Earlier this week, the House of Representatives voted down an amendment to an appropriations bill that would have allowed physicians working for the Department of Veterans Affairs to discuss medical marijuana options with patients in states where it is legal. Rep. John Fleming took to conservative talk radio to voice opposition to the move, appearing on the Family Research Council’s “Washington Watch” yesterday to warn that marijuana will lead to “death and destruction” among military veterans. “We’re creating a vicious cycle that could lead to more... Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission appeared yesterday on Istook Live, the Heritage Foundation radio show hosted by former Congressman Ernest Istook, to discuss why the Boy Scouts of America should maintain its ban on gay members. Co-host C.J. Wheeler asked Land how to tell her gay peers and colleagues, “You’re my friend, but I don’t want you to be a Boy Scout leader. You’re my friend, but I’m tired of your agenda being forced down my throat.” She lamented that “it’s a hard world to... MORE >

Save California’s Randy Thomason on Friday appeared on Istook Live, the Heritage Foundation radio program hosted by former Republican congressman Ernest Istook, to discuss the Supreme Court case on Proposition 8. He accused the California state officials who refused to defend Prop 8 of “dissing God” and went on to warn that “usurpers of the United States Constitution” have methodically and stealthily “infiltrated” the government and the courts in order to launch another civil war. This not the characteristic of a Republic when there are sworn... MORE >

A while back we chronicled the on-going fight between Dick Armey and James Dobson in which Armey proclaimed that "Dobson and his gang of thugs are real nasty bullies." Well, judging by Amey's appearance on "Hardball" last night, it seems that the same could quite easily be said about him.Former Rep. Ernest Istook suggests that President Obama ought to get Al Sharpton, Julian Bond, Jesse Jackson, Ward Connerly, CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), Herman Cain, Ken Blackwell and J.C. Watts together to figure out what to do about affirmative action and "gather them all... MORE >

Ex-Rep. Ernest Istook of the Heritage Foundation might have thought he was pretty edgy in resorting to Nazi metaphors to describe the California Supreme Court’s decision in favor of marriage rights for gays and lesbians. But Janet Folger consulted her sources and came up with an even more apocalyptic comparison: There was only one time in history, according to these writings, where men were given in marriage to men, and women given in marriage to women. Want to venture a guess as to when? No, it wasn't in Sodom and Gomorrah, although that was my guess. Homosexuality... MORE >
