Troy Newman of the militantly anti-choice group Operation Rescue appeared yesterday on the Janet Mefferd Show to discuss an upcoming HBO series based on the life and death of Dr. George Tiller, the Kansas abortion provider who was murdered by a “pro-life” activist at his church. Newman claimed that women’s health centers that offer family planning are filthy, “demonic” places where “the abortionist takes every drop of money that he can get” to feed his many addictions, including drugs, alcohol, sex and gambling. He argued that the late Dr. Tiller was... MORE >

In our previous post we noted that the American Family Association spent two hours promoting the new WallBuilders "Building On The American Heritage Series" DVD program and that, during the program, David Barton took calls from listeners in the AFA audience. During the Q&A, one of the listeners expressed hope that the next president would give Barton a Cabinet-level appointment, maybe as Attorney General, but that was a notion that Barton quickly shot down by admitting it would never happen because he is "radioactive." But Barton then went on to reveal... MORE >

On her radio program today, Mission America’s Linda Harvey continued to stun, rolling out a new anti-gay claim: that it would have been better if Christians in the LGBT community and those who support equality had “simply walked away from Christianity.” Discussing One Wheaton, a group of LGBT and allied allumni of the evangelical Wheaton College in Illinois, Harvey reprised her theory that God couldn’t possibly make people gay, bisexual or transgender. She also repeated her earlier argument that LGBT people don’t exist, saying, “There’s no evidence... MORE >

Speaking with Family Research Council president Tony Perkins on Washington Watch last week, Texas Republican Rep. Ted Poe accused President Obama and his administration of promoting policies that are “anti-religious.” Poe and Perkins were discussing with the manufactured controversy over a Texas veteran’s cemetery that prohibits a volunteer group from holding religious services at a funeral if the family does not request it. The New York Times points out that this rule was created in 2007 by the Bush administration, but according to Poe, the policy is actually all Obama... MORE >

Last week, Bryan Fischer weighed in on the Viki Knox controversy with a column declaring that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was the charter member of "American Association of Religious Bigots" [a group Fischer just made up] because of Christie's concerns about Knox's comments. Fischer discussed the controversy and his column on his radio program yesterday, where he said that the entire thing was set off by a display honoring Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month and asking if the display honored "all the homosexuals that had an enormous impact on history... In an appearance on Family Life radio on Sunday, Star Parker argued that all of America’s ills, from excessive government spending to deep-rooted poverty, are a result of “sexual promiscuity” and “immorality.” Parker, who wrote in a column this week that America “can’t divorce our sexual promiscuity from our fiscal promiscuity,” told Family Life said that “sexual irresponsibility and immorality” led to “the top three social crises confronting us as a nation today,” which she said are “AIDS, abortion, and the entire... Several weeks ago, the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins hosted a press briefing at the National Press Club to discuss just what it is that the Religious Right is seeking in a Republican presidential nominee. During the Q&A, Perkins was asked to discuss the idea that the very positions that make a candidate appealing to the Religious Right are the same positions that make such candidates unappealing to the general voting population. Not surprisingly, Perkins took issue with that assessment and asserted instead that without the support of the Religious Right, no Republican candidate... MORE >

Coverage of the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit this year was dominated by stories of Robert Jeffress’ criticism of the Mormon faith; Bryan Fischer’s unabashed bigotry; and the infighting that rose to the surface when Bill Bennett rebuked Jeffress and Mitt Romney, tepidly and not by name, denounced Fischer. The press coverage of the Religious Right conference was so completely focused on Jeffress and Fischer that the FRC even asked members to pray that the media will stop reporting on the story. Today FRC president Tony Perkins used his radio alert today to... MORE >
