Wallnau: Don't Say "Dominionism," At Least Not In Front Of The Media

Ever since the New Apostolic Reformation had its political coming out party at Rick Perry's recent "The Response" prayer rally, there has been a lot of investigation and discussion of the movement and the brand of Dominion Theology that is promotes ... so much so, in fact, that NAR-affiliated leaders have suddenly begun trying to downplay all their talk of taking dominion.

Os Hillman, the man behind the Reclaiming The Seven Mountain website, has recently suggested that activists should stop using the word "dominion" and instead use the word "influence" because "dominion" make the "secular media [think] that Christians want to rule the world."

On his website, Hillman posts pieces written by Johnny Enlow, author of "The Seven Mountain Prophecy" which asserts that goal of Christians ought to be to establish a "virtual theocracy" in which government leaders will also be religious leaders so that they can present "the nations of the world to the Lord as His possession" and bring about the return of Christ.

On Hillman's Seven Mountains website, Enlow says that the best way for Christians to accomplish this goal is through stealth:

The goal is not just to have Christians in high places, but rather to have Christians who are called to be in high places step into that role. And wearing a "Christian” label on our sleeve isn’t the point. We need to learn to be "as wise as serpents and harmless as doves” and realize that stealth authority and influence are much preferred over overt authority and influence. A low profile diffuses resistance from the opposition.

Hillman's website also sells the works of Lance Wallnau, one of the leading Seven Mountains proponents whose work has been central to the mission to "do whatever is necessary" to claim dominion.

Last week, we discovered a video featuring Hillman, Enlow, and Wallnau discussing the attention that Seven Mountains and Dominionism have been receiving during which Wallnau suggested that using language about "taking over" is fine to use when "preaching to the choir" but such language shouldn't be used in situations where the media or secular audiences are present:

Wallnau: Part of my problem is that people will take my message, link their own interpretation to it and go out and talk about taking down high places, coming against the Devil - I am very particular where I use that language because you don't want to startle the horses out of the barn. If you're talking to a secular audience, you don't talk about having dominion over them, I mean, my gosh, that's what their afraid of, that's what the Left is saying the Right wants to do and the Right is saying the Left wants to do.

So the anxiety is based on misinformation. What I've said today is I want to find out who's anointed with the right ideas and I want to serve them - to be a Joseph, you're going to shape Pharaoh.

This whole idea of taking over, and that language of take over, it doesn't actually help - it's good for preaching to the choir, and it's shorthand if we interpret it right, but it's very bad for media.

Christian Reconstructionists Warn Of "Tyrannical" Seven Mountains Theology

Earlier today Brian noted how even conservative Christian activists, like talk-show host Janet Mefferd, are marveling at the "strange turn of events" that had brought the self-proclaimed apostles and prophets of the New Apostolic Reformation together with the traditional Religious Right activists and put on display for the world to see at Gov. Rick Perry's "The Response" prayer rally.

But it is not just "mainstream" Religious Right activists who are alarmed at this development, as now even the full-blown Christian Reconstructionists at American Vision are warning about NAR's increasing influence.

Keep in mind that American Vision is run by Gary DeMar, a bona fide Christian Reconstructionist, and that the organization hosts conferences entitled "2010 Sovereignty and Dominion conference - Biblical Blueprints for Victory!"

Yesterday Joel McDurmon, the Director of Research for American Vision, posted a piece on the organization's website warning about the rise of the NAR and their Seven Mountains theology and saying that while Christian Reconstructionists like them "would properly recriminalize sodomy, adultery, and abortion," they seek to implement such policies through evangelism, not by seizing control.

By contrast, Seven Mountain advocates, asserts McDurmon, seek to seize control in order to institute a theocracy:

The First and most concerning point is that the 7MD version does what critics of traditional dominion theology have falsely accused us of doing the whole time: planning to grab the reins of influence through whatever means necessary, usurp the seats of political power, and impose some tyrannical “theocracy” upon society from the top down with a “whether you like it or not, it’s for your own good” mentality.

...

There is no doubt, however, that the 7MDs do have a goal of top-down control of society. This is explicit in their literature in many places. The exception to this is when they are in PR mode: then they downplay and even completely deny that they believe in dominion.

...

This is exactly the threat—top-down threat, totalitarian threat, eschatological holocaust threat—that 7MD presents to us.

American Vision is not that; they are not us; we are not them.

Perhaps more should be written on these guys and the threats they pose to society. They may have a few better political ideas, but they are just as dangerous in degree as the most radical of the left.

McDurmon quotes Peter Wagner, Lance Wallnau, Rick Joyner, Johnny Enlow and others who advocate Seven Mountains theology to warn that they "desire to grab the seats of power and install a temporary totalitarianism for your own good which they think will usher in the messiah."

So when someone who openly admits that their goal is to "recriminalize sodomy, adultery, and abortion" starts warning about the "tyrannical" nature of NAR and their Seven Mountains theology, it seems like proof that Dominionism is not just some left-wing conspiracy theory.

Perry Partners With Founder of Seven Mountains Dominionism For Prayer Rally

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has tried to distance himself from the many extreme activists he is working with to put on The Response prayer rally, like the pastor who labeled Oprah Winfrey the harbinger of the Antichrist and the self-proclaimed ‘Apostle’ who called the Statue of Liberty a “demonic idol.” But Perry is open about his ties to advocates of Seven Mountains Dominionism, an ideology which demands that fundamentalist Christians take total control over all aspects of society. Dominionism advocate Jim Garlow is directing “National Church Mobilization” for The Response and other Dominionist endorsers of The Response include Cindy Jacobs and David Barton. Even the American Family Association, which is the official host of the prayer rally, now promotes Seven Mountains Dominionism.

Today, Perry appeared on Barton’s radio show WallBuildersLive and announced that he has received support from televangelist James Robison, who is leading the effort to rally the Religious Right around a Perry campaign for the presidency (though of course the rally is “apolitical”). Perry also mentioned that he is working with Loren Cunningham and his “prayer warriors” to mobilize support for The Response.

Who is Loren Cunningham? Cunningham was one of three founders of the radical “Seven Mountains Dominionist” ideology, which he says he received directly from God:

It was August, 1975.My family and I were up in a little cabin in Colorado. And the Lord had given me that day a list of things I had never thought about before. He said "This is the way to reach America and nations for God.And {He said}, "You have to see them like classrooms or like places that were already there, and go into them with those who are already working in those areas." And I call them "mind-molders” or "spheres”. I got the word "spheres” from II Corinthians 10 where Paul speaks in the New American Standard about the "spheres” he had been called into. And with these spheres there were seven of them, and I’ll get to those in a moment. But it was a little later that day, the ranger came up, and he said, "There is a phone call for you back at the ranger’s station.” So I went back down, about 7 miles, and took the call. It was a mutual friend who said, "Bill Bright and Vonnette are in Colorado at the same time as you are. Would you and Darlene come over and meet with them? They would love to meet with you.” So we flew over to Boulder on a private plane of a friend of ours. And as we came in and greeted each other, {we were friends for quite a while}, and I was reaching for my yellow paper that I had written on the day before. And he said, "Loren, I want to show you what God has shown me!” And it was virtually the same list that God had given me the day before. Three weeks later, my wife Darlene had seen Dr. Francis Shaffer on TV and he had the same list! And so I realized that this was for the body of Christ.

I gave it for the first time in Hamburg, Germany at the big cathedral there to a group of hundreds of young people that had gathered at that time. And I said, "These are the areas that you can go into as missionaries. Here they are: First, it’s the institution set up by God first, the family. After the family was church, or the people of God. The third was the area of school, or education. The fourth was media, public communication, in all forms, printed and electronic. The fifth was what I call "celebration”, the arts, entertainment, and sports, where you celebrate within a culture. The sixth would be the whole area of the economy, which starts with innovations in science and technology, productivity, sales, and service. The whole area we often call it business but we leave out sometimes the scientific part, which actually raises the wealth of the world. Anything new, like making sand into chips for a microchip, that increases wealth in the world. And then of course prediction sales and service helps to spread the wealth. And so the last was the area of government. Now government, the Bible shows in Isaiah 33 verse 22 that there are three branches of government, so it’s all of the three branches: judicial, legislative, and executive. And then there are subgroups under all of those seven groups. And there are literally thousands upon thousands of sub-groups. But those seven can be considered like Caleb: "Give me this mountain,” and they can be a "mountain” to achieve for God.

Dominionist Johnny Enlow explains the necessity to take control over the “government mountain” in particular because “Lucifer sits at the top of this mountain”:

The Mountain of Government is perhaps the most important of the mountains because it can establish laws and decrees that affect and control every other mountain. Therefore, we find Lucifer himself entrenched on this mountain as the usurping "prince” over the nations. Whereas God’s government is established through service and humility, Satan’s government is established through manipulation and pride. Lucifer sits at the top of this mountain, where he specifically functions as the Antichrist. His role over the nations is to stir and raise up whatever would defeat the purposes of God on earth. When he is firmly entrenched in a nation, that nation will manifest the following "antichrist” distinctives.

As Perry prepares his presidential bid, his close ties to extreme brands of fundamentalism continue to emerge.

Wallnau: Our Government Leaders Are Hand-Picked By Satan

Since I wrote a post a few weeks back about David Barton's open embrace of Seven Mountains Dominionism, I have gone back and re-read several of the books I have on the topic and have been watching lots of videos about it.

Today, I came across a video of Lance Wallnau - the leading Seven Mountains theologian operating today - talking about it and he makes two points that I think deserve to be highlighted: 1) that Seven Mountains Dominionism is founded upon the belief that every sphere of influence is literally being held captive by people hand-picked by Satan and 2) it is the obligation of Christians to "seize those high places" in order to bring about the return of Jesus Christ:

The book "The Seven Mountain Prophecy" by Johnny Enlow makes this point even more blatantly:

Elijah will come first and raise up that which will destroy the spirit of Baal and the spirit of Jezebel here on Earth. We are going to take on the false prophet and the beast, and we're going to annihilate both of them. When they are crushed, we will come to the Lord and say "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our God" (Rev. 11:15). We will present the nations of the world to the Lord as His possession. They will be the dowry that the Father is providing for us to present to the Bridegroom. Lovesick for His bride, Jesus will no longer be able to restrain Himself and will burst through the clouds to come sweep us off our feet.

...

A government can potentially function as a virtual theocracy, but only as the individuals in power allow themselves to be puppets (i.e. servant) of the theocracy (God's rule and reign.) The goal is to bring the influence of heaven to bear on whatever political machinery that exists ...One of the primary roles of future government leaders will be to instruct in righteousness. The more God's judgments are poured out on earth, the more explicitly they will be able to give that instruction ... A new model of national leadership will develop as God exalts His mountain above all other mountains. There will be Joseph-type presidents of nations who will carry great spiritual authority and great civil authority. At various times, these presidents will need to step back and forth between those roles and address the concerns of each. There will be times to address the nation and say "I will now speak to you outside of my civil authority but in my capacity as a minister and servant of God." One can then address the moral and righteousness issues of the nation and speak out of the spiritual authority God has given him or her.

Focus Rep Attended 2009 "7 Mountains" Conference With Uganda's Oyet

While searching for something else, I stumbled upon this page for conference held in February of 2009 called "Reclaim 7 Mountains of Culture."

I took a quick look at the list of breakout sessions during the conference and saw that they consisted of 7 Mountains/Dominionist activists like Os Hillmam, Lance Wallnau, and Johnny Enlow ... as well as others like Julius Oyet, one of the key backers of Uganda's "kill the gays" legislation:

In addition to Oyet, the conference also featured a session lead by Marc Fey of Focus on the Family:

I don't really have anything specific to say about this - I just thought it was interesting and worth highlighting.

Random Book Blogging: God Destroyed New Orleans With Katrina To Show Gays He Loves Them

Today's installment of Random Book Blogging come from "The Seven Mountain Prophecy" by Johnny Enlow, who explains that God sent Hurricane Katrina to destroy New Orleans because it was his way of showing gays how much he loves them:

To stay locked in homosexuality is to remain in worship of Baal - and it is specifically Baal who is about to suffer profound repercussions brought on by the Elijah revolution.

As mentioned in a previous chapter, I wrote a prophetic newsletter in October 2004 (before Katrina) warning of judgments coming to a stretch of land from Mobile to New Orleans. I wrote that an altar of Baal existed between these cities and that Mobile, Biloxi, and New Orleans all carried stones of this altar. Mardi Gras began in Mobile back in 1699, though New Orleans has become more famous for it. The origins of Mardi Gras come from the fertility festival of Lupercalia, which has direct roots to Baal worship. Mardi Gras is essentially a celebration of Baal. I wrote that the next hurricanes would be judgment storms, and that New Orleans was headed for a "big uneasy." I also wrote "Biloxi: The Eye of the Hurricane Has Your Name on It." I shared that the hurricanes of 2004 were warning storms of what would be God's manifest judgments of Baal's altar at the geographical area of our nation.

A mass homosexual parade and celebration that was to bring many millions of dollars to New Orleans was scheduled the week Katrina hit the city. Baal was doubling up in the city by adding homosexual decadence to his existing active altar there. Hurricanes Wilma and Rita also each brought judgments on cities that were about to host major gay events - Key West and Cancun - thus seriously curtailing the celebration of gay acceptance. God loves homosexuals so much that he will spare no expense in making it clear that homosexuality is an abomination to Him and that he can deliver someone from it. The name Katrina even means "purity" - perhaps a message of God's intent for that hurricane. What looks like God's anger against homosexuals is really His passionate love working to spare them from greater judgment - lifetime in real hell.

May Day on the Mall: Lifting The Curse That Obama's Election Has Brought Upon America

On Saturday, May 1, Religious Right leaders and public officials will gather at the steps below the Lincoln Memorial to beg God to forgive America for having elected wicked leaders like President Obama. If you can’t make it to the national mall on Saturday morning, you can watch live on God TV or via webcast thanks to the American Family Association.

The "May Day - A Cry to God for a Nation in Distress" event is the brainchild of Janet Porter, a Religious Right activist/conspiracy theory-promoting radio host, and member of presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee’s inner circle. Porter believes America is under a curse for having “made the choice of death” by electing President Obama (even though God TV warned us not to). She announced the May Day event at last fall’s How to Take Back America conference.

Since then, Porter has lined up support from a significant number of Religious Right heavy-hitters like former Focus on the Family head James Dobson, who recorded an audio message recruiting pastors to get involved, and at least five members of Congress, including  Randy “Pray Against Health Care” Forbes (Virginia), Trent “Obama is an enemy of humanity” Franks (Arizona), Louie “Hate Crimes Act is a Pedophile Protection Act” Gohmert (Texas), and Steve “Know Your Enemies” King (Iowa).

When Cindy Jacobs Caused Washington DC to Flood

Given the relatively recent rise of self-proclaimed prophets and apostles such as Cindy Jacobs and Lou Engle within the Religious Right movement, I've recently read several books by Engle, Peter Wagner, and Johnny Enlow to try and get a better understanding of the theology and agenda behind this movement.

Yesterday, I finished reading Jacobs' "The Reformation Manifesto: Your Part in God's Plan to Change Nations Today" and just wanted to highlight a section that exemplifies the difference between the standard Religious Right leaders and this new breed of prophetic intercessors.

Whereas people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell regularly made (and, in some cases, continue to make) news for claiming that specific natural disasters were the result of God signaling his displeasure with humanity, activists like Jacobs regularly take responsibility for unleashing these sorts of events.

In her book, Jacobs recounts an incident in 2006 when she came to Washington, DC for a conference.  During her visit, God gave Jacobs a "prophetic word" that He was going to "wash Washington" and gave her a vision of "angels in chariots of fire encircling the area, waiting to be invited in." Jacobs delivered her prophecy to the conference, noting that "not only were we interceding for the upcoming mid-term elections in our nation, but for righteousness and justice to be released into the courts."

According to Jacobs, "there was tremendous warfare in the heavens that night" following her prophecy ... which was then followed by a rainstorm which flooded the nation's capital

That night after the meeting, the skies over the Capitol looked like the bombing of Baghdad. Lightning and thunder rocked the skies and the rain began to fall. Over the weekend, the rain increased. The skies looked like the heavens would, with the angelic host fighting the powers of darkness over the city. There was war in the heavenlies!

The news services on Monday June 26, 2006 reported in the natural what the prophets prophesied at Shift the Nation. One part of the city was flooded with a five feet deep mudslide covering the Capitol Beltway road for one mile. One of our prayers during the conference was for corruption to be exposed and for God to build a “highway of holiness” across the nation and the Lord has spoken to us quite a bit about an Isaiah 35 holiness movement in Washington, DC.

In addition, as intercessors have been praying about the Free Masonic designs in the original layout of the Federal district by L’Enfant Plaza, the L’Enfant portion of the metrorail subway system in DC was stopped because of water on the electrical lines.

I also saw a vision the first night of a huge old tree being pushed back and forth until the roots were loosened from the soil. Considerable time was spent asking the Lord to “uproot” one more Supreme Court justice to help give the votes needed to overturn Roe vs. Wade. God gave us two remarkable signs as the news reported on June 26 that “Not even the White House could escape the damage, as a 100-year-old American elm tree fell near the front door.”

Additionally, The Washington Post reported that the Justice Department located on Constitution Avenue was shut down for a whole day on June 26, 2006. We also prayed and spoke about Ezekiel 47:9-11 which speaks of the river that flows from the throne of God and brings life to where ever it flows. It is one of the most classic passages on revival. As the waters rose in the city, fish were found washed up from the flood for the first time in memory - and fish are a symbol of revival!

Jacobs, Engle, and the like believe that they have supernatural powers of the exact same sort possessed by Jesus Christ, given to them by the Holy Spirit, thus allowing them to know the will of God, perform miracles, and cause events to happen.

I've been studying the Religious Right for more than a decade and have never seen anything like this among the groups and people that we monitor.  But now not only are "prophets" and "apostles" like Jacobs and Engle being welcomed into the more "traditional" movement, they appear to be rapidly changing the nature of the movement itself, with Engle leading the FRC "prayercast" and leading more "mainstream" leaders in Call-like prayer sessions while Jacobs played in key role in orchestrating Janet Porter's upcoming "May Day 2010" prayer rally which is organized entirely around "7 Mountains" dominionist theology and is scheduled to feature several GOP members of Congress.
