Tea Party Nation: "We Must Stand With The Bachmanns" Against Gay Rights

Tea Party Nation has increasingly voiced a militant opposition to gay rights, endorsing activists who maintain that LGBT equality will destroy America and that anti-LGBT bullying is “healthy.” Now, the tea party group’s president Judson Phillips himself is calling on activists to rally behind Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus as they face scrutiny over their clinic’s use of “reparative therapy” and their long opposition to gay rights.

Phillips claims that the gay rights movement is part of a larger “liberal freak show” different from the rest of the country, arguing that “most Americans do not believe homosexuality is a good thing”:

The liberal freak show is coming after Michele Bachmann. That is not much of a surprise. Bachmann is running a very disciplined campaign, encouraging conservatives and running with a conservative agenda. But now the left is coming after her.

The left wants to use the gay rights issue against her. Bachmann’s husband, Marcus is a therapist and according to the left, he has committed a horrible crime. He used therapy to help gays who did not want to be gay any more change.

Most Americans do not believe gay marriage is a good thing. Most Americans do not believe homosexuality (which is only 1-3% of the population) is a good thing, though most Americans are tolerant of most things.

The left is not tolerant. The left never allows dissent. To the horror of Americans, Marcus Bachmann once referred to gays as “barbarians.”

Barbarians?

If you are a conservative you have been called much worse and usually in much more obscene terms, for being a conservative.

Liberalism cannot stand a real debate. Liberals always lose those debates. That is why they always resort to fear, intimidation, violence and mob rule to achieve their goals. We cannot let mob rule win.

For this, we must stand with the Bachmanns.

Fischer: The Bachmanns Are Victims Of A Hate Crime Based On Their Heterosexual Orientation

Bryan Fischer has been dedicating a lot of airtime on his radio program this week to defending Michele and Marcus Bachmann in the wake of reports Marcus' clinic practices and promotes "ex-gay therapy."

And it was a topic to which he returned today, where he claimed that the Bachmanns were the victims of religious discrimination and a hate crime "based on their sexual orientation":

The Bible teaches that a change in sexual orientation is possible. This is a biblical principle, it is a biblical proclamation, it is a biblical assertion and Marcus Bachmann and his wife Michele Bachmann believe that. They believe that sexual orientation, a change in sexual orientation, is possible because that's what the Bible teaches. So that makes this attack on them a blatant example of religious bigotry.

They have been the victims of religious discrimination. They have been the victims of religious bigotry, of bigotry and discrimination and hatred that is directed against them because of their religious beliefs. In other words, this is bordering on a hate crime. You could also make the point that this bigotry against the Bachmanns is based on their sexual orientation. They have a heterosexual orientation and pro-homosexual bigots are trying to discriminate against them, they're trying to threaten them, they're trying to harass them because of their normal orientation, their heterosexual orientation.

Bryan Fischer Promotes Ex-Gay Therapy

Ever since the media started examining reports that the clinic operated by Michele Bachmann's husband Marcus practices "ex-gay therapy," the Religious Right has been in a tizzy and come rushing to their defense.

So it was no surprise to see Bryan Fischer doing his part, though in this case it was Dr. Tim Rampey (who, oddly, was promoted as the author of "America Fooled: The Truth About Antidepressants, Antipsychotics And How We've Been Deceived," though the book cover says it was written by "Dr. Timothy Scott") who reached out to Fischer and offered to come on to his program and defend the practice.

During the extended discussion, Rampey complained that the mental health profession was misleading the public into believing that gays and lesbians are born that way and there used to be all sorts of studies disproving that idea - like "Calvin's Rat Universe" - but those studies have been removed from all textbooks.  Rampey went on to claim that gay men were hated by their fathers and asserted that there is absolutely no evidence that efforts to change sexual orientation are harmful:

  • Michele Bachmann's church thinks the Pope is the Antichrist.
  • The Freedom From Religion Foundation is suing to stop Rick Perry's prayer rally.
  • I am looking forward to Bryan Fischer complaining again about how the nation is feminizing the Medal of Honor.
  • Peter LaBarbera says giving gay equality just makes Muslim hate the US even more.
  • I think it is funny to see David Brody complain about other reporter's lack of journalism standards.
  • The Family Leader's Bob VanderPlaats does damage control.

FRC: Pray For Bachmann's Ex-Gay Clinic

The Family Research Council has been adamantly defending the clinic founded by Rep. Michele Bachmann and her husband since an undercover investigation revealed that the clinic was practicing discredited ‘ex-gay’ reparative therapy. The Religious Right group, which recently urged people to pray for countries that criminalize homosexuality, wants members to pray for anti-gay laws and clinics that offer “help for homosexuals to break free from addiction to homosexuality.” The FRC writes in its latest prayer alert:

Christian Counseling under Assault – This week a homosexual activist group reported findings from their undercover “sting” operation at Minnesota Christian counseling clinic owned by Republican Presidential candidate Michelle Bachman and her husband, Marcus. Sympathetic national media seemed shocked that the Christian counseling center offered help for homosexuals to break free from addiction to homosexuality through faith in Jesus Christ. Where will the homosexual assault on religious liberty stop?

May God open the eyes of all Americans to the truth regarding natural marriage and sexuality vs. homosexuality as well as homosexual rights vs. religious liberty. May officials at every level stand up for natural marriage and sexuality. May the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and state marriage amendments be upheld in the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. May our military men be protected from the introduction of homosexuality into their ranks. May we all stand up for our First Amendment freedoms! (Ps 82: all; Is 42:6-7; Mt 19:4; Rom 1:24-28; 1 Cor 6:9-11; 2 Tim 2:24-25)

Perry and Bachmann Heading to Liberty U In September

If you are thinking that you might like to be the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 and Jerry Falwell's Liberty University invites you to come and speak, you say "of course, I would love to do so" ... which is why Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann will both be speaking there in September:

Two Republican presidential prospects, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, will speak at Liberty University this fall, LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said today.

Bachmann, founder of the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives, is an announced candidate for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

Perry, in his 10th year as governor of Texas, has said publicly that he's thinking about running for the GOP nomination for president. He, too, is popular with tea party followers.

"Since Liberty is the world's largest Christian university, we think it is important to expose the students to as many candidates as possible," Falwell said.

Candidates should be able to take some cues from the students, as well, Falwell said.

"How well they are received at Liberty will be a good indicator for how they will be received in Christian circles nationwide," Falwell said.

Perry will speak at one of LU's thrice-weekly convocations on Sept 14.

Bachmann is scheduled to speak at a convocation Sept. 28.

Remembrance of Bachmann Things Past: Her Ties To Janet Porter

In 2009, Janet Porter of Faith 2 Action organized a right-wing conference in St. Louis called "How To Take Back America" that was co-sponsored by the likes of WorldNetDaily, The American Family Association, Vision America, Liberty Counsel, and WallBuilders.  The keynote speakers at the conference were Mike Huckabee and Rep. Michele Bachmann.

The line-up at this conference was so radical that we put together a report on the participants which gave special attention to the truly fringe views espouse by Porter:

It is probably impossible to overstate the extremism and lunacy of Janet Porter, whose radio program and Faith2Action.org website gives her a platform for promoting the most unhinged of conspiracy theories.

Porter is Mike Huckabee's biggest fan. She first fell in love when she organized the 2007 Values Voter Debate to which she had personally invited a gospel choir to sing "Why Should God Bless America?" and after which Porter (then Folger) declared that Huckabee had been revealed as the answer to Christians' prayers for a presidential candidate who shared their views, proclaiming him to be the "David among Jesse's sons." During the presidential primaries, she started a front group to attack Huckabee's arch nemesis Mitt Romney and wrote columns claiming that only Huckabee could prevent Hillary Clinton from throwing all Christians into prison and save her fantasy world from this "evil queen and her dragon of slaughter."

She has since claimed that God has cursed America for voting for Obama, that anyone who voted for him is bound for hell , and that anyone who has ever voted for a pro-choice candidate is also living under a curse. She has actively pushed the Birther conspiracies and even alleged that Obama's presidency was the culmination of a decade-long Communist conspiracy twenty years in the making. After the election, but before the inauguration, she called on God to prevent Obama from taking office, while warning that "AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN" to this nation because we deserve God's judgment.

Among other fears she has recently been stoking: the Obama administration is creating internment camps for conservatives and building mass evacuation buses to take them there, while warning that the H1N1 flu vaccine is really a nefarious plot by the government to kill millions of Americans. She helped to create and inflate the Right's false claims that a Department of Homeland Security report was equating conservatives and veterans with terrorists; as noted above, she's now pushing comparisons between the Obama administration and the rise of Nazism.

Porter has written a book called "The Criminalization of Christianity" and claims that hate crimes legislation will lead to Christians being thrown in jail. More recently she's joined the chorus of extremists falsely claiming that the bill would "give heightened protection to pedophiles." As part of her campaign against hate crimes legislation, Porter has repeatedly invited on to her radio show Ted Pike, a rabid anti-Semite who claims hate crimes laws are part of a Jewish plot for world domination.

Of course, the radical views held by Porter and the others in no way dissuaded Bachmann from attending.  In fact, Bachmann appeared on Porter's radio program ahead of the event and used it as an opportunity to praiser her and endorse the May Day at the Lincoln Memorial prayer event Porter was planning for the following spring:

That May Day event ended up being so infused with Seven Mountains Dominion Theology that Porter lost her radio program and almost ended her career at a Religious Right activist, until she showed up in Ohio earlier this year where she began scheduling fetuses to "testify" on behalf of her extremist anti-choice "Heartbeat Bill."  In her downtime, she was busy praying for God to give Christians control over the media and every level of government.

But none of that seemed to bother Bachmann, who joined Porter, Joseph Farah, and others in promoting Porter's "Pink Slip" campaign to warn members of Congress that they would lose their jobs if they voted for legislation opposed by the Right:

In 2008, Porter was a key supporter of Mike Huckabee.  But with Huckabee declining to run for President this time around, Porter's endorsement is still up in the air.

But given the already existing ties between Bachmann and Porter (and judging by the poll Porter is currently running on her website) it seems increasingly like that Bachmann could wind up being her candidate of choice.

Remembrance of Bachmann Things Past: Praying To Stop Healthcare Reform

Given that Rep. Michele Bachmann is now running for president and among the Republican frontrunners, I was going through our Bachmann archives collecting past posts chronicling the absolute fringe Religious Right leaders with whom Bachmann has eagerly associated herself since getting elected to Congress.

In doing so, I noticed that we had lost our video of Bachmann and Lou Engle at the Family Research Council's 2009 "Prayercast" which was organized in order to seek God's intervention in preventing the passage of health care reform.

And so I thought it might be a good idea to get that video reposted:

  • WorldNetDaily is actually following through on its threat to sue Esquire over its parody article.
  • On a semi-related note, the Southern Baptist Convention does not, in fact, support gay marriage.
  • Michele Bachmann does not seem too concerned about the fact that Tom Petty doesn't want her using "American Girl."
  • The Christian Coalition echoes Bryan Fischer, who echoes anti-miscegenation arguments.
  • Finally, Roy Moore fell off his horse.

Janet Porter's Heartbeat Bill Passes Ohio State House

The Ohio State House finally voted on and passed Janet Porter’s “Heartbeat bill,” which would criminalize abortion in most cases. Conspicuously absent was a statement from the state’s leading anti-choice group, the Ohio Right to Life Society, which actually opposed the bill because it is blatantly unconstitutional. Now Porter’s prized legislation moves on to the Senate, and her group Faith2Action released a congratulatory statement:

“For every battle weary pro-lifer who didn't see how children were going to be protected in our lifetime, come see what God is doing in Ohio. Protection for babies with beating hearts is within reach for the first time since Roe stripped their rights away. I have never been more hopeful for restoring protection to babies with beating hearts than I am right now,” declared Janet (Folger) Porter, president of Ohio-based Faith2Action and a former legislative director for Ohio Right to Life.

In meetings with bill supporters, several of the state senators have expressed interest in serving as a sponsor or co-sponsor for the bill.

The bill was backed by a number of national Republican figures including presidential candidates Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich, and Porter even had two fetuses “testify” in favor of the bill.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Despite having accomplished next to nothing legislatively, Rep. Michele Bachmann is running for president.
  • But she is confident that the Republican Party will "be very happy" with her serving as the GOP presidential nominee.
  • Of course, her former Chief of Staff says Bachmann is entirely unready to be president.
  • Herman Cain is looking for people who "have been abused by the EPA" ... so he can put them in charge of the EPA when he becomes president.
  • But before he can do that, he better start looking for people to staff his campaign in New Hampshire.
  • When Glenn Beck heads to Israel for his next rally, he will also address a Knesset committee to "discuss how to fight the delegitimization of Israel around the world."

Understanding Bachmann's View That The Founders Opposed Slavery

Today Michele Bachmann refused to back down from her previous claim that the Founding Fathers, many of whom were slaveholders, actually opposed slavery. She cited John Quincy Adams, who was nine years old when the Declaration of Independence was signed, to prove her argument that the Founders worked to end slavery. But Bachmann’s belief that the Founding Fathers were actually abolitionists makes sense in the world of conservative alternative history created by David Barton.

Bachmann is a fan of Barton and even invited the pseudo-historian to address members of Congress in a lecture sponsored by her House Tea Party Caucus. Barton insists that Founders were not only devoted opponents of slavery, but actually fought the revolution against Britain to end it. Even though Britain abolished slavery two decades before the U.S., Barton insists that the War of Independence was really about America’s desire to end slavery against Britain’s wishes:

Fischer Defends Bachmann By Saying Liberals Are Just "Reminding Us Of The Clear Connection Between Homosexuality And Pedophilia"

Bryan Fischer weighs in on Michele Bachmann's "John Wayne" gaffe ... by claiming that all the Left is doing by mocking her is "reminding us of the clear connection between homosexuality and pedophilia":

They are going out of their way to remind us of John Wayne Gacy, who was a homicidal homosexual pedophile who raped and murdered 33 boys and young men, most of whom he buried in the crawl space of his house. The rest he dumped off a bridge into the Des Plaines River.

So liberals, by going out of their way to snarkily remind us of John Wayne Gacy, are inadvertently reminding us of the clear connection between homosexuality and pedophilia, which isn’t the smartest thing they’ve ever done.

Homosexuals comprise less than three percent of the population, but are responsible for fully a third of all instances of pedophilia. A study of 229 convicted child molesters in Archives of Sexual Behavior revealed that 86% of the offenders against males self-identified as homosexual or bisexual. Eighty-six percent!

Bottom line: homosexual or bisexual men are about 10 times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men. Big “Whoops!” for the libs on this one. And they’ve got no one but themselves to blame.
