Micah Clark of the American Family Association of Indiana.

Barton began by framing the discussion by asserting that gays are "hypersensitive" and pointed to his recent statement that the government ought to be regulating gay sex as evidence, claiming that he received death threats because of it.  Finally, Barton says that gays have a "kick me mentality" and "behave in such a way that people want to kick you":

Barton: If there's a group in America that is hypersensitive, it is homosexuals. I mean, they got a short fuse on everything. You're a homophobe, you're a whatever and anything you say or do, they interpret as coming after them.

And so they really have a short fuse and a great example is, remember back a few weeks ago we had Pastor Hutcherson on and remember that article he did in Townhall and WorldNetDaily - "Transexual, Transgender, and Transfast" - and he's talking about how the government thinks it should regulate that bad for our health, well it needs to read its own website and look what it says about homosexuality and how bad that is for health and yet they encourage that, they don't regulate it.

Well I now found out that we have a number of people who listen to "Wallbuilders Live" who I didn't know about: Alan Colmes and Keith Olbermann and MSNBC and all these folks. Because when we said that, they came after me in unbelievable ways.

MSNBC called and they had me posted on the front page and they were doing programs on what I said - I'm repeating Hutcherson, you know, I'm just reading an article. But it was so funny. They wanted me to come on NBC and appear on ... but I didn't want to talk to their twelve viewers so I left that.

You just make a comment like that, you just repeat an article that Pastor Hutcherson did and, man, they have come after me and the death threats, you know I got all of these death threats.

These guys are wacky. They are absolutely wacky and it's like they look for ways to get rejected so they can so "you did that because I'm homosexual." No, I did that because you're a jerk.

And literally, if you get this kick me mentality, it's like you wear a sign that says "kick me" and you behave in such a way that people want to kick you.

Of course, if anyone dares to criticize Barton these remakrs, they are just being hypersensitive.

Barton Looking Forward to the "Alignment of Faith and Politics"

The slogan for the "Wallbuilders Live" radio program has always been "the intersection of faith and politics" ... but it looks like David Barton and Rick Green are expecting such a fundamental shift with tomorrow's election that they are considering changing that slogan:

Green: You picked a great day to tune it. It is the Monday before the big election ... boy, you talk about the intersection of faith and politics, there is going to be a collision tomorrow.

Barton: Well, hopefully there will be an alignment more than a collision, hopefully we see an alignment of faith and politics tomorrow because the faith has been there, it's the politics that has been contrary to the faith and tomorrow hopefully we'll get an alignment of faith and politics.

Green: Man, that would be a good new theme for us: the alignment of faith and politics instead of just the intersection. That's great, man. That was inspired. I think God just spoke through you today, David.

Barton: I'll take it. I'll take that as a prophetic thing for tomorrow, you bet.

And I also just want to post this other exchange just for the record in case a certain thrice-married conservative leader decides to runs for President and taps Barton to play a role in his campaign:

Green: What a citizen gives his vote to a man of known immorality, he abuses his trust. He sacrifices not only his known interest but that of his neighbor. He betrays the interest of his country.

So really, when we go in and vote tomorrow, we're voting for our country , we're voting on whether or not our children will get to enjoy the same things that we've enjoyed.

Barton: And you're really voting on character. That's what he said is look to the character. If you vote for someone of known immorality, if you vote for someone who has known character flaws, you're a traitor to your country.

Clayton Trotter: "The Anglo With The Hispanic Heart"

Times change.

For instance, back in 1962 Pat Boone could sing a song called "Speedy Gonzales" about a drunken, irresponsible Gonazles spending his time carousing and buying tortillas, chili peppers, and tequila instead of repairing his cockroach-infested adobe and see it go to #6 on the Billboard chart

Today, it would be considered rather offensive:

Which is why it is a little hard to understand why Republican congressional candidate Clayton Trotter is bragging about having received Boone's endorsement and specifically citing this song in an effort to appeal to Hispanic voters in Texas in his race against Democrat incumbent Rep. Charlie Gonzalez:

"Hi, I'm Pat Boone. Back in 1962, I sang a top ten song called 'Speedy Gonzales' about the fastest mouse in Mexico. You might remember this line: 'Speedy Gonzales, why don't you come home?' Today, a different question: 'Charlie Gonzalez, why don't you come home?' As a Congressman, you're spending our hard-earned tax money like there's no tomorrow. Sorry Charlie! You don't represent we the people. On November 2nd, vote Clayton Trotter for Congress."

In fact, Trotter goes even further, claiming that while Gonzalez may actually be Hispanic, it is Trotter who really has the community's best interests at heart ... and that is because is "the Anglo with the Hispanic heart":

Trotter said, "I'm the Anglo with the Hispanic heart. While Charlie has an Hispanic last name, he has consistently voted against the conservative Hispanic values of life and family. For example, Charlie voted against the ban on partial birth abortion -- a barbaric procedure in the last trimester during which the abortionist partially delivers a baby -- feet first, ultimately sucking the baby's brain out. "Sorry Charlie!" That's not an Hispanic value! No wonder Charlie got a 100 percent rating from the National Abortion Rights Action League.

"Plus, Charlie voted against a Constitutional Amendment that defined marriage between one man and one woman. 'Sorry Charlie!' That's not an Hispanic value either. Mexican-Americans are proud of God's creation of heterosexual marriage between Adam and Eve. I'm Clayton Trotter. I think it's time that District 20 had a congressman who defended the unborn babies and defended marriage. Those are true Hispanic values!

"Remember to vote for me, Clayton Trotter, the Anglo with the Hispanic heart."

And nothing demonstrates that better than securing the endorsement of Pat Boone who sang an offensive novelty song about a lazy cartoon Mexican mouse forty years ago.

Oh, and by the way, Trotter has received endorsements from Governor Rick Perry, Rep. Lamar Smith, David Barton, Rick Green, Phyllis Schlafly, Kelly Shackleford, Alveda King, among others.

Targeting Iowa Judges To Send A Message To the Supreme Court

Following in the wake of Judge Vaughan Walker's ruling in the Prop 8 case, Chuck Colson declared that the Religious Right must prevent the Supreme Court from ever ruling in favor of gay marriage by building a groundswell of opposition in order to convince the Court that any ruling recognizing the right to marriage equality will not be accepted by the people.

Today, the National Organization for Marriage's Brian Brown was on "Wallbuilders Live" with David Barton and Rick Green and explained that the effort to unseat three judges in Iowa was part of an effort to send just that sort of signal to the Supreme Court:

Barton: I guarantee you, if these judges can be thrown off in Iowa, you watch as state after state after state as people start going and saying "time for accountability, time to get our government back." I'm loving it, it's going to be fun.

Green: It's great, this is really opening the flood gate in a very positive way.

Brown: Many people that have commented on what we're going through right now, especially with the Proposition 8 case in California, are looking at the Iowa judicial retention election - and even though there are many important elections about the country - they're actually saying this is the most important election because it will send a clear signal to the Supreme Court and other judges that they don't have the right to make up the law out of thin air. Their job is to interpret the law, it is not to be out robed masters and judicial activists imposing their will on the rest of us.

And so if the people of Iowa do what I think they'll do and stand up and remove these judges, there will be reverberations throughout the country all the way to the United States Supreme Court.

And just in case you were operating under the delusion that the Religious Right would actually accept any Supreme Court in favor of marriage equality, rest assured that they most certainly will not:

Brown: Ultimately if this Perry vs Schwarzenegger case out of California goes to the Supreme Court - and I'm confident that we will win at the Supreme Court - but if we were to lose and if the Supreme Court was to force same-sex marriage on, for example, Texas or Alabama or states that have voted by something like seventy-five percent to support marriage as a union of a man and woman and you have the US Supreme Court throwing out the vote of these states, I think you're going to have a strong movement for a federal marriage amendment. And that would also be a very clear sign to the courts that they are bound by the law and they don't have the right to simply put into law their own personal preferences.

You also have under Article III in the Constitution the idea that Congress could limit the appellate jurisdiction of some of these federal courts, so that's another way in which, that's already in our law, that Congress could limit the ability of the federal courts to force same-sex marriage on the rest of the country, or any other issue on which the court's overstepping its bounds.

David Barton Call For Government Regulation of Gay Sex

Back in August, Ken Hutcherston wrote a column for WorldNetDaily in which he argued that the behavior of gays ought to be regulated by the government for health reasons:

Legislators around the country are considering banning sugar and fatty foods in schools, removing salt and butter from restaurants and want to control what temperature you can have in your own homes, because they fear the potential of health problems. Perhaps they should consider banning the promotion of a lifestyle that the Centers For Disease Control has determined actually causes HIV/AIDS. On the Day of Silence, an entire school day is set aside to ensure every young, impressionable student is exposed to homosexuality. Does this really make sense to you?

The column apparently impressed David Barton and Rick Green of Wallbuilders enough to make Hutcherson and his column the focus of their radio program today during which the two discussed the need to have the government to regulate homosexual conduct while warning that failure to do so would lead to the destruction of the United States within three generations:

Barton: We’re a health-conscious people, no question …

Green: We are, very.

Barton: We have a Department of Health and Human Services; we have health care bills; we have health insurance and we’re trying to stop all unhealthy things so we’re going after transfats and we’re going after transparency in labeling to make sure we get all the healthy stuff in there. And we’re going after school lunch programs and we’re trying to get juices in schools and Cokes out of schools and snack machines out of schools. And we’re trying to tell McDonalds what they can use and how they can cook their french fries because it’s unhealthy. And we’ve got cigarettes and trying to get them off and raising the taxes so high that nobody will smoke them, ‘cause that’s unhealthy. And hard liquor; that’s unhealthy, we can’t do that. And salt, man, we’ve got to have salt-free diets, so we have to post the potassium, salt and all the different types of salt … just everything, obesity, overweight, we are so doggone health conscious because we want to live healthy because, among other things, it makes your health care a whole lot cheaper. You live a healthy life, no question it’s a lot cheaper …

Green: Which is typically the excuse for the Federal Government claiming we have the responsibility here, or we have the authority I should say …

Barton: … to tell you how to live a healthy lifestyle. So if I got to the Centers for Disease Control and I’m concerned about health, I find some interesting stats there and this should tell me something about health.

Homosexual/bi-sexual individuals are seven times more likely to contemplate or commit suicide. Oooh, that doesn’t sound very healthy.

Homosexuals die decades earlier than heterosexuals. That doesn’t sound healthy.

Nearly one-half of practicing homosexuals admit to five hundred or more sex partners and nearly one-third admit to a thousand or more sex partners in a lifetime.

Green: Wow.

Barton: That doesn’t sound very healthy.

Homosexuals have an HIV prevalence sixty times higher than the general population.

Homosexuals have Hepatitis B virus five to six times more often and Hepatitis C virus infections about two times more often than the regular population.

Homosexuals are less than three percent of the population but they account for sixty-four percent of the syphilis cases.

I mean, you go through all this stuff, sounds to me like that’s not very healthy. Why don’t we regulate homosexuality?

Green: I was about to say, now wait a minute, they want to either regulate or outlaw things like transfats and all those things you mentioned earlier …

Barton: I got news for you, salt won’t cut decades off your life. But we regulate salt. And transfats are not going to cut decades off your life, but we’ll regulate that.

Green: But here they do the opposite, they promote it.

Barton: Oh wait, this will cut decades off your life? Let’s get this taught in kindergarten and on up … wait a minute, I thought we were into being health conscious? This is so oxymoronic and it really is dangerous.

There is a piece I want to read out of an 1814 legal work on why – and this is without all of the medical evidence back there – but this is why homosexuality was not promoted …

Green: What date did you say there?

Barton: 1814.

Green: A lot of people thing this is an issue that has not been dealt with before. I’ve heard you talk about George Washington dealing with it in the military …

Barton: 1778 … so this is an 1814 legal work on why we didn’t promote homosexuality:

If we reflect on the dreadful consequences of sodomy to a state, and on the extent to which this abominable vice may be secretly carried on and spread, we cannot, on the principles of sound policy, consider the punishment as too severe. For if it once begins to prevail, not only will boys be easily corrupted by adults, but also by other boys; nor will it ever cease; more especially as it must thus soon lose all its shamefulness and infamy and become fashionable and the national taste; and then . . . national weakness, for which all remedies are ineffectual, most inevitably follow; not perhaps in the very first generation, but certainly in the course of the third or fourth. . . . To these evils may be added yet another, viz. that the constitutions of those men who submit to this degradation are, if not always, yet very often, totally destroyed, though in a different way from what is the result of whoredom.

Whoever, therefore, wishes to ruin a nation, has only to get this vice introduced; for it is extremely difficult to extirpate it where it has once taken root because it can be propagated with much more secrecy . . . and when we perceive that it has once got a footing in any country, however powerful and flourishing, we may venture as politicians to predict that the foundation of its future decline is laid and that after some hundred years it will no longer be the same . . . powerful country it is at present.

Green: Wow.

Barton: 1814.

Green: I’ve actually seen you give statistics on what happens in nations that adopt homosexuality and homosexual marriage and how quickly that nation does deteriorate.

Barton: Now this was 1814, but there was a study done back in the 1920s and it looked at eighty-some odd nations and those rejected sexual regulation like with homosexuality, none of them lasted past the third generation from the time that they embraced it. So how ever many it looked at …

Green: … confirmed exactly what that study in 1814 said.

Barton: Exactly, and that’s a century later. And now here the CDC is saying “here’s a really unhealthy lifestyle” and we’re saying “great, let’s promote it in schools and lets protect it in law.”

Green: Unbelievable.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Twice-divorced, thrice-married Newt Gingrich has been confirmed as a speaker for the FRC's Values Voter Summit.
  • The Traditional Values Coalition, of all groups, opposes "Burn a Quran Day."
  • David Barton, Rick Green, and Tom DeLay go on and on about how poor DeLay was the victim of a partisan witch-hunt because he was such an awesome Congressman and Christian.
  • Focus on the Family is outraged that George Soros donated $100 million to the "Anti-Family, Anti-Faith Group" Human Rights Watch.
  • I genuinely have no idea what the point of this Catholic League press release is supposed to be.
  • Finally, the quote of the day from Alan Sears of the Alliance Defense Fund: "Judges and politicians can ignore all the legal and constitutional standards they want to ram the homosexual political agenda down our throats. But they will never make the actions at the base of that agenda anything but a sin—and like any other sin, its indulgence brings only misery, for individuals, and for a nation."

Gingrich Wants Ground Zero Declared a National Battlefield Memorial to Stop Park 51

David Barton and Newt Gingrich have been working together for years now, but today was the first time Gingrich had ever appeared on Barton's "Wallbuilders Live" radio program.

Gingrich came on to discuss his recent column opposing the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque" and did so did so with typical Gingrichian belligerence, but eventually the topic turned toward how to actually prevent it from being built and Gingrich's preferred solution is for Congress to declare Ground Zero to be a national battlefield memorial:

Well, there are a lot of places. I think the Congress has the ability to declare the area a national battlefield memorial because I think we should think of the World Trade Center as a battlefield site; this is a war.

The Attorney General of New York, Andrew Cuomo, could intervene because frankly he has the ability to slow it down for decades if he wants to.

I am surprised that Mayor Bloomberg said it was okay and I think that if he reconsiders it, he'll decide its not.

There are a number of different steps that could be taken. There's no reason this has to occur and whether it's city, state, or federal there are plenty of ways for America to stop it.

Elsewhere, Barton gushes over Gingrich's amazing genius and notes that he has been utterly forgiven by the Religious Right for his previous multiple marital failings:

And finally, Rick Green asked Gingrich if he was planning on running for president in 2012, to which Gingrich replied that if he does decide to do so, Barton and Wallbuilders will be asked to play a key role in the campaign:

Green: Mr. Speaker, my wife and I were really wanting to be able to vote for you for president two years ago. Are we going to get to do that in 2012?

Gingrich: All I can tell you is that sometime in February or March, Calista and I and our family will be making this decision. As you know, I'm a great admirer of your work and of all you've done to teach Americans about their history and the roots of American freedom. And I can assure you that if we do decide to run next year, we're promptly going to call you and say "we need your help, and we need your advice, and we need your counsel." It's more than a voting matter. If we decide to run, David, we're going to need you.

Glenn Beck Outrages The Right By Saying Gay Marriage Poses No Threat

Last week, Glenn Beck made news when he said that he didn't think issues like abortion or gay marriage were all that important and didn't pose a threat to the nation.

Needless to say, that is not sitting well with the Right and Beck is now coming under attack from people like David Kupelian, who are accusing him of abandoning core conservative values:

[S]peaking of our founding fathers, Glenn: The three founders you picture daily on your Fox TV show under the heading "Faith. Hope. Charity" – namely Sam Adams, George Washington and Ben Franklin – would have been horrified, appalled and aghast at the mere thought of men marrying men and women marrying women.

If you want to honor the founders, don't abandon their values.

America, you have a choice right now. Hold to what you know deep in your heart is right, even if both your enemies and your friends give you a hard time. Or, take the easy route and be comfortable, but lose your culture, your country, your children, and ultimately your self-respect.

And Joseph Farah is also going after Beck for not understanding the danger of "upsetting God's order":

Beck doesn't care about one of the most blatant and despicable examples of judicial tyranny in the history of our country. He doesn't care about the institution of marriage and its 5,000-year history. He doesn't care that the Bible says God created marriage way back in Genesis and that Jesus affirmed that. He doesn't care that the family is the building block of a society and that smarter men have explained how you simply can't have freedom and self-governance without it. He also doesn't seem to care about what might become of children adopted into such unions.

That, my friends, is the perfect illustration of what's wrong with the materialist worldview – whether it is held by a raving Marxist or a conservative entertainer.

And so is Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute, who accuses Beck of not caring about the impact it is having upon children:

True conservatives need to rethink their cowardly refusal to address the inherent immorality of homosexual practice and their deeply flawed strategy of calling for a moratorium on “social issues.” It’s astonishing that any thinking person could view as non-existential the radical redefinition of marriage and the implications it has for First Amendment speech and religious liberties as well as for parental rights and public education.

...

The sexual revolution with its severing of sex from marriage and marriage from procreation paved the way for severing marriage from gender. And now we have children being procreated with the deliberate intention of separating them from the biological parents who procreated them. Children are being deliberately denied their self-evident and inalienable right to be raised by the parents who produced them ... Homosexual activists in cahoots with legislators and judges are working feverishly — and successfully — to force public educators to present resources that affirm homosexuality and Gender Identity Disorder as positive and normal to even elementary school children. And Glenn Beck proclaims that homosexual marriage doesn’t hurt America. Apparently, children aren’t part of America in Beck’s World.

Just yesterday Glenn Beck was telling David Barton and Rick Green about how his upcoming "Restoring Honor" rally was, quite literally, being overseen by God and would lead to the next Great Awakening in America.

But will the Religious Right support his effort now that he appears to be dismissing the social issues that are central to their agenda?

Glenn Beck Is On A Mission From God

For months now, Glenn Beck has been regularly featuring David Barton of Wallbuilders on his program and so I guess it was only a matter of time that Beck showed up as a guest on Barton's radio program, which is what happened today.

Beck came on to discuss how his upcoming Restoring Honor rally is being orchestrated by God to unleash revival upon America:

Beck: I think this is an opportunity to gather God's people together and wake people up. And I just have this feeling that this is the beginning of something gigantic in this country, that it is spiritual awakening.

What's going to happen there will raise the hair on your arms. What's going to happen there you will never, ever forget and I promise you, then next day when you read about it - if the press covers it - you will say "oh my gosh, I wish I would have been there." This will go into the history book.

This is Divine Providence. This is the Lord's hand at work. This is a miracle.

Barton: And it really is. It's an intervention of God. And a lot of times when he shows up, it's not the way you thought he was going to show up, but man the results are always his and it's really good the way it works out.

Beck: And that's kind of the point of 8/28: you just have to stand where the Lord wants you to stand. He'll explain it to you when the time comes.

You can feel the presence of the Lord. I mean, the Spirit is so strong. When you two hundred, three hundred, five hundred thousand people on the Mall in that space right there between Washington and Lincoln with the Reflecting Poll - a spiritual space in our nation - the Spirit of the Lord is going to be unleashed like I think you've never felt it before.

WallBuilders: National Borders Were Drawn By God and Obama Is Out to Replace "Core Americans" With Illegals

It looks like we can now add David Barton and Rick Green of WallBuilders to the list of Religious Right activists who are opposing the effort by a handful of right-wing leaders to get conservatives to support immigration reform.

And they are apparently taking a hard-line stance, as evidence by the fact that the guest on today's episode of "WallBuilders Live" was William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, the viciously anti-immigrant activist who made news a few months back when he demanded that Sen. Lindsey Graham admit that he is gay, saying that his refusal to do so was allowing President Obama and others to blackmail him into supporting immigration reform.

Barton started off by saying that it was God who set the boundaries of all nations and so any violation of national borders is, in reality, a violation against God.  Then Rick Green talked with Gheen about how everyday thousands of American citizens are calling the Department of Homeland Security to report that they are being harmed by illegal immigrations while Obama administration refuses to respond because they are intent on "replacing us in our own country, [which is a] much smarter thing to do than fighting us in a war":

Barton: I think the first thing they have to understand, it is God and not man who establishes the borders of nations. National boundaries are set by God. If God didn't want boundaries, he would have put everyone in the same world and there would have been no nations; we would have all been living together as one group and one people. That didn't happen. From the Tower of Babel, he sent them out with different languages, different cultures. God's the one who drew up the lines for the nations, so to say open borders is to say "God, you goofed it all up and when you had borders, you shouldn't have done it ..."

Rick Green: We know better than you ...

Barton: And so, from a Christian standpoint, you cannot do that. God's the one who establishes the boundaries of nations.

...

William Gheen: All across America today, people are calling and saying "hey, illegal aliens are taking my job; hey, illegal aliens are hurting my wages; hey, illegal aliens stole my wife, stole my property, hey, illegal aliens are menacing my children in school with physical violence and I know they're illegal and come do your job."

And these call, probably hundreds, if not thousands, per day are going right to where they're suppose to be - Department of Homeland Security - and nothing is ever happening, they're not listening, they don't care about the death and suffering illegal immigration is causing the American public.

And when you look closer at who is up there and who's around them, you find power groups that actually advocate for this kind of stuff - they are protecting illegal aliens, they facilitated their importation into the United States and they seem to have some broader political/economic agenda of replacing many core Americans and American values and our jobs and our schools and everything else. That's what they're doing. They don't like Americans so they're replacing us in our own country. It's a much smarter thing to do if you're our enemies than fighting us in a war.

Deregulation, In Jesus' Name

Every once in a while it is important to remind ourselves that the Religious Right doesn't want our nation's laws to reflect Biblical principles only on issues like abortion or gay marriage, but on all laws.

And though we tend to forget that from time to time, fortunately they are willing to remind us, which is what David Barton and Rick Green of Wallbuilders did today, laying out the case for complete economic deregulation on the grounds that that is what the Bible says that Christians should be free to do as they please, while laws and regulations should only be targeted at "the bad people."

As an added bonus, the guest on today's radio program was Rep. Randy Neugebauer, whom you may remember as the man who screamed "baby killer" at Rep. Bart Stupak during the health care debate, who slammed the idea of bailing out companies because they will never learn their lesson if we don't let them go out of business:

Barton: There is a great Bible verse, 1 Timothy 1, 8-10 where God tells us why he gives us laws. And we should use this as the standard by which we judge laws in a city, or in a county, or in a state, or anything else. Here's was Scripture says, God says "we know that the law is good if one uses it properly." So what is the proper use of the law? It says that "we also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels." So the first point of law is you don't make laws to regulate the good people, you make laws to regulate the bad people. You want to restrain the bad, not restrain the good. So it says "we know the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, and homosexuals, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine."

The purpose we have laws is to restrain the bad, that is the purpose of government, that is the purpose of law. We obviously have gotten away from that. We have so many laws now that restrain the good folks and regulate the good folks ... if you look at all the bailouts that have happened over the last two years, the only divisions of the economy that needed bailouts were the most heavily regulated divisions, the ones with the most government, and that's insurance, that's real estate, that's banking, you had regulations through the unions on the car dealers that went out of business. The guys that had competitive market stuff, we had a lot of car dealers that didn't go under.

Green: The power of government was coming in to those that did go under controlling it.

Barton: And there is was.

Green: And so the excuse, typically, for these regulations is to keep from having the problems but you the result is ...

Barton: You have more problems every time, because you're violating the Biblical principle that laws are made to restrain the bad, not the good. You cannot violate God's principles and have it work.

[EDIT - Green reiterates this argument to Rep. Neugebauer]

Neugebauer: We should have let those companies fails. You talk about learning a lesson, companies don't learn a lesson when the government and the tax payers bail 'em out. Companies learn lessons when they fail and that makes the market then pay better attention to some of these entities and whether they are providing 'em credit or buying stock in those companies. But if there is this implied guarantee that somehow, don't worry, the taxpayers will swoop in and pick up the tab then there is no encouraging the market to be a little careful in their selection and really no pressure on management to manage their balance sheets better.

Behold the economic ideology driving the Religious Right: Christians don't need regulation because they are good people, and trying to regulate Christians violates God's will, which in turns caused our economy to nearly collapse ... and we should have let it collapse, because that is the only way that business would learn its lesson.

[And, as an interesting side note, when Barton quotes from 1 Timothy, he seems to be reading from the New International Version, as that appears to be the only version that uses the word "properly" while the others use the word "lawfully."  And the NIV version of that passage does not mention "homosexuals" .. but apparently Barton thought it important to add that.]

Typical David Barton

Today's episode of "Wallbuilders Live" with David Barton and Rick Green was dedicated to responding "to the accusations against some of American's early key figures claiming them to be guilty of homosexuality."

Apparently, a recent episode of the History Channel's "America: The Story of Us" claimed that Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, who is credited with instilling military skills and discipline in Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, was gay.

But Barton was having none of it and, in a bit of amazing irony, attacked Randy Shilts, author of "Conduct Unbecoming: Gays and Lesbians in the US Military" for engaging in historical revisionism by highlighting only the things that supported his claim while ignoring anything that didn't.

I have no idea whether von Steuben was gay and don't really think it is particularly relevant ... but apparently Barton and Green decided it was important to attack this claim because otherwise people would start using it in pressing for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

A lot of Barton's points during this broadcast seem to have come out of the 2001 document he wrote called "Homosexuals in the Military" which claims, among others things, that the Founding Fathers vehemently opposed homosexuality in general and would never have accepted it in the military.

Toward the end of the broadcast Barton read from a "great legal writing from back then [that] explains exactly why they reacted so violently against this particular vice: homosexuality ... it is such a good lay out of the progression that occurs once you start accepting this advice."

Barton also cited this "great legal writing" in his 2001 piece and here it is:

John David Michaelis, author of an 1814 four-volume legal work, outlined why homosexuality must be more strenuously addressed and much less tolerated than virtually any other moral vice in society:

Now, I have no idea how John David Michaelis managed to author this in 1814 ... considering that his name was Johann David Michaelis and he died in 1791.

But this is typical Barton: mistakenly presenting history while citing the views of some arcane German biblical scholar from over two hundred years ago as if they were relevant to public policy discussions today.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Young America’s Foundation and others have declared tomorrow, June 8, "Keep Out Kagan Day."
  • Rick Green of WallBuilders is offering a 4-day "Our American Heritage" class.
  • Robert Knight says that anyone who supports equality for gays thinks that they are smarter than God.
  • Anti-Islam activists gathered in lower Manhattan mid-day Sunday to demonstrate against plans to build a mosque near the site of Ground Zero.
  • Michael Savage asks whether or not Americans "understand that the presidency may have been usurped by a foreign power?"
  • Finally, the quote of the day from Peter LaBarbera: "God help us. We have become a sick and very weird culture. In the good old days (before 'she-males' existed), they would just call such people 'perverts.' America was better off then."

Better Courts Now: Seeking Judges With a Christian Bias

When Better Courts Now was launched back in March, its stated goal was to see right-wing judges elected "across San Diego County and eventually America."  For now, the group is focusing on California and has, in recent weeks, been making it clear that they are not looking to support merely conservative judges, but Christian judges who will carry out God's will on the bench.

The election is tomorrow and pastor Brian Hendry, who is running the group, really wants to make their goal clear:

"We've always been involved in the political realm, in believing that too often Christians have dropped the ball over the years and have allowed...an agenda that's not a biblical agenda to take over," Hendry explains. "In our prayers and in looking for different ways to attack, we realized, especially in California, that the judiciary was definitely an area that had been running amok, if you will."

He contends that judicial activists have tried to push a social agenda, such as when the state Supreme Court legalized, albeit for a short time, homosexual marriage. Better Courts Now wants godly men on the bench, but opponents say Christian judges would be activists for Christ.

"To say that somehow a Christian coming in with a biblical worldview will give them a bias that will lead them to not be able to follow the law -- we actually believe that bias, if you will, or that worldview helps them to follow the law, because they stand on virtues and principles that they cannot violate," Hendry contends.

Hendry was also the guest on "WallBuilders Live" last Friday where he discussed this effort with Rick Green, who recently lost his own run for the state Supreme Court.  To say that Green was excited by this new effort would be a massive understatement, as Green and Hendry spent a large part of the interview discussing their desire to see this operation duplicated all across the country.

So it should not come as a surprise if we see some sort of WallBuilders/Better Court Now joint operation emerge down the road.

As we have noted multiple times before, the "experts" over at WallBuilders routinely teach that just about every aspect of our government and culture has been explicitly based on Biblical principles.  Thus we are constantly hearing that the three branches of government and separation of powers, our due process clause, elections, all manner of other Constitutional provisions and various other institutions were explicitly rooted in the Bible. David Barton in particular constantly teaches that our free market economic system came directly out of the Bible and routinely cites... MORE >

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) today appeared on WallBuilders Live with David Barton and Rick Green. King rather incredibly described Green as a “constitutional scholar” and lamented the “manufactured, judicial activist right to privacy” protected in Griswold v. Connecticut. King also bemoaned that inability of states to outlaw contraceptives and even said that King George would not have had the “audacity” of President Obama to mandate that insurance companies cover contraceptives as part of his compromise policy with religiously-affiliated organizations. Last year, David Barton released a six DVD program entitled "Building on the American Heritage Series" in which Barton, along with co-host Rick Green, "navigates our nation’s unique religious, moral and constitutional heritage and answers the questions Americans are asking today." Today, we noticed that a few of these programs had aired on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and were archived on its website.  And so, being gluttons for punishment, we set about watching them.  In the episode entitled "Revival And Reformation," Green asked Barton... Today's episode of "WallBuilders Live" was dedicated to defending free-market capitalism, as Rick Green and David Barton asserted that there should literally be no government regulation or oversight of any aspect of our economy whatsoever: Barton: A free market means that it is a market that is free from government regulations. Now, people today don't think that. They say free market [but think] "well, the government does need to regulate to make sure there's no corruption." No, no, no. Green: But even that phrase "to regulate" means to make regular. It... MORE >

Yesterday's episode of "Wallbuilders Live" featured an interview with Kyle Olson, author of the book "Indoctrination: How 'Useful Idiots' Are Using Our Schools to Subvert American Exceptionalism." Olson was bought on to explain to co-host Rick Green how "useful idiots" (i.e. liberals) are using the public schools to promote their pro-gay, anti-business, America-hating agenda to the nation's students. When asked to provide some examples of how this is happening, Olson singled out an episode in Texas where a teacher used the book "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That... MORE >

Rick Green of WallBuilders today appeared on Truth that Transforms with Carmen Pate and John Rabe where he claimed that the separation of church and state is the “exact opposite” of what the Founders wanted. He went on to claim that the separation of church and state is simply a tool to move the country “towards socialism and communism” and is responsible for increases in out-of-wedlock births and crime. Of course, this should come as no surprise as Green and WallBuilders president David Barton have made careers out of mischaracterizing church-state separation and... MORE >

Today on WallBuilders Live, Barton reflected on the alleged persecution of same-sex marriage opponents like himself. He claimed that like Jeremiah, he doesn’t care what people have to say about him and doesn’t listen to his critics “as long as I’m speaking the right thing that God told me to say.” Of course, this is the same David Barton who is currently suing three of his critics for libel and defamation and whose cohost Rick Green is suing...
