Gingrich To Kick Off Awakening 2011 Via Invitation-Only Luncheon With Birther King Joseph Farah

The Freedom Federation's "Awakening 2011" conference is being held next week at Liberty University and I think nothing better sums up what we can be expected from the event than the fact that it kicks-off with a speech from Lila Rose followed by an invitation-only luncheon with Newt Gingrich and Birther king Joseph Farah:

In addition to Rep. Tom Price and Texas Senate hopeful Ted Cruz, the event features a panoply of right-wing participants and speakers including Matt Barber, Frank Gaffney, Harry Jackson, Robert Knight, Andrea Lafferty, Mat Staver, Rick Scarborough, Ryan Sorba, Janet Porter, and Penny Nance.

And while Cindy Jacobs is not listed on the schedule even though she participated in last year's conference, her fellow prophet Rick Joyner is:

  • Confronting the Culture: Engaging People of Faith
    • Rev. Rick Scarborough (Moderator)
    • David Brog
    • Rev. Rick Joyner
    • Cynthia Dunbar, Esq.
It is especially timely that Joyner will be discussing how to engage people of faith given that he is convinced that the earthquake in Japan is a sign that demonic Nazism is about to take over America after God destroys California.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Rep. Michele Bachmann hails Iowa for standing up to the "black-robed masters" in removed three judges from the state Supreme Court.
  • Ken Blackwell for Senate?
  • CWA's Wendy Wright testified on behalf of Janet Porter's "Heartbeat Bill" yesterday.
  • Honestly, how is Sheriff Joe Arpaio still in office?
  • Is Sean Hannity embracing Birtherism?
  • When Grover Norquist talks taxes, Republican fall all over themselves to do his bidding.  When he talks criminal justice reform, they couldn't care less.
  • Finally, FRC asks God to help them defund Planned Parenthood: "May God grant our House leaders courage and conviction to defend Life at any cost. May He stir consciences in the Senate and bring an unexpected miracle. May pro-abortion liberals fail in their effort to deceive America, and if a 'shutdown' occurs, may they get the blame."

Right Wing Leftovers

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Hey, guess what? Tim Pawlenty is running for president.
  • Police wanted to charge many of those involved in helping Rifqa Bary run away with crimes, but prosecutors have refused to do so.
  • Herman Cain says the race card has expired.  Good to know.
  • Wow, Donald Trump is just a joke.
  • Janet Porter is hosting a "Heartbeat Bill Summit" on April 4.
  • Speaking of Porter, she has this to say about the earthquake in Japan: "Another type of darkness in Japan should be of great concern to us. That’s the spiritual darkness that covers this island nation."
  • The first confirmed speaker for Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Summit is ... Dick Morris.  Wow, what a coup!
  • Quote of the day from Bryan Fischer: "We’re going to get the worst of both worlds with the admission of open homosexuals into the ranks: virile straights aren’t going to sign up, and fewer homosexuals will since they lost their get-out-of-jail free card when DADT was repealed. They can’t try it and decide they don’t like it any more. We’re going to be left with a weakened, effeminate, dumbed-down military."
  • Finally, Karen Santorum shared parenting advice with James Dobson on his radio program today and warned that the Devil tries to make stay-at-home moms second-guess their decision:

Porter Brings In Biblical Economist To Testify For Heartbeat Bill

Even though her ties to Cindy Jacobs and 7 Mountains Dominionism cost Janet Porter her radio program and essentially shut down her political activism for almost a year, it has become pretty clear that she has no intention of backing away from it.  In fact, she not only got even more deeply involved in it during her time away, but continues to associate with the movement today.

And now it looks like Porter is no longer simply associating with the Dominionists who inhabit this sphere of prophetic activism, but is actually bringing them in to her more "mainstream" political activism.

Last week, Porter scheduled a fetus to "testify" before the Ohio Legislature in support of her "Heartbeat Bill" and this week another hearing was held where Porter brought in not only an abortion survivor to testify but also Jerry Tuma, who testified that abortion is responsible for our various economic problems:

Tuma is not a particularly well-known figure ... but he the United States Reformation Prayer Network's "National Apostolic Coordinator for the business/economic mountain" and is Cindy Jacobs' personal friend and favorite Biblical economist:

300: Religious Right Forming It Own Spartan Army

For months now, we have been chronicling how self-described prophets and apostles have been merging 7 Mountains/Dominionism with "mainstream" Religious Right activism ... and increasingly the man at the center of this appears to be the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins.

Perkins was among the first to embrace Lou Engle and transform him into a Religious Right leader and now he seems to be doing the same with Rick Joyner of The Oak Initiative.

Just today we noted that Joyner, Jerry Boykin, and Janet Porter were gathering for a conference next month and as I was looking for more information about that, I stumbled across this video of Perkins, Joyner, Boykin and Frank Turek discussing the importance of Christians getting deeply involved in politics.

Perkins explains the absolute necessity of getting Christians into all levels of government while Boykin compared Christians today to the Spartan army and quoted King Leonidas by declaring "molon labe" ["come and get them"] when he and his army were told to lay down their weapons.

Likewise, Boykin declared "molon labe," stating that he will not be silenced and challenged those in Washington who are out to take his liberties, rob his grandchildren, and destroy America to just try to take them from him.

Finally, Joyner announced that Christians have more than enough people to take control, but they need to bind together and, as such, would soon be unveiling coalition called "300":

Porter, Boykin, Joyner Team Up for "Oak Initiative Summit"

A week after the Freedom Federation hosts its Awakening 2011 conference at Liberty University, one of its more fringe members - The Oak Initiative - will be hosting its own conference in South Carolina featuring Rick Joyner, Jerry Boykin, and Janet Porter:

To give you a sense of just what type of ultra-right-wing lunacy attendees can expect at this conference, here is Boykin warning that President Obama is attempting to create an army of Brownshirts loyal only to him though the passage of Health Care Reform, Porter praying for God to give Christians complete control over every level of government, and Joyner explaining how governmental leaders need to start seeking counsel from the "prophetic voices" like himself, because God speaks to him in dreams:

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Mike Huckabee is holding a Facebook fundraiser seeking donations from those who "support traditional marriage and disagree with Pres. Obama's decision to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act."
  • Rick Santorum wants to know why he and Newt Gingrich were suspended from Fox but Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin were not.  That is a good question.
  • Maggie Gallagher reacts to the Supreme Court's Westboro Baptist decision by declaring that "the Constitution is not a suicide pact." I have no idea what she is talking about.
  • Ed Meese will receive the 2011 Vision and Leadership Award at the Values Voter Summit.
  • Abby Johnson is challenging Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards to a public debate. I challenge Johnson to come clean about the real reason for her departure from the organization.
  • Bryan Fischer longs for the good old days when blasphemy was illegal.
  • Finally, here is Janet Porter-approved footage of her "Heartbeat Bill" stunt:

Porter: My Heartbeat Bill Is Not Unconstitutional, Roe v Wade Is!

Yesterday we mentioned that Janet Porter had brought two fetuses to "testify" before an Ohio committee on behalf of her "Heartbeat Bill," and last night Alan Colmes had Porter on his radio program to give her a chance to explain just what she hoped to accomplish with this stunt.

Colmes tried to get Porter to admit that her goal is, ultimately, to outlaw abortion entirely but she kept dancing around the issue, insisting instead that she is really just embracing science and technology and that it is not her legislation that is unconstitutional, but rather Roe v. Wade that is unconstitutional.  She also reported that legislators in Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arizona are "lining up" to introduce their own versions of her "Heartbeat Bill."

Oh, and a big "thank you" to Alan for the shout out to RightWingWatch - we love him too:

Porter's Fetus Stunt Falls Flat

Yesterday, we noted that Janet Porter of Faith2Action had announced that Ohio's House Health Committee would hold a hearing on her "Heartbeat Bill" which "will feature proponent testimony from the youngest to ever come before the committee--a nine-week old unborn baby."

Today, Porter's stunt was put into action and turned out to be a bust, as the heartbeat of 9-week old fetus was pretty much undetectable:

State lawmakers in Ohio have seen ultrasound images of two fetuses as proponents of what would be the most stringent abortion law in the nation pushed their proposal.

The bill would ban abortions after the first heartbeat can be medically detected.

Two young mothers were given ultrasounds in a packed room at the Statehouse as part of a House committee meeting Wednesday. The heartbeat of a fetus at 15 weeks gestation was easily detected. The heartbeat in a fetus of nine weeks gestation was difficult to detect.

UPDATE: WBNS-10TV has footage from inside the hearing room as the ultrasounds were performed:

Huckabee: I Answer To Janet Porter

In honor of the news that Faith2Action's Janet Porter had scheduled a fetus to "testify" on behalf of her "Heartbeat Bill" before the Ohio Legislature, we went back and dug up some unused footage from 2009 when Mike Huckabee spoke at the How To Take Back America Conference that Porter co-organized with Phyllis Schlafly and variety of Religious Right groups like the American Family Association, WorldNetDaily, Vision America, and Liberty Counsel.

At the event, Huckabee was introduced by Porter herself and upon taking to the microphone, quipped that there are two Janets to whom he obediently answers - his wife and Janet Porter:

Porter Schedules Fetus To Testify in Favor of Heartbeat Bill

When Janet Porter is involved in something, you know it is just a matter of time before it goes completely off the rails.

It happened with her 2007 Values Voter Debate where a choir sang "Why Should God Bless America? " while Religious Right leaders asked questions to empty podiums representing the Republican candidates who skipped the event.

And it happened again with her May Day prayer rally at the Lincoln Memorial which left her facing $70,000 in expenses and cost her her daily radio show.

And so it was only a matter of time before her already bizarre "Heartbeat Bill" activism in Ohio took a turn toward the surreal, with Porter announcing plans to have a fetus "testify" in favor of the legislation:

A fetus has been scheduled as a legislative witness in Ohio on a unique bill that proposes outlawing abortions after the first heartbeat can be medically detected.

Faith2Action, the anti-abortion group that has targeted Ohio to pilot the measure, called the in-utero witness the youngest to ever come before the House Health Committee at 9 weeks old.

Faith2Action president Janet Folger Porter said the intent is to show lawmakers who will be affected by the bill, which abortion rights groups oppose. Ohio Right to Life has not endorsed the measure.

An aide to committee Chairman Lynn Wachtmann said a pregnant woman will be brought before the committee and an ultrasound image of her uterus will be projected onto a screen. The heartbeat of the fetus will be visible in color.

Just allow me to remind everyone that Porter served as the co-chair of Mike Huckabee's Faith and Family Values Coalition when he ran for president.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • FRC is urging activists to contact the Members of Congress and get them to "intervene in the ongoing litigation challenging DOMA."
  • Bryan Fischer says the DOMA decision is "inexcusable and even impeachable" and proof that Obama is "no patriot and is a clear and present danger to his own country."
  • But apparently, the fact that the Obama administration will not defend DOMA is good news for the Religious Right because "DOMA will now get a much better defense."
  • Roy Moore has been traveling to Iowa a lot lately, but unfortunately he's not running for president.
  • Jesse Lee Peterson flips out over news that churches are allowing Muslims to use their buildings.
  • Finally, Janet Porter's "Heartbeat Bill" has now been officially introduced in Ohio.

Boykin: "Everywhere I Go" People Ask "When Do We Take Up Arms" Against Obama

Last week, Glenn Beck invited Jerry Boykin onto his program to give his "expert" opinion on the uprising in Egypt and he is also listed among the invited speakers to the next Values Voter Summit:

So now might be a good time to repost this video he produced for Rick Joyner's Morningstar Ministries in which explained that President Obama is a Marxist who intends to create an army of Brownshirts loyal only to him though Health Care Reform legislation:

When he is not speaking to Beck or hobnobbing with Republican leaders at the Values Voter Summit, Boykin is working hand-in-hand with Joyner, preaching at this services, and sitting on the board of his Oak Initiative along with the likes of Janet Porter, Lou Sheldon, and Cindy Jacobs.

Joyner is a self-described prophet who is worried that President Obama might just be a treasonous Muslim and who roots his activism in dreams and visions about the imminent destruction of America:

For his part, Boykin delivers sermons to Joyner's followers with titles like "The Church Must Rise Up" in which he reports that everywhere he goes, people come up and ask him "when do we take up arms" against the Obama administration, which Boykin opposes because we are really involved in a spiritual battle:

Porter's "Heartbeat Bill" Generates Interest In Other States

As we have noted several times in recent weeks, Faith 2 Action's Janet Porter has recently resurfaced in her native Ohio and is leading the effort to pass anti-choice legislation called "The Heartbeat Bill."

As part of this push, Porter has organized effort to send red, heart-shaped balloons to state legislators and today they are going to be delivered:

Thousands of shiny red heart-shaped balloons will be delivered to legislators today thanking (nearly half the House members who are co-sponsors) and encouraging the others to "Have a Heart! Support the Heartbeat Bill!" The Heartbeat Bill, which will be introduced this week, will legally protect all human beings in the state whose heartbeat can be heard.

...

Thousands of balloons, sent by residents from all over the state of Ohio and nation, will be delivered today to the 99 state representatives at the Vern Riffe State Office Tower.

"The Heartbeat Bill insures that if a heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected," states Janet (Folger) Porter, the president of Faith2Action and coordinator of bill-related efforts through www.HeartBeatBill.com. "You can help pass what will be the nation's most protective legislation when you go to www.HeartBeatBill.com," added Porter. "We're not going to wait any longer because the time to protect the babies is now."

Last week Porter and other activists, including Phll Burress of Citizens for Community Values, gathered for a press conference in a room filled with these balloons during which Porter reported that she is already getting calls from legislators in Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, and Arizona who are interested in introducing similar bills in their own states:

This is quite a change from Porter's recent activism wtih Cindy Jacobs praying that God will give Christians control over the media and every level of government:

Porter's Ohio Effort Being Undercut By Her Former Employer

As we have noted in the past, the groups pushing the anti-choice "personhood" amendments all around the country have tended to operate on their own because other established anti-choice groups have refused to support the efforts because a) they are unlikely to pass and b) they are unlikely to survive court challenges.

And despite the fact that the whenever "personhood" has made it onto the ballot, it has failed miserably, organizers continue to press the issue, and are even picking up support for an effort in Mississippi from the American Family Association while Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker is introducing national "personhood" legislation in Congress.

And in Ohio, Janet Porter has resurfaced with her own "personhood"-like legislation called "The Heartbeat Bill." The legislation would ban abortions once a heartbeat is detected and, just like with the various "personhood" efforts, Porter's former colleagues at Ohio Right to Life are refusing to support her measure because it won't stand up in court:

[T]he so-called “Heartbeat Bill” legislation, which would ban abortion as early as 18 to 24 days after conception, isn’t supported by the Ohio Right to Life Society. That organization is backing a number of other anti-abortion bills, including a ban on late-term abortions after 20 weeks except when necessary to prevent the death of the mother or the irreversible impairment of a major body function.

Mike Gonidakis, the group’s executive director, said the heartbeat legislation would not survive a court challenge. “Despite noble aspirations, there is no scenario under which the heartbeat legislation will be upheld by any court and therefore no lives will be saved by passage of this bill,” Gonidakis said in an e-mail. “Our goal is to protect the lives we can now and that is why we introduced the late-term ban.”

As with his newsletters, Ron Paul will probably deny writing the “controversial” parts of his own books. David Barton’s deputy at WallBuilders, Rick Green, has endorsed Rick Perry while admitting that his debate appearances were “literally painful to watch” and that he “nearly wept for the man.” Green’s decision represents another defection for the Bachmann camp, as Green campaigned for her at the Iowa Straw Poll. Meanwhile, more Iowa pastors are calling on Michele Bachmann to drop out of the race. Matt Romney goes... MORE >

A member of Nebraska’s unicameral legislature is introducing two of the most radical anti-choice bills in the country, a personhood measure to give legal status to zygotes and a ‘heartbeat law’ that would also effectively ban abortion. Like in Ohio, more established anti-choice groups are wary of passing such clearly unconstitutional laws and are instead encouraging the legislature to defund Planned Parenthood. The Omaha World Herald reports that State Sen. Mark Christensen is proposing both measures, and that the “heartbeat bill is expected to be introduced in the... MORE >

As Brian noted last week, Janet Porter's "Heartbeat Bill" is wreaking havoc on the anti-choice movement in Ohio and now appears stalled as attempts to make last-minute changes threw a wrench into efforts to pass it this year. And so Porter, taking a page out of the spiritual warfare handbook, has issued an urgent message to supporters, asking them to fast and pray for three days that God will resurrect her legislation and get it passed: It's either true or it isn't.
