Americans for Truth about Homosexuality

LaBarbera: Kids Better Off In Single-Parent Household Than With Same-Sex Parents

In an interview with Alan Colmes yesterday, Americans For Truth About Homosexuality head Peter LaBarbera said that children are better off in a single parent household than with same-sex parents, whom he warned would teach children “perversion.”

Colmes: Let’s talk factually: we know it’s not always possible to have a two-parent household. So I’m asking you, is the child better with two parents of the same gender or a one-parent household?

LaBarbera: I don’t know, I tend to think they’d be better off in a single-parent household because you’re not modeling homosexual behavior. When you have two men raising a young child, that child grows up learning dysfunction and a sexual perversion as normal. He’s learning a sexual perversion as normality.

Later in the interview, the anti-gay activist was left speechless when Colmes asked him to spell out his plan to ban homosexuality.

LaBarbera repeatedly refused to answer Colmes’ question about what he thinks the punishment for homosexual behavior should be, finally admitting: “I don’t know what the punishment should be.”

“So you want these laws on the books but you don’t know what to do about them?” Colmes asked. “You keep talking about criminalizing sodomy and using the country of Jamaica as a model for that but you’re not telling me how you would enforce it and then what the punishment should be. So you don’t have a well-rounded idea of how to approach the idea of criminalizing it.”

In Jamaica, where LaBarbera campaigned for the preservation of the country’s stringent anti-gay laws, homosexuality is punishable up to ten years in jail.

LaBarbera: Robin Roberts' Coming Out 'Is A Tragedy'

After Robin Roberts of Good Morning America came out of the closet, it was only a matter of time before Americans For Truth About Homosexuality head Peter LaBarbera attacked her for being gay. In an interview with Vic Eliason of VCY America yesterday, LaBarbera blasted Roberts for her “defiance” and lamented that “every coming out is a tragedy.”

“And how sad that our First Lady and the White House in general and President Obama as well, all celebrate homosexuality,” LaBarbera added.

Eliason also seemed to be confused by Roberts’ gender.

Later in the interview, LaBarbera invoked Ronald Reagan’s “evil empire” speech to explain his campaign against gay rights.

“The homosexual so-called marriage movement is evil,” LaBarbera said. “We need to do what Reagan did with communism, we need to come right out there and say: this movement attaching the God-ordained good of marriage to an abomination which is homosexuality, calling that marriage, that’s evil, it’s an evil movement.” He went on to claim that “the homosexual so-called marriage movement has become a huge platform to corrupt children” as its message “corrupts the minds and the souls of young children.”

Later, the two also railed against the transgender community as Satanic, and Eliason likened transgender people to circus “freak shows.”

LaBarbera: It just gets worse and worse, Vic. Transgender advocacy are people who believe that their biological sex, male or female, doesn’t match what they feel. I’ll tell you what Vic, Satan really works through feelings, doesn’t he?

Eliason: He sure does.

LaBarbera: Because life is not what you feel. If every married couple acted on their given feelings day-to-day we would have a lot more divorces in this culture, wouldn’t we? Feelings does not determine truth.

Eliason: You know, Peter, years and years ago the old fashioned circus used to have a display in some kind of a cage or a display factor that had a ‘bearded lady’ as a freak. Today we don’t even have to worry about that, it will be happening in your department stores, it will be happening in the public school, the issue of cross-dresses and transvestites and all of this type of thing certainly is what you’re talking about.

LaBarbera: 'Glee' Has Turned America Against God

Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality lamented late last month that “America is becoming a profane nation that is against God” thanks to gay marriage and TV shows like Glee.

Speaking with Sandy Rios of the American Family Association on December 20, LaBarbera hailed Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay views while arguing that openly gay people have warped the minds of young people.

In his generation, I think he’s 67, it was just taken for granted that homosexuality was wrong, an abomination, something terrible, awful. But look at where we are now, you have programs like Glee where you have young men with romantic kisses on TV, I just learned that the Rose Bowl parade is going to have a homosexual so-called marriage float, all of those little kids are going to be seeing two men or two women or whatever it is getting married so-called and it’s going to infect their minds and corrupt those young minds.

LaBarbera, who recently traveled to Jamaica to defend the country’s ban on gay sex, denounced U.S.-led efforts to promote LGBT rights abroad.

He warned that the “homosexual agenda” will ultimately bring America down, because homosexuality “is in the vanguard of bringing societies down, I think it’s the marker for a declining society and if that’s the case then America is in big trouble because we have become a radical pro-gay culture. I was in Jamaica just a couple of weeks ago, we’re spreading immorality around the world, we’re exporting homosexuality now to these little countries like Jamaica using our foreign aid dollars.”

LaBarbera: Beware The Gay Monster

Reflecting on his recent trip to Jamaica to defend the country’s ban on homosexuality, Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality said that homosexuality must remain a crime because otherwise gay people may — gasp! — organize politically and demand equality under the law.

LaBarbera writes in an essay on his website that homosexuality acts like “an insatiable, devouring monster,” lamenting that “we in America have our own arrogant and vengeful ‘gay’ (LGBT) ‘monster in our midst.’”

Folks, when I was in Jamaica I took time in my presentations to share this compelling passage from British historian Paul Johnson, from his book, The Quest for God: A Personal Pilgrimage. (Hat tip to Paul Cameron of Family Research Institute for bringing this to light.) I have found nothing that better explains the inevitable slippery slope of indulged pro-homosexual activism — from the repeal of anti-sodomy laws (motivated by well-intended but misguided compassion toward homosexuals as “victims”); to demands for “tolerance” of homosexuality; to the steady growth of a “gay rights” movement winning passage of laws granting affirmative “rights” based on sexual perversion (and gender confusion); to homosexual and transgender advocacy in schools (targeting even the very young [see book photo]); and ultimately, to the rise of a powerful, well-heeled Homosexual/Transgender Lobby that achieves dominance in society at the expense of biblical truth, religious tradition, public health and the rights of others to disagree.

Note that Johnson correctly calls homosexuality a “great moral evil” – something I think even many committed Christians – neutered by political correctness and decades of “gay” propaganda – today would have a hard time admitting (to their shame). Johnson, writing in 1996, had not yet experienced the attachment of this moral evil to the noble institution of marriage itself (as is now legal in the U.K and in 16 American states). Sin’s advance – like an insatiable, devouring monster — destroys people and cultures, and displaces virtue with man-centered notions of wrong as right (Isaiah 5:20).

Of course, we in America have our own arrogant and vengeful “gay” (LGBT) “monster in our midst” — and I warned the Jamaicans that they, too, will have one if they give in to Western powers by opening up the Pandora’s box of homosexual “rights” in their country. The smart and resolute Jamaican leaders and pastors whom I encountered understand the tragic lesson from Britain and the United States: all attempts to appease this self-justifying Sin Movement are doomed to fail, as each concession leads only to further, and more radical, demands.

UPDATE: LaBarbera also used the “monster” line in his statement on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson:

Homosexual behavior is wrong, unnatural, often high-risk, but thankfully, changeable -- as testified to by the redeemed lives of formerly "gay" men like Michael Glatze and ex-lesbian women like Yvette Cantu Schneider who have overcome homosexuality through faith in Jesus Christ. The Homosexual Lobby in America has morphed into an intolerant and 'vengeful' 'monster in our midst' -- to quote British historian Paul Johnson in describing the growth of homosexual power in the U.K. Christians and moral-minded Americans must rally behind Phil Robertson, condemn the homo-fascist 'Gay Thought Police' led by GLAAD who regularly pressure the media into silencing moral speech, and demand that an energetic and civil debate on homosexuality be allowed to flourish in this land we call free.

Religious Right Activists Laud Congressman's Campaign Against Gay Republicans

Anti-gay leaders are cheering on Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA) in his effort to block funding and support for two openly gay Republican congressional candidates. Americans For Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera praised Forbes for trying to preserve the GOP’s hard line against gay equality:

"The Republican party platform is opposed for the most part to homosexual activism, especially gay so-called marriage," says LaBarbera. "So Forbes understands that the Republican Party should not be in the business of promoting candidates that are going to promote sexual immorality."

LaBarbera says he is disappointed that many other prominent Republicans don't have a problem with "gay" GOP candidates.

"It's disappointing to see House Speaker Boehner and other prominent Republicans backing openly homosexual candidates because these candidates are not going to serve the interest of the Republican Party if the party still claims to be pro-family," the family advocate tells OneNewsNow.

Phil Burress of Citizens for Community Values, meanwhile, criticized House Speaker John Boehner for distancing himself from Forbes’ initiative.

In fact, Burress thinks “it is time for Boehner to be replaced as speaker” for caving to “self-proclaimed homosexuals” and “the homosexual agenda.”

"Sometimes I think he's been in Washington too long," Phil Burress, chairman of the Ohio-based Citizens for Community Values Action Political Action Committee, says of House Speaker John Boehner.

"If you're going to elect people who are self-proclaimed homosexuals, then you're totally ignoring what the Republican Party stands for in its national platform, marriage between one man and one woman," Burress tells OneNewsNow.

Burress observes he has never seen a homosexual in the Republican Party "who does not promote the homosexual agenda," which he says includes same-sex marriage and abortion.

One problem plaguing the GOP is the so-called big tent approach.

"The Democrats have two non-negotiable issues, same-sex marriage and abortion rights," Burress claims. "The Republican Party never talks about their non-negotiable issues because I don't think they have any."

Burress also says it is time for Boehner to be replaced as speaker.

UPDATE: Family Research Council president Tony Perkins also favors Forbes’ push against gay candidates:

While Forbes has been blasted for his comments, he knows -- as well as we do -- that this debate is about a lot more than someone's sexual preference. While we reject the false dichotomy of private and public morality, I -- like most Americans -- would rather not know about a person's bedroom habits. That's not the issue for Rep. Forbes. What he cares about --and what the GOP should too -- is whether these candidates will abide by the party's platform. When Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) was asked if his party could support an openly homosexual candidate, he replied, "I do." But the real question isn't whether the GOP would support an openly homosexual candidate, but whether it would support an openly homosexual activist who has sought to redefine marriage and undermine religious freedom. At the end of the day, conservatives and homosexual activists cannot coexist in a movement predicated on virtues that pre-date positive law. If there is a litmus test, it should be on ideology.

Instead, the NRCC and Republican Establishment are so desperate to beat the opposition that they'll sacrifice core principles to try. And here's the irony: that weak-kneed approach is what turns voters off. "Our decisions on the Republican nominees we support will not be based on race, gender, or sexual orientation," said Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), chair of the NRCC, "but will be based on the strength of their candidacy and their ability to defeat Democrats." Translation: the GOP will throw its support behind any candidate they believe can win, even it means throwing the party's stated principles overboard.

Peter LaBarbera Wants To Stop The Gays From Ruining Thanksgiving!

Americans For Truth About Homosexuality head Peter LaBarbera wishes you a very happy Thanksgiving, even though gay rights advocates want to ruin it by saying that they’re thankful for the gains in the movement for LGBT equality.

“Now homosexuality advocates (and others) have taken this regrettable phenomenon a step further: using Thanksgiving as an opportunity to be ‘thankful for’ developments that are decidedly ungodly – e.g., the advance of out-and-proud homosexualism,” LaBarbera laments. “How insidious is the ‘Progressive’ Left’s radical redefinition of everything noble – patriotism, liberty, equality, and now even God Himself – to advance their destructive agendas?”

As secularism and – dare I say – godlessness deepen in these United States, many are leaving God out of Thanksgiving Day. Language always follows the heart: have you noticed the habit that has crept in of being thankful for this and that – without being thankful to God?

Now homosexuality advocates (and others) have taken this regrettable phenomenon a step further: using Thanksgiving as an opportunity to be “thankful for” developments that are decidedly ungodly – e.g., the advance of out-and-proud homosexualism, including “same-sex marriage,” in the United States.

I came upon this homosexual website article timed for Thanksgiving about homosexuals being thankful for various “gay rights” achievements, including more lesbians on TV We know as Christians and Bible-respecting Jews that Our Heavenly Father is not smiling on that

And so, we have come full circle: citizens of a nation founded “under God” use our annual day of gratitude — conceived to humbly give thanks to God — to celebrate sin. How insidious is the “Progressive” Left’s radical redefinition of everything noble – patriotism, liberty, equality, and now even God Himself – to advance their destructive agendas?

Last week, while AFTAH protested outside at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) – in addition to sullying Abe Lincoln’s good name — quoted the Bible (the “love” passage in 1 Corinthians 13) to celebrate his signing of a homosexual “marriage” bill into law [watch the ceremony HERE]. Folks, this political profanity. To paraphrase another Democrat who sold his soul to the “Gay” Lobby — Barack Obama — God is definitely NOT in the mix when it comes to recasting “marriage” to accommodate sexual perversion.

So have a great Thanksgiving, watch some football, enjoy your feast – but take at least a moment, even privately in your heart, to thank the Lord your God for all your blessings – including living in a nation that has been blessed abundantly by Him. And repent of your sins, just as we as a nation must repent and return to honoring our motto of being under God if we are to achieve greatness again, and avoid His divine judgment upon us.

LaBarbera: Pro-Gay Rights Christians Inspired By Satan, Leading To 'Downfall Of American Society'

Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality appeared on Crosstalk yesterday for a show on the “Same Sex Marriage Tsunami,” where he told host Vic Eliason that Christians who affirm gay people are pushing an “insidious lie” that is “straight from Satan’s talking points.”

“It is Isaiah 5:20 in action, ‘Evil is called good and good evil,’” LaBarbera said. “Homosexuality, rather than being the sinful thing it is, is now parlayed that opposition to homosexuality is the sin and people are made gay by God.”

Meanwhile, Eliason, the head of Voice of Christian Youth America, said he is deeply concerned that the phrase “OMG” is “said as a curse” to God and corrupting young people.

LaBarbera agreed with Eliason’s claim that homosexuality a “vulgar, terrible sin that by its very behavior marks it as among the worst,” and added that pastors who affirm gay people will be “judged more severely than others because they are in positions of spiritual authority, supposedly.”

He said that the National Cathedral, an Episcopal church which supports gay rights, has now become a symbol of “the downfall of American society and American civilization.”

“We have become a morally corrupt nation,” he lamented. “Until we get right with God we will continue to go downhill.”

Eliason went on to lambast public schools for “promoting diversity” and to attack us here at Right Wing Watch for trying to “intimidate” them by quoting them verbatim.

Scarborough: We Need A Class Action Lawsuit Against Homosexuality

Watch out Big Gay, prepare to be served!

Rick Scarborough invited Peter LaBarbera to address his Tea Party Unity group today, and the two anti-gay activists discussed ways to somehow file a “class action lawsuit” against homosexuality just like when attorneys general of many states filed a lawsuit against tobacco companies.

LaBarbera was also upset that Fox News and other outlets aren’t covering the “wonderful stories of happy men and women who have left the homosexual lifestyle,” explaining that he wished there was an ad “of the kid in high school who was counseled by the official school counselor to just be gay, then he comes down with HIV.”

LaBarbera: We need to work on our conservative, alternate media and say, ‘look, don’t do the pro-gay thing, why don’t you rather step out and support these ex-gays?’ We should encourage Fox News to tell their stories. Fox is now telling the stories of black conservatives because the other media is not doing that, we should all get on Fox and say, ‘come on, tell these stories, these wonderful stories of happy men and women who have left the homosexual lifestyle.’

Scarborough: Peter, the whole issue of a class action lawsuit, you and I have talked about this a little bit. I just wonder if you’ve explored that, talked to anyone about it. Obviously, statistically now even the Centers for Disease Control verifies that homosexuality much more likely leads to AIDS than smoking leads to cancer. And yet the entire nation has rejected smoking, billions of dollars are put into a trust fund to help cancer victims and the tobacco industry was held accountable for that. Any thoughts on that kind of an approach?

LaBarbera: Yeah I think that’s great. I would love to see it. We always wanted to see one of the kid in high school who was counseled by the official school counselor to just be gay, then he comes down with HIV. But we never really got the client for that.

Rios: Gays Wanting To Become Scoutmasters, Big Brothers Proves They Seek To Abuse Children

American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios this week once again connected the gay community to child abuse, this time telling Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality that the fact gay people want to serve as Scoutmasters or Big Brothers or Big Sisters is “big proof” they are pedophiles.

LaBarbera, whose upcoming AFTAH banquet will feature Rios as the keynote speaker, didn’t dispute her claim, and argued that “homosexuality itself is immoral behavior so we would expect one sin to have other sins lead to it, and that’s exactly what we find.”

LaBarbera: All these things: pedophilia; sadism; masochism, are overrepresented in the homosexual movement then it would be in the rest of culture.

Rios: I guess one big proof that we should have some concern, the activists’ hell-bent determination to make sure that Boy Scout leaders can be gay men and that Big Brothers and Big Sisters can be—well they’ve succeeded with that—Big Brothers and Big Sisters now has no — that’s fine with them, with that organization, that a person be gay or a lesbian and be a Big Brother or Big Sister. Now they are really determined to make sure they break down Boy Scouts completely, they’ve succeeded to some extent. But that to me indicates an interest of older people being with younger people. I don’t know, am I rushing to a conclusion on that Peter?

LaBarbera: First of all, homosexuality itself is immoral behavior so we would expect one sin to have other sins lead to it, and that’s exactly what we find. We both know, we’ve been around a long time and we know these stories of so-called gay men who had child abuse in their own past, their own upbringing, and incredibly they make no connection between the pedophilia they experienced as boys and girls, some of them, and their adult gay identity. Common sense would say that’s wrong but sadly there’s this thing in the movement.

Globalizing Homophobia, Part 1: How The American Right Came to Embrace Russia’s Anti-Gay Crackdown

This is the first post in a four-part series exploring how American right-wing groups have supported Russia’s recent spate of anti-gay laws and its crackdown on LGBT citizens.

This summer, as part of a larger effort to channel political dissatisfaction by scapegoating minorities, the Russian government escalated its crackdown on the rights of gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual citizens. President Vladimir Putin and his allies found support and guidance in their anti-gay efforts from a group eager for an opportunity to notch some victories in the battle against LGBT freedom and equality: the American right.

On June 11, the Russian Duma passed a law banning “propaganda” about homosexuality to minors, essentially a gag rule criminalizing any advocacy for LGBT equality. (Moscow had already instituted a 100-year ban on gay pride parades.) Weeks later, on July 3, Putin signed a bill banning the adoption of Russian children by same-sex couples abroad and by single people in countries that allow marriage equality. Shortly afterward, a member of the Duma proposed a law that would revoke gay people’s custody of their biological children. The bill’s sponsor said in an interview that children would be better off in orphanages than with a gay mother or father.

Throughout this process, Russian gay rights groups reported a surge in anti-gay hate crimes. Journalist Julia Ioffe has documented some individual stories.

Russia’s crackdown on LGBT people comes amidst a broad crackdown on the rights of minorities and political dissenters or, in the words of one lawmaker, a campaign “to defend the rights of the majority.” On the same day the Duma passed its ban on gay “propaganda,” it also approved a harsh anti-blasphemy law promising jail time for “offending religious feelings.” The blasphemy measure was meant to strenghthen the laws that led to the political prosecution of the feminist punk band Pussy Riot, whose members were sentenced to two years in a penal colony for a performance that was deemed to offend “religious sensibilities.”

Russia’s repression of LGBT people and the Pussy Riot case have provoked an international outcry, intensified by the  the country’s role as the host of next year’s winter Olympics.

But throughout all this, one group has cheered on Putin’s actions: the American Religious Right and its international allies.

Even as tensions have grown between Russia and the United States, several Religious Right leaders have spoken loudly in favor of Putin’s crackdowns on gay people and political dissenters:

  • Conservative commentator and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan praised Putin for “trying to re-establish the Orthodox Church as the moral compass of the nation” by going after gays and political dissent and suggested that the United States follow his lead.
  • The anti-feminist group Concerned Women for America hailed the Pussy Riot prosecution, saying that the band displayed an “utter lack of morality.”
  • Religious Right activist Bob Vander Plaats, whose Family Leader events in Iowa have become must-attends for Republican presidential candidates, praised Putin’s “decisive leadership” on anti-gay laws.
  • American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer declared that Russia’s gay “propaganda” ban was exactly the kind of “public policy that we’ve been advocating” and that, if anything, the ban didn’t go far enough.
  • Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality praised the propaganda law, writing, “Russians do not want to follow America’s reckless and decadent promotion of gender confusion, sexual perversion, and anti-biblical ideologies to youth.”
  • Scott Lively, an American activist linked to Uganda’s push for the death penalty for gays, wrote that under Putin’s leadership, Russia has become a “beacon of freedom” while the U.S. has descended into a “gay version of the Soviet Union.” Lively also gave himself credit for “indirectly” assisting the ban on “homosexual propaganda,” calling it “one of the proudest achievements of my career.”
  • Vision America’s Rick Scarborough suggested that God would rebuke President Obama over his condemnation of Russia’s anti-gay crackdown, saying that Obama’s criticism of the propaganda law “puts our country in a very precarious place.”
  • Radio host Linda Harvey, head of the group Mission: America, praised the gay “propaganda” ban, declaring that any “responsible adult” would support it.
  • Rush Limbaugh praised Putin for “putting [his] foot down” against gay peoples’ “full-frontal assault on what has always been considered normalcy.”
  • Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) called the Russian law a “good thing” and claimed that “most of the people in the United States” would support a similar measure.
  • Larry Jacobs of the Illinois-based World Congress of Families hailed the propaganda law for “preventing [LGBT people] from corrupting children" and declared  that "the Russians might be the Christian saviors to the world."
  • Six American Religious Right groups, including the World Congress of FamiliesMission: America and C-FAM , joined an international coalition of right-wing groups in signing a statement supporting the anti-gay crackdown and condemning the international outrage against it.

American conservative groups haven’t just praised Russia’s crackdown on gays. Working through several channels, American anti-gay activists quietly provided intellectual backing and international support that directly and indirectly fueled the resurgent anti-gay movement in Russia and in other former Soviet states like Lithuania, Moldova and Ukraine.

In a series of posts today and tomorrow, we’ll look at how American activists influenced Russia’s anti-gay laws by funding anti-gay activism in Russia, testifying before the Duma, providing false research to fan the flames of anti-gay laws abroad, and building an international movement to back the harshest anti-gay laws around the world.

LaBarbera: 'It's Almost As If Homosexual Sodomy Was Created To Spread Disease'

Peter LaBarbera closed out his week co-hosting Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program with Matt Barber pretty much exactly as you would expect, continuing his attacks on gays and railing against the "sin of Sodom."

Saying that gay activists desperately "want approval for their lifestyle," LaBarbera was outraged that they are now using the government to "encourage and celebrate sin," so much so that "now they want to attach the sin of Sodom to marriage."

Approvingly quoting another anti-gay activist, LaBarbera declared that "it's almost as if homosexual sodomy was created to spread disease; that's how dangerous and unnatural this lifestyle is."

"When a nation embraces such confusion and such evil," LaBarbera warned, "it is on a moral decline":

Barber: Every Gay Person Knows 'What They Are Doing Is Immoral, Unnatural, & Self-Destructive'

Peter LaBarbera returned to Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program today where, once again, he and Matt Barber spent ten minutes denigrating gays as people who know, deep down, that their lives are immoral and shameful.

"God has written his laws on the hearts of every man, woman, and child," Barber said. "Every individual engaged in the homosexual lifestyle, who has adopted a homosexual identity, they know intuitively that what they are doing is immoral, unnatural, and self-destructive. Yet they thirst for that affirmation because they've tied their whole identity up in this sexual perversion."

LaBarbera agreed, saying that media outlets like Fox News need to start covering the stories of "ex-gays" like Charlene Cothran "who was a famous lesbian activist, who basically her mother and friends were praying for her and one day she was at a black gay pride event in Chicago, of all places, and she looked out and she had a tremendous sense of shame. That came from God!"

Barber & LaBarbera: 'Every Major Institution Is Being Corrupted By The Homosexual Agenda'

Peter LaBarbera was the guest on Liberty Counsel's "Faith and Freedom" radio program again today where he and Matt Barber praised Trail Life USA, the new scouting organization explicitly created as an anti-gay alternative to the Boy Scouts.

LaBarbera said that the Boy Scouts have "sold their soul to the devil" and called for the creation of anti-gay alternatives to organizations "on all fronts" because "every major institution is being corrupted by the homosexual agenda."

LaBarbera said there ought to be anti-gay versions of organizations such as the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association and the like because gay activist are taking them over and forcing people to approve of their behavior in order to "soothe their own conscience."

Barber agreed, saying that progressives are just modern-day pagans and comparing gay activists to a "swarm of locusts" who attack "anything noble" in an effort to destroy it and leave nothing but a dried husk:

Barber: The NALT Christians Project Is 'Apostasy'

Inspired by the success of Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project, a few weeks ago John Shore and Truth Wins Out launched the Not All Like That (NALT) Christians Project, which is designed to "give LGBT-affirming Christians a means of proclaiming to the world—and especially to young gay people—their belief and conviction that there is nothing anti-biblical or at all inherently sinful about being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender."

Given that mission, it comes as no surprise that Matt Barber and Peter LaBarbera, who are exactly the sort of people that participants in NALT are proclaiming that not all Christians are like, are unhappy about the project, with Barber declaring that he won't stand for being lectured to about Christianity by someone like Savage, who is "one of the most hateful and vile human beings on the planet."

"This is comical," Barber said. "This is laughable.  To have vile, anti-Christian bigots who are pushing a radical, dangerous sexual anarchist agenda presuming to lecture Christians and have people - self-identified Christians, liberal so-called Christians - upload videos about how they support something that God calls an abomination, there's no other word for it, it's apostasy when you have self-described Christians do it.  It is par for the course when you have those who hate God, people like Dan Savage doing it":

LaBarbera Reacts to DOMA Ruling: 'Craven' Kennedy 'Sold out Almighty God for a Place in the Gay Hall of Fame'

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality apparently had to spend quite some time stewing over the Supreme Court’s decision striking down the key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, finally coming out today with a press release slamming the decision. The high court’s decision, LaBarbera writes, “continues America’s godless trajectory toward sexual and gender chaos” and helps to make us “a Profane Nation at war with our own heritage.”

He saves his special vitriol for Justice Anthony Kennedy, author of the DOMA opinion, whom he predicts “will go down in history as one more craven elitist who sold out Almighty God for a place in the Gay Hall of Fame.”

Yesterday’s decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and effectively invalidating Californians’ vote to preserve marriage as between a man and a woman — continues America’s godless trajectory toward sexual and gender chaos.  We have become a Profane Nation at war with our own heritage and the Judeo-Christian moral values that helped make us great.

Healthy societies discriminate against sexually immoral behavior: homosexuality, sex outside marriage, pornography, incest, etc. This benefits children and adults by using the law to reinforce stable moral boundaries and steer citizens away from destructive (sinful) behaviors. So it was stunning to read the majority decision by Justice Anthony Kennedy – a Reagan appointee – overturning DOMA’s pro-natural-marriage provision in the name of the children.

Kennedy surely has earned his future laudatory obit in the New York Times for capitulating to “gay” activist ideology — but among clear-thinking Americans who still know right from wrong he will go down in history as one more craven elitist who sold out Almighty God for a place in the Gay Hall of Fame.

The Kennedy majority’s legal insanity is what emerges from an Isaiah 5:20 culture (evil is good and good evil) that puts deviant sexual identities on a pedestal, to be celebrated as protected “civil rights.” The LGBT Pandora’s Box has been flung open, and there will be much more folly and destruction to follow — including the public policy madness of establishing “gender identity” (read: extreme gender confusion) as a parallel “civil right.”

At least the Supreme Court did not create a national “right” to homosexual “marriage.” But we must be vigilant, as future LGBT litigation, coupled with the appalling self-righteousness of Kennedy’s liberal court majority, will combine to make this the next goal of the judicial supremacists.

LaBarbera also discussed the DOMA decision on VCY America’s Crosstalk yesterday. He attacked President Obama’s statement praising the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it an example of “radical egalitarianism,” and warned that marriage equality will now be “foisted” upon children which is “not good for their hearts and souls.”

The other thing that strikes me, Jim, is the radical egalitarianism of that statement. You know, this idea of homosexual love, homosexual unions are equal to marital unions, it’s not all equal. A marriage between a man and a woman produces children, it’s the very foundation of human civilization. And the idea that two men or two women is somehow ‘equal’ to that is a liberal falsehood. And I’m worried that it’s going to be foisted by necessity now upon children, especially in the states that have so-called homosexual marriage, they will be taught that same-sex so-called marriage is equal to the real thing, and that’s not good for their hearts and souls.

LaBarbera: Homosexuality a 'Masculinity Deficit,' a 'Weird Sin'

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality visited the Janet Mefferd show on Tuesday to discuss “ex-gay” ministry Exodus International’s decision to shut its doors and apologize to the gay community. LaBarbera, unsurprisingly, was none too pleased with Exodus’ reversal. He told Mefferd the story of an “ex-gay” acquaintance, Andrew Franklin, who helped him understand that homosexuality is merely a curable “masculinity deficit.”  He added that people react to homosexuality differently than other “sins” because it “is just a weird sin, so it’s different.”

LaBarbera: The Lord worked in his life, he’s acquiring, you know, masculinity. I think the issue that really hit me, Janet, was, this is really, homosexuality is a masculinity deficit. It’s an issue of masculinity for these guys.

Mefferd: Interesting. And yet, you hear from the other side all the time that people like Andrew Franklin don’t exist. I mean, Wayne Besen has made a whole career on the ex-gay movement as, you know, a misnomer, it doesn’t exist and it’s a big lie.

LaBarbera: Well, they exist. And God is working in their lives just as God works in the lives of all of us, helps us overcome our sin. And I think this is just a weird sin, so it’s different. And that’s why I think people, they want to cop out and say, ‘Oh, they’re born gay, just leave them alone.’

Rios: 'One of the Most Tragic Results' of the Gay Rights Movement is 'the Gay Community Itself'

Sandy Rios of the American Family Association invited Americans for Truth about Homosexuality president Peter LaBarbera on her radio show to discuss what went wrong with the four state ballot initiatives won by gay rights advocates. She said the problems began when Religious Right leaders such as James Dobson and the late Chuck Colson were pressured by Karl Rove and Republican establishment during the fight over the Federal Marriage Amendment to only talk about marriage but not discuss homosexuality and same-sex relationships, which she compared to using the word ‘chattel’ instead of ‘slavery.’ “They though it was okay just to protect marriage, not to talk about homosexuality, that was banned from the discussion, we could only talk about the word marriage,” Rios explained. “My point was always, if we were talking about slavery, we would say we would allow ‘chattel’ just not ‘slavery,’ ‘chattel’ is the same thing, the word doesn’t matter.”

Probably one of the most difficult battles I faced as president of Concerned Women for America was the issue of same-sex marriage. I was there during the time when Massachusetts passed it, Peter worked for me in the Culture and Family Institute and we were into this up to our knees, up to our shoulders. Let’s go back ten years and the polls were showing that people were not, there was no way they were ready to accept same-sex marriage, and not only that but they were not willing to accept legalized same-sex partnerships: no civil unions, domestic partnerships, they were sill wildly unpopular in polls. So when we pushed for a federal marriage amendment that would outlaw acknowledging through law any kind of same-sex coupling, we had all the stats on our side and that’s what we were pushing for.

But the Republican establishment pushed back, Karl Rove pushed back, and he managed to pressure some people that we all love and respect dearly here in Washington, D.C., to buckle, I would include Chuck Colson, who I love dearly, I would include James Dobson, they decided that it was enough to protect the word marriage. That was the battle. They though it was okay just to protect marriage, not to talk about homosexuality, that was banned from the discussion, we could only talk about the word marriage. My point was always, if we were talking about slavery, we would say we would allow ‘chattel’ just not ‘slavery,’ ‘chattel’ is the same thing, the word doesn’t matter.

She even tied the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell to the scandal surrounding David Petraues, saying that more military officials will be “distracted with issues of sexuality” and the country “will be less protected.” Later, Rios argued that homosexuality itself causes depression, high suicide rates and violence and that a “tragic” consequence of the gay rights movement “is the gay community itself,” which she described as a dysfunctional and sad place. LaBarbera, meanwhile, said that the “the Glee kiss that was on national TV” told him “that America was in deep, deep trouble” as gay rights supporters are “taking away the natural revulsion that most people have or used to have toward homosexual behavior.”

Rios: The military is going to transform tremendously and I don’t think when men are distracted with issues of sexuality, just like David Petraeus just had to step down because he was having a long term affair after as far as I can see did a terrible job of overseeing Benghazi, perhaps because he was distracted, we can expect we will be less protected. Peter, take it from there, what other things do you see coming?

LaBarbera: It’s just unbelievable Sandy that young people are going to be exposed to more and more homosexual behavior. I keep going back to the Glee kiss that was on national TV, that told me that America was in deep, deep trouble. We had two boys kissing for twenty or thirty seconds in a romantic set up on Fox’s Glee during prime time. It’s getting so bad that they’re taking away the natural revulsion that most people have or used to have toward homosexual behavior. To understand the homosexual agenda it’s this pathological drive for acceptance and they will use the government to force acceptance on people if necessary. There’s a drive by people practicing homosexuality, trying to rationalize that sin, I believe that deep down at least at one point they knew it was a sin but they are trying to overcome that. So that’s why we see this tremendous push in the corporate world, in society by government, to push the acceptance of homosexuality on people and it will reach the church, it already has, and it will only get worse like you said.

Rios: I would be remiss without saying this, what I always say, because I believe it with all my heart, one of the most tragic results of this is the gay community itself. The men who are dying early of diseases, who are having their hearts broken over and over again because it’s not satisfying, men are not meant to be with men and women are not meant to be with women, so there’s depression, and you know people who date and break up and date and break up, this is what happens: rejections, suicide rate and violence.

LaBarbera and Lindevaldsen Say No to Gay Judges, Sad Sally Ride ‘Fell into Lesbianism’

Americans for Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera continued his discussion with Liberty University Law School’s Rena Lindevaldsen on Friday. The two revisited the topic of openly gay judges, specifically the Virginia prosecutor who was rejected from a judgeship simply because he was gay. That discrimination was ok, Lindevaldsen said, because “if you’re engaged in a lifestyle of immorality, whether that be a homosexual lifestyle or an adulterous relationship or fornication, that’s not the type of moral character that I believe should be someone who’s being appointed to become a judge”:

Lindevaldsen: I think we can equate this not only with the judiciary, but the same debate is taking place, you know, who we want to serve as our schoolteachers, for example. We want moral, upstanding individuals to serve as judges, and this debate’s taking place with schoolteachers too. So if you’re engaged in a lifestyle of immorality, whether that be a homosexual lifestyle or an adulterous relationship or fornication, that’s not the type of moral character that I believe should be someone who’s being appointed to become a judge.

I think it goes to fit moral character and I think that the necessary qualification of any judicial appointment. And therefore it is relevant, based on your conduct, to judge and decide whether you should be allowed to sit in the judiciary.

Immediately after Lindevaldsen and LaBarbera made the case that gay judicial nominees should be defined by and excluded for their sexual orientation, they changed the rules when it came to another prominent example of an openly gay person in public life. Lindevaldsen and LaBarbera heaped scorn on gay rights activists who have had the nerve to call the late Sally Ride, who lived for 27 years with her same-sex partner, a gay pioneer. Emphasizing Ride’s sexual orientation, LaBarbera said -- expanding on a tweet from shortly after her death --would be like defining her as an alcoholic if she had a drinking problem:

LaBarbera: They’re always using opportunities to promote what their version of reality on homosexuality. And really quickly, Sally Ride, another great example. Sally Ride was the first female astronaut, the first…and she had many amazing accomplishments. Unfortunately she also fell into lesbianism and left her husband, she was married, she ended up living in a lesbian lifestyle. She was not public about it. Now gay activists, like Michelangelo Signorile, are using her homosexual, you know, the fact that she practiced the homosexual lifestyle, to say, ‘Hey, this is another gay hero.”

Kirkwood: She was a female astronaut, now she’s the ‘lesbian astronaut.’

LaBarbera: Now she’s the lesbian astronaut, and you better believe in textbooks like in California where they’re teaching gay history now, there’s going to be Sally Ride. So people are going to learn Sally Ride as a, and we’re going a bit over here, they’re going to learn Sally Ride, Rena, as a gay hero, even though she wasn’t even public about it in her life.

Lindevaldsen: Yeah, because they need to contort our history to show that we’ve accepted this all along and that it’s perfectly normal, and see you too can do this and become great things. And you can, you can accomplish things, but that’s not who she was, that doesn’t define who she was and what she accomplished.

LaBarbera: And Rena, I tweeted, and I knew this was going to get me in trouble, but I tweeted, ‘Did she have a drinking problem too?’ In my tweet, I said that she made great accomplishments. But she should not be, and I didn’t, of course she doesn’t, I don’t know if she had a drinking problem or not, but my point was the fact that she practiced homosexuality would be about as relevant as saying, ‘Sally Ride, hey people who drink can be great.’ I mean it’s still immoral behavior, it’s very sad to me that she was involved in that lifestyle. The fact that she was in that lifestyle doesn’t take away from the great accomplishments that she had. But the point is gay identity politics now wants to seize her as a hero.

John Kirkwood on Gay Judges: 'We Were Better Off When the Mafia Ran Illinois'

Illinois pastor John Kirkwood joined Peter LaBarbara on Americans for Truth About Homosexuality Radio Hour last week to discuss a pending challenge to Illinois’ ban on same-sex marriage. The two were up in arms because the Cook County circuit court judge presiding over the case, Sophia Hall, is openly gay. Not only do they want Judge Hall to recuse herself from the case (the Right made a similar, unsuccessful demand of Judge Vaughn Walker, who presided over the Prop 8 trial in California), but they take issue with the very existence of openly gay judges.

Kirkwood, perusing a newsletter article about a function honoring openly LGBT judges in Cook County compared the event to one honoring “the adulterous judges of Cook County” and mused, “We were better off when the Mafia ran Illinois because they were interested in making a profit, not making some kind of political statement that is totally abhorrent.”

LaBarbara: It’s just amazing, John. I mean, you know, Cook County is corrupt, but it’s hard to appreciate how corrupt it is if you’re outside of Illinois. And this is a county that, and we have a photo here of Judge Hall, she’s one of 14 openly homosexual judges in this county.

Kirkwood: Yeah, you know, it’s affectionately called “Crook County” now. And I can actually make the bold statement, and it might sound absurd as a pastor, but we were better off when the Mafia ran Illinois because they were interested in making a profit, not making some kind of political statement that is totally abhorrent.

….

Kirkwood: It just occurred to me how outrageous it would seem if the headline you read is, “Seek to Honor the Adulterous Judges of Cook County.”

LaBarbara: Right, right, well that goes to, John, that goes to you as a pastor and all of us. We’re believers and we regard homosexuality as a serious sexual sin. And so, yeah, just even the language: “gay judges.” I mean these are judges who are openly practicing immoral conduct, they’re proud of it, and even though they don’t think like that, that’s how many people regard homosexuality and that’s the problem.

LaBarbera: Obama has 'Turned the United States into a Pro-Homosexual Regime'

Peter LaBarbera was the guest on Michael Brown's "Line of Fire" radio program yesterday where the two discussed Dan Savage's recent appearance at the National High School Journalism Conference where he offended some students by criticizing the Bible and then mocked those walked out, for which he has since apologized.

Brown and LaBarbera spent most of the interview complaining that they are called bigots simply for attempting to help gays out of love while Savage is given lucrative speaking engagements even though he is an anti-Christian bigot and hater.

After an excruciatingly dull hour of that, the two moved on to other topics, offering LaBarbera an opportunity to vent that President Obama has "turned the United States into a huge gay-rights government.":

Nowadays, I think the big threat we see now - it's just incredible, Mike - the Obama administration has turned the United States into a huge gay-rights government. We are using our resources to force every government across the world, pushing them to promote homosexuality. And there's lots of government and states, whether they're Muslim or like ardently Christian nations like Uganda that don't want, they don't share the caviler attitude of the West toward homosexuality, they certainly don't want to promote it. And all of a sudden Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have turned the United States into a pro-homosexual regime and it's just despicable.

Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality is joining the chorus of anti-gay activists likening themselves to Jews living in Nazi Germany, twice drawing comparisons to Nazism during a Friday interview with conservative talk show host Janet Mefferd. While discussing the Human Rights Campaign’s “Export of Hate” report and what he claims are Right Wing Watch’s misrepresentations of his remarks, LaBarbera said of gay rights supporters: “They’re doing to us what the Nazis did to the Jews.” “We have to trust in God to protect us,... Americans For Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera stopped by “Crosstalk” on Monday to warn of divine retribution for the United States, and specifically the Sears company, for supporting gay rights. The anti-gay activist and host Jim Schneider of Voice of Christian Youth America criticized Sears for participating in the Chicago Pride Parade and releasing a video featuring same-sex couples getting married. “There goes Sears,” LaBarbera said. “I watched the video, it’s just so sad and tragic to me. Nearly two years into President Obama’s second term, a do-nothing Republican Congress is focusing on its next project: the 2014 midterm elections. But that effort might be complicated by increasing pressure from the party’s base to turn Congress’ energy to impeaching President Obama. The impeachment call, which has existed on the right-wing fringe since the start of Obama’s presidency, has picked up steam in recent weeks as it has been endorsed by right-wing media figures, activists and elected officials. This has put Republican congressional leaders in a tricky spot... MORE >

On a segment of “Sandy Rios in the Morning” last week, Americans For Truth About Homosexuality president Peter LaBarbera lamented the plight of the lowly Religious Right activist. An expert on the evils of the LGBT movement, LaBarbera warned Rios that lawmakers, businesses and citizens are increasingly beholden to the demands of the “homosexual lobby,” regardless of their religious convictions. While LaBarbera and Rios wasted no time directing barbs at President Obama and pro-equality Democrats, LaBarbera mostly reserved his scorn for religious leaders and... MORE >

James David Manning, the New York pastor who has warned of "Obama's homo-demons" and posted a "Stone Homos" sign on his church, hosted Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality on his radio show this week. LaBarbera, who has devoted his entire life to combating gay rights, accused President Obama of being "obsessed" with homosexuality: "He's pandering to such a degree that it's like there is a spiritual force behind this, because who can explain the obsession that Barack Obama and his administration have for this issue.... Americans For Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera has sent a letter to Michael Sam asking him to consider ex-gay therapy, citing the HIV/AIDS rate among African Americans. LaBarbera also warned Sam that by coming out of the closet and “celebrating homosexuality as normative,” he will face “notoriety among millions of us.” LaBarbera has previously urged Sam to seek ex-gay therapy and lamented that he was “forced” to watch Sam kiss his boyfriend on television. Anti-gay activists are rejoicing at the Supreme Court's decision in Hobby Lobby today, in part because they are hopeful that the decision will pave the way for one of their own policy goals: to use the religious liberty argument to push for broad exemptions for corporations from nondiscrimination laws. Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber is hopeful that the decision bodes well for those trying to use religious freedom as a cloak to justify discrimination against LGBT people: #HobbyLobby may help protect businesses from those pushing counter-biblical #LGBT ... Yesterday on VCY America’s flagship radio show “Crosstalk,” Peter LaBarbera expressed outrage over Joe Biden’s recent remarks in support of LGBT rights, accusing the vice president of “neo-imperialism.” LaBarbera, the head of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, defended draconian anti-gay laws in Uganda and Jamaica: “The American government has embraced a neo-imperialism where we arrogantly override the beliefs of countries like Jamaica and Uganda and other countries with the idea that we, America, know what’s best for the world.” He...
