Barber: The FFRF are Bullies Who Need to be Punched in the Mouth

Matt Barber is quite fond of likening organizations that dare to disagree with Liberty Counsel's radical right-wing agenda to bullies who just need to be punched in the mouth.  And that is exactly the remedy he suggests people use when dealing with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, since the group is trampling the Constitution while engaging in "religious cleansing" and needs to be taught a lesson:

Yes, of course he merely means it "metaphorically" ... because everyone knows that nothing teaches a bully a message like being "metaphorically" punched in the mouth.

Liberty Counsel: In an 'Irony of Unimaginable Proportions," the 'War on Christmas' is Now Forcing Christians Into the Closet

Today, Mat Staver and Matt Barber were back with another dispatch from the never-ending "war on Christmas," this time voicing their outrage about a decision by a Florida elementary school to remove a nativity scene its Christmas display.  According to reports, the nativity scene is now being stored in a closet ... which prompted Staver and Barber to comment on the "irony of unimaginable proportions" that now "Christians are being forced into the closet":

Irony Becomes the Latest Casualty in the 'War on Christmas'

Every year, a handful of conservative pundits and Religious Right activists launch a "war on Christmas" to pressure retailers to use the word "Christmas" in their advertising and displays instead of phrases like "happy holidays" on the grounds that not mentioning Christmas is wildly offensive to Christians.

So it is more than a little ironic to see Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel, one of the leaders of this annual "war on Christmas" crusade, complaining about companies and municipalities that bow to the "tyranny of the minority" by changing their holiday displays "in order to not offend a kind of obnoxious few people who are looking around every corner to find some reason to be offended":

Liberty Counsel: God's Judgment is on America for Electing Obama and 'Adopting Sin as Official Public Policy'

It has been two weeks since President Obama was re-elected and Mat Staver and Matt Barber do not seem to have gotten over it yet as they dedicated a recent program to lamenting that America has re-elected the "most liberal, socialist, anti-liberty, anti-Israel, anti-life, anti-marriage, anti-religious values, anti-religious freedom, anti-free enterprise and pro-regulation president in American history" and, in doing so, has brought God's judgment upon itself by "adopting sin as official public policy":

Right Wing Leftovers - 11/16/12

  • Allen West's request for a recount in his lost bid for re-elections has been denied.
  • On a related note, Gary Cass claims that West is being denied a recount because "he’s being singled out as a Christian elected official."
  • Matt Barber says that churches that do not preach against homosexuality "are not engaging in love and grace; they are doing something most hateful."
  • Beware! The "Twilight" books and movies are a "doorway to darkness."
  • Franklin Graham is now claiming he was unaware that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association described Mormonism as a "cult" and was "shocked" when he found out!
  • The guest on the most recent episode of "God Knows" with Cindy Jacobs explained how he found Jesus by watching TBN while on LSD.
  • Finally, FRC's latest prayer update says that President Obama's re-election and the spread of marriage equality are signs that "religious oppression and persecution ... is already underway, and will only increase."

Barber: Gay Marriage is a Weapon Designed to Destroy Religious Liberty

On Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Mat Staver and Matt Barber discussed a lawsuit filed by a lesbian couple against the owners of Liberty Ridge Farms in upstate New York after they refused to allow the couple to hold their wedding on the grounds, citing religious objections.

For Barber, this was proof that the push for marriage equality is not actually about marriage or equality, but simply nothing more than "a political and legal calculus that is being used as a weapon to destroy religious liberty":

Right Wing Leftovers - 11/13/12

  • Matt Barber responds to the election results by declaring that "God will not be mocked."
  • Oh good, Joel Gilbert says that a sequel to "Dreams From My Real Father" is in the works.
  • Peter LaBarbera is furious that "the national Republican Party now has no problem if the Republican is openly homosexual."
  • Bryan Fischer says that if the GOP hopes to survive, "it must say no to amnesty, no to an increase in the debt ceiling, and an emphatic no to gay marriage."
  • Finally, FRC prays in response to the election: "Heavenly Father, yet grant us victory beyond these defeats! Reverse four states' embrace of same-sex "marriage," our national embrace of unprecedented economic irresponsibility; our affirming of those who advocate for abortion, homosexuality, lack of support for Israel, passive or active support for Islamist regimes and groups and other policies and practices that defy you and will bring harm to our nation."

Right Wing Leftovers - 11/6/12

  • Ralph Reed will hold "a news briefing to discuss the results of a post-election survey showing the impact of the evangelical vote and other faith-based voters on the outcome of the 2012 elections." We can't wait.
  • Matt Barber is now apparently an expert on energy independence.
  • The Family Research Council is predicting "massive turnout among Values Voters" and is taking credit for that turnout.
  • Phyllis Schlafly says "increasingly atheistic public schools ... are probably the biggest reason for this decline in religion among youth."
  • Gary Bauer makes the final case for Mitt Romney.
  • Finally, after saying that he wouldn't vote for [Mitt Romney] if Satan were running against him," WND's Joseph Farah bravely announces that he will, in fact, vote for Mitt Romney.

Reisman: Sex-Ed Turns Children into Prostitutes and 'Little Sexual Deviants'

Reisman: Sex-Ed Turns Children into Prostitutes and ‘Little Sexual Deviants’ Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber has been promoting new claims by Judith Reisman, a fellow professor at Liberty University, that the Department of Health and Human Services may be breaking the law by actively “grooming” children for sex. Wonkette published quite the takedown of Barber’s column, noting that he and Reisman both glaringly distort Alfred Kinsey’s research. Reisman spoke to Janet Mefferd about the column, where she said that the HHS along with groups like Planned Parenthood and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, a group she compares to the Hitler Youth and says is part of the “pedophile movement,” are “grooming children” to embrace sexual activities that “either could kill them or maim them.” She warns that comprehensive sexual education will lead to “drug abuse, alcohol abuse and everything else,” including higher rates of venereal diseases and AIDS, by “teaching [children] sexual perversions in order to turn them into little sexual deviants.”

Mefferd: When you’re talking about these sexual educators, are you talking about people like Planned Parenthood, GLSEN, some of these groups?

Reisman: Sure, it’s all criminal activity and it’s all been to violate every rule and common sense and our prior common law, but all of this was essentially activity that involved grooming children to become either pedophiles, pederasts or to enter into other kinds of sexual activities that either could kill them or maim them or to normalize prostitution of children and by children, and all the dysfunctions that go with that which include drug abuse, alcohol abuse and everything else.

Reisman: We’re hit with all these VDs and AIDS and now we’re going to come into your classroom, says the sex educators, now we’re going to come into your classroom and we’re going to teach you more criminal stuff about AIDS under that rubric and now they’re in there trying to talk about bullying as the reason and so forth. But the major thing we’re talking about across-the-board is lowering children’s inhibitions, lowering their resistance to sex and teaching them sexual perversions in order to turn them into little sexual deviants, and that is exactly what is taking place.

Seeing that Reisman has zero credentials in the field of sexuality (she has her degrees in Communications) no one takes her seriously, save for those who agree with her calls to ban pornography and fight the scourge of “erototoxins,” it was no surprise that she lashed out at the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Sociological Association during the interview.

According to Reisman, these groups all reject her claims and back comprehensive sex-ed because…you guessed it; they are run by pedophiles themselves! She alleges that these professional organizations are led by pedophiles who have “their eyes on children for sexual purposes” and as a result endorse such health programs.

Not only have pedophiles taken over the fields of psychology, psychiatry and sociology, but she also warns that gay judges have been unfairly finding in favor of sex-ed programs, and conservative lawyers (like those trained at Liberty University) need to fight the “sexual perversion” backed by LGBT legal groups and challenge their supposed legal dominance. “We’ve got to sue the pants off these guys and get them put away in jail, just like [Jerry] Sandusky and the rest of them,” Reisman said. “It’s time to bring these people down.”

It isn’t just Sandusky, it wasn’t just Kinsey; it’s all over. We’re talking about pedophiles in power and pederasts in power and they have been in power for many, many years. They’ve been in power in the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, Sociological Association, and so on, and these have always been people who have had their eyes on children for sexual purposes.

We have to get our conservative lawyers to be as nasty as some of the gay, lesbian, bisexual transgender and undecided, Lambda Defense and all those folks are. We have to go into courtrooms ready with our information at the fingertips and swinging. No judge who is homosexual or who has any other sexual perversion, that’s what it used to always be called for various good and logical reasons that only have to do with health and welfare, should ever be permitted to rule on a sexual issue because their special interests are such that they cannot be objective about the information. We’ve got to sue the pants off these guys and get them put away in jail, just like Sandusky and the rest of them. It’s time to bring these people down.

Barber & Staver: California Law Banning 'Change Therapy' is a Form of Bullying and Abuse

When California Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation banning the use of therapy designed to change the sexual orientation of patients under the age of 18, the anti-gay zealots at Liberty Counsel were quick to file suit against the new law.

On their "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Mat Staver and Matt Barber explained that it was important for them to file suit because, as Barber said, the ban on such therapy was really nothing more than "bullying" of children with unwanted same-sex attractions.  For his part, Staver warned that it would harm children who have been molested by pedophiles like Jerry Sandusky because if they begin to experience same-sex attraction as a result, they'll be told to "just go with it," which prompted Barber to declare that it was even worse than that because "this law says that the abuse has to continue; they have to continue abusing that boy by affirming and saying you must embrace these dysfunctional attractions now":

Liberty Counsel Opposes, but Doesn't Understand, 'Mix It Up Day'

October 30 is "Mix It Up at Lunch Day" which encourages students to "move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch." The point of the effort is to break up cliques and get students to spend time with different groups of people, but because it is a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Religious Right vehemently opposes it, falsely claiming that "it’s just another thinly veiled attempt to promote the homosexual agenda."

Today, Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber and Steve Crampton weighed in to warn about the dangers of "Mix It Up" day ... despite obviously having absolutely no idea what it is actually about, as Crampton bizarrely asserted that it was a day "where boys can wear girls clothes [or] pretend to be homosexual" or even dress up like an uptight, judgmental Christian who tells everyone they are going to Hell in order to "make fun of Christianity by mocking it":

Religious Right Attacks 'Demonic' and 'Mean' Obama in Final Debate

"Mean," "Demonic," "Retard" -- just some of the words Radical Right leaders used to describe President Obama in his winning debate performance on Oct. 22. Find out who said what.

Crampton: Gay Activists 'Abhor Freedom' and Will Stop at Nothing to Intimidate Christians

On yesterday's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Matt Barber and Steve Crampton discussed the recent decision by Gallaudet University to suspend its chief diversity officer for signing a petition to put Maryland’s marriage equality law on the ballot. Even though gay rights advocates, including the leaders of Marylanders for Marriage Equality and Gov. Martin O’Malley, have said that they strongly disagreed with Gallaudet’s decision, Crampton and Barber declared that it was proof that the Left will try to intimidate anyone who disagrees with the "ridiculous and oxymoronic notion of so-called same-sex marriage."

Crampton went on to assert that liberals and gay rights activists actually "abhor freedom" and "will basically stop at almost nothing in order to accomplish their goals," which is why Christians must wake up and realize that "they want to change society in their own image [and] we've got to stop them":

Right Wing Leftovers - 10/22/12

  • Peter LaBarbera posts "one of the most amazing pieces of correspondence I have received in 20-plus years of opposing the homosexual activist agenda."
  • Harry Jackson says "the United States stands on the threshold of disastrous choices for godly change."
  • Donald Trump promises that he'll release "something very, very big concerning the president of the United States" on Wednesday.
  • Matt Barber says "that we could elect an African-American to lead the free world is indeed a very good thing. We just happened to elect the wrong African-American."
  • Finally, Gary Bauer is out with a new ad that is exactly what you would expect from Gary Bauer:

Barber: 'Our United States Government has Turned its Face From God'

While discussing the importance of prayer leading up to the election and promoting the American Prayer Initiative launched by a group of female Religious Right leaders, Matt Barber warned that America is at a crossroads because "the United States government has turned its face from God" as the Obama administration has worked to implement a "Euro-secular-humanist" ideology through things like abortion and gay marriage.

And everyone knows "how that kind of humanist approach has turned out" because all they have to do is look at Stalinist Russia, Mao's China, and Hitler's Nazi Germany:

Liberty Counsel: Dan Savage is Encouraging Violence Against Christians Like the Nazis Did to the Jews

Earlier this month, Dan Savage set off a bit of controversy when he declared that "every dead gay kid is a victory for the Family Research Council," prompting FRC president Tony Perkins to hint that legal action might be taken against him.

Today, Matt Barber and Shawn Akers discussed Savage's comments on the "Faith and Freedom" radio program during which Barber suggested that Savage was intentionally "sending a signal to the next Floyd Corkins to go in and try again" while Akers asserted that he "didn't want to go off into hyperbole" right before he declared that Savage's remarks were just like "Hitler's programmatic desensitization of the German people toward the Jewish population":

Barber: Personhood Amendments are Just Like Efforts to Free the Slaves

Earlier this year, the Oklahoma Supreme Court unanimously struck down efforts to place a personhood amendment on the ballot that would declare embryos to be "persons" from the moment of conception, ruling that it was "clearly unconstitutional." That decision prompted Liberty Counsel to file a petition with the United States Supreme Court asking the Court to hear the case because it "presents an historic opportunity for the Court to address the issue of a state’s right to amend its own constitution to acknowledge what science has long recognized."

Today, in discussing the legal efforts that Liberty Counsel is undertaking on behalf of this effort, Matt Barber explained that efforts to pass "personhood" amendments is just like effort to end slavery because "this merely does what we did in freeing the slaves; this frees these little people from the overhanging threat of abortion homicide":

Right Wing Leftovers - 10/15/12

  • It must be exhausting for the American Family Association to be constantly fighting the "gay agenda" where it doesn't exist.
  • Matt Barber says this election is the most important in US history and "America’s future really does hang in the balance."
  • James Dobson says pretty much the same thing, warning that "given the state of the world and the decline of our country, how can a single Christian stay at home on Election Day? The stakes are simply too high.”
  • Mike Huckabee says Christians need to be involved in politics because "if politics is dirty in this country, it's dirty because not enough good, clean people get involved."
  • Paul Ryan and the Romney campaign “ramrodded their way” into a soup kitchen so that Ryan could get his picture taken washing already clean dishes.
  • Finally, you can now get an American-made pair of jeans, thanks to Glenn Beck, for a mere $130.

Right Wing Leftovers - 10/11/12

  • Randall Terry is now running his insanely racist new ads on 130 stations in over 30 markets.
  • Rick Santorum says marriage equality will "will destroy and undermine the church in American more than any other movement."
  • FRC prays that "America's pastors [will] arise to pray, preach and partner to communicate the whole Word of God as it pertains to our elections, our candidates and our nation without fear and intimidation. May the election of God-fearing public servants and God-sent Revival be the result!"
  • Speaking of FRC, their PAC is now running radio ads against Sen. Claire McCaskill.
  • Finally, Matt Barber says "President Obama is a wolf. Though he purports to be Christian, his policies are decidedly un-Christian. This man eagerly advances a culture of death ... Mr. Obama has shown utter disregard - if not total disdain - for the U.S. Constitution."

Staver & Barber: Banning 'Ex-Gay' Therapy Is Like Encouraging Alcoholism, Pedophilia, & Kleptomania

California recently passed a law banning sexual orientation conversion therapy for minors and the anti-gay Religious Right is predictably outraged, prompting Liberty Counsel to file suit because, as Mat Staver and Matt Barber explained on the "Faith and Freedom" radio program today, banning therapists from seeking to turn gay kids straight is like requiring therapists to help people accept and embrace their alcoholism, pedophilia, or kleptomania:

Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber joined talk show host Sandy Rios today where he maintained that the children of same-sex couples are in “disordered and dysfunctional households where immorality is being modeled that is obviously not the gold standard and not the best environment for them.” Barber was responding to Justice Kennedy’s claim that California children of same-sex couples “want their parents to have full recognition and status,” a point Barber dismissed since California already has a civil unions law, while then adding that he opposes civil unions.... Last week, Mat Staver and Matt Barber hailed legislation passed in North Dakota and elsewhere aimed at dramatically curtailing the availability and legality of abortion, with Barber proclaiming that Roe v Wade was no different than the infamous Dred Scott decision, calling them "twin bookends of evil" and "shameful decisions that are a blight on America's history": MORE >

On a recent "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Matt Barber and Steve Crampton discussed the looming Supreme Court hearing over the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act during which they declared that if the Court strikes it down, "it is high time the people rise up against the tyranny of the judiciary." "If the judges foist this upon us, we need to resist," proclaimed Crampton, which prompted Barber to respond that Christians will have seriously consider civil disobedience, saying "in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr, it may be the time for... Last week, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman announced that, inspired by his son’s coming out, he now supports marriage equality. Religious Right activists are, of course, responding with a characteristic lack of tact and grace. Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber, for example, denounced Portman for trying to “accommodate his son’s abhorrent lifestyle.” “... The Religious Right has been predictably outraged over a new transgender-inclusive policy in Massachusetts that is designed to prevent gender identity-discrimination in schools and so it was only a matter of time before Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber weighed in, which he did on a recent radio program where he compared being transgender to a Caucasian child deciding that he is really an Asian child or a person deciding that they are a horse and wanting to run in the Kentucky Derby. "The [LGBT] chain is only as strong as the weakest link," Barber declared, and "this... MORE >
