Steve Stockman: Obama's 'Brute Force' Oppresses Conservatives

Rep. Steve Stockman said today that conservatives “pay a heavy toll” simply for making reasonable demands like “calling for the arrest of Lois Lerner,” warning in a Newsmax interview that Republicans are going up against a president keen on exercising “brute force” to oppress his opponents.

Oddly, Newsmax described the Texas congressman as “Sen. Steve Stockman.” Stockman did run for U.S. Senate, but lost badly in the GOP primary.

Ben Carson: To Know Obama, Read 'Mein Kampf'

In an interview with Newsmax host J.D. Hayworth today, Ben Carson said that if people want to know the truth about President Obama, they should simply “read ‘Mein Kampf’ and read the works of Vladimir Lenin.” “Mein Kampf,” of course, was written by Adolf Hitler and is filled with anti-Communist diatribes.

Carson, a likely Republican presidential candidate who is obsessed with the conspiracy-theory-laden book “The Naked Communist,” strongly hinted in the interview that he believes Obama is a communist.

Carson has previously claimed that Obama wants to turn America into Nazi Germany and a Gestapo-like state, warning that “we live in a Gestapo age.”

He also told Hayworth, a former Arizona Republican congressman, that Obama and other Democrats are using the uproar in Ferguson, Missouri, to “manipulate” people and “fan the flames of division.”

Carson said the fatal shooting of Michael Brown “has less to do with racism and a lot more to do with some deep cultural issues that are producing individuals who are likely to end up in trouble with the law, who are likely to end up in conflict with each other which will lead to violence and death.”

JD Hayworth Takes On GOP's Women Problem With Incomprehensible Speech About Marriage

Former Arizona Republican congressman J.D. Hayworth, who lost his primary challenge to Sen. John McCain in 2010, has since landed a job as an anchor for Newsmax, where he delivers the news and conducts interviews in a style eerily reminiscent of Parks and Recreation’s Perd Hapley.

Hayworth fully deployed this characteristic flare in an interview today with Kellyanne Conway, a GOP pollster, about a new poll showing that women view the Republican Party as “intolerant” and “stuck in the past.”

When Conway’s Skype connection cut out, Hayworth quipped that she was “frozen in time,” which prompted him to muse that that would be a great attack line for his political opponents.

Hayworth then launched into a barely comprehensible soliliquy about how Conway had changed her name when she married “because people marry and they take different names” and how “you can’t allow your marriage to be caricatured.”

All of which means that there is no gender gap. Or something:

Doctor Shuts Down Newsmax's Scaremongering About Child Migrants And Disease

One of the most persistent talking points that the anti-immigrant movement has been throwing out about the influx of Central American children fleeing to the United States has been the fear that the children will carry exotic diseases such as Ebola and introduce them to the United States. These fears are not only completely unfounded, but play on some of the most insidious anti-immigrant stereotypes.

So, it was a pleasant surprise today when someone at the right-wing outlet Newsmax neglected to do their homework and invited an actual infectious disease expert to discuss the supposed problem with host J.D. Hayworth, a former Republican congressman.

Hayworth eagerly prompted Dr. Peter Hotez, an infectious disease specialist at the Texas Children’s Hospital, to confirm the anti-immigrant movement’s fears about Central American children bringing “widespread infectious diseases into the United States.”

“I actually think the threat of diseases coming into the United States from Central America is fairly remote,” Hotez told a shocked Hayworth.

Hotez then went on to explain how the real problem causing the spread of disease in the U.S. is widespread poverty, at which point Hayworth cut off the interview.

Correction: This post originally misspelled Dr. Hotez's name.

Ben Stein: Michael Brown 'Wasn't Unarmed. He Was Armed With His Incredibly Strong, Scary Self'

In an interview with Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg yesterday, conservative pundit Ben Stein insisted that Michael Brown, the black teenager who was shot to death by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, “wasn’t unarmed” because he was “armed with his incredibly strong, scary self.”

“The idea of calling this poor man ‘unarmed’ when he was six-foot-four, 300 pounds, full of muscles, apparently — from what I read in the New York Times — on marijuana, to call him unarmed is like calling Sonny Liston unarmed or Cassius Clay unarmed,” Stein said.

He went on to accuse Attorney General Eric Holder of leading a “lynching” of the police officer who killed Brown, alleging that the deaths of Brown and of Trayvon Martin were cases of a “very large so-called victim attacking a policeman.”

Rep. Steve Stockman: GOP Wants To Arrest Lois Lerner Because She's 'A Word That Rhymes With Witch'

Rep. Steve Stockman is beginning to think that his plan to impeach President Obama might be bad politics, so is now moving on to the brilliant plan of arresting former IRS official Lois Lerner for being what he calls “a word that rhymes with witch.”

In an interview with Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg yesterday, the Texas Republican said that while he still thinks President Obama has “done impeachable offenses,” he now sees that the president is “trying to use people like myself” to start impeachment proceedings that would reflect poorly on Republicans.

So, Stockman said, he’s focusing his efforts before the summer recess on pushing a House vote to arrest Lerner, a move which he may be able to take without the approval of GOP leadership.

When Malzberg asked him whether he thinks his arrest motion would garner the support of his fellow Republicans, Stockman replied, “Well, they said some things about jail and a word that rhymes with witch sometimes to me.”

He went on to criticize Lerner for being “insolent,” “in no way compliant,” and having “total disrespect for Congress.”

'Disgusted' And 'Demoralized' Gary Bauer Rebukes Republicans For Giving Up On Gay Marriage Fight

A dejected Gary Bauer appeared today on “The Steve Malzberg Show,” where he said he doesn’t know whether “the emotion I most feel is anger or disgust” over the two court rulings today on marriage equality.

“America is now a country where the opinion of the people means nothing,” Bauer said. “We’re in deep trouble indeed.”

Bauer also scolded his fellow Republicans for not doing enough to oppose gay rights: “It is demoralizing to see how few Republicans are willing to publically show their outrage about these kinds of decisions.”

Steve Stockman Suggests Obama Is A Secret Muslim And Terrorist Sympathizer

Speaking with NewsMax’s Steve Malzberg last week, Rep. Steve Stockman insisted that President Obama “has a grudge against the military and the American people” and a “propensity to fall again and again on the side of terrorists” in countries like Egypt, Syria and Libya.

“A lot of people say he’s not something, we can’t say it on the radio, but if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, I think it might be a duck,” he said, suggesting that Obama is a secret Muslim.

Lifting a joke from Sen. Rand Paul, the Texas Republican also suggested that the administration exchange National Security Advisor Susan Rice for a U.S. Marine held in a Mexican jail on weapons charges.

Mike Huckabee Marks Tiananmen Square Protests By Comparing US To Communist China

Mike Huckabee, who back in April remarked that people in North Korea have more freedoms than Americans, today marked the anniversary of the Chinese government’s violent suppression of the pro-democracy Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 by alleging that the United States is turning into Communist China.

In an interview on Newsmax TV, Huckabee insisted that “China is becoming more like the United States used to be and the United States is becoming more like China used to be.”

“We’re getting to the place where our government is controlling much more of what we say, what we think, what we do and they’re invading our privacy,” he said. “That ought to scare the daylights out of Americans.”

Steve Malzberg Warns Honey Maid Is 'Incurring The Wrath' Of The Straight '95 Percent Of The Population'

Adding his voice to the right-wing outrage over Honey Maid’s TV ad featuring a same-sex couple, NewsMax’s Steve Malzberg mocked the company’s video response to its critics.

“I’m all choked up, not really,” Malzberg sneered, adding that he was upset about positive news coverage of Honey Maid’s ad.

“I don’t know how wholesome it is, it’s a company decision and now they are going to have to live with it. If they’re looking to appeal to the 5 percent of the population that’s gay, good for them, but you do so possibly at the expense of some of the other 95 percent of the population and incurring their wrath.”

Malzberg: Maybe People Locked Their Doors Around Obama Because He Was High On Drugs

Today, President Obama shared his thoughts on the not guilty verdict in the Trayvon Martin murder case during which he made the point that African American males in this country are often treated with suspicion and that that history informs "how the African-American community interprets what happened one night in Florida":

There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me.

And there are very few African-American men who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator. There are very few African-Americans who haven’t had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off. That happens often.

As luck would have it, Steve Malzberg of Newsmax had right-wing crackpot Erik Rush scheduled to be on his radio program today so the two were able to discuss Obama's remarks.  After Rush asserted that people like Obama are treated with suspicion because they cultivate a "cynical, suspicious, chip-on-your-shoulder attitude," Malzberg weighed in wanting to know if Obama experienced people crossing to the other side of the street or locking their doors after he climbed out of a van where he and his friends had been smoking pot.

"Maybe when he got out of that van and wandered across the street, someone pushed down their button. I mean, you know, he's making is sound like he was walking around as a young man in a shirt and a tie and this was happening":

Schlafly: Obama's Goal Is To Break The Capitalist System

Phyllis Schlafly is absolutely convinced that City University of New York professor Frances Fox Piven is responsible for turning Barack Obama into a socialist, telling Newsmax that Obama is now attempting to implement a strategy "to load so many people on welfare that he breaks the capitalist system"  and turn America into a socialist nation.

This is "the most dangerous presidency we've ever had," Schalfly asserted, adding that she just hopes that the nation can survive until the next election because Obama is so beholden to the feminist movement that he made sure that most of the jobs created by the Stimulus Legislation went to women:

Wendy Wright's New Job: Stopping The Girl Scouts' "Radical, Feminist, Pro-Abortion" Agenda

Wendy Wright, who left her job as president of Concerned Women for America under mysterious conditions, is continuing her right-wing activism by taking the fight to the Girl Scouts of the USA. Wright joined Janet Parshall yesterday on In The Market to discuss their shared antipathy to the Girl Scouts and what parents can do to fight the Girl Scouts.

Wright, who previously argued that the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood were “working together to steal children's innocence and make them vulnerable to the negative consequences of promiscuity thereby creating clients for their abortion and STD services,” highlighted claims by the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute that the Girl Scouts advocated for abortion rights and distributed a Planned Parenthood sex-ed brochure at a private United Nations panel. However, Girl Scouts of the USA categorically denied the group’s claims, saying that the brochure was never distributed at the event (where only 30-35 teenage girls were present) and that their organization “does not take a position on family planning.”

On Parshall’s show, Wright said parents should call for an investigation into whether the money from Girl Scout cookie sales goes to teaching “young girls to be activists and advocates for a radical sexual agenda.” She blamed the Girl Scouts leadership for supporting a “radical, feminist, pro-abortion form of activism and training these girls up to be feminist activists.” Wright urged parents instead to have their daughters join a “wholesome, pro-God, alternative to the Girl Scouts” called the American Heritage Girls. The American Heritage Girls was founded by Patti Garibay, who, according to CNS News was “motivated to leave the Girl Scout organization when the group decided it would take no position on homosexuality” and to encourage instruction in “traditionally feminine skills, such as sewing, cooking and laundry.” American Heritage Girls bills itself as a “Christ-centered” group that denounces “moral relativism.”

Listen:

Well they need to be contacting the national leadership and encouraging them to cut-off any ties to groups like Planned Parenthood that advocate abortion on demand, that actually encourages young girls to be sexually active, thereby creating more clients for Planned Parenthood. And I think we need to probably take a look as well to where the funding to those Girl Scout cookies go to. I love those Thin Mint cookies and I love the other cookies they have as well but it’s disturbing enough for me to think that if I were to buy those cookies that they would end up fueling and funding campaigns like this one at the United Nations where young girls are trained to be advocates and activists for a radical sexual agenda.

This turnover in the national leadership is one toward activism, a radical, feminist, pro-abortion form of activism and training these girls up to be feminist activists. And so I think parents need to be on the lookout for anything that is being taught their girls through the Girl Scouts to turn them into activists. But I’d also like to make people aware of another organization, an alternative organization, called the American Heritage Girls. In which it was created in order to be a wholesome, pro-God alternative to the Girl Scouts. It was started by parents who were very disturbed by seeing the direction the Girl Scouts were taking so I encourage people to look into the American Heritage Girls as an alternative to the Girl Scouts.

Gordon Robertson: Obama Was Raised Muslim And Could Inspire Other Muslims To Convert

Pat Robertson’s son Gordon, who is also the CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network and the heir to his father’s political and media empire, told the conservative NewsMax.com President Obama was raised a Muslim and hoped his conversion to Christianity will inspire other Muslims to convert during an interview with his father:

Turning his attention to matters of faith intertwined with politics, Robertson said President Barack Obama goes out of his way to downplay America’s Christian origins. But attacking Obama on that front in an effort to defeat him in 2012 would be the wrong approach, he said.

“I don’t know if people should rise up against that or just say, ‘Beat him in relation to his policies,’” Robertson said during the Newsmax interview, in which he also shared the floor with his son Gordon, who is CEO of CBN and co-host of the “700 Club.”

Gordon interjected: “Obama’s father was a Muslim, and he [Obama] became a Christian convert. More recently he has celebrated his faith and become far more public in it. I think he’s feeling the need to be more vocal: ‘I am a Christian.’

“He was raised Muslim and has come out and said, ‘I want to be a Christian.’ That’s something we ought to explore. Could that have influence within the Muslim world to get others to question and look to Christianity?”

The problem is, Obama was not raised a Muslim.

Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post's Fact Checker writes, Obama’s father (who left when he was two years old) was an atheist and his mother was not religious. While he became a Christian in his 20s, he had never practiced Islam. According to his campaign’s Fight the Smears, “Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian. Further, this myth perpetuates unfortunate falsehoods about the Muslim-American community that are offensive to people of all faiths.”

Cain: No Religion In Politics Except For "Biblical Principles"

After telling a reporter from Think Progress that he wouldn’t appoint any Muslims to his administration, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has doubled-down on his religious test for public office. Cain told the conservative site NewsMax that his opposition to Muslims serving in government comes fro his belief that “they are not free to infuse their religious beliefs into our laws”:

“They can accuse me of bigoted speech all they want,” Cain counters.

“I want people committed to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States in my administration. I don’t have the time or the desire to worry about somebody or some faction that wants to impose shariah law on this nation. I believe in American laws in American courts.

“The First Amendment says everybody can practice whatever religion they choose. [Muslims] are free to practice their religion in the United States, just like all other legitimate religions. But they are not free to infuse their religious beliefs into our laws. We don’t do that in the United States, and if I’m president I’m going to work to keep it that way.”

But in an interview with Bryan Fischer, Cain claimed that the US and the constitution is “based on biblical principles, [and] I want to get back to those principles as president.” He also said that he was called by God (via text message) to run for the office.

Another likely Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, similarly criticized Muslims for purportedly trying to bring their religious beliefs into politics while at the same time urging Christians to “try and change” laws since “civil laws are supposed to comport with God’s laws.”

Right Wing Leftovers

  • The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that Fred Phelps and his band of anti-gay bigots have the right to protest military funerals.
  • Apparently Newt Gingrich won't be announcing the formation of a presidential exploratory committee.
  • On a related note, Bryan Fischer says he won't be supporting Gingrich if he does run because "it is imperative that the next standard bearer of the conservative movement be a man who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to family values in deed as well as in words, a man who does not just talk the talk but has walked the walk."
  • Ken Hutcherson says President Obama's DOMA decision is "delusional."
  • Finally, Pat Robertson tells Newsmax that God is not going to "turn this world lose to the crazies" but He may destroy it with a meteor.  So that is reassuring.

Right Wing Leftovers

  • Rick Santorum defends the Crusades.
  • Ken Cuccinelli is scheduled to speak at Regent University.
  • As promised, Randall Terry's crew was arrested at Speaker John Boehner's office today, though Terry himself was not.
  • Mike Huckabee needs to make up his mind about how easy it will be to beat President Obama in 2012.
  • For some reason, the ACLJ has been very silent on their loss in their suit against health care reform.
  • Matt Barber says that everyone who doesn't realize that Muslims are out to enslave us all are "idiots."
  • Finally, John Hagee explains that the developments in Libya were all foretold in the Bible.

More Right-Wing Spin on Tucson Shootings; Malkin Sees Campaign to “Criminalize Conservativism”

While Sarah Palin tries to make herself out as the real victim of the shootings in Arizona, even going so far as to compare herself to Jewish victims of “blood libels,” the right-wing echo-chamber has been busy spinning the shootings in Tucson. After Tea Party Nation head Judson Phillips called Jared Lee Loughner “a liberal lunatic,” conservatives eagerly promoted his claims. NewsMax claimed that Loughner has links to “left-wing politics” since his favorite books include “‘The Communist Manifesto’ by Karl Marx, Adolf Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf,’ and the fiction classic ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.’” The American Family Association’s news service declared the “AZ shooter a leftist, not tea party supporter,” quoting Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America who “believes there is substantial evidence to show that suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, is an angry leftist who hates America and Christianity.” The RightNetwork’s Gateway Pundit maintained that Loughner is a “Left-Winger” because he “likes watching US flags burn & favorite book is ‘Communist Manifesto,’” and WorldNetDaily said Loughner may have been influenced by a “liberal group founded by Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers and funded by President Obama.”

Rush Limbaugh even alleged that Loughner “has the full support of a major political party in this country. He's sitting there in jail; he knows what's going on. He knows that a Democrat [sic] Party -- the Democrat [sic] Party -- is attempting to find anybody but him to blame.”

But when the Right isn’t attempting to paint Loughner as a liberal, they try to demonize Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. Right-wing writer Michelle Malkin today called Dupnik “The Worst Sheriff in America” and condemned his “vulture-like exploitation of the shooting rampage.” Dupnik, who has spoken out against the role of violence and hate mongering in politics, has found himself in the crosshairs of conservative pundits and politicians. Now, Malkin seeks to blame the Sheriff for the shooting and accuses him of seeking publicity for himself and attempting to “criminalize conservatism”:

Dupnik's mouth has done more to stoke self-inflicted ire against elected government clowns than anything the right could muster against him. Had the hyper-partisan Democrat been more in tune with his job than the media airwaves, the murderous, maniacal gunman might have been stopped.

As Dupnik himself has now admitted, Loughner leveled death threats against others that were investigated by law enforcement -- and then apparently shrugged off. Locals note that Loughner's mother worked for the county and may have had some pull. Pima County College campus police reported five serious confrontations with the mentally unstable young man before he was kicked out of the school, which he decried as an unconstitutional "torture facility." Classmates said they feared for their lives. His friends say he was a pothead, a 9/11 Truther and a UFO conspiracist so kooky that even flying-objects adherents spurned him.

Despite zero evidence that Rush Limbaugh, cable news, the tea party movement or immigration enforcement activists had anything to do with Loughner's warped attack, shameless Sheriff Dupnik shows no signs of shutting up.

The worst sheriff in America is walking in the footsteps of another infamous law enforcement official who put fame, ambition and ideology above public safety: disgraced Montgomery County (Md.) Police Chief Charles Moose, the publicity-hungry Keystone Cop who grossly bungled the Beltway sniper attacks in 2002.

...

Dupnik is now following the same ill-gotten path. But decent Americans understand that he and his civilian counterparts have traveled a smear too far. Despite desperate attempts by the progressive left to pin the massacre on the "harsh tone" of its political opponents, a vast majority of Americans reject the cynical campaign to criminalize conservatism, suppress political free speech and capitalize on violent crime for electoral gain.
