Faith 2 Action Issues Its Own "Beck is a Mormon" Warning

Ever since Janet Porter lost her Faith 2 Action radio program earlier this summer, her organization has all but ceased to function, which is what made the sudden appearance of a new piece on the F2A website noteworthy in itself ... but it turned out to be even more interesting because F2A seems have to sprung back to life specifically in order to warn Christians not to get too cozy with Glenn Beck:

Beck can say and write many good things, but that doesn't mean that we should embrace his spiritual position or accept him and other Mormons as Christians.

At a quick glance, some of the Articles of Faith of "the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" can seem very similar to true Christianity. However, Mormons attach very different meanings to certain words that Christians commonly use, such as atonement. Glenn Beck made a reference to atonement in his commencement address at Liberty University in May. According to Mormonism, only Christ's blood shed in the Garden of Gethsemane atones for personal sin. Mormonism also teaches that through the atonement of Christ and by their good deeds and "holy" living, men can one day become gods, and with their multiplicity of "goddess wives," populate their own planets.

Deception takes many forms. Unless we exercise caution, even "the elect" can be deceived (Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22). The apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 to "Test all things. Hold fast what is good."

We can get many good things out of Glenn Beck's books as well as his radio and TV programs. But, Beck and all those associated with Mormonism need our prayers that they will someday see the error and reject it.

This is very similar to the arguments made earlier this week by Brannon Howse who, you may recall, also severed ties with Porter earlier this year due to her embrace of "whacked out folks." So it seems that while Howse and Porter don't agree on the dangers of dominion-oriented prophets and apostles, they do agree that Mormonism is a dangerous cult.

Beck's Mormon Faith Raising Alarms Among The Religious Right

Recently, Glenn Beck seems to have started undergoing a transformation from a Tea Party leader to a Religious Right leader as he increasingly sells his brand of right-wing conspiracy-theorizing in religious terms.

What started with his partnership with David Barton as rapidly expanded to include all sorts of Religious Right activists and now Beck has started claiming that his upcoming "Restoring Honor" rally is literally being orchestrated by God and that "the Spirit of the Lord is going to be unleashed like you've never felt it before" and miracles will take place at the event.

Beck's move to establish himself as a religious leader among conservatives is being met with alarm from some evangelical activists due to the fact that Beck is Mormon, forcing people like Barton to defend his associations with Beck by claiming that Beck shouldn't be judged by the label he wears but by the fruits that he produces. 

But it doesn't look like activists are buying that excuse, as Brannon Howse, president and founder of Worldview Weekend, dedicated his program on Friday to raising alarms about this new development:

Please remember Brannon started the website keepglennbeck.com to support Glenn when the radicals wanted his advertisers to stop advertising in his program. With that said, Brannon believes Glenn has now moved into an area where we must draw a clear line theologically and doctrinally. While Christians can join Glenn in opposing tyranny, socialism, cultural Marxism, and the like but we cannot join him spiritually. Glenn's website describes the event at the Kennedy Center as "Glenn Beck's Divine Destiny" and states that the event will include "uplifting music, nationally-known religious figures from all faith will unite…" Glenn's website also promotes Glenn's "Daily Spiritual Thought" and "join Glenn Beck live each weekday morning at 7:05a ET for prayer." Why must we respectfully and lovingly tell Glenn we cannot agree with him nor find common ground in the area of Biblical doctrine and theology?

Is Glenn now using his TV program to push his Mormon faith? Glenn has the right to push his Mormon faith on TV but Glenn needs to be upfront about it ... The point of today's program is that Christians need to be wise and not fall into the trap of compromising on the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an effort to be politically correct, tolerant and find religious unity with anti-Biblical beliefs and religions. We appreciate the strong and courageous stands that Glenn has taken but Christians understand that Glenn is now, by his own choice, promoting something that is not compatible with Biblical Christian doctrines. We can be co-belligerents on many moral issues with non-Christians but we cannot find common ground theologically and doctrinally. Christians must understand that the Jesus of the cults is not the Jesus of the Bible.

You may recall that, a few months back, Howse severed ties with Janet Porter due to her associations with the "kind of whacked out folks" who preach Dominionism. 

Similarly, Howse's Worldview Weekend has had a long relationship with David Barton, so it'll be interesting to see how Howse handles Barton's increasing involvement with, and defense of, Beck's Mormon faith.

Random Book Blogging: Gary North, AIDS, Ron Paul, and Christian Reconstructionism

Recently, I wrote about how Janet Porter has been, and Rep. Michele Bachmann will be, associating with Gary DeMar and Gary North, both of whom are unabashed Christian Reconstructionists and believe that every aspect of our society should be governed according to Biblical law.

So I recently ordered "Christian Reconstruction: What It Is, What It Isn't," a book co-written by North and DeMar. 

I just started reading it, but I want to highlight a few tidbit from the Preface, written by North, like the fact that in 1976 he "joined the Congressional staff of Dr. Ron Paul" and the fact that he says AIDS is "God's eloquent response to the myth of moral neutrality."

But mostly I just wanted to call attention to this passage:

God is plowing up the modern world. This is softening the Establishment's resistance to many new ideas and movement, among which Christian Reconstruction is barely visible at present. This is good for us now; we need the noise of contemporary events to hide us from humanist enemies who, if they fully understood the long-term threat to their civilization that our ideas post, would be wise to take steps to crush us.

Random Book Blogging: Waging Spiritual Warfare, Literally

This piece from Rachel Tabachnick on strategic level spiritual warfare (SLSW), the ideology behind the growth of "prayer warrior" networks across the nation, reminded me of something I wanted to highlight from book I have been reading by Chuck Pierce called "The Future War of the Church: How We Can Defeat Lawlessness and Bring God's Order to the Earth."

Pierce has not been as openly political as have been the likes of Cindy Jacobs and Lou Engle, but he has been making inroads, having been involved in Janet Porter's May Day rally.  Pierce has deep ties to Jacobs and is actually next in line to take over C. Peter Wagner's New Apostolic Reformation dynasty, with Wagner recently explaining that his Global Harvest Ministries was merging with Pierce's Glory of Zion (GOZ) International into something called Global Spheres, Inc. (GSI).

Whenever I write about how this new brand of prophetic intercessors is working their way into the mainstream Religious Right movement, I tend to end up relying on the word "literally" a lot, as in: "when they call themselves prophets and apostles, they mean that 'literally.'"

I do that because I think that people tend to assume, when they hear these activists talk about things like waging spiritual warfare against demon strongholds, that they are speaking in some figurative or metaphorical sense.

They're not.

In his book, Pierce lays out the explanation of why they must engage in this type of spiritual warfare, explaining that sin allows Satan to gain strongholds in homes, families, communities, and cities that can only be broken by properly directed spiritual warfare ... and again, let me point out that he means this literally: 

Satan gains access to an area in the same way he gains access to an individual's life or a family line: through sin. He does this by encouraging individual or family sin to escalate into corporate sin. When corporate sin enters into our assigned boundaries, we need to be aware of how that sin can build a throne of iniquity and how we, being positioned in God's army, have the authority to dismantle it.

Corporate sin - for example, idolatry, bloodshed, immorality and covenant breaking - creates a break in God's purpose, or order, for a region. Once this break begins to occur, Satan will take advantage to gain an upper hand and being to establish his influence in that area.

...

Satan uses ongoing problems within a community, such as murder, violence, pornography or gangs, to strengthen his throne of iniquity within the community. If your community is plagued by these and other corporate sins, you must realize that Satan has a throne of iniquity in place that is being maintained through these sins.

...

Satan's confederation, through which he maintains his system of worship, is not just limited to witchcraft or covens but can manifest itself through many forms of occultic practices, including satanism, psychic hotlines, spiritism, paganism, goddess worship, voodoo, fortune-telling, palmistry, demon worship, the use of spirit guides, and other New Age practices. The enemy's confederation also extends to those who practice any form of false religion - including Mormonism, Islam, Jehovah's Witnesses, Hinduism, Eastern religions, Native religions, Christian Science, and Bahai - and to those embroiled in secret societies such as Freemasonry, Shriners, Oddfellows and the Elks.

Even though many involved in these practices would deny that they are being driven by a satanic confederation, the fact is that through their practice of what the Bible clearly identifies as evil, these people are contributing to the throne of iniquity upon which Satan is seated in the area.

Earlier this week I noted that Lou Engle and TheCall were operating a mobile prayer strikeforce for exactly this purpose.  Called the Prayer Strike Program, these groups "will be developed and deployed to key regions in the earth where breakthrough is needed for the spreading of the Lord's justice and salvation. In those regions, the teams will engage in concentrated worship, prayer, and fasting."

So if you live in an area with a large population of Mormons or Elks clubs, don't be surprised when you see a battalion of spiritual warriors descend upon your town in order to break the chain of corporate sin and free the region from Satan's control ... literally.

Liberty Counsel Under Attack From "Kaganites" Clones!

Of all the fear-mongering fundraising efforts I have seen from the Religious Right during Elena Kagan's confirmation process, this new email from the Liberty Counsel has got to be among the most absurd.

It starts off like any typical right-wing pitch:

We believe that Elena Kagan is a dangerous, radical activist whose ideologies run counter to virtually everything we hold dear as advocates of pro-family, pro-life and pro-faith values ... [T]here can be no doubt that, if confirmed, she would "Kaganize" the High Court by giving place to her political activism. Even worse, she would implement Barack Obama's dangerous socialist ideologies into law long after he is out of office.

But from there it goes completely off the rails, claiming that the organization needs donations because its budget and resources have been stretched thin not just from fighting the Kagan nomination, but because they have also been forced to fight a veritable army of "Kaganites" who are on a mission to destroy this nation:

Our litigation team has encountered Kagan's former students and colleagues, many of whom now work for the ACLU and other leftist organizations. I frequently come face to face with activists like Elena Kagan in courtrooms and in the media.

We have learned over the years that activists with Kagan's ideology fully intend to destroy the foundations of American faith, family and freedom.

We see firsthand the devastation these "Kaganites" cause in the lives of God-fearing citizens who love the principles upon which this nation was founded and want to lead honest, peaceable lives in a free nation.

Make no mistake, an intentional and strategic assault on our nation's core values of life, liberty and family has been underway for many years now. Today, the assault is being lead by the Obama Administration, its leftist allies, and thousands of radical activists like Elena Kagan. Sadly, many are Kagan's students and protégés who now hold office in our federal government.

Poor Liberty Counsel, all they want is to live honest, peaceable lives ... but they can't because they are constantly under attack by Elena Kagan clones.

Maybe after Janet Porter gets her anti-abortion movie made, she can get to work on turning LC's horror story into her next screenplay.

Porter Goes Deeper Into Dominionism

Last week we noted that, since losing her radio show due to her growing involvement with Dominion theology, Janet Porter appears to have decided to double down by further aligning herself with those who advocate this theology.

Her initial reaction upon losing her show was to lash out at those who accused her of embracing Dominionism, though without much success as her own words and history undermined her defense.   But months have passed since then and Porter is now seemingly aware that any future she hopes to have in Religious Right activism is going to involve a full-embrace of both Dominionism and its most ardent supporters, which helps explain this:

Just take one guess what the focus of this Worldview Super Conference was:

Sovereignty & Dominion: Biblical Blueprints for Victory!

The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:28 that God created us to multiply, fill the earth, and take dominion of His creation for His Glory. When Jesus came to earth, He gave his disciples the Great Commission and told them to make disciples of all nations, Baptize them, and teach them to obey all that he had commanded (Matthew 28:18-20). These two mandates form the basis for why Christ’s Church exists on this planet. Every square inch of this world belongs to King Jesus. It is our privilege to serve Him by exercising servanthood dominion in every area of life.

And this was not a conference that just happened to have a few Dominionists as speakers, but was rather organized by full-blown Christian Reconstructionists like Gary DeMar of American Vision and Gray North. 

DeMar's mission is to see "an America that recognizes the sovereignty of God over all of life, where Christians apply a Biblical worldview to every facet of society. This future America will be again a 'city on a hill' drawing all nations to the Lord Jesus Christ and teaching them to subdue the earth for the advancement of His Kingdom," while North is the son-in-law of Christian Reconstructionist guru R.J. Rushdoony and likewise an open Reconstructionist himself:

While many Christians believe that biblical law is a guide to morality and public ethics, when interpreted in faith, Reconstructionism is unique in advocating that civil law should be derived from and limited by biblical law. For example, they support the recriminalization of acts of abortion and homosexuality, but also oppose confiscatory taxation, conscription, and most aspects of the welfare state. Protection of property and life needs grounding in biblical law, according to Reconstructionism, or the state set free from the restraint of God's law will take what it wishes at a whim. Accordingly, Reconstructionists advocate biblically derived measures of restitution, a definite limit upon the powers of taxation, and a gold standard or equivalent fixed unit for currency.

While Porter's radio program has gone off the air, her WorldNetDaily column seems to have ben abandoned, and even her Faith2Action website is rarely updated, that doesn't mean Porter has disappeared - she's just abandoned her traditional Religious Right activism in favor of linking up with those openly seeking the creation of a theocracy. 

Porter Joins Jacobs' DebCo Army of Mothers

Ever since Janet Porter lost her radio program back in May due to her ties to Cindy Jacobs and Dominionism, I have been curious to see how she would ultimately respond:  would she try to distance herself from the likes of Jacobs in hopes of reclaiming her spot as a viable Religious Right leader or would she see Jacobs' brand of prophetic intercession as her best hope for continuing her own activism. 

It has been hard to figure out just what route Porter intends to take, as she has all but disappeared from the scene in the wake of her ouster.  Aside from lashing out a few times at those who exposed her growing reliance on Dominion theology, Porter's activism has been nonexistent ... even her movie plans and blogging don't seem to be going anywhere.

But I think we can get a sense of which direction Porter is heading in based on this:

Wouldn't you know it, but Cindy Jacobs spoke at that same DebCo meeting ... and that is Jacobs is the founder of Deborah Company which is an army of women "willing to mothers of their nations" and wage spiritual warfare against abortion and transform every sector of society: 

God is looking for mothers of nations. Why mothers? They are God’s change agents in the world. Within the heart of every woman, there beats the call to motherhood. It is the very soul of women to want to protect not only their children, but also the future destiny of the land where God planted them.

Motherhood is not only for those who have natural children. It is for those whose heart beats for the rights of the unborn, little babies crying without food, or young children sold into sex trafficking.

The biblical story of Deborah is about just such a woman. She looked around, saw her nation destroyed, and decided to do something about it. Judges 5:7 says, “...village life ceased…until Deborah arose, a mother in Israel.”

Until is an important word in that passage. To put this in the perspective of modern-day Deborahs, we could say, injustice prevailed until the mothers of the nation arose. Poverty ate away at the soul of school children until Deborah. It seems there are great dangers that threaten the life our parents and grandparents fought for in World War II. This is why we need to answer the call to stand on guard for our nations today. The nation was in danger until Deborah arose!

We need these kind of women today—Deborahs, who are willing to be mothers of their nations. It is time to arise.

This is the heart cry of the Deborah Company. All across the globe there is a coalition of women arising who recognize their nation needs them. New chapters are springing up from the Far East to Central Asia to all of Latin America. Europe is waking up to its need for godly women leaders to say, “Enough is enough!"

Julie Anderson and I were in Barcelona, Spain when I had a dramatic visitation from the Lord. I had a vision of women mounting up on horses across the face of the earth to preach the gospel and change their nations. Julie and I were both dressed in armor and had swords in our hands for battle. I believe those swords were symbolic of the battle that we are in for the souls of our nations today.

After this time, the Lord led me to start a new movement to raise up women in leadership across the face of the earth. It is called the Deborah Company or Deb Co. Our mission statement is “Empowering women to bring reformation and transformation in every sector of society, with a special emphasis on women, children, and the poor.”

Dominionism and The Religious Right: The Merger Is Complete

For weeks now I have been writing regular posts on the increasing intersection between the "mainstream" Religious Right and Dominionist prophetic intercessors like Lou Engle, Cindy Jacobs, Rick Joyner and others.

But I have always been careful to note that just because the more "mainstream" leaders have been joining forces with these self-proclaims prophets and apostles, it didn't mean that they necessarily shared their Dominionist agenda. 

But I think it is fair to say that I no longer need to be so careful, as the leaders of the Religious Right have now openly embraced Seven Mountains Dominionist theology, which is described thusly:

First, human beings are blessed by God. Secondly, these blessed human beings are given a mandate to take dominion of the earth for the purpose of blessing it. ... The first advent of Christ was for the purpose of creating a blessed seed upon the earth - the church. The second coming of Jesus will take place after this blessed seed has completed the Dominion Process upon the earth by making disciples of all nations.

In short, Dominionist theology believes that Christians are called to take "dominion" over every aspect of our culture and use them to create God's kingdom on Earth in order to bring about the return of Jesus Christ. And their method for gaining "dominion" is through something called the "Seven Mountains Mandate," which seeks to place Christians at the top of seven distinct spheres that shape our culture: (1) Business; (2) Government; (3) Media; (4) Arts and Entertainment; (5) Education; (6) Family; and (7) Religion.

One of the leading authorities on the Seven Mountains Mandate among the new apostles and prophets is a man named Lance Wallnau, and here is a video of him explicitly explaining how it is to work:

Most believers on the Earth are more frightened at the prospect of taking on the insurmountable giants represented by the mountains near them in their nations. They're more intimidated by trying to take possession of what is an opposition that has strength and fortification in the natural, from the IRS, to Hollywood, to whatever. Most believers are afraid, so they create a theology that eliminates the responsibility for having to take territory and rather focuses on just getting people saved so that when Jesus comes back he can repopulate the Earth with people that are followers and let him take over the planet.

There is just a little problem with that: the little problem is Heaven is his throne and the Earth is the footstool of his feet and he was told that he was to sit at the Father's right hand until God made his enemies a footstool for his feet, which means He doesn't come back until He's accomplished the dominion of nations.

The point is this: God wants to have the tabernacle at the top of every one of these spheres. You want to know what the spheres are that shape a nation? This is how you take a nation: you have to get into the family - that is why same-sex marriage such a demonic agenda ... because who ever shapes the family mountain shapes the idea of what culture is for a man and wife. You got to get into the education mountain, you know why? Because whoever's ideology is shaping that little kid when he's a child, by the time he's 19, hey for all you know he could become part of the Hitler Youth movement and die for the Fuhrer. Hitler basically knew that if he educated them as kids, he'd have them as sons to go fight for him. Government mountain where your laws get legislated. Media mountain where the truth is debated. And the arts mountain which is where sports and creativity come along, and we've got business and finance. Is it possible that there are seven sovereign spheres of authority?

By the way, that's how you take nations. It's the only way you take nations. There has never been a nation taken as the result of an evangelism harvest. Shocking but true. Believers don't know these things, which is why we get in trouble.

You realize that when you have 8% of a population, that's the key. 8%, that's all it takes. 8%, according to the Center for Religious and Diplomacy, practice Jihad. 8%, according to the research of James Davidson Hunter, are doing the same sex marriage initiative, You've got 80% Jews, Catholics, Protestants, 35% of Evangelicals, even Mormons - you have a very broad constituency of 85-90% of the American population is not for same-sex marriage. How is it that 7% can impose their agenda on the other 90%? It's not because we don't have enough converts to an idea - it's because when Satan is shrewder in his own generation than the Sons of Light, he makes sure that he has his prophets of Baal at the high places. So what you have is a well-positioned 8% whose agenda is working with the will of Principalities and Powers while Christians are in pursuit of the supernatural or glory or prosperity, but they're missing the apostolic assignment. They're to take over spheres and administer them for the glory of God.

It is exceedingly clear that the Seven Mountains is a Dominionist theology that carries with it the ultimate goal of creating God's kingdom on Earth so as to create the conditions needed to bring about Christ's return.

And amazing, it is something that just about every Religious Right leader has now officially embraced.

Last week, Lou Engle was featured on Focus on the Family's "Friday Five" where he announced his latest political endeavor: a groups called Pray and A.C.T.  The acronym A.C.T stands for "Affirming the Basics, Conforming our Lives, and Transforming the Culture," and the "basics" which they are affirming are those values set out in The Manhattan Declaration, the document produced by the Religious Right earlier this year vowing to give their lives to withstand President Obama's attempts to set himself up as a Nazi-like dictator. 

"Transforming the Culture" is a idea rooted in the "spiritual warfare" practiced by the self-styled apostles and prophets, but that pales in comparison to Pray and A.C.T's explicit reliance upon Seven Mountains theology:

For these reasons, we call on all faithful Christians to join us in the fight to defend life, protect and revitalize marriage, and preserve religious liberty and the rights of conscience. We must work tirelessly in all the “seven spheres of cultural influence:” (1) the home, (2) the church, (3) civil government / law / military, (4) business / technology, (5) education, (6) media, and finally (7) arts / entertainment / professional sports.

We noted a while ago that Jim Garlow, who serves as Chairman of Newt Gingrich's Renewing American Leadership is a Seven Mountains advocate and close friend of Lou Engle, so it is no surprise to see him featured on the front page of Pray and A.C.T's website ... but it is surprising to see Gingrich's organization openly aligning itself with Engle's new organization - and it is even more surprising to see all of the other Religious Right leaders who have also climbed on board:

Pray and A.C.T is planning a series of Call-like events leading up to the 2010 election; events that are explicitly rooted in a theology which seeks to place Christians in complete "dominion" over every aspect of this nation ... and this effort is now being supported by the heads of highly influential "mainstream" Religious Right groups like Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, National Organization for Marriage Concerned Women for America, the Southern Baptist Convention, and even a potential Republican presidential candidate in Mike Huckabee. 

A few months ago, Janet Porter of Faith 2 Action lost her radio program because of her growing support for this sort of Seven Mountains Dominionism, and today this very same theology is being embraced by the Religious Right as a whole ... and I don't think it is possible to overstate just what a radical transformation the movement appears to be undergoing.  

Beck, Barton, Six Degrees, and Seven Mountains

When I received email alerts yesterday from Wallbuilders, Renewing American Leadership, and the Faith and Freedom Coalition announcing that their respective leaders - David Barton, Jim Garlow, and Ralph Reed - were all going to appear on Glenn Beck last night, I knew something remarkable was going on.

As it turned out, these men with also joined by several other Religious Right leaders, including NOM's Robert George and John Hagee (John Hagee!?):

The discussion went pretty much as you would expect it would when a bunch of Religious Right leaders who are convinced that America was, is, and ought to always be a Christian nation team up with a far-right conspiracy nut ... so it is not really worth covering.

Instead, I want to use this to further explore something I mentioned last week in my "The Religious Right and Six Degrees of Dominionism" post: though not every person who shares a stage with a controversial figure can be said to share that figure's views, those who either invite such figures to participate in their events or else themselves agree to appear at events hosted by such figures are offering, on some level, their validation of such views. 

In the case of last night's Beck program, it would be unfair to say that Robert George shares the radical views of John Hagee just because they shared the stage; but it is fair to say that Beck does, at least in part, or else he would never have invited Hagee on to participate in this panel.  By the same token, by appearing on Beck's program, George is signaling that he is entirely comfortable using that venue as an outlet through which he is eager to share his own views with an audience who shares Beck's views.

Which brings me to my main point: two of the men featured on Beck's program last night also appeared at Convergence 09:

Perhaps you recall our posts about Convergence 2010, where Janet Porter prayed for control over the media and Cindy Jacobs discussed her personal interactions with Jesus and conducted faith healings and Harry Jackson was declared to be a "modern day Martin Luther King" and Jim Garlow explained how he brought in Lou Engle to lead spiritual warriors in fasting and prayer to pass Proposition 8.

Well, Convergence 09 also featured Jacobs, Jackson, and Garlow plus several other prophetic intercessors like Dutch Sheets, Chuck Pierce, and Seven Mountains leader Lance Wallnau ... as well as David Barton.

According to the schedule, Barton spoke for three hours, but unfortunately I have not been able to find any video of his speech ... but he clearly was there:

And I did manage to track down this email announcement from Generals International announcing the conference - note especially the militant language and central role that spiritual warfare was to play in the event:

Mike and I would like to invite you to gather together with us and intercessors from across the world to raise up a prayer army to both awaken and reform this nation.

One does not have to be prophetic to realize that we are at one of the most serious junctures of history our nation has ever known. Some are even suggesting that the United States as it stands is in the balance. Critical times require us as intercessors and believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to rally for troop training. We need a new generation of Generals to arise and war for the soul of our nation!

With this in mind, we know that we cannot pray the way we have in the past season. We need new prayers for a new day. Every army has to come aside for training and equipping. They need to learn how to work with spiritual intelligence and use their weapons of warfare.

We have often said that if we want to see what we have never seen, we have to do what we have never done. This also means that if we want to see this nation not lose her destiny, then we are going to have to fight to ensure that we become the city set on a hill our forebearers fought for!

With this passion in our hearts, we are calling you to come and prepare for battle in what we are calling Convergence ‘09: Raise Up An Army! We have brought together one of the finest teams of equippers we could find to help us mobilize to change the nation, including David Barton, Dutch Sheets, Lance Wallnau, Chuck Pierce, Harry Jackson, Jim Garlow, Cheryl Sacks, Jim Hennesy, Klaus Kuehn, Mike Jacobs and Cindy Jacobs.

Again, I have been uable to find any of the video from the conference, but I did find these "action shots" of Jacobs performing some sort of faith healing on stage:

Now, I will admit that I have been following Barton's work closely for quite some time now and have never heard him talk about Dominionism or the Seven Mountains Mandate.  But I also had no idea that he associated with Dominionists like Jacobs and company either. 

Barton is currently traveling the East Coast with Jim Garlow on their Next Great Awakening Tour and Garlow clearly has deep ties to Jacobs and Engle and Seven Mountains theology.

As I have said, there is a danger in playing "six degrees" with some of these connections ... but it is also completely fair to point out these connections, especially since they seem to be playing a bigger and bigger role within the "mainstream" of the Religious Right as a movement.

Rep. Bachmann Signs on to Fringe Fest

Last year, we wrote a series of posts about the How To Take Back America Conference which was hosted by Janet Porter and Phyllis Schlafly and several other Religious Right groups and featured as speakers everyone from Mike Huckabee to Michele Bachmann to Trent Franks.

This year, the event has been taken over by Joseph Farah and WorldNetDaily and seems to have lost most of its ties to the Religious Right, which is why we had not really mentioned it until now. 

The speaker's list contained just the sort of fringe right-wing activists you'd expect from a WND-organized conference: Birthers like Alan Keyes and Jerome Corsi, fake prostitutes like Hannah Giles, rabidly anti-gay critics like Matt Barber, impeachment advocates like Floyd Brown, and all around kooks like Victoria Jackson.

But recently, Farah announced a few new big-name attendees, including Ann Coulter and now Rep. Michele Bachmann:

Rep. Michele Bachmann, the red-hot rising star of the Republican Party, has joined an all-star lineup of speakers, debaters and presenters, including Ann Coulter, Alan Keyes, Victoria Jackson, Hannah Giles, Joseph Farah and Jerome Corsi, at WND's "Taking America Back" national conference in Miami Sept. 16-18.

"Michele Bachmann is one of the leaders in calling for a repeal of Obamacare," said Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND. "She's a rock star, a principled, liberty-loving woman of conviction. It will be a treat to see her and hear her and interact with her in Miami."

Other speakers include Gary North, son-in-law of Christian Reconstructionist guru R.J. Rushdoony and an open Reconstructionist himself:

While many Christians believe that biblical law is a guide to morality and public ethics, when interpreted in faith, Reconstructionism is unique in advocating that civil law should be derived from and limited by biblical law. For example, they support the recriminalization of acts of abortion and homosexuality, but also oppose confiscatory taxation, conscription, and most aspects of the welfare state. Protection of property and life needs grounding in biblical law, according to Reconstructionism, or the state set free from the restraint of God's law will take what it wishes at a whim. Accordingly, Reconstructionists advocate biblically derived measures of restitution, a definite limit upon the powers of taxation, and a gold standard or equivalent fixed unit for currency.

Another Reconstructionist also scheduled to speak is Gary DeMar of American Vision, whose mission is to see "an America that recognizes the sovereignty of God over all of life, where Christians apply a Biblical worldview to every facet of society. This future America will be again a 'city on a hill' drawing all nations to the Lord Jesus Christ and teaching them to subdue the earth for the advancement of His Kingdom."

So that is whom Bachmann has signed on with - a bunch of Birthers, fake prostitutes, anti-gay militants, rhetorical bomb-throwers, and Christian Reconstructionists.

PS: Interestingly, DeMar's American Vision is also hosting its own "Sovereignty and Dominion" Worldview Super Conference next month that includes Liberty University Law School among its sponsors:

Senate Republicans Tap Holy Warrior as Witness Against Kagan

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee released the list of witnesses who will testify during Elena Kagan's confirmation hearing next week - here is the list of "Minority Witnesses" who will oppose her confirmation:

Most of the witness are to be expected, but some -like Tony Perkins and Charmaine Yoest - are rather surprising.

And then there is Jerry Boykin.  Really? That guy is completely off the rails.

He's the one who was forced to retire after declaring that we were engaged in a spiritual war with Islam that "will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus," saying that knows we will eventually win because our God is bigger than theirs.

Since then, Boykin has become a fixture on the fringe right-wing circuit, teaming up with the likes of  "Christocrat" Rick Scarborough and Dominionist Janet Porter and even sharing the stage with professional anti-gay activists like Peter LaBarbera.

In fact, Boykin is also on the Board of Rick Joyner's Oak Initiative which I wrote about just earlier today, along with Porter, Lou Sheldon, and Cindy Jacobs.

This is who Senate Republican want to bring it in testify against Kagan?  The mind reels.

The Religious Right and Six Degrees of Dominionism

One of the things I quickly discovered when I started reading up on the whole Dominionism and New Apostolic Reformation movements was just how quickly you could slide into "Six Degrees of Separation" talk when covering those involved in these movements. 

Obviously, not every person who shares a stage with someone like Cindy Jacobs or Lou Engle shares their views, though it is harder for organizers who include activists of this type in their events to make such arguments.

That is what got Janet Porter in trouble and that is why the Freedom Federation, the right-wing supergroup that includes groups like the Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Eagle Forum, Liberty Counsel, Traditional Values Coalition, Wallbuilders and dozens of others, has to take responsibility for the decision to include groups like Generals International, Lou Engle and The Call, and Morning Star Ministries among the coalition members.

We haven't written much about Rick Joyner of Morning Star Ministries, but he runs a distinctly political organization called "The Oak Initiative," which is also a member of the Freedom Federation, and which has a mission to "find and help develop principled and effective Christian leaders who can mobilize and organize a cohesive force of activated Christians" and place them "on every level where government is found, from the most local to state and national levels."

The Oak Initiative has a distinctly Dominionist/7 Mountains agenda "to raise up effective leaders for all of the dominant areas of influence in the culture, including: government, business, education, arts and entertainment, family services, media, and the church."  And it also has a Board full of Religious Right activists including Janet Porter, Lou Sheldon, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, Cindy Jacobs, Lt.Gen. W.G. "Jerry" Boykin, and Marc Nuttle:

Mr. Nuttle has represented as legal counsel and political counsel, numerous United States House of Representative campaigns, United States Senate campaigns, gubernatorial campaigns, and state House and state Senate campaigns encompassing all states in the continental U.S. He served on Senator Dewey Bartlett’s staff and on Governor Henry Bellmon’s senatorial campaign staff. He has served as counselor to Senator Don Nickles and as advisor to Senator Jim Inhofe. Mr. Nuttle served as field counsel for the 1984 Reagan-Bush Reelect Campaign. In the early 1988 presidential election cycle, he was National Campaign Manager for Pat Robertson's presidential campaign. He was a senior advisor to George Bush's presidential campaigns in 1988 and 1992. From 1989 to 1991, he was Executive Director of the National Republican Congressional Committee in Washington, DC. He was a legal advisor in the Bush-Gore re-count effort in Florida in 2000.

Starting next week, Joyner's Morning Star Ministries is hosting an event called "The Great Awakening Conference" in South Carolina that includes, among others, Todd Bentley, the founder of Joel's Army:

Todd Bentley has a long night ahead of him, resurrecting the dead, healing the blind, and exploding cancerous tumors. Since April 3, the 32-year-old, heavily tattooed, body-pierced, shaved-head Canadian preacher has been leading a continuous "supernatural healing revival" in central Florida. To contain the 10,000-plus crowds flocking from around the globe, Bentley has rented baseball stadiums, arenas and airport hangars at a cost of up to $15,000 a day. Many in attendance are church pastors themselves who believe Bentley to be a prophet and don't bat an eye when he tells them he's seen King David and spoken with the Apostle Paul in heaven. "He was looking very Jewish," Bentley notes.

Tattooed across his sternum are military dog tags that read "Joel's Army." They're evidence of Bentley's generalship in a rapidly growing apocalyptic movement that's gone largely unnoticed by watchdogs of the theocratic right. According to Bentley and a handful of other "hyper-charismatic" preachers advancing the same agenda, Joel's Army is prophesied to become an Armageddon-ready military force of young people with a divine mandate to physically impose Christian "dominion" on non-believers.

Back in 2008, Bentley became a superstar hosting these massive rallies that often featured violent acts of "healing": 

He was known to boast about healing through violence. He had been videotaped telling stories about kicking a woman in the face, slamming a crippled woman's legs against the stage and knocking out a man's tooth. This was done, he claimed, on behalf of the Holy Spirit.

Around that time, Bentley was welcomed into C. Peter Wagner's sphere of "apostles" and "prophets" in a ceremony featuring fellow leaders, including Rick Joyner and Stacey Campbell:

Bentley's credibility suffered badly when it was announced that he was divorcing his wife, but Joyner has been steadfastly working on "restoring" Bentley and Bentley even relocated his ministry to operate directly out of Joyner's Morning Fellowship Church.

As I said earlier, there is a danger in playing "six degrees" with some of these connections ... but in this case it seems entire fair to wonder just how extensive the Dominionism/NAR influence is becoming within the contemporary Religious Right movement when groups like Morning Star, Oak Initiative, Generals International, and The Call are being openly welcomed into their political coalitions.

Generals International on Israel, The Oil Spill, And Demonic Vortexes

Yesterday, Cindy and Mike Jacobs of Generals International hosted a special webcast with Chuck Pierce on their website that focused primarily on explaining how the BP oil spill in the Gulf is due to President Obama's poor treatment of Israel. 

Jacobs explained that years ago Bob Jones prophesied that following the death of Oral Roberts, the Gulf Coast would be hit with an oil spill and two hurricanes.  Apparently that prophecy is now coming true and it is because God is angry with Obama's attitude toward Israel.  Chuck Piece agreed, but also noted that God had sent Hurricane Katrina because He was upset about the United States' treatment of Israel and He intended Katrina to be a "purifying wind," but the US failed to get the message "so now look at the gunk that's coming up on top of us":  

I should also point out that both Cindy Jacobs and Chuck Pierce sponsored and participated in Janet Porter's May Day 2010 prayer rally.

Frankly, I have no idea what they are talking about in that above clip, but apparently the idea that the BP oil spill is God's punishment for our failure to properly support Israel is becoming an increasingly accepted explanation.

But, it turned out, the real purpose of the webcast was for Cindy and Mike Jacobs to ask for money.  Generals International has been having financial trouble lately but had recently been offered a $15,000 matching grant and desperately needs donors to give money so that they can take full advantage of it.  The only problem is that GI has been under attack from four vortexes of demons which have been preventing the financial resources they need from getting through to them:

Cindy Jacobs went on to recount a recent instance in which God knocked her out cold while she was on stage preaching so that he could give her a vision of armies to angels descending to earth on horseback, but I didn't record that because she said they would be putting the footage up on their website soon and I didn't want to ruin the surprise.  

Have I mentioned that Generals International is not some fringe group, but is actually a member of the Freedom Federation, the right-wing super-coalition that includes the Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Eagle Forum, Liberty Counsel, Traditional Values Coalition, Wallbuilders and dozens of others? 

She Might Not Have A Radio Show, But She Has A Blog

A few weeks back, Janet Porter asked her supporters what would cause them to visit her Faith 2 Action website more frequently and among the top responses was "regular updates or blog postings by Janet."

Of course, that choice only received 8 votes, but since only 44 votes were cast in total, that was enough to put it among the leading suggestions. 

As such, Porter has responded by launching a new blog and using her very first post to announce that while her radio program is off the air indefinitely, she'll be contributing daily commentaries to American Family Association Radio, and still trying to defend her May Day prayer rally (which cost her her own radio program in the fist place) by claiming attendance was "in the thousands" with "viewership in the millions":  

Let me start by thanking all those who have prayed for and supported Faith2Action. You have helped make possible many of the things we have done together over the years, including the Presidential debate in 2007, the How to Take Back America conference last fall, and the Israel Friendship Project this spring, in which 30,000 yellow roses were sent to encourage Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the people of Israel.

Thanks also to all those who have contributed through your time, prayer, and financial support to May Day. God was honored that day. We were blessed with a beautiful, warm day, safety in travel, and no major technical or security problems. All of these things were answers to prayer. There were also scores of people (that we know about) who humbly prayed for Jesus to become their Savior and Lord that day. Praise God! The overall attendance was in the thousands, and viewership in the millions, but whether it was enough to withhold God’s judgment and give our nation another chance remains to be seen. We obeyed God and stood in the gap, the results are up to Him.

While we are no longer airing our daily radio program, the good news is that the 60-second daily Faith2Action commentaries will be back up and running this month, thanks to our partners at the American Family Association. They have agreed to produce and air them on their American Family Radio (AFR) network at 1:15 p.m. Eastern (12:15 p.m. Central), along with the Bott Radio Network, and others.

We are also in pre-production of “True 2 Life the Movie.” It’s a true romantic comedy that includes my work in Ohio to pass the nation’s first ban on partial-birth abortion. You’ll hear more about that in upcoming entries!

Porter's claim that thousands attended is laughable, since Truth Wins Out's Wayne Besen was there and he estimated the crowd at less than 300.

Janet Porter Dropped From Worldview Radio Because Of Her Ties To "Whacked Out Folks"

I've written several posts already about the fact that Janet Porter had her radio program dropped by VCY America following her May Day 2010 prayer rally due to the Dominionist underpinnings of the event. 

That move has all but closed down Porter's Faith 2 Action organization and so Porter has spent a lot of her energy lately attacking Discernment Ministries as being responsible for getting her fired. 

But, as it turns out, it was not just VCY that dropped Porter's radio program - Worldview Weekend also terminated its relationship with her over her May Day prayer rally.

On May 5, Brannon Howse, who has been a long-time support of Porter's and even regularly hosted her F2A radio program in her absence, announced that Worldview Radio had parted ways with her and would no longer be carrying her program:

We, on our radio network, our on-line radio network at WorldviewWeekend.com last Thursday pulled a program, Faith 2 Action which was the radio program, or is the radio program, of Janet Folger. I''ve sat in for Janet a few times when should we be unable to host her show and I've been a guest on her show many times - in fact we had her speak at our Worldview Weekend several years ago the criminalization of Christianity, a very good book she wrote on that topic.

But in the last few months, I've become concerned as, and in particular the last week weeks, I've become concerned as I think we are parting company in the important area of theology and doctrine. So we had to pull the program.

A lot of this came to light after the May Day event that took place in Washington DC

Those were some of the groups, I believe, that were represented at the May Day event - some folks who believe in Dominion theory, Kingdom theology and those who believe in extra-Biblical revelations. So, for that reason, I could not take part and the more I saw on the internet with some of the folks, the more I felt we needed to separate ourselves from that, particularly because it was confusing the public.

So we alerted the staff at F2A that we were not going to carry their broadcast any longer on our on-line radio network. And that's just the stance we've chosen to take. I believe it's great to call a nation to true Biblical repentance but I'm afraid that some, for lack of a better word, some really kind of whacked out folks, crept into the May Day event, and I did hear some stories after the event of some things that really concerned some folks who were there themselves with the Dominion theory theology people.

You can listen to Howse's extended explanation of the decision here, but the gist of it is that Worldview was not comfortable with Porter's embrace of those we believe in extra-Biblical revelation - people like Cindy Jacobs and Dutch Sheets and Lou Engle who consider themselves Prophets and Apostles that receive powers and visions from God.  Howse also explained that while he does not necessarily oppose Dominion Theology or those who advocate it, he does not personally support it or believe in it.  For those reasons, Howse and Worldview Weekend not only declined to endorse Porter's May Day rally but decided that cut ties with her completely.

I wonder why Porter isn't attacking Howse and Worldview Weekend as a bunch of "cultural Nazis" who are siding with the ACLU and throwing rocks from the sidelines of the culture war at those, like Porter, who are trying to save America from its descent into communism.

The Dominionist Agenda Driving Gingrich's New Organization

I've been writing a lot about the steadily increasing influence that 7 Mountains/Dominion theology has been having on the Religious Right recently, though mostly as it has relates to Janet Porter.

But it is important to note that Porter is not alone in embracing this theology and partnering with activists who espouse it.  For instance, Lou Engle played a central role in last year's Family Research Council "prayercast" against health care reform and has developed ties to many other Religious Right leaders as well. Others, like Cindy Jacobs of Generals International, have likewise been making similar connections and several of these groups have also become members of the right-wing supergroup known as the Freedom Federation. 

And even Newt Gingrich is cultivating his own ties to 7 Mountains advocates.  Last year, Gingrich appeared alongside Engle at a "Rediscovering God In America" conference where Engle laid hands upon Gingrich and prayed for God's protection for him. Not long thereafter, Gingrich formed a group called Renewing American Leadership and tapped Engle-associate and Prop 8 leader Jim Garlow to serve as Chairman of the organization.

While looking on the Renewing American Leadership website today, I found a link to a video from April of Garlow sitting down with James Robison (who gave Mike Huckabee his start) to voice their concerns about the state of this nation under President Obama and the Democrats. 

During the conversation Garlow explained how the 7 Mountain/Dominionist theology is being implemented on various levels: first by identifying leaders at the "top" of these mountains and creating support networks for them; then by identifying Godly young people and putting them in contact with these leaders in an effort to turn them into future leaders who will "live out Jesus' life in influencing those seven mountains"; and finally by targeting leaders "who are not standing for the truth of Christ" and launching armies of prayer warriors against them so that God will either change their hearts or remove them from office:

It is remarkable to watch as Janet Porter continues to lash out at Discernment Ministries and its blog Herescope ever since their work exposing her increasing ties to Dominion Theology lead VCY America to sever its ties with Porter and drop her radio program following her Dominion-focused prayer rally at the Lincoln Memorial on May Day.

Last week, Porter used her WorldNetDaily column to launch an attack on Discernment, calling them "cultural Nazis" who are siding with the ACLU and throwing rocks from the sidelines at those, like Porter, who are trying to save America from its descent into communism.

Discernment's Sarah Leslie responded by pointing out that it was not criticizing political organizing and activism - Leslie was head of Iowa Right to Life in the 1980s, after all - but rather Dominion Theology and the effort by people like Porter, Cindy Jacobs, Dutch Sheets, and Lou Engle, to take over every aspect of American life in order to bring about the return of Jesus Christ.

But Porter absolutely refuses to recognize this obvious distinction and instead continues to lash out at Discernment, lying about what caused her to lose her radio program, and likening them to Christians who sat by while Nazis murdered millions of Jews.

Last week Porter appeared on a program with host Craig Roberts where she spread her tale of victimization and attacked Discernment Ministries for the better part of an hour.  Most of the time was spent with Porter claiming that Discernment Ministries is just a bunch of Christians who are biding their time awaiting the Rapture by attacking bold Christians like Porter who are carrying out God's command to spread His word to all.   Throughout the interview, Porter refused to admit that she has adopted Dominion Theology and that it was this development that got her canned from VCY - in fact, Porter doesn't even mention that she lost her radio program at all.

In the audio clip below, you can hear Porter explain the motivation behind her May Day prayer targets  - which were entirely based on 7 Mountains Dominionist theology though Porter refuses to admit that that is the case - while saying that it is groups like Discernment who are attacking "heroes of the faith" and will ultimately lead all Christians to find themselves locked up in prison:

This is the sort of language that Porter normally reserves for Democrats and liberals, so it is interesting to see her deploy it against her fellow Christians ... it is obviously her standard response to any criticism she receives. 

Discernment's Sarah Leslie appeared on a program with Derek Gilbert yesterday to refute Porter's outrageous accusations and misrepresentations, but I highly doubt that is going to stop Porter from spreading them because, frankly, Porter's denial about this entire saga is truly remarkable.

After all, why does Porter keep attacking Discernment Ministries when it was VCY America that made the decision to drop her program? It wasn't Discernment that cut ties with her, it was VCY, so why isn't she attacking VCY as a bunch of quisling Christians who don't care about saving America from destruction? 

Presumably because a) she's hoping to somehow get her radio program back and b) that sort of argument would be absurd considering that VCY continues to carry programs by several other Religious Right groups, including Eagle Forum, Liberty Counsel, Family Research Council, and the Susan B. Anthony List.  

There was obviously something unique about Porter that caused VCY to drop her ... and that was her ties to Dominionist Theology.

But Porter steadfastly refuses to admit it and has decided, instead of going after VCY for dropping her, to set out on a crusade against Discernment Ministries for having the gall to expose her Dominionist ties.
