Top Five Books Thomas Nelson Found More Credible Than David Barton's 'The Jefferson Lies'

The world’s largest Christian publisher Thomas Nelson has pulled David Barton’s book “The Jefferson Lies” because of Barton’s “unsupportable” claims regarding the third president’s views on religion. Barton’s deputy Rick Green accused academic “elitists” of acting like Adolf Hitler to smear Barton, while Barton ironically defended his book by insisting that a group of anonymous academics endorsed his work. Now that Thomas Nelson has recalled Barton’s book and removed all mention of it from its website, we wanted to see what books the publisher apparently found to be more credible than Barton’s “The Jefferson Lies”:

1. Todd Burpo’s “Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back.” Pastor Todd Burpo describes how his 3-year-old son Colton went to heaven during surgery where he saw God literally “fit the entire world into his hands” and Jesus’ “sea-blue eyes”!

2. Rick Joyner’s “The Vision: A Two-in-One Volume of The Final Quest and The Call.” Thomas Nelson considers not one but two books by the self-proclaimed prophet who claimed to have miraculously made a dish of casserole multiply and stopped the Asian Flu, blamed Hurricane Katrina on homosexuality and warned of the West Coast’s impending doom, as more supportable than Barton’s “The Jefferson Lies.”

3. Hank Hanegraaff’s “The Creation Answer Book.” This book claims that humans and dinosaurs walked on the earth together and that the earth was created in six consecutive 24 hour days, apparently less of a stretch than Barton’s argument that Jefferson and the rest of the Founders were fundamentalist Christians.

4. John Hagee’s “The Beginning of the End.” The televangelist describes how the Antichrist will soon come to power, using microchips implanted in humans and hate crimes laws to secure his authority.

5. Michael Savage’s “Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder.” It’s a book called “Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder”!

Again, these are the books seen as more reliable than Barton’s “The Jefferson Lies.”

Birther and Breitbart Conspiracies Generate Buzz on the Far-Right

To nobody’s surprise, Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s “cold case posse,” funded by the birther website WorldNetDaily, said yesterday at a press conference that there is “probable cause to believe forgery and fraud occurred” in the issuing of President Obama’s birth certificate. While birtherism has been dismissed as relegated to a few fringe activists and Donald Trump, polls show that only a minority of Republican voters believe Obama was born in the U.S.

Tea Party Nation president Judson Phillips, a fan of Orly Taitz’s birther crusade, appears to be under the impression that Arpaio’s investigation will actually lead to criminal charges against Obama:

Sheriff Joe’s strategy here is great. First, he is going for the easiest target. Someone obviously forged the birth certificate. With a criminal investigation, he can go places the civil lawsuits did not and courts are going to be much more reluctant interfere with a criminal probe than a civil lawsuit.

The person who forged the document is the easiest target and as a matter of criminal law, a prosecution of him or her would be pretty easy. One of the basic rules of criminal prosecutions, when you have a multi defendant conspiracy is to pick the easiest target, build the case and flip them.

Once the defendant is flipped, the prosecutors and investigators just work their way up the chain.

Assuming all of this can be proven, the trail has to end at Barack Obama. He presented the birth certificate to the nation. He has to know at the very least the birth certificate is not real. Why would Barack Obama release a forged birth certificate?

There are only a couple of reasons for that. While it could be his idea of a giant practical joke, that does not seem likely. In the law, a person who hides, alters or conceals evidence, there is a presumption that evidence is adverse to them.

That makes a lot of sense. And the question remains, why would Obama agree to a forged birth certificate? He knew the media would protect him, but why do it unless there is something to the story that he was in fact not born in Hawaii?

All of this goes back to the issue of why eligibility is so important.

If Obama is not eligible to be President, everything he did is undone. Goodbye Obamacare. Goodbye Dodd-Frank. Goodbye Kagan and Sotomayor.

If we can invalidate the Obama regime, we can undo the damage the left has so desired to do to this nation.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, last seen advocating the overthrow of the government, emailed members commending Arpaio and seemingly linking his press conference to Andrew Breitbart’s death:

It appears that the Maricopa County Sheriff's department has determined there is PROBABLE CAUSE to believe the long form birth certificate of "Barack Obama" released by the White House is a forgery. Police also believe that Obama's Selective Service card is a "poor forgery". Dr. Jerome Corsi is reporting that he spoke with Andrew Breitbart yesterday around 5pm and arranged an interview for him with Sheriff Arpaio. Corsi says it may have been Breitbart's last interview.

Andrew Breitbart died unexpectedly shortly after midnight this morning on this auspicious day.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is one of America's most respected lawmen, but the Associated Press is attacking him over this as we expected since the Associated Press has been caught lying and distorting the truth on numerous occasions.

They are elevating their investigation now to a CRIMINAL PROBE and calling for Congress to launch a Congressional investigation.

If you would like to join our calls for Congress to launch an official investigation into the forgery of this document and the eligibility of Barack Obama and the legitimacy of his executive memos ordering an unlawful and unConstituional amnesty for for illegal aliens, please access our Congressional contact information page at this link...

Radio talk show host Michael Savage tried to tie Breitbart’s death to a speech he gave at CPAC earlier this year:

“Maybe my overly active imagination kicked into overdrive,” Savage told his listeners of his decision to raise the question. “But you heard what Breitbart said – he has videos … we’re going to vet the president.”

… “I’m asking a crazy question,” Savage said, “but so what? We the people want an answer. This was not an ordinary man. If I don’t ask this question, I would be remiss.”

“He threatened the president at CPAC with video that could derail the president’s campaign,” Savage said.

“I pray it was natural causes, but we’ll never know the truth.” Savage said that if Breitbart’s colleagues have the videos, they should post them as soon as possible and make them viral “or they’ll never see the light of day.”

Right Wing Round-Up

Savage: Norway Terrorist Attacks A Left-Wing Conspiracy

Michael Savage and World Net Daily have already begun floating the conspiracy theory that this weekend’s massacre and bombing in Norway was a “cover-up.” The talk show host said on his radio show today that Muslims were responsible for the attacks in Norway, and in an interview with WND doubled down on his claims, saying that he now believes that the attacks were “likely a fabrication of the Labour Party,” whose youth retreat was specifically targeted by the right-wing terrorist. Savage went on to essentially echo the rhetoric of the accused terrorist, Andres Behring Breivik, blaming “Eurosocialism,” progressivism, multiculturalism and immigration for the attacks and hoping that they lead to a backlash against Muslims:

The Islamic news angle, Savage said, has faded from the press since Breivik was fingered, even though the lone Norwegian committing both crimes seems to Savage a suspect possibility"The official story makes no sense," Savage told WND. "This looks like a classic conspiracy."

"This has all the appearances of a cover-up," Savage told WND. "They created their Reichstag fire. They found their Timothy McVeigh. They created their Jack Ruby. How could one man have blown up the downtown and then raced to the island to kill the teens?

"This is likely a fabrication of the Labour Party, who needs to hold onto power to enforce their multi-culturalist, Muslim-favoring, anti-nationalist views," he continued, "especially in light of the earlier 'credit' for this atrocity claimed by the radical Muslim group whose leader they were threatening to deport.

"The official story defies logic in the following sense as well," he continued, "if this lone right-winger hated Muslims, as the New York Times is reporting, then why did he slaughter his own people and not Muslims?"

Savage said "Norway's 9/11" could have been stopped, "but it grew far too long, nourished by the bile of Eurosocialism."

"I hoped that incidents like this," he said, "will lead Europeans to come to the defense of their own civilizations and clamp down on the hate and intolerance that takes perverse advantage of European tolerance and openness."

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Young America’s Foundation and others have declared tomorrow, June 8, "Keep Out Kagan Day."
  • Rick Green of WallBuilders is offering a 4-day "Our American Heritage" class.
  • Robert Knight says that anyone who supports equality for gays thinks that they are smarter than God.
  • Anti-Islam activists gathered in lower Manhattan mid-day Sunday to demonstrate against plans to build a mosque near the site of Ground Zero.
  • Michael Savage asks whether or not Americans "understand that the presidency may have been usurped by a foreign power?"
  • Finally, the quote of the day from Peter LaBarbera: "God help us. We have become a sick and very weird culture. In the good old days (before 'she-males' existed), they would just call such people 'perverts.' America was better off then."

Right Wing Round-Up

  • First of all, our congratulations to Pam for being among those who will be honored at the Women's Media Center first annual WMC Media Awards.
  • Dan Gilgoff says that religious conservatives who "have argued for years that legalized gay unions would undermine the basic family unit" are moving toward arguments claiming that marriage equality threaten their religious liberties.
  • Sarah Posner argues that "because of that deception on reproductive rights, it's more important than ever for the president to lay the moral groundwork for his own position -- not just to recognize the moral qualms of abortion opponents."
  • David Hart takes issue Robert Gagnon's assertion that gays should be covered by hate crimes legislation because, he claims, homosexuality is a choice. Hart responds by noting that "current hate crimes law includes religion, which is [also] a choice."
  • Finally, Media Matters has a clip of Michael Savage calling Rush Limbaugh a "total fraud."

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Did you know there is a sports complex in one of Israel's biggest settlements in the West Bank named for John Hagee?
  • For some reason, Richard Viguerie seems to think that the Justice Department's prosecution of the Ted Stevens case under the Bush administration is evidence of a "alliance between leftwing Democratic politicians and corrupt bureaucrats and special interests."
  • Alan Keyes will reportedly be speaking at Washington, DC's "Tea Party" rally next week ... and Fox News has been aggressively promoting them.
  • Phyllis Schlafly declares that her gay son is fully supportive of her right-wing agenda and likewise opposes gay marriage.
  • Because WorldNetDaily apparently doesn't have enough nutcases writing columns for them, they've decided to bring Michael Savage on board as well.
  • Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association in Michigan, was greeted by hundreds of protesters when he arrived to speak at Central Michigan University last night.
  • More than 250,000 people have reportedly signed a petition sponsored by the Cardinal Newman Society calling on Notre Dame to withdraw its invitation to President Obama to speak at the May 17 commencement.
  • The Vatican has reportedly rejected at least three of President Obama's candidates to serve as U.S. ambassador because they support abortion.
  • Finally,  Franklin Graham is beginning to sound more and more like Pat Robertson:
  • America was once a nation that honored and trusted God, albeit imperfectly. Many of today’s prestigious institutions of higher learning were founded by Christians, and precepts from Scripture were foundational for instruction. Presidents and national leaders embraced Christianity’s influence on civil matters, and God’s moral laws were encoded into our judicial system.

That godly heritage has been abandoned and rejected, and I believe we are paying the price today. Greed isn’t good. The lack of personal integrity has massive consequences. We’ve built a culture of our own making that is on the verge of destruction.

    ...

This is a time of testing for our country. Will we acknowledge our sin and turn back to God? Will we call on God for help in our hour of distress, or will we continue to further distance ourselves from His aid?

God always leaves room for repentance. He is patient and long-suffering. But there comes a time when He finally allows us to reap what we’ve sown. That will be a bitter harvest, one that I pray we will not experience.

Right Wing Round-Up

Today's best reporting on the Right from around the web:

  • Pam reports that MassResistance,'s Brian Camenker has turned his attention to attacking "the threatening Trans Agenda."
  • Crooks and Liars catches Bill O'Reilly citing an online poll that came from his own website to explain why he shouldn't have to apologize to reporter Helen Thomas for calling her the "wicked witch."
  • Good as You takes issue with ProtectMarriage.com's assertion that the California legislature should stop "disrespecting the will of voters and wasting taxpayer resources on meaningless legislative resolutions" regarding Prop. 8.
  • Frederick Clarkson has a good piece on RH Reality Check on where the abortion reduction agenda really came from. Here's a hint: it involves Frank Pavone.
  • AU reports that the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology has informed Louisiana that it will not be hosting its 2011 conference in New Orleans because of the state's policy of attacking evolution in its science curricula.
  • Media Matter says other outlets are spreading an inane Washington Times story that "rehashes several false and baseless claims regarding President Obama's presidential campaign and the American flag and uncritically quotes radio host Michael Savage attacking Obama as a 'Neo-Marxist' and 'street agitator' to whom 'our flag is just a rag.'"
  • Finally, Box Turtle Bulletin posts a truly absurd ad from American Forever that appeared in the Salt Lake City Tribune and the Deseret News over the weekend opposing the Common Ground Initiative.

James Dobson: Gay, Crazy, or Wife Killer?

I don’t write much about Michael Savage here, mainly because Media Matters covers him so well but also because I think he’s an insufferable jerk and a fraud.  But today Media Matters has a typically stupid quote from him that is actually kind of relevant to the things I write about here:

Discussing "children" on the November 14 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage stated: "I'm as good an expert as any. I have found in my life that most of the Ph.D. experts on children are either gay or crazy and were never married. Or if they were married, they either tried to kill their wife or were in rehab for a few years, and then came out and went into psychotherapy to find out why they killed, or attempted to kill. And then they washed it all away, and suddenly they're experts on childrearing."

Interesting.  Which category would James Dobson fall into?

James C. Dobson, Ph.D., is founder and chairman of Focus on the Family … [and] a licensed psychologist in the state of California and a licensed marriage, family and child counselor in both California and Colorado. Dobson was for 14 years an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and served for 17 years on the Attending Staff of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles in the Division of Child Development and Medical Genetics. He has an earned Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (1967) in the field of child development.

And since I’m already writing a post about Savage, I guess I may as well just go ahead and mention this as well:

Nationally-syndicated talk show host Michael Savage is set to interview former German member of the Hitler Youth, Hilmar von Campe this Tuesday, November 18

The program will focus on similarities, which von Campe sees between the rise of totalitarianism under Hitler and the current social and political trends inside the United States.

"Every day brings this nation closer to a Nazi-style totalitarian abyss," writes von Campe, now a U.S. citizen, and author of "Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America."

Radio’s Michael Savage Tells 8 Million Listeners Gays 'Threaten Your Very Survival'

"The radical homosexual agenda will not stop until religion is outlawed in this county,” insisted the talker.
