Paranoia-Rama: God Sending Wrath Upon America For Gay Marriage, Abortion Rights

Even though God stopped President Obama from nuking Charleston, according to one Colorado lawmaker, God permitted a brutal attack on a Colorado woman as punishment for abortion rights. Even worse, other conservative activists believe that God is preparing to destroy America if the Supreme Court approves of gay marriage.

Gordon Klingenschmitt Plays The Victim While The Actual Victim Rejects His Donation

As Brian noted yesterday, Republican Colorado state representative Gordon Klingenschmitt finds himself at the center of a controversy stemming from a clip that we posted earlier this week from one of his recent "Pray In Jesus Name" programs in which he proclaimed that a brutal attack upon a pregnant woman in his state was part of "the curse of God upon America" for legal abortion.

Klingenschmitt is refusing to back down from his comment, insisting that he is being criticized for simply quoting the Bible and opposing evil: "I'm against evil and I'm in favor of good."

He added that he was speaking as a preacher when he made those comments and not an elected representative and so "if other people are offended by the Bible, that's okay, they don't have to agree with me or come to my church or watch my TV show. It's a free country."

Klingenschmitt was interviewed on KOA News Radio 850 in Denver this morning about his comments, where he absurdly stated that "if you were offended because I quoted the bible in church, I ask you to forgive me but I will not apologize for quoting the Bible in church."

Repeatedly insisting that the things that he says on his television program should not reflect of his role as a legislator, Klingenschmitt went on a claim that his religious freedom is somehow being violated by all of the criticism that he is receiving.

"If the government is now going to step into my church on Sunday and say 'oh, you're not allowed to do that because you are an elected official," he said, "I would ask people to take a step back and think about how the government should be protecting your freedom of worship on Sunday and maybe cut me a little slack":

At one point during the interview, Klingenschmitt said that it "was a demonic spirit" that was behind this brutal attack on Michelle Wilkins and bragged that his charity had donated a thousand dollars to a GoFundMe effort set up to help her.

As it turns out, the Wilkins family has rejected Klingenschmitt's donation:

Just wanted everyone to know:

Payment Refunded.

A refund of $1,000.00 has been issued for a payment made by Gordon Klingenschmitt for "Michelle Wilkins Fund (Longmont CO)". The money has been removed from your account: "Michelle Wilkins Trust Fund (Longmont CO)".

Gordon Klingenschmitt Sparks Outrage After Linking God To Attack On Pregnant Woman

Who could have predicted that Gordon Klingenschmitt wouldn’t exactly live up to his promise, following his election to the Colorado State House last year, that he would “tone down the rhetoric” after building a career out of making off-the-wall statements as a Religious Right activist.

Klingenschmitt has set off a firestorm in Colorado after he claimed that a brutal attack on a pregnant woman in the state, in which a baby died after being cut from the woman's womb, was the result of God’s “curse” on America for legalizing abortion.

His colleagues in the state legislature, including the lawmaker who used to represent Klingenschmitt’s district, called out the GOP lawmaker for his remark:

"His statement was outrageous," said Rep. Beth McCann of Denver. "Rep. Klingenschmidt is politicizing a terrible human tragedy. The statement was incredibly insensitive to a family that is been through an unimaginable horrific experience."

Rep. Polly Lawrence, R-Douglas County, said Thursday she was "appalled" at her colleague's remarks.

"Gordon does not speak for his caucus," said Lawrence, the House assistant minority leader.

[Former State Rep. Mark] Waller said he is concerned that Wilkins, who has been released from the hospital, will read Klingenschmitt's comments.

"It's just plain wrong to say something like that, this poor woman," he said. "This was a horrible tragedy."

Republicans were quick to distance themselves from a member of their own caucus:

"I think this statement is reprehensible and disrespectful," House Speaker Dickey Lee Hullinghorst, a Democrat, said in a statement . "Given the sensitive nature of the events, as well as respect for the victim and her family, I'm not going to comment any further."

Steve House, the new chairman of the Colorado GOP, was less critical in his statement.

"Gordon has the right to exercise his First Amendment protection of free speech," House said in a written statement. "Gordon does not speak on behalf of the Colorado Republican Party and to suggest otherwise would be inaccurate and dishonest."

Others at the state Capitol were left to wonder how Klingenschmitt thought he could make the remarks without public backlash.

"It's so disrespectful to the victims," said one political operative in the state capitol. "Does [Klingenschmitt] not think that the Internet works in the building?"

Klingenschmitt: Transgender People Are Driven By A Demonic 'Predatory Spirit Of Sexual Exploitation'

Like other Religious Right activists, Gordon Klingenschmitt is outraged that a Planet Fitness franchise in Michigan revoked the membership of a customer who wouldn't stop complaining after a transgender woman hung up her coat and purse in the women’s locker room and so he is now calling for a national boycott of the fitness chain.

On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program today, the Colorado Republican state legislator said that "there is a demonic spirit of lying" inside of transgender people, whom he said are "parading their parts" in front of small children because they are driven by "a predatory spirit of sexual exploitation."

Klingenschmitt then once again asserted that since the Bible says that transgender people are not allowed in church, they should likewise be banned from using public facilities, saying that "if they can't enter the assembly of the Lord, why should they be able to enter your women's locker room."

Klingenschmitt concluded by praying that children would be protected from "predators" like this and that millions of Americans would boycott Planet Fitness "until that corporation changes their policy":

Klingenschmitt: Brutal Attack Upon Pregnant Woman Is 'The Curse Of God Upon America'

Last week, a pregnant woman in Colorado was attacked by a stranger who stabbed her in the stomach and cut her baby out of her womb, and Republican state legislator Gordon Klingenschmitt is attributing the attack to God's curse upon America for the sin of legal abortion.

On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program today, Klingenschmitt discussed the story and tied it to a passage from Hosea in which God curses the people of Samaria for their rebellion by declaring that "their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open."

"I wonder if there is prophetic significance to America today in that scripture," he said. "This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb and part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open":

Gordon Klingenschmitt: Impeach Obama Over Gay Rights, Mythical Election Tampering

In an email to Pray In Jesus Name Project supporters on Saturday, televangelist and Colorado state legislator Gordon Klingenschmitt blasted the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s 2012 decision to cover discrimination against transgender people under laws that prevent discrimination on the basis of sex.

He berated the EEOC’s move as a sign that President Obama is becoming a dictator who committed an impeachable act.

The Dictator-in-Chief, President Obama, is once again using his phone and his pen to change laws without Congressional approval. This time he called Jacqueline A. Berrien, Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), to simply "reinterpret" the 1964 Civil Rights Act to protect homosexual status as if it were discrimination against "sex."

When dictators can change laws without Congress, simply by "reinterpreting" laws against federal courts rulings that held the opposite interpretation, we have truly become a lawless nation ruled by dictators. This is an impeachable offense.

In another email today, Klingenschmitt brought up the myth that the Obama administration spent federal funds “to try to defeat Netanyahu,” claiming that the “anti-Semitic” Obama "clearly wants Iran to get nuclear power, which they will use to destroy Israel.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has won re-election, and his main opponent has conceded, despite alleged misuse of American tax-dollars to try to defeat Netanyahu.

If the investigation confirms Obama and Kerry used our tax-dollars to fund an election to defeat Netanyahu, this is an impeachable offense. It's not only illegal, and theft, but anti-Semitic, intended to harm our closest ally in the middle east. Obama clearly wants Iran to get nuclear power, which they will use to destroy Israel. Thank God the people of Israel saw past Obama's corruption, and re-elected Bibi.

I agree with PM Netanyahu, and I disagree with John Kerry. Giving nuclear energy to Iran is not a roadblock to weapons, rather it paves the road to nuclear weapons in the hands of militant Islamists who vow to wipe Israel off the map of history.

Obama is so disliked in Israel now, that his campaign against Netanyahu will actually help Netanyahu gain votes. Israeli's are fed up with Obama's support of Iran, and tired of being bombed with rockets by Muslim terrorists. I predict the Israeli elections in March will move them further to the right. Netanyahu's real challenge comes from hawks to his right, not from Obama on his left.

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 3/12/15

  • Gordon Klingenschmitt's first term in the Colorado legislature appears to be going exactly as one would expect.
  • Frank Gaffney continues his crusade against supposed Islamist shill Grover Norquist.
  • Similarly, the right-wing campaign against "Muslim Brotherhood princess" Huma Abedin rolls on.
  • Erik Rush is not happy that President Obama was at the Selma anniversary event: "Obama profaned the anniversary of the 'Bloody Sunday' march in Selma with his very presence, because he is a liar and a fraud who has actually harmed race relations in America and under whom the lot of black Americans has become substantially worse."
  • Linda Harvey doesn't care what happens in terms of gay rights because "the Lord Jesus Christ has framed the parameters of our faith and no wicked deceit the lavender lobby devises will every change that."
  • Finally, Jerry Newcombe says that the Supreme Court should not rule in favor of marriage equality because "sexual anarchy leads to legal anarchy."

Klingenschmitt: Murder Of North Carolina Muslim Students Was An Anti-Christian Hate Crime

Last month, three young Muslims students were murdered in an apartment in North Carolina, in a crime allegedly stemming from a long-simmering dispute over parking. The man accused of committing the murders was reportedly an atheist who frequently posted anti-religious messages on his Facebook page.

Among the things he had posted on his Facebook page was an image asserting that despite their opposition to one another, "radical Christians" and "radical Muslims" actually hold similar ideological positions on a wide array of issues ... and because of that, Colorado state representative Gordon Klingenschmitt is convinced that these three Muslims were really killed "because they were like Christians."

Taking the Religious Right's persecution complex to its absurd conclusion, Klingenschmitt cited this particular Facebook post on his "Pray In Jesus Name" program today as proof that this "radical left-wing atheist who is going around killing people of faith ... killed these Muslims because they think like Christians":

Klingenschmitt: Florist 'Blessing' Gay Couple By Discriminating Against Them

Last week, Gordon Klingenschmitt declared that the owners of a Colorado bakery who refused to provide a wedding cake to a gay couple were really "blessing" the gay couple by letting them know that homosexuality is a sin. On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program today, the Colorado Republican state representative heaped similar praise upon a Washington florist who likewise refused to provide flowers to a gay wedding for supposedly also "blessing" the gay couple against whom she discriminated by trying to save them from Hell.

Calling the florist a prophetic "hero," Klingenschmitt said that while she is being persecuted for standing for the truth here on earth, she will receive a reward for her courage in Heaven for her effort to save this gay couple from damnation.

"There will be a day when, after they've lived their life of pleasure and sin and after they have manifested all kinds of demonic spirits ... that they will be held accountable before God," Klingenschmitt warned. "And some day when they're standing before God, God will ask them, 'Didn't you know this was wrong?' And they'll have to admit that, yes, this gentle Christian woman told us it was wrong":

Klingenschmitt: Gays Have 'A Demonic Spirit That Is Ruling In The Heart And Now They Have Lost Their Soul'

On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program yesterday, Gordon Klingenschmitt cited a recent AP poll that reportedly found that while a majority of Americans support marriage equality, they also believe that wedding-related businesses ought to be allowed to discriminate against gay couples on religious grounds. The fact that some people did not support such an exemption was proof to Klingenschmitt that there is "a demonic spirit of persecution at work," which is a sign of the End Times.

"They want to force Christians to participate in someone else's acts of sodomy," Klingenschmitt said. "And if they won't participate, then the Christians should be punished or fined or bankrupted or driven out of business.  I think that is not just anti-Christian discrimination, it is open season persecution."

"They're coming after us," he warned, "and, in the long run, this will result not only in fines but in jail time for some Christians, which is a prediction and sign that the End Times are really upon us. When the Antichrist rises up to persecute Christians and behead us and throw us in jail for our Christian faith, you don't think it's going to be over things like this? This is just the camel's nose in the tent."

Klingenschmitt then went on to cite Romans 1 as he declared that gays have "a demonic spirit that is ruling in their heart and now they have lost their soul":

Klingenschmitt: Anti-Gay Bakers Are Blessing The Gay Community By 'Refusing To Participate In Their Acts Of Sodomy'

On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program recently, Gordon Klingenschmitt was discussing the possibility that the owners of an Oregon bakery may have to pay significant fines after refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, when he praised the bakery owners for "being a blessing" to the entire gay community "by refusing to participate in their acts of sodomy."

After asserting that it is the goal of the government to bankrupt Christian business owners, Klingenschmitt declared that Aaron and Melissa Klein "are being persecuted for righteousness sake" and hailed them "for actually being a blessing to the homosexual community by speaking truth to them and refusing to participate in their acts of sodomy. They are defining right and wrong and saying, 'We are not going to endorse your sin because it is harmful to you in the homosexual community.'"

Klingenschmitt then went on to pray that Christians will not "manifest the demonic spirit that would endorse that sin" but will have "the freedom to not agree with the Devil":

Klingenschmitt: Requiring Government Officials To Recognize Gay Marriage Is 'The Yoke Of Slavery'

Shortly after a federal judge struck down North Carolina's ban on gay marriage last year, several magistrates resigned from their positions rather than perform same-sex weddings. Now, a state legislator has introduced a bill that would allow government officials to refuse to preside over such weddings or issue marriage licenses to gay couples based on "sincerely held religious objection" while retaining their jobs.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, not surprisingly, wholeheartedly supports this sort of legislation, saying on his "Pray In Jesus Name" program yesterday that requiring conservative Christians who work in government positions to follow the law when it comes to gay marriage is "the yoke of slavery."

As our colleague Peter Montgomery explained in a report just released yesterday, Religious Right activists are increasingly claiming that "religious liberty" ought to entitle them to engage in anti-gay discrimination, and that is exactly what Klingenschmitt is arguing.

As Klingenschmitt sees it, government workers should have the right to able to opt out of having to "participate in somebody else's sin" if they are a Christian, asserting that failure to grant such an exemption is a violation of the Constitution's ban on requiring a religious test to hold public office.

"We do pray against this demonic yoke of slavery," Klingenschmitt said, "which is being forced by some liberal judges upon the good people of North Carolina ... Father I pray that you would enable each individual person in North Carolina, whether they are a private or public servant, that they would retain their right of conscience, they would not be forced and compelled by the government to participate in somebody else's sin if it violates their religious views. God, give us religious freedom, especially for those now being compelled by the government to sin":

Klingenschmitt Hopes Pastors Will Run For Office And 'Take Back America For The Kingdom Of God'

As we noted last month, Religious Right activist and Christian-nation extremist David Lane is currently organizing a nationwide effort to recruit 1,000 pastors to run for political office because it is now the "appointed time of God" for Christians to take control of America.

Not surprisingly, that effort is being welcomed by Religious Right activist and Colorado state representative Gordon Klingenschmitt is welcoming the effort, as he endorsed it on his "Pray In Jesus Name" program recently in hopes that "we can take back America for the Kingdom of God."

Saying that there are too many elected officials today who "promote the kingdom of sin and they want to legislate their immorality on the people," Klingenschmitt declared that America would be better served if those who promote the Kingdom of God were elected to office.

"You can only have two kinds of morality," he said. "You can have God's morality or immorality. I would much rather be ruled by godly, God-fearing men and women."

Klingenschmitt then prayed for Lane and his effort and that all the pastors who decide to run for office will win "so we can take back America for the Kingdom of God in Jesus' name":

Klingenschmitt: The Bible Opposes Gun-Free Zones

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Colordao Republican state legislator Gordon Klingenschmitt was discussing a lawsuit that has been filed against Cinemark over the mass shooting that occurred at its theater in Aurora, Colorado, in 2012 when he declared that even the Bible speaks about the dangers of establishing gun-free zones.

The solution to preventing mass shootings, Klingenschmitt said, is to let law-abiding citizens carry concealed weapons everywhere so that "nobody is a sitting duck" ... as even the Bible recognizes.

"Did you know in the Bible there were gun-free zones," Klingenschmitt asked, before citing 1 Samuel 13:19:

Now there was no blacksmith to be found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, "Lest the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears."

"By removing all of the blacksmiths, the Hebrews were defenseless, they were sitting ducks without swords and spears and therefore they were ruled and dominated by their evil oppressors," he said. "Are we going to let that happen here in America? That is to be determined, but I think there ought to be a law":

Klingenschmitt Warns That The Government Will Make Christians Renounce Christ In Order To Keep Their Jobs

Earlier this month, a court ruled in favor of a man who had sued his employer, claiming that he was forced to retire when he refused to use a biometric scanning program that had been instituted to track employee attendance. The employee claimed that using the scanner was a violation of his religious beliefs because it was a "Mark of the Beast" and a jury agreed, awarding him $150,000 in damages.

Gordon Klingenshmitt, unsurprisingly, was elated by the ruling, saying on a recent "Pray in Jesus Name" program that, like the "Mark of the Beast" scanning requirement, not allowing Christian business owners to discriminate against gay customers is a sign of the End Times.

Citing Revelation 13:16, Klingenschmitt declared that Christian photographers, florists, and bakers are all being forced to take the Mark of the Beast and will eventually be required to denounce Christ entirely in order to even remain in business.

"That's just the camel's nose under the tent," he warned. "Eventually, it will end up requiring that you renounce Christ as a condition of remaining employed":

  • Huckabee will also address a luncheon for Allen West's National Center for Policy Analysis in February.
  • David Barton knows how to save America: "We need to fill our school boards, city councils, public utility districts and other city and county positions with common-sense, God-fearing, Constitution-heeding individuals."
  • Tea Party Nation declares that "the state of New York has inflicted many indignities on the United States.  But perhaps none is worse that the current junior Senator from the Empire State.  Kirsten Gillibrand is not simply a terrible Senator.  She is a terrible person."
  • Finally, remember the story about the Missouri middle school student who was supposedly told that he was not allowed to read his Bible in school that was almost immediately debunked? Gordon Klingenschmitt just repeated it on his latest "Pray In Jesus Name" program.

  • Mike Huckabee has no qualms about associating with the anti-gay bigots at the American Family Association judging by the fact that he called into the "Today's Issues" radio program this morning to promote his forthcoming book.
  • Rick Santorum also obviously has no qualms about standing with anti-gay bigots, as he'll be speaking at Liberty Counsel's "Awakening 2015" event in March.
  • Finally, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt laughably insists that his role as a demon-hunting anti-gay exorcist will have no impact on his work as a Colorado state legislator: "I'm one person, but I might wear two hats. And my weekend job, what I preach on Sundays, is not necessarily related to my day job, which I do Monday through Friday here in the state legislature."

President Obama 'Is The Face Of Islam In America'

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Gordon Klingenschmitt interviewed Bill Warner, who runs the website PoliticalIslam.com, to get his thoughts about last week's terrorist attack in Paris.

Eventually the conversation turned to Klingenschmitt's concern that President Obama is "promoting Islam with American tax dollars," which prompted Warner to declare that, under Sharia law, Obama is a Muslim, which makes him "the face of Islam in America."

"He always, as I say, chops wood and carries water for Muhammad," Warner said. "He clearly represents them in his foreign policy speeches. He represents them in his White House spokesmen. He is the face of Islam in America":

It seems that radical right-wing conspiracy theorists have the ear of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who recently ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor a U.S. military exercise called Jade Helm 15. According to many of these far-right activists, Jade Helm 15 is part of a secret effort to take over conservative states like Texas, impose martial law, confiscate people’s firearms, round up “patriotic men,” force people into cattle cars and lock them up in Wal-Marts that have been converted into FEMA camps.
